I was frightened of the concept of the LBT tv series, pretty much I dreaded the concept of a cheesy almost Barney-like representation of my favorite childhood classic.

Thanks to LandbeforetimeLover's website, I finally broke my phobia and gave into curiosity....

some of you were saying this was a lower step down from the sequels? Dear me! I was actually pleased with what I saw! Granted the voices were way different , and well... I still cringed at the singing parts. If the TV series is this decent, then the sequels must be some kind of animated masterpiece!

I mean seriously, even though yes, it was the equivalent of a normal Saturday morning cartoon, I was kind of dazzled by the amount of detail put into it. they simply don't make cartoons like that anymore, and the 80's child in me was kind of reborn!

The stories were your typical children's adventure book style, which is something I honestly don't mind, just as long as it included logic and some deep sense of reality (danger) and I thought it clever that Chomper (that is his name, right?) could communicate with both sides of the food chain.

I do believe I've gained a level in being a LBT fan, and with a whole new level of respect for the series.

So yes, the sequels are definitely on my list for watching in the not so distant future!

Chmoper, the "friendly sharptooth" (a quote from Guido) was practically hatched by the gang in LBT 2 and made a reappearance in LBT 5, something that rarely happens in the sequels. Ruby is new to the series altogether and has yet to make an appearance in the sequels. Mr. Thicknose made a one-time appearance in LBT 8, but became semi-main in the TV series. Also, several other one-time-appearance characters made reappearances in the TV series.

The singing is a lot worse in the TV series than in the sequels (though the sequels have also produced the random ear0breakers, as well :P: ). The sequels have actually produced, in my opinion, some fine masterpieces, if I do say so myself. B)

It's good to know that at least someone else, besides me, likes the TV series. B)

EDIT: Well, I shouldn't say "a lot," but it's still not up to par, even with the sequels. :P:

Whoa, someone that actually thinks that most of it is junk! :o Impressed, to say the least.

I do like some of it [Courage the Cowardly Dog, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Camp Lazlo (reminds me of Looney Toons), and *sigh* PokÈmon], though, but still....

There are cartoon shows out now that I like a lot more than the LBT TV series, no offense.

The mention of Ruby reminded me of something I thought of a while ago, perhaps a very stupid thought.  If Ruby was asked by Chomper's parents to watch him,  does that mean they were friends, or at least one of Chomper's parents, with at least one of Ruby's parents. If so perhaps one of ruby's parents may know sharptooth.    Would explain, perhaps, they didn't try to eat them or something like that.

As for cartoon network, sounds like it's gotten worst then when I had cable tv, along with other channels I use to watch.

I didn't really break with that phobia yet. I did watch six of the episodes so far and found them better than I had dreaded them to be. However, the next one on my list is the one which includes the return of Ali and I couldn't help taking notice of the many very negative reactions to that episode. I fear that it may do more harm than good (same as LBT 10 did as far as I am concerned). Sometimes I wish to just watch the episodes thereby kind of "catching" up with all of you who have seen the episodes. I avoid reading threads on the episodes I have not yet seen to avoid any spoilers, but for that reason there are many threads which I suppose are rather interesting but which I cannot participate in. There may be yet another reason for me to be shy of watching the episodes.
I have plots for many LBT stories in my mind, stories which I would like to write down when I have the time. However, it is very likely that there may be similar ideas in some of the episodes. If I saw an episode with similarities to the stories I'm planning on, or an episode which would contradict the plot of my stories I doubt I would muster the enthusiasm to write those stories anyway. The word "hermit" in one of the episodes titles for example suggests that (though the hermit character may (and is likely to) be VERY different from the character I have in mind) there may be a similarity which would destroy the feeling of telling something completely new.

You could always put those episodes aside and not watch them till after you have written your stories and posted them here.  Just one idea.

I personally think the Ali return deal is not as bad as it's brought out to be.

I'll try to explain it in a spoiler friendly fashion.

It's alleged that Ali acted rather nasty towards her old friends and that she did stuff that she never would have done in the sequel(s). However, it is my personal belief that Ali's actions in the episode in question actually fit her personality fairly well. She's shy and not quick to accept "strange" dinosaurs as her friends, and not seeing them for awhile may have affected her somewhat. She was quite stubborn throughout most of the episode, taking someone else's false baloney over the case of her old friends. I don't think she acted out of character; I think she acted in character.

To put in bluntly, I don't think your refusal to see the new LBT TV episodes is very justified at all (unless you can't understand English or there aren't any German dubs, but I doubt either are the case here). If you've seen 6 already, then why not see the rest? It can't be much, if any at all, worse than what you've already viewed.

I dont even know who Ali is, so I'm not in the know of why its so negative XD

I didnt mean to offend anyone when I said there was allot of garbage out there. There are some very decent and funny cartoons in the network, but some of them I just cant help but shake my head at...

I dont know.. maybe it was because I was always an 80's child

sorry, mateys ^_^ no offense taken I hope

Ali appeared in LBT 4 (The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists) and in the TV episode "The Brave Longneck Scheme." I don't want to spoil the rest for you. :P:

The sequels are A LOT better than the tv series.  They actually have a long and involved story to them.  I still like the tv series, I just don't like Ruby or Chomper to be part of the gang.  Ruby isn't in any sequel so far so don't expect her to show up.  The sequels rock!  That's all I gotta say. :D  I do agree that there are a lot of shows out there on CN that I don't like, but I wouldn't call them garbage (except for a few that will remain nameless) :P: As for Ali's return, it was nice to see her come back, but it was a huge disappointment.  Ret wasn't exactly a good character either in my opinion.  that's all I'm gonna say about this.  I don't want to scare Malte away from this thread. :lol

I still wish that the first movie was based off an actual novel (like Bambi) but it doesn't seem that will ever happen. Imagine an in depth literature of the five dinosaurs long before the first movie. Deep and involving (Bambi was pretty dark for a children's Novel, mind you!)

Anyway, I'll watch more episodes later tonight, after the turkey feast

gobble gobble ^_^

The novelization.. the main literature had some very graphic moments, and more deaths than could be aloud in an animated film back then. (Disney just dumbed it down to be suitable for a children audience)

Near the end, Bambi and his Father stand over a dead hunter who took his own life...plenty of allegory and WWII symbolism involved

I guess if they did do a novel it would, in turn, be darker then the movie, but it could be interesting to read for LBT fans, if it were well written.

One of the main drawbacks to having 2 additions to the gang is there is even less time for each character to do stuff in a short 20+ minute episode.  Though I do like the tv series.  Some episodes seem like they should have done a movie.  Return to Black rock could have been a movie, especially if they add in 1 or more of the other episodes onto it.  Others are the right length for a cartoon episode.

Actually, I think there were a few LBT novels (even for the original), but I think they're German only or something.

There are several English books based on the original movie and there are a couple of English books with LBT stories not based on any movie. I didn't find any English books based on the sequels yet.
