Exactly what the title says. I believe Rat_Lady7's started somethin' here :lol!
-
What is your favorite subject in high school?
-
What type of job do you have?
-
LB&T: My favorite subject in high school was Biology, my second favorite subject being English. I am going into my senior year of college, so I'm already done with my general studies.
Rat_Lady7: I work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) aka caregiver, and I care for the elderly. I work in a retirement community, so most of my patients are taken care of in their homes. There's also an assisted living facility where I work, and I'm working on picking up hours there as well. With the economy as poor as it is, hardly anyone is moving in. The apartments are purchased by those who move in, and if their property has not sold yet, that means they're making payments on two properties, which is expensive when you're retired. As more folks die or move to a nursing facility, more apartments are being left vacant and not selling. This means fewer patients for my coworkers and myself. Therefore, that's why I'm picking up hours in the assisted living facility. In addition to my work, I also volunteer with a nearby state park.
-
What made you interested in being a CNA?
-
When I was younger, I wanted to become a nurse. My high school offered CNA training, so I've been working as a CNA since I was sixteen. Anyhoo, after a year of studying for nursing in college, I realized I like working in the outdoors much better :yes. I still continue to work as a CNA, however, 'cuz it pays better than other non-degree jobs out there (i.e. fast food, retail stores, etc.).
-
Wow. LB&T didn't ask this question.
Do you like Star Trek? :lol
-
Nope. I never did get into it.
-
In your opinion, what was the most awesome place you have visited?
-
What drew to Twilight Valley. Sorry, but I ask everyone here who's read it that question. :p
-
Rat_Lady7: The most awesome place I have ever visited thus far is the Grand Canyon ;).
Serris: I have a tendency to read any new fanfics on FF.net just to see what they're all about, and somehow, I ended up drawn to your fanfic. I especially like fanfics that are well-written and have a good plot, so I'm sure that played a factor :yes.
-
On the position of the RN, considering a lot of serious situations occur in hospitals, how do you find you deal with a lot of pressure put on you to do things right?
-
I'm not an RN ;). I had mentioned that I had been aiming to become one when I realized I'm much happier working outdoors. To answer your question as best as I can, I do not crack under pressure. I do not frazzle easily, and I tend to remain calm during emergencies. I somehow have the ability to internalize feelings of stress so they don't come out at work or school. I do my best to save it for when I'm by myself, 'cuz I hate for others to see me either crying or ranting. I really despise hurting others' feelings, and I find it inexcusable to take things out on someone who had nothing to do with how I'm feeling. Also, I can't stand drawing attention to myself. I like for others to know my real side, not the side that's created by stress :yes.
-
How many doggies do you have? :o
-
Two, and they're both Cocker Spaniels :).
-
Simple. What is energy?
-
Definition: Energy is the capacity of a physical system to perform work. Energy exists in several forms such as heat, kinetic or mechanical energy, light, potential energy, electrical, or other forms.
Might I add that it's a little somethin' that keeps ya going and going and going :p.
-
(You can see this coming....)
What made you hate Ms. Maia?
-
I have not been able to stand Ms. Maia since the first time I ever recall seeing her, which was in LBT VI. Instead of at least understanding that Ducky is just a little one, she flung her from the nest like a piece of trash, and Ducky was not even doing any harm :anger!
-
What's your favorite genre in books?
-
Horror! Stephen King is my favorite author :yes.
-
What is your favorite genre of music?
-
My favorite genre of music is rock. I do like a little bit of every genre, though.
-
What do you like most about Cera that seperates her from the rest of the gang?
-
I like how she's the strong one and happens to be a female. She goes against the female stereotype, which makes her a cool character in my opinion ;).
-
Do you like cats or dogs
-
I love cats and dogs just the same. They're great company, and they're warm and snuggly :wub.
-
:lol, why is it so hard to find each other on fb? xD
-
Durrr...I dunno :crazy :bang!
-
xD
How long have you played in rps?
-
I started back in June of this year, when GVG's "New World, Same Old Faces" RP caught my attention :yes.
-
How have you been Anna? ^_^
-
Well, I kinda got into a funk today, but I'm feeling better now :yes.
-
Do you like to fish?
-
I love fish, especially salmon. I don't eat any of the badly endangered species or any species containing high levels of mercury, though.
EDIT: Oops, I see you're wondering if I like TO fish. Sorry :oops! Yeah, I like fishing. In fact, I'm the only one in my family who can catch fish. The biggest one I ever caught thus far was a salmon, at least half my height (I'm 5'2"). I had to have one relative hold me down while another relative got a net to scoop the salmon up with so my fishing line would not break :wow.
-
Ok, I know you LOVE the good guys, do you have any favorite villains in movies, books, tv, etc?
-
My favorite villian is Jigsaw from the "Saw" series. He's not the stereotypical villian, which is portayed as stupid and bumbling. He's up in age, educated, and ill with terminal cancer. None of those characteristics are found in many villians.
-
Have you written anything new recently? As in stories, songs, poems, etc?
-
Not much. I've been having terrible writer's block :bang. Thankfully, it does not affect RPGing.
-
I'm in the same boat as you are CT. :yes
When was the last time you read the bible?
-
When I was still in the church youth group back in high school. My issue with the Bible is not knowing how much of it has been revised in order to follow a society's norms and beliefs.
-
What makes you angry the most?
-
Which CANONICAL pairing do you like the most in LBT? (Note I say CANONICAL because I noticed that you want to see a Rytho X Ducky platonic relationship.)
-
Rat_Lady7: Nothing makes me angrier than folks getting bullied or persecuted for being who they are.
Serris: My favorite canonical LBT pairing is Mr. Threehorn and Tria. It's funny how she puts him in his place :p.
-
What made you change your old avatar?
And why to this specific one?
