Silver Screen / Saddest movie you have ever seen

@Daddytops: I have no idea what movie that is.
It's called The Strangers. It was a horror movie released in theaters in 2008. I didn't think it was too bad. I'm surprised Daddytops would list it as a sad movie though because there's not really any sad moments in it. Eh, different strokes I guess. Also, I never realized until now just how creepy the mask on the left was.

Saddest movie I'd ever seen. Well aside from Land Before Time (as good as If We Hold on Together is, I just can't listen to it without getting depressed) I thought Big Hero Six had some pretty sad moments. I also thought Titanic was a pretty depressing movie.

Well I'm a bit late on this but here are my thoughts towards the season opener.

For the most part, it was just okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really that good either. In the preview I found Flurry Heart to be pretty cute but in the actual episode I thought she was pretty annoying. She ultimately just had no purpose and didn't need to have the season opener be devoted to her. One episode would have worked just fine. Also, the reason for her name is really stupid. So you name your daughter after a (narrowly avoided) disaster that not only did she cause but which also could have ended up destroying the kingdom you're supposed to rule over? Yeah, then Shining and Cadence as well as the rest of the Crystal Empire can always remember the momentous day they nearly lost their homes.

The best parts of the episodes were the parts involving Sunburst and Starlight. It was interesting getting to see them reunite (although again, they could have easily stayed in contact) and their characters played off each other pretty well. The only thing that bugged me was Twilight's incessant OCD and pretty much demanding that Starlight follow every step she wrote to a T. At first Twilight's OCD was sort of cute now it's getting annoying. You can only use a part of a character's personality for comedic effect for so long before it just gets tired.

I do think that Starlight being Twilight's new pupil will make for some pretty interesting stories in future episodes. I just wonder if she'll ever accompany some of the Mane Six whenever they get summoned by the Cutie Map to solve a problem.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your kind words and I know my family does too. It's still kind of hard for me to believe she's gone since the last time I saw her, she seemed to be doing okay. She didn't seem too sickly or anything. Very skinny, yes but other than that, she seemed okay.

Lone Dragon, I'm sorry to hear about your father. Cancer is beyond awful and I hope that someday we find the cure for it so that no one else has to go through it like your dad, my aunt, and countless other people have had to.

Again, thanks everyone. It means a lot knowing there are people in other parts of the world who are there for you, even if you've never met them face to face.

« on: February 28, 2016, 02:34:19 PM »
Last night at about 11:00, my mom received word that her sister, my favorite aunt had passed away. She had been diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago and just last month, we learned that it had gotten so advanced that the doctors only gave her six months to live. Well, it had gotten so bad that the time was then moved down to just a few days and then, just last night it happened. She had been using cannabis oil which supposedly, even those who were in the advanced stages of cancer claimed to have taken it and felt better afterwards. We all knew it was a long shot but when you've got a family member who's got nothing left to lose and everything to gain, you want to believe that that long shot will work.

I've never been very close with many of my extended family members but I was with my aunt. She was fun, had a lively personality, and I always liked getting to see her. Now that she's gone, it just doesn't feel real. Last night, I dreamt that it turned out she was still alive and still had some time left. I wish that dream had been a reality.

No offense but we're talking about the same fandom that gets "triggered" whenever something happens that contradicts their ideas of what should be canon. The same fandom that got "triggered" because Twilight Sparkle was given a one dimensional love interest in a film series that the creators have said isn't even canon (personally I have nothing against Flash Sentry. He hasn't really done anything to deserve being so despised).

If Hasbro did give Button more of a role in the show, I think it'd be cool to see their take on him. While I think his fanon personality is alright, I would like to see more to him than just being the kid who loves video games. I think it's cool that Button's portrayed as a major gamer by fans but the biggest problem is that that's usually all there is to him. This seems to happen with a lot of background ponies: they do something on the show (like Derpy saying muffins) and that one aspect becomes their entire (fanon) personality.