(Sorry, I just had to ask this, I really liked the avatar :yes )
-
How has your day been? :)
-
DualXz: I changed my avatar 'cuz I just felt it was time for a new one :yes. I like my avatars to represent a characteristic about myself. Since I'm a dreamer and tend to daydream a lot, I felt this one was fitting. I found it on Photobucket when I searched "dreaming" :).
Rat_Lady7: My day was pretty busy but good. I started feeling sad for some odd reason in the early afternoon, but I had time to snuggle with my pups before going to work, and they helped me feel good again. Pets are wonderful to have around :yes.
-
Yeah they definitely are. :yes
What was the weirdest dream you've ever had?
-
Geez, I've had so many weird dreams :crazy. Some very random ones involved me copying the martial arts in the Ninja Turtles films while watching them, me getting married to a bull, Ducky telling me she recorded the song "Poker Face", me as a Jedi knight...the list could go on for eternity :lol!
-
I love the getting married to a bull one. :lol And Ducky telling you that she recorded, "Poker Face". :P:
What was the tastiest thing you've ever eaten? :D
-
Again, difficult to pick out just one :p, so I'll go with this chocolate decadence cake that was served on a cruise. The cruise was a present for my high school graduation that I least expected, and it was a blast. Anyhoo, the cake melted like a Lindt chocolate with every bite. Yum!
-
Do you like the band Nightwish?
-
I'm not familiar with them :bang. Looks like Rat_Lady7's a big fan, though.
-
Who's your favorite adult LBT character?
-
I'd have to say Tria, Ducky and Spike's mother coming in a very close second, then Littlefoot's grandparents :yes.
-
What do you think about the idea of changing the Ultimate LBT fan picture to Chomper instead of Mo?
-
Well, I think Chomper would be more fitting since he's more well-known than Mo and has a much bigger fanbase. It's all up to the admins in the end, though ;).
-
What do you think of my story Far Away Home so far? Do you have any suggestions or improvements I could consider?
-
I really like your fanfic how it is. I don't see any room for improvement at this point.
-
Do you ever get self conscious nowadays?
-
Not nearly as much as when I was younger, but I still do, especially in social situations. Fear of misreading the other person(s) is what I get self-conscious about.
-
Do you like waffles?
-
Yup, especially chocolate chip waffles :).
-
Do you like pancakes?
-
Sure, but not as much as waffles :yes. Again, my favorite is chocolate chip!
-
Do you like Frenchtoast too?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtlaTNI1TaU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtlaTNI1TaU)
-
:lol Yup! Jeez, I'm startin' to sound like I live to eat when I rarely eat breakfast !
-
Hehe, I don't really like American breakfast foods myself, too sweet for me early in the morning. :x
How are your pups and your parrot?
-
They're doin' good :). I've been tryin' to teach my parrot how to do Curly Howard's (The Three Stooges) "n'yuk, n'yuk, n'yuk" and "woo woo woo", and so far he's only picked up on the "woo woo woo" :lol.
-
I don't have a question at this time. I just wanted to say that I just read that last post, and totally cracked up. (I was sitting down, so I didn't keel over laughing, but my head did hit the keyboard.)
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
EDIT: Okay...I think I've come up with one: how long have you been watching The Three Stooges?
-
I used to watch it in my teen years, when I had more time on my hands. I really should get back around to watching it :lol.
-
I know you like Evanescence, so do you know anything about Amy Lee the lead singer? (I'm doing a speech about her soon.)
-
From what I can remember, she is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. Ben Moody (the original guitarist) discovered her talent at a music camp when she was playing the piano while singing Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love But I Won't Do That". They released a demo CD in 1999, but it was the song "Bring Me To Life" that was their breakthrough. I have also read that she is married (I think two years by now) but still goes by her maiden name, and the group is getting ready to release a Celtic-like album next year (which I'm really lookin' forward to :D). I can't recall who she married, but it is not a celebrity. She had dated the lead singer of Seether for some time, and they even recorded the duet "Broken" (love that song), but I read in an interview she ended the relationship due to him being a heavy drinker. That's what inspired the song "Call Me When You're Sober". I believe she has expressed interest in an acting career, but since I don't know what film projects she's involved with, please don't quote me on that. One more thing I know: a sister of her's died when the sister was very young, and it is believed that is what the song "Hello" is about. It is also said the song "Like You" is written for her deceased sister, but I'm not sure about that. It sounds more like an afterlife romantic relationship to me .
That's all I can think of without doing research ;).
-
What is one thing you would change about Twilight Valley? Also, do you have any suggestions or improvements?
-
The first thing that comes to my mind is more profanity/obscenities, especially during the fight scenes, but that's my thought. It all depends on how far the author can comfortably take language. I don't use F-bombs, n*****, certain vulgarities, or any curse with God's name in it, either in my writing or in everyday life. Anything else is fair game :p. As for ideas, the only one I can think of for now is to keep the one about capturing and interrogating an enemy sickleclaw ;).
-

Well, I can take foul language to its maximum level but the dinosaurs do not understand certain anatomical terms, religious/racial slurs, anything with God's name in them, the F-obscenity, the b-obscenity, the s-obscenity. That limits me to about 4 profanities, thus I have to use them sparingly or they lose impact.
Also, how many times do you see people talking in fight scenes? :lol
On a side note, why more profanities?
----------------------------
Do you like electronic music?
-
I guess it's 'cuz a high amount of profanity added to a battle of life or death seems to add to the emotional intensity of fights. I suppose after watching things like the "Saw" series, in which much profanity is used during the trap scenes, it seems weird to see just a moderate amount of profanity used, but that's just me . As for the dinosaurs' limited knowledge of profanity/obscenities, I totally forgot about that, so nevermind that idea :bang :bang.
I like some electronic music, but not too much. Just a random electronic song here and there :).
-
Well, thanks for the idea.
---------------------------
Do you like Symphonic Metal?
-
I like some symphonic metal. Like electronic, I also like random bits of symphonic metal.