As for Starlight, my biggest issue with her is her backstory. It is so poorly written. I still can't believe that the reason she hated cutie marks was because her friend got his before she did and then went off to Canterlot to study at that unicorn school. Did Starlight even attempt to get back in contact with him? When she got her mark, did she even attempt to get into the same school as he did? Perhaps if Starlight's friend getting his cutie mark before she did resulted in him turning into a stuck up jerk to her, I could see where she was coming from. Maybe she could have been the last in her class to get a cutie mark and all the other foals made fun of her for it. Those would have been far better ideas than simply "My friend got his mark before me, went off to Canterlot to study at Celestia's Gifted Unicorn School, and then I never attempted to get back in contact with him so now I hate cutie marks for it".

I don't dislike Starlight's character but her backstory is so poorly written. It makes it sound as though she didn't attempt to make other friends or reunite with Sunburst (I think that was his name).

So with season six coming soon, what are some things you guys are hoping to see in it?

Two things I want from season six are a scene with Bulk Biceps speaking normally and it turns out he's got a British accent. I don't know why but I just picture him having a really sophisticated sounding voice when he isn't shouting.

I also hope we get an episode with Button Mash and the Cutie Mark Crusaders trying to help him get his Cutie Mark. Since the CMC are supposedly going to be helping other ponies get their marks now, I think it'd be pretty cool to have them help some of the more minor foals like Button, Pipsqueak, Dinky, etc. get their Cutie Marks.

Computer and Electronics / Blocking ads
« on: February 12, 2016, 08:47:59 PM »
One thing I love to do in my free time is browse various Wikis for franchises I'm a fan of. Before my friends helped me install Adblock, I was always bombarded by really disgusting ads (those weight loss ones I mentioned a few times years ago) or those video ads that were so loud they scared me half to death whenever they'd start playing. I'm very grateful to my friends for helping to put Adblock on my computer. Thanks to them, my Internet browsing has never been better. I don't have to worry about visiting Wikis, Deviantart, etc. and seeing gross ads or having loud, obnoxious ads take me by surprise and scare the crap out of me.

Ads just need to disappear period. Nobody likes them. They're intrusive, annoying, and for the most part, outdated. If certain sites don't like Adblock, then either make the ads more appealing or find a different way to make money because Adblock ain't goin' away anytime soon.

Gamers Zone / Critically acclaimed games that you don't like
« on: December 06, 2015, 01:51:49 AM »
Would Jak 2 count as a "critically acclaimed game"? Cause if so, then that's one I...no, actually, don't like is too nice to a disgrace like this filth. I loathe just about everything that it is. Behind Spyro The Eternal Night, this is the second worst game I've ever played in my life. I'd rather play Superman 64 than play this putrid excuse for a game (and yes I have played Superman 64).

I played the first Jak and Daxter and while it had its flaws and was frustrating at times, it was still a pretty interesting game. This thing (I won't call it a game) takes everything that made the first one so good and takes a big shit all over it. Now Jak has to be dark and brooding because...well because that was the thing back in the early 2000s. We saw it with movies like Daredevil, games like Shadow the Hedgehog (AKA Ow the Edge), etc. Take a character from a relatively fun and light hearted series and make them dark and always angry (I never really read or watched Daredevil so I don't know if he was necessarily light hearted but the point still stands). Yeah, that's good character development.

The game play is atrocious. Nothing is done particularly well. The hoverboard is a pain to use and feels like it's trying to appeal to fans of the Tony Hawk games (without realizing why they're fans of that franchise). It goes so slowly (yeah I know I can press forward on the thumb stick to make it go faster. It's still pretty slow either way), handles poorly, and is just downright terrible. The driving in this thing is a nightmare. You're either crashing into cars endlessly or people. Pick your poison. The vehicles also make no sense. Sometimes a vehicle that hasn't taken even an ounce of damage will blow up from colliding into one and other times they'll be able to take multiple dings until they can't take anymore. The driving also feels like it's trying to appeal to fans of GTA without realizing why those games' driving work while this one's doesn't.

The shooting is also terrible. Sometimes I'll be locked right onto an enemy and the blast won't hit them. What purpose do the guns even really serve to the game other than to try and appeal to fans of Halo and other FPSs at the time? And of course, that's not done well either. I didn't get to the races but from what I've seen and heard, they're no better than anything else this thing has to offer.