-
Hi, how are you? ^^
-
I'm good :D.
-
Are you a fan of Phantom of the Opera? :D
-
I never did get into it .
-
When was the last time you heard a REALLY good song?
-
Several days ago, when I first heard Three Days Grace's new song "Break". I added it to my mp3 player that night :smile.
-
When was the last time you read a hatefic? :p
-
It's been at least six months. I try to approach LBT stories on FF.net with an open mind, but I regret that each time I come across a hatefic <_<.
-
If someone right now said, "I don't like Cera", how would you react?
-
First I'd ask "Why?", then afterwards say, "Well, each to his or her own I guess." :p
-
What are you planning to be for Halloween? :D
-
Well, I have to work again this year, so I think I'll wear my tiger ears and tail. Funny how so many folks like to pull my tail when I either walk past them or they're walkin' behind me :lol.
-
^:lol
What's your favorite holiday?
-
Christmas! I love the decorations, music, treats, giving to others, and most importantly the true meaning behind it :yes.
-
:lol, when do you think you are going to post in the "In the Land Before Time" rp? Take your time, I'm just curious. :p
-
Should be shortly. I just had a random, raging fit of the giggles that lasted for a few minutes, so I had to take a break from my computer :spit.
-
If I remember correctly, you once listed all the US states you've been to, and Vermont (my home state) was one of them. I'm curious, when did you visit Vermont and exactly which parts did you visit?
-
I visited Vermont in October 2007, when my family and I took a road trip through New England to see the fall colors. We stayed in White River Junction overnight, and the rest of what we saw was all countryside. Vermont is a gorgeous state, in my opinion :yes.
-
Do you like military technology?
-
Somewhat. I was especially excited about Nintendo collaborating with the U.S. Army about using the Wii technology to make some sort of a gadget (used for searching buildings, vehicles, etc.) in which troops use the Wii remote to control it. If a bomb is present, the gadget will get destroyed instead of a troop losing his life. I really like the sound of this innovation, and I even made a thread about it in the AM Section a long time ago :yes.
-
Do you have a favorite mystical creature?
-
I would have to say unicorns are my favorite :).
-
Has anyone ever called you Anna Banana before? :lol And do you like that nickname?
-
I've been called that since I came into this world :lol. I'm used to it.
-
How did you enjoy the latest chapter of Far Away Home? Cera gets almost half the chapter to herself in the events after her kidnapping!
-
I really felt sorry for her in the chapter. I thought what those wingtails did was downright dirty. Certainly, even the strongest swimmer in the world would've drowned in that mess. They should've chosen a calmer body of water, but oh well. I really do hope Ruby and Chomper rescue her soon :).
-
What's your favorite color? ^^
-
My favorite color is blue :).
-
If Universal made movie adaptations of Out of the Shadows, Twilight Valley, Time Gate X, Rise of Storm Tide, Far Away Home and Land Before Time: The Mysterious World, which would you watch (assuming you can choose all of them)?
-
I'd watch all of 'em, though "Out of the Shadows" might get depressing. It's an awesome story, and I mean no disrespect to DarkHououmon, and although I know the characters would come back to life in the end, it's still depressing to think about any of the Gang dying.
-
Hey Anna, how are you feeling? :) Especially right after donating blood.
-
I'm alright :yes. I'm still feelin' weak, first from my weeklong battle with flu-like symptoms and then giving blood. Everything's fine here, thanks :).
-
That's good. :)
How's your pups and bird? :^.^:
-
They're spoiled as always :p. If one or both of the dogs sleep on my bed, they actually jump on me and stay put when I try to get up in the mornin' :lol. Or, sometimes one of the dogs will reach out with a paw and place it on me when I try to get up. They definitely have human sides :lol.
As for Howard, sometimes when I get him up lately, I find him hanging upside-down like a bat . He's already awake when he does that, though :p.
-
They sound like very fun animals. ^^ Hehe
Did you watch any horror movies today?
-
They're great company :smile.
Nah, I had to work. I usually have to work on Halloween, but I don't mind. I dressed up as a black cat and everyone thought I was cute :smile.
-
As for Howard, sometimes when I get him up lately, I find him hanging upside-down like a bat . He's already awake when he does that, though :p.
He must know it's Halloween and is trying to act accordingly despite not having a costume. :lol
By the way, that blood donation story was scary. Glad you're okay. :)
So, how's your flu? Have the symptoms subsided any?
-
Are you a furry and do you know what they are? :)
-
Pangaea- I'm feelin' much better, thanks :). My symptoms have all subsided.
Rat_Lady7- I never heard of furries until I joined the GOF. I guess I can say I'm a furry 'cuz I like to draw anime humanoid animals (and draw animals in general), but that's about it. I don't engage in any strange "fetishes".
-
In the case of Far Away Home, did you find that Sky's drawings helped you to visualize the characters better, or would you have liked it just the same without them?
Caustizer.
-
I had a pretty good idea of what the characters looked like prior to seeing Sky's artwork, but Sky's artwork helped confirm how I imagined the character to look :yes.
-
In your opinion, what was the saddest movie you ever seen? And what was the saddest scene ever in movie history? In your opinion also. :)
-
Oh, wow. There are several movies I feel tie for first place in saddest movie of all time. If I had to pick just one, I'd say the original "Charlotte's Web". I have never been able to watch that movie without bawling :cry. If I had to pick a scene for saddest scene in all of movie history, it would be the scene in "The Fox and the Hound" when Widow Tweed drops Todd off at the game preserve and leaves him there. If you've ever had to leave a pet behind, you'd find this scene can be especially emotional. Once, when I was nine years old, my family had to transfer to another part of the country (part of bein' in a Navy family ;)), and we could not bring our cat with us. We had to give her back to her breeder :neutral. Not only could we not bring her, but my mother happened to develop an allergy to cats. That was hard, although it's not as hard as putting a pet to sleep :cry.
-
Here's a different variant of Rat Lady's last question: In your opinion, what's the funniest movie you've ever seen, and the funniest scene in movie history? :p
-
This is even harder to answer :lol! I've seen far more funny movies than sad movies, so if I had to just name one, it would be "Dirty Work" :lol. One of the funniest scenes in the movie took place while the two main characters were vandalizing a housing complex. One of the main characters was throwin' cherry bombs into the toilets and blowin' 'em up, and one bomb turned out to be a dud. What does the character do? He grabs a newspaper and sits on the throne to do his business, and the next part is predictable :p. The bomb went off while he was "busy" :spit.
Pickin' out the funniest scene ever in a movie is even harder, so I'll go with one that I found to be totally unpredictable. In the movie "Flubber", one of the antagonists ends up swallowing the little flubber dude . Certainly, the flubber would have to come out somewhere. I was expecting the flubber to come out where it had entered the guy, but instead, the guy ended up releasing the flubber via breakin' wind :spit! That caught me by surprise and was hilarious :lol!
-
How are you doing CT? :)
-
I'm doin' good, thanks :).
-
How was your thanksgiving? ^^
-
It was nice, thanks :yes. We usually cook our Thanksgiving dinner and eat at home, but since the kitchen is not finished yet, we ate out this year. Oh, and I got the Christmas tree and other decorations up :smile.
-
How are you doing CT? :)
-
I'm pretty stressed with finals comin' up next week .
-
How are you doing in your job? :)
-
Fortunately, my job is holding up well :yes.
-
That's awesome! :)
What are your favorite tv shows? Or do you really watch tv? ^^ hehe
-
What is your opinion on me putting the Yellowbellies in TWV?
-
Rat_Lady7: Thanks :)!
Meh...I don't really have time for TV :p. I like TV shows that mostly deal with forensics, law enforcement, and nature, so I mainly have the TV on A&E or Animal Planet. I also like the Discovery Health channel, SpongeBob, The Biggest Loser, The Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives, and Hell's Kitchen.
Serris: I'm afraid they'll get whacked faster than they come into the storyline :slap. That is, if they have not been whacked by now :p.
*Tries to recall if Yellowbellies are still alive in TWV*
They're awfully scatterbrained for engaging in warfare, that's for sure :crazy.
-
When preparing for finals and all that, how do you study?
-
Just review class notes :p. To be honest, I have such a good memory that I can recall at least most of what I've learned, making studying easy for me :yes.
-
Thanks for the tips CT. :)
Hmm questions...
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
-
That one's tough, but I think I'd be a dolphin since I love the water and I'd be tough enough to kick the scales off any sharks who dare try to take a bite out of me :p.
-
How was your Christmas vacation? :)
-
It was an absolute blast :yes! There was a total of eight in my group, two of which were guides, and we lived out in the Boundary Waters wilderness (I'm sure you're familiar with, or at least have heard of, it ;)) for four days and three nights while dogsledding. I'll have pictures up soon :yes. I bet Minnesota's also pretty in the warmer months.
-
Can’t wait for the pictures. :)
Is your new avatar for 2010 your own artwork, or did you get it from somewhere else? (Either way, I think it’s cute. :DD)
-
I found it somewhere else ;). Thanks, BTW. Ya know, I have not drawn any pictures for quite some time now. I'll have to get around to it so I can begin posting artwork on here :yes.
-
Having read one of your own questions in another thread Anna, have you read the Neverending story? How do you like it?
-
I have not read the book. I've only seen the films, and only the first film is really good in my opinion. When I was younger, I was almost as crazy about the film as I am about LBT. I would even have occasional dreams in which I was in the place of Atreyu :smile. He's my favorite character, BTW.
Because it seems in many cases that film adaptations are not as good as the books, I'll have to read this one and see for myself which one is better :yes.
-
Because it seems in many cases that film adaptations are not as good as the books, I'll have to read this one and see for myself which one is better
Absolutely :yes
It is a book which I keep recommending to anyone with whom I am talking about books. It is of course very exciting to read, but it would be unfair to Michael Ende to reduce it to an "entertaining kid's book" only. Michael Ende included many really interesting philosophical thoughts in this book; thoughts which are unfortunately not included (same as many other elements of the book) in the movies.
-
Not sure if this has been asked before, but have you ever owned a cat?
-
I did when I was younger. However, my mother developed an allergy to cats :(.
-
Did you see any interesting wildlife on your trip up north?
-
Not much more than a LOT of deer . I hear they like the salt that is put on the roads, so that made driving at night feel like playing dodgeball in the dark with a flashlight. Headlights are the flashlight, deer are the dodgeballs :p. Not everybody gets my analogies, so I hope I made sense of this by pointing out what is what :lol. Our group saw a wolf running away from us in the distance, but that was about it. I was hoping to see a moose, but I understand they're seldom seen so I never saw one. We did see a lot of wildlife tracks in the snow that belonged to bears, otters, beavers, foxes, and wolves.
I do regret that, since I was in the middle of taking pictures, I did not see an American Bald Eagle couple perched in their nest. This was when we were cutting through Michigan's U.P. toward Minnesota. My mother had spotted 'em, but she was unable to slow down so we could get a better look 'cuz there were cars behind us. I've seen American Bald Eagles before, but they're beautiful birds and I can't get enough of 'em. They're a rare sight in the wild :yes.
-
How are you doing? :)
-
Well, not as good as I would like to be. Ever try to help a friend or loved one out and then they are rude or even mean in return? That's what I'm dealin' with right now <_<. I keep makin' attempts to get into a better mood, and so far not a thing has worked for long. So, I'm basically feeling unappreciated right now.
-
Which member of your family do you feel closest to?
-
The family member I feel closest to is my mother :yes.
-
How does it feel being a member here for TWO years? :D
-
Awesome :smile!