The checkpoints are awful and almost non existent. Had this thing had checkpoints, it wouldn't have been this tedious. It's downright obnoxious getting close to completing your objective and then you either get hit by an enemy too many times or fall into the lava and have to start all over. That's NES stuff. Also, I'm not trying to hate on the NES. I'm just saying that for a game from Gen 6, this is ridiculous. NES games at least had a reason for why they didn't normally offer checkpoints. Many of the games were ports of arcade games or would have only been an hour or two if not for making the games hard. This thing however takes at most seventeen to twenty hours to beat. This has no reason being so hard.

And for me, the most damning part of the game. The thing that, I'm actually surprised many people don't bring up: this game doesn't have an identity of its own. It tries to be a Jak (pun intended) of all trades but it's a master of none. The shooting is terrible, the driving is terrible, the "skateboard" is terrible, the platforming is only a bit better than these other parts. It has nothing it can truly call its own. Everything feels like it was done in other games and done better. Even though Jak and Daxter did feel reminiscent of games like Banjo-Kazooie or Super Mario 64, it still took elements that made those games great and tried to incorporate them into itself and for the most part, it worked. This just tried to be for everyone and just didn't do a good job at it.

I knew going in, this game's infamous difficulty but this was still asinine. With how bad this game was, I don't know if I ever want to give Jak 3 a try. I wanted to play all three of the original Playstation platformers. I enjoyed the Sly Cooper games for the most part (two got repetitive after awhile and three I didn't care for) and Ratchet and Clank is so far just okay. I'm still on the first one and am only on the first planet so it may more than likely get better. This series, however, I might be done with. I've heard that Jak 3 is supposed to be better and fix the second one's problems but I don't know if I can bring myself to try stepping into the Jak world again.

EDIT: I forgot to say, I did actually enjoy the story somewhat (maybe if this thing wasn't so punishing I could have really enjoyed it) and the graphics were pretty nice for a 2003 thing. Those were really the only things I could bring myself to like.

It's so hard to believe that the season finale has finally come. While I really enjoyed both episodes, I do have to agree with Pokeplayer that Starlight's whole reason for wanting to rid Equestria of Cutie marks was...well really stupid. She knew that her friend was in Canterlot so why didn't she try to reconnect with him when they were older? It wasn't like she was never going to get her mark so you know, as soon as the two of them are older, either visit him in Canterlot or move there so they can be closer. I like Starlight's character but that wasn't a very good backstory.

One thing I thought was strange was how Twilight still kept her Cutie Mark after Starlight first changed the past. Since her future was also shaped thanks to Dash's Rainboom then shouldn't her Cutie Mark either have been gone or changed (I'm assuming that's what happened to the other Mane Six's marks)?

I really liked the message that even the smallest thing can end up changing the future for everybody. It really puts into perspective just how important even the most minute thing we do can end up affecting our lives. The timeline variations were also pretty entertaining and I was personally hoping we'd get to see more of the wars between Sombra and Chrysalis.

The ending I have mixed feelings on. While I did think the ending was pretty sweet, I also think Starlight got off a bit too leniently. Other than Twilight teaching her how to better control her magic, she receives no repercussions for what she's done and really, Twilight taking Starlight under her wing(no pun intended) isn't a punishment. I'm not really against the idea of Twilight getting a student of her own and she and Starlight could have some pretty good chemistry together. We'll just have to see what happens in season six.

So now begins the year long wait for season six. Wonder what that will bring.

I remember hearing about Starlight being redeemed and becoming Twilight's student. I thought that actually was going to be the season finale.

I don't know, while it could be an interesting outcome, at the same time, Starlight I don't think would work as Twilight's pupil. I do think that somewhere down the line Twilight should get her own student but Starlight shouldn't be it.

Well that was...alright. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really all that good either. Not much to really discuss for this episode. Rara was pretty likable and I didn't understand why Applejack thought that she had changed when it was obvious from the get go that it was her manager who was making all these poor choices for her. Rara's manager was pretty obnoxious and was obviously made to be disliked so I guess kudos to the writers for that. The songs were the best part of the episode and, in my opinion, better than any pop stuff found on the top 20 charts. I'm not kidding.

What's this about an hour long episode tomorrow? Is the season finale coming this soon? I thought it was next week.

Silver Screen / Cool Cat Saves the Kids
« on: November 16, 2015, 06:09:46 AM »
There sure have been many so bad they're good movies. With films like The Room, Troll 2, Rocky Horror Picture Show (although I think it was intentionally SBIG), and, in my opinion, Human Centipede. Well, a new movie has surfaced that has caught the attention of the Internet.