-
Was it a guilty pleasure to see the Yellowbellies get massacred in TWV?
-
Honestly, I had very mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the Yellowbellies are so stupid that I have no idea how they existed for longer than a week :crazy. On the other hand, I found their massacre in TWV to be very disturbing. Just when I thought the scenes of poor Ducky being tortured were as disturbing as it could get, this massacre came along. Much as I can't stand the Yellowbellies, I'm not sure I can say it was a guilty pleasure to see them get brutally massacred :x.
-
Do you have a favorite ethnic cuisine? ^..^
Also, what's your favorite video game?
And one more question. Do you like to cook?
-
To answer your questions:
1. No, I do not have a favorite ethnic cuisine. I like a bit of every cuisine out there. The kinds I consume most frequently are Italian, Mexican, and Chinese foods. I'm not too crazy about American food. Things like hamburgers, hotdogs, and french fries (deep-fried) don't settle well with my system very well :x.
2. I have a lot of video games I like. If I had to pick just one, I'd say Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
3. Yeah, I like to cook :smile. I don't spend much time doing it 'cuz I don't need much food to sustain myself (my appetite's almost like that of an elderly person's appetite), but when I do cook I enjoy it a lot :yes.
-
You have often mentioned that you have a sweet tooth. What are your favorite things to satisfy it with?
-
Have you been to Mexico before, if so what parts?
-
For me, soda (usually Pepsi, Coke, or Mountain Dew) normally does the trick :lol.
I have been to Mexico before, Amy :yes. I've only been on the eastern side of the country, and I visited the areas of Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. I swam with stingrays in Grand Cayman, snorkeled in coral reefs in Costa Maya, and kayaked through mangroves with alligators in them in Cozumel :smile. The country is nice, but it's sad to see how poor many of the people are.
-
I swam with stingrays in Grand Cayman, snorkeled in coral reefs in Costa Maya, and kayaked through mangroves with alligators in them in Cozumel :smile.
Oh, wow. :wow I envy you.
Are there any sweet foods (the solid kind :p) that you like? (You mentioned marshmallows on the "Tell us something about yourself" thread.)
-
Oh, I love sweet food :lol. I just don't eat too much of it for the reason of watching what I eat. As you've pointed out, marshmallows are on the list :smile. So is dark chocolate, gummy bears, Jolly Ranchers, Lifesavers, dried sweetened hibiscus flowers, Craisins, dark chocolate covered raisins, chocolate peanut butter balls, soy ice cream sandwiches, Italian ice, and various baked goods :lol.
-
To what degree do you believe in horoscopes?
-
Actually, I'm only somewhat of a believer in horoscopes. While I do not believe in things like tarot card readings or even daily lucky numbers, I have found that many, if not most, of the daily predictions seem to be coincidental. Some of the predictions never happen to me, but many of the predictions seem to. It's probably just coincidence ;).
My screen name on the GOF reflects both my Roman and Chinese zodiac signs. The personalities and characteristics of both signs very closely resemble my personality.
All in all, I read horoscopes mostly for fun. I am not too obsessed with them :p.
-
What are your favorite animated films (traditional, CGI, or stop-motion) besides LBT?
-
Aside from LBT, I am pretty much entirely into the Disney classics and films up through Toy Story 2 (and perhaps the anticipated Toy Story 3 will make it to the list :D), the animated version of The Swan Princess, and We're Back! (I'm not ashamed to admit it :smile!).
Ironically, I did not really care for Disney's Dinosaur. I felt they stole too many ideas from the LBT series AND got away with it, but that's another topic <_<. Of all the styles of animation out there, I prefer traditional the most ;).
-
Bit of a blunt question but do you draw? Do you like to draw?
-
I love drawing :D. I've been drawing since I was at least four years old. I'm self-taught, meaning I have never received any formal instruction for drawing. Although I don't normally like being the center of attention, I actually liked it back in grade school when some of my classmates would ask me to make drawings for them :). Since I've been talking with my biological family, I have found out that being a natural or self-taught at drawing is hereditary in the family. My thirteen year-old brother already knows how to draw anime characters (mostly human characters that are quite detailed, not as simple as Jigglypuff).
I'm planning on getting a printer that has a scanner built into it soon, so I hope to start posting drawing here in the future :yes.
-
Self taught is the best way (I think).
What do you draw? Do you have a particular area or do you tend to experiment with other areas?
Do you collect anything?
-
I mostly draw human characters, and I sometimes experiment with drawing animals and even LBT characters :).
I have a couple of things I like to collect. I have a collection of Nene Thomas fairy figurines, windchimes, a few Cocker Spaniel stuffed animals/toys, a few Ducky plushies/toys, and a good-size collection of threehorns (not just Cera, but other threehorn plushies and toys) :smile.
I actually have a lot of LBT plushies, but as of now I don't have enough space to display them. I keep my Duckys out with a couple of seashells (one is a whelk shell) and a crab figurine (my Roman zodiac animal). Since my element is water, and I love swimming, I figured I'd put 'em together ;).
-
In recent years which Disney movie is your favorite?
-
The last Disney film I have found enjoyable is Toy Story 2, and that was about ten years ago :p.
-
Not the Lion King????
(joking)
Well, I wanted to ask you this...do you find yourself caring quite deeply that whatever is going on affects you as equally as the person who is involved?
Since being an Aspie you probably know all about obsessions that consume, so I was wondering what was your longest running obsession/passion that you have or had?
-
I'm terribly caring and sensitive about what happens to others. My family and myself often describe me as a "vibe magnet". In other words, I tend to pick up on the feelings of others around me and feel them quite intensely. I can't even watch the news much, since I tend to get very upset about all the negative stories that are covered. I'm oftentimes described as a terribly sensitive, tender-hearted individual, and I know why because of this :yes.
My longest-running obsession has been LBT. Been a big fan since I was seven years old :smile.