Enter Cool Cat Saves The Kids. A movie released this year by a man known as Derek Savage (Or "Daddy" Derek as he's called in the film). Cool Cat Saves the Kids stars the titular character Cool Cat, a character whose personality will make you think this was something made in the early to mid nineties as I myself thought upon first seeing it. The film follows Cool Cat as he shows kids the "proper" way to handle cyberbullying, graffiti, gun control, and even stars in the Hollywood parade(I have no idea how he was able to do that). I use quotation marks around the word proper because Cool Cat does a terrible job handling the lesson it's trying to teach. In the part where Cool Cat deals with cyberbullying (or bullying of any sort), he rationalizes that those who bully others do so because they don't have any friends. He even sends a message to the kid bullying him online along the lines of "If you had friends, you wouldn't need to be a bully because friends are awesome!" or something like that even though there are a plethora of reasons why somebody might bully. I'm not saying bullying is good or that all bullies should be seen as sympathetic but this movie simplifies this  in such a childish and quite frankly insulting way. What about kids who are friendless but don't try to hurt others? Are they suddenly bullies because they don't have friends?

The other poor lesson this movie teaches kids is actually crossing the street. At one point in the movie, one of Cool Cat's friends is showing Cool Cat a ball he got. It goes into the street and he runs out to get it just as a car is coming. Cool Cat saves him and lectures the boy about looking both ways before crossing the street. Sounds good so far, no? Well, a little later, Cool Cat and his friends see the antagonist in the flick (a bully named Butch) stealing candy and CC proceeds to bolt out into the street after him WITHOUT LOOKING BOTH WAYS! Completely contradicting what he was just trying to teach. So what are kids supposed to learn from this? Always look both ways unless you're chasing someone then just go after them like a crazed dog?

The last lesson I want to bring up is, in my opinion, the worst one this movie could teach and that's what to do when you see a schoolmate brandishing a gun. So Cool Cat and friends find a gun and instead of trying to handle it themselves, they go get "Daddy" Derek. Now this actually isn't too bad. I do like that the movie encourages kids to get an adult to handle this if they find a firearm. A lot of specials don't normally point that out from what I've seen. Of course, Butch the Bully finds this gun and monologues his plan to take it to school and threaten kids to give him their lunch money. The next day, he brings the gun to school and Cool Cat and his friends see him showing it off to another kid. What is the best course of action they suggest? Going into the school! Yeah, don't try to find a teacher who might be outside, call the police, or hightail it outta there, nope, go into the place that could come under fire. Thankfully Butch is stopped before he can do anything with the gun by a cop who arrests him but I personally think he's just trying to protect Butch from Cool Cat.

Aside from contradictory lessons, the acting is terrible. The guy who plays Cool Cat is constantly screaming his lines, the characters often state what they're going to do or what is going on instead of showing it, and somehow, Derek Savage was able to get Erik Estrada (CHiPs and Sealab 2021) and Vivica A. Fox (Both Kill Bills) to be in his movie. I don't know if he knows them personally or what but I think they're both way too talented to be in this.

In addition to all this, Savage has also gotten into a feud with a Youtuber known as I Hate Everything. IHE did a video where he watched CCStK and commented on it. While I didn't think his thoughts on the movie were too bad, Savage thought differently. He had the video removed from IHE's channel and has even gone as far as to threaten IHE by claiming he'll get his account taken down if he ever makes another video about him or Cool Cat.  IHE, from what I've seen, has tried to be civil and composed about this whole mess (and has done a good job of it) while Derek has continued to insult the guy and threaten him, calling him things like "liar" and threatening to sue him and get his channel removed.

In some ways, I can kind of understand Derek's feelings. It's clear to anyone that he truly cares about Cool Cat. This is his baby, his magnum opus. From what I've read on his IMDB page, Cool Cat was based off an imaginary friend he made in his childhood so obviously this character has stuck with him for a long time.