-
If you had the chance to visit the Bahamas would you?
-
Yeah, I would :yes.
-
Not that there's anything wrong with it, but why'd you choose such a scary image for your new avatar?
-
I just wanted to comment, I LOVE your new avatar CT! I <3 Disturbed, such a strange metal band. ^^
Do you still have VHS, or did you mostly shift to DVDs?
-
Thanks! I've also changed my desktop image to match my avatar :smile. "The Guy" is so spooky and that makes him only more interesting :lol.
To answer your question, I still have many VHS tapes. Only since they've stopped making VHS copies of films did I start buying DVDs. I have a VCR that plays both VHS and DVD, so at least I can still watch my old VHS films :yes.
-
Ohhhhh..."Disturbed" is a band name! I see! :o I thought your member title implied that you were a disturbed person who was a fan of LBT, and thought, "what the heck?". :confused I'm so doggone literal. :rolleyes
That gives me an idea for another question: do you ever find that you have a hard time recognizing when someone is joking, being sarcastic, or otherwise not literally meaning what they say?
-
Yup, I frequently have difficulty understanding whether or not someone's bein' sarcastic, joking, or other forms of not being literal. Funny enough, I'm excellent with humor and sarcasm, and I can come up with some of the wittiest puns, but I can't catch on to 'em very well when someone else is doin' the same thing :confused.
-
Are you still following Far Away Home, or have you lost interest?
-
This might be an odd question, but do you believe in the term "guilty pleasure" as in having "LBT as a guilty pleasure" due to certain circumstances of what seems to be socially acceptable in society, or do you kick out the labels and just like what you like even if other people would call them guilty pleasures?
-
Caustizer: Yup, I'm still following Far Away Home. I have not lost interest in the least. Usually, somebody else beats me to what I'd like to say in a Far Away Home review, so I don't bother repeating what they said. I guess it would not hurt to do so anyway, but yes, I'm still following your fanfic :yes.
Rat_lady7: Hmm...this does require some thought. I do understand the sexual connotation society has placed upon the term "guilty pleasure", and therefore its a term I tend to avoid. I don't see LBT as a guilty pleasure. To hopefully answer your question clearer, I just allow myself to have my interests and fandoms regardless of the labels others may place upon them. Whether or not an individual agrees with my interests is their call and not mine, and I don't let it influence what I like and don't like. I make those decisions on my own ;).
-
I'm just curious where did you get the information that "guilty pleasure" was used for a sexual connotation as well as for something society would not accept as "top notch quality"?
I just never heard it used at that way before, I even looked it up and I couldn't find it. :p
Edit: Oh nevermind, I found the definition. :p
-
I've just heard others use it in that context, and so that's where I got that idea :rolleyes. BTW, I never thought of a guilty pleasure as something that is not shameful and decent, such as liking an animated series with good morals and lessons. I thought a guilty pleasure is something that's kept hidden due to the controversial nature of it (i.e. liking to watch porn).
The fact that I've heard others use that term when referring to things sexual in nature, is the reason I tend to shy away from that term :bang.
-
How are you doing CT?
-
I'm doin' good, thanks :). I just arrived at Glacier National Park in Montana from Yellowstone National Park this evening, and the bad weather has forced us (my mother and I) to get a lodge room instead of a tent site, so I feel more human again :lol. Seriously, I've tent-camped my way across the country and its been a blast :yes.
-
Knowing that you enjoy the works of Stephen King, what's your favorite among them?
-
So far, my favorite work by Stephen King is his novel "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon".
-
Besides the sadly unphotographed black bear sighting (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6787&view=findpost&p=9189417), the funny prairie dog story (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=5875&view=findpost&p=9190228), :lol and that scary near-miss with the bison (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=7811&view=findpost&p=9191276), have you had any other interesting animal encounters in the time you've spent in Yellowstone? :)
-
Mostly photos, though I did get bluff-charged by a moose :p.
These first two photos are of the prarie dog I had mentioned about:
Before I called him:
And after I called him
Here's the moose just before it bluff-charged me:
Some elk with a bison in the background:
A herd of bison just outside my passenger window:
Due to picture amount limitations, I will post the rest in a new post.
-
Whoa! :wow There are some great photos in there! The last one with the bison almost looks like it could have come out of National Geographic, and I really like the one above it (with the elk AND a bison) too. :yes
By the way, unless the prairie dogs were being fed by tourists or something (I’d expect such a thing to be prohibited in a national park), I’m guessing the plumpness of that one isn’t anything to worry about. Prairie dogs naturally accumulate large stores of fat because they often need to fast for long periods later in the year, when food is less plentiful.
-
More pictures :DD:
I FINALLY got a picture of a Black Bear! Here is a cinnamon-colored Black Bear:
A coyote:
I saw these guys just today! Bighorn Sheep:

I have also seen many birds: yellow warblers, robins, ravens, bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, sandhill cranes, hummingbirds, chickadees (black-capped and mountain), mountain bluebirds, yellow finches, flickers, and Clark's nutcrackers.

Are you still following TWV?
If so what do you think of the revamped chapters (there is a link to the progress gauge in my signature)
Also, would you be interested in joining Darwin's Soldiers III: Disruptive Selection?
-
I have GOT to go to Yellowstone sometime . . .
Love the photo of the bear. You don't see a lot of pictures of cinnamon bears. (I've always been interested in animals with different color phases, including black bears.)
How many bears have you seen since you came to Yellowstone, besides this one and the first two you mentioned? (Or have they been the only ones so far?)
Also, were those first two bears black black bears, or were they a different color? :) :p
-
Serris: I continue to follow TWV, and I've posted my thoughts in the TWV thread under the Fanfiction/Fanart section :). Although I am quite unfamiliar with the Darwin's Soldiers RPs, I'm still interested in joining Darwin's Soldiers III: Disruptive Selection :yes. I just need to educate myself on what has happened ;).
Pangaea: I have seen two more Black bears (both brown-colored this time :)) since I saw the one in the picture I posted. It was a mama bear and her cub :smile. Unfortunately, they took off into some tall brush as soon as I got my camera out :bang.
Yes, the first two Black bears I saw were colored black, and they appeard to be a either a couple or siblings :).
-
PM me if you want me to give you the synopsis, rules...basically all you need to know to join Darwin's Soldiers III.
Do you like chocolate?
-
I like chocolate, especially dark chocolate. I tend to like dark chocolate that is 70% cacao or higher better than milk chocolate.
-
I have a chocolate question for you!
Do you, by any chance, like Russian Fudge? Or have you actually tried it before?
-
Sadly, I have not tried Russian Fudge yet.
-
How do you decide what Avatar to use each time you change it?
-
I only change my avatar when I feel the current one has been used long enough. The funny thing about how I decide what avatar to use next is that I choose based off whatever comes to mind or what I'm currently thinking about. In the case of my current one, which is associated with the band Disturbed, I was just listening to one of their songs on my mp3 player as I was snooping around on the GOF. I was starting to feel tired of my avatar, and as I thought about that, the band Disturbed crossed my mind. I don't put too much thought into picking an avatar, as long as it represents something about myself (interests, personality, likes, etc.).
-
I’ve had something of a fascination with bears recently. As a park ranger-in-training, have you learned any interesting and/or little-known facts about bears that you could share? :)
-
Here's my notes on our two species of bears in North America, the Black bear and the Grizzly bear :):
Black Bear Facts:
Description:
*Scientific name: Ursus americanus, belongs to the Ursidae (Bear) family.
*Height: Range from 2-3 ? feet at shoulder height, range from 4-6 ? feet in length.
*Males weigh from 200-600 pounds, while females weigh 125-350 pounds.
*Black Bears are not always black in color-can be brown, light blonde, or cinnamon in color.
*Straight facial profile, oblong ears.
*Forefeet claws look like cat claws-short, pointed, and sharply curved.
*Cat-like claws enable them to be excellent tree climbers.
*A Black Bear track shows five toes but usually no claw marks.
Reproductive Biology:
*Breeding season runs from June to July.
*Promiscuous-pairings may last up to three weeks, mate several times daily.
*Gestation lasts 6-8 weeks, but embryonic development is delayed for up to 5-6 months.
*Cubs are born during January and February in dens where mother bears hibernate.
*Average 2 cubs, but litters can range from 1-5 cubs.
*Cubs are weaned at seven months, spend winter in the den with their mother, and then the family unit breaks up in the late spring season.
*Females breed in alternate years.
Habitat:
*Found allover U.S. except for desert climates.
*Primarily forest animals-abundant in mountains and forests of America, especially the West.
Diet:
*Black Bears are omnivorous, which means they eat both plant and animal foods.
*Diet is primarily plants, berries, small mammals and rodents, and insects. They love grubs for their high fat content!
*Occasionally attacks and kills smaller mammals, mostly young, elderly, or sickly animals.
*A favorite is the huckleberry!
*Like whitebark pine and pine nuts.
*Scavengers and opportunists-eat animal carcasses, raid trashcans for human food.
Interesting facts:
*Black Bears are both nocturnal and diurnal, meaning they are active at all hours of day or night.
*Single Black Bears with no cubs are usually solitary.
*Males may kill cubs, this is thought to be the bear’s population regulation practice.
*Reproductive rate is low but so is cub mortality rate-may be due to excellent maternal care.
*Black Bears don’t dig dens. Instead, they use natural rock or timbered shelters.
*Hibernation lasts from October or November through the following spring season.
*Black Bears are not true hibernators-they wake up during hibernation season but still spend most of the hibernation season in deep sleep.
*Climb trees when scared by humans or other perceived threats.
*Black Bears lose anywhere from 20 to 40 percent of their body weight during hibernation. Therefore, they must eat thousands of calories a day during late summer and fall.
Grizzly Bear Facts:
Description:
*Scientific name: Ursus arctos horribilis, belongs to the Ursidae family.
*Height: 3-4 feet at shoulders, 6-8 ? feet in length.
*Males weigh 500-1,000 pounds, and females weigh 225-550 pounds.
*Has a distinct shoulder hump.
*Dished-in facial profile, round ears.
*Grizzly bears vary in color-black, brown, straw-yellow, cinnamon. May have light-tipped guard hairs that give a grizzled or silvertip appearance.
*Claws on forefeet are long and gently curved-become whiter with age. Some of the claws are over two inches long.
*A Grizzly Bear track shows five toes, claw marks are generally seen in tracks.
Reproductive Biology:
*Breeding season runs from May through July.
*Males fight for females-promiscuous in nature.
*Gestation is 6-8 weeks, but embryonic development is delayed for 5-6 months.
*Cubs are born in den during January and February and leave the den in April or May with their mother.
*Average one to three cubs, a litter of four is unusual.
*Cubs are not weaned until they are yearlings in the following spring.
*Cubs den with their mother the winter after they are born.
*Reproductive rate: one cub per adult female every two years.
Habitat:
*Formerly dwelled on plains, prairies, mountains, and river bottoms.
*Currently, they inhabit remote wilderness areas, uplands, mountains, and the alpine tundra.
*Only resides in western North America. They can be most commonly found in Alaska, northwestern Canada, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Diet:
*Grizzly Bears are omnivorous-70 to 80 percent of diet is plants, berries, stems, flowers, and roots.
*Animal prey typically consists of small rodents, insects, and small mammals.
*Occasionally attacks and kills smaller mammals, mostly young, elderly, or sickly animals.
*Huckleberries are a favorite!
*Likes whitebark pine and pine nuts.
*Scavengers and opportunists-will seek out animal carcasses and raid trashcans for human food.