With that said, however, Derek needs to realize that when you put something out there for everybody to see, you're going to get negative reception. It sucks, but that's the unfortunate truth of it all. Nobody wants to see their work get ripped a new one but it happens. When I post a new drawing or chapter of my Dragon's World series on my DA account, I know there's a chance that someone'll leave a nasty comment on one of my works but I take that risk knowing what could happen because I like to share my stuff and because I want to make it better. The way Derek has been handling this issue with I Hate Everything is hurting both him and Cool Cat. CC is supposed to be a character who is about friendship and kindness, what would he think if he saw his "daddy" Derek bullying somebody with threats of legal action (which wouldn't work anyway since IHE hasn't broken any laws) and threatening to take their account down? I wish Derek would think of this. He seems to treat Cool Cat like a real person anyway so why not ask himself how his fictional (or possibly real in his world) son would feel if he saw his dad hurting another person?

Well I definitely posted a lot. I'll end this post with a reuploaded version of IHE's Cool Cat review. Might want to check it out in case it gets removed again (Warning: Vulgar language)

I was pretty surprised at the reason they gave for why the two families were feuding. At first I was worried they were going to give them a silly reason like they didn't decorate a cake the right way or whatever. That it was about not deciding whether or not food or shelter was more important was definitely a pleasant and unexpected surprise. I like how, in the end, neither choice is shown to be more important than the other. They're both vital to survival and I don't really believe one is more important than the other. It was nice to see that, in the end, they were able to come together for the animals who had been the only ones truly suffering through their squabbles.

Fluttershy and Twilight both worked very well together. Their chemistry was great and seeing Twilight's excitement about finally getting to make use of her role as Princess of Friendship was adorable. In the end, I liked how it was ultimately Fluttershy who saved the day.

Good episode. And as always, looking forward to seeing more of the Cutie Map.

That was supposed to be Pinkie? Makes sense that it'd be an error since Starlight's pretty close to them and yet they don't even notice her.

I wonder if for the season finale, Starlight will make reference to her stalking Twilight in previous episodes. Just made me think that Derpy's had some competition this season as MLP's Where's Waldo character.

I have to be honest, this episode didn't feel as good as some of the past season five episodes. The puns really got old right after the first one and Discord's motivation for not including Twilight made no sense. He wanted to prove she could become jealous by...making her jealous? No kidding. We also never find out just what was so hilarious that they couldn't just tell Twilight what had happened. And what was up with Discord having that evil look on his face in several scenes? It really made it seem as though he had some ulterior motive.

Pinkie as Marty from Back to the Future was pretty cool and Discord was great as always. I just think this episode could have been a bit better.

Also, a quick mention for Scare Master. Since the episode was leaked six weeks ago, I haven't been able to find a full version of it as it seems to have been removed from Youtube. From what I remember, it wasn't a bad episode. I liked that Fluttershy tried to give Nightmare Night a try but found it just wasn't her kind of thing. By having her remain not as big a fan of Nightmare Night as her friends, I think it actually gave her more depth than if she were to like it in the end. Two headed Spike was pretty clever as well and Applejack was adorable in her lion costume. My biggest issue with the episode would have to be Fluttershy's idea of something being scary. I know it fits with her character but really? Not being a good host is her biggest fear? So to her that's scarier than twenty foot tall dragons, a reality wrapping demigod (even if he is "good" now), a tyrannical king, a bug queen who can transform into other ponies and eat love, and a centaur who can absorb magic from not just unicorns but alicorns, peagasi and earth ponies? Flutters's has got some interesting standards for what's scary.

I did like what they did with some of the scary scenes though. A lot of them were pretty inventive.

I plan to give Friendship Games another watch and then review it on my Deviantart journal. I already reviewed Equestria Girls back in 2013 and Rainbow Rocks a week ago. If anyone wants, I'll link to all three reviews once the Friendship Games one is up.

That was a pretty good episode although it was a little weird in my opinion to have a Christmas themed episode near the end of October. The characters played off of each other pretty well and I was pretty surprised to hear Pinkie is a twin! I wasn't expecting that. I always figured she was the youngest of the Pie sisters.

Can't say I'm really surprised with how Pinkie's parents spoke. Seeing as how they have that Amish look to them, I thought it only made sense that they would end up speaking like a stereotypical Amish person. I loved the interactions between Big Mac and Marble. Watch out Cheerilee. I think someone's trying to make a move on your man  :lol