Interesting Facts:
*Grizzly bears were seen as equal to man before White settlers came in with their rifles.
*Grizzly bear cubs can survive as orphans due to their diverse diet. Having a diverse diet means less training time for them to learn how to find food.
Commonly known as a Brown bear or a Silvertip.
*Grizzly bears are mostly solitary but will congregate at food supplies.
*Grizzly bears dig out their dens for hibernation.
*They are not true hibernators-metabolism remains relatively high, body temperature drops very little, and they can be easily awakened from their deep sleep.
*Home ranges may overlap-Grizzlies are not territorial with each other when it comes to den locations.
*Their claws and heavy weight make them unable to climb trees, but they can reach up to twelve feet up a tree by standing on their hind legs. Grizzly cubs can climb trees.
Differences between Black Bears and Grizzly Bears:
*Grizzlies are larger in size than Black bears.
*Grizzlies may kill Black bears for territorial reasons.
*Grizzly bears are known to be the fiercest and most dangerous of all bears.
*Black Bears live in more locations within North America than Grizzly bears.
*Grizzly bears cannot climb trees as well as Black bears.
*Ears and facial profile, Grizzlies have distinct shoulder hump.
More facts about bears:
*Bears have become less fearful of humans due to humans feeding them scraps or not properly storing food or keeping a campsite clean.
*Bears become more aggressive when approaching humans for food, which ultimately leads to their euthanization.
*Contrary to myth, bear attacks are rare. More humans are killed by other humans, dogs, bees, and even lightning than bears.
*Bear attacks usually occur when humans come too close to cubs, or ignore the bear’s warning signs and continue to stay in place. The bear perceives this as a challenge.
-
Wow! That’s a lot more than I expected! Thanks! :DD
By the way, forgive me if I've misunderstood what you wrote, but what part of the white pine do the bears like to eat? (I assumed that because you said “white pine and pine nuts”, that there’s something specific to the white pine that the bears eat that’s different from pine nuts in general.)
Also, I was wondering if you knew anything about bears’ fabled fondness for honey. I’d heard for a long time that, to bears that raid bees’ nests, the honey is really more of a condiment, the main course being the bees’ grubs and pupae. But do they have a sweet tooth as well? I’m curious as to whether bears like honey enough that they would, for instance, prefer to attack a bee’s nest over an ants’ nest.
-
Can you prove that you are a more obsessed fan of Cera than I am? (Take your best shot! :P: )
-
Pangaea: Thanks for pointing out the white pinebark! That should be under facts, not diet. I need to go back into my notes and make that correction :bang.
To answer your question, bears like to hang around white pinebark so their cubs can easily climb to safety if danger is sensed. The cubs' claws are able to grip the bark of these trees very well. Hope that cleared up the confusion.
As for the fabled fondness for honey, that is a fact and is especially true of Black bears. They do in fact eat the bees, grubs, and pupae, and the honey comes as a bonus :smile. They do have a sweet tooth and are especially attracted to anything that has a sweet scent. That's why we instruct our campers and backcountry hikers/campers to properly store away ANY cosmetics and toiletries, since these all smell like sweets to bears.
Pokeplayer: Let's see...
*I have a collection of Cera plushies and toys.
*I have written many stories over the years about going on crazy adventures with her.
*Cera shows up in at least one of my dreams almost every night.
*I have drawn her so many times I can draw her to probably 100% perfection without even looking at an image of her for reference.
*In many of my dreams, she's a human in our world, and I've even dreamed about her ancestors as humans in the human world and even family health history.
*Up to the sixth grade, I included her in any fiction story I had to write for an assignment.
*When I was much younger, I had a dream that her mother was a human, and that she had a baby as a result of being raped before she met who would become Cera's father. She had given the baby up for adoption at birth, and years later the baby and Cera met at school. Guess who the baby was :smile?
My apologies if I sound mentally disturbed :!. She's always been a character I can relate to, Ducky being another one. However, I was so much like Ducky when I was growing up, and this made me even more drawn to Cera's attitude :smile. Now I'm more like a Cera/Ducky mix since I finally grew a pair and started sticking up for myself ;).
-
Okay, you win! :^.^:
You mentioned that Cera appears as a human in your dreams sometimes. Can you tell us what she looks like?
-
My dreams have shown the following:
Cera would be of Western European descent, most likely Scots-Irish and some German and possibly French. She stands at 5'5", 125 lbs. She has shoulderblade-length curly light brown hair, green-blue eyes, and a very fair skin tone. She still has the same tomboyish attitude we all know, and in dreams where she was older than preteen years, she appears much nicer but still stands her ground :smile.
-
Have you ever seen these creatures before? And have you ever dreamt about them? I mostly ask because I have dreamt about a black one that knew how to fly. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axolotl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axolotl)
-
Sorry, I have never seen nor heard of these creatures before .
-
Heh, okay, I could understand why some people wouldn't know about them since they are REALLY rare to find.
How are you doing?
-
I'm good, thanks :). The weather is finally nice and above eighty degrees, so I'm happy and spending even more time outdoors. I'm also starting to apply for winter seasonal jobs, so that'll keep me busy along with the work I'm doing :yes.
I finally got my webcam in the mail, so I've been able to see my family and pets. It's one thing to hear they're okay, and it's another thing to see that they're okay :yes.
-
^ That's great to hear! :smile
Did your parrot Howard, by any chance, get his name from the surname of Moe, Curly, and Shemp of The Three Stooges?
-
Actually, no. His name was randomly picked. We would not name him until the whole household agreed on a name, and Howard just happened to be the name that was agreed on :yes. We had also considered the names Marshall and Stanley, but those names sounded too weird, so Howard it was :lol.
Howard is a clown, though. He does remind me of a stooge. That's why I taught him Curly's "n'yuk n'yuk n'yuk" followed with "woo woo woo" :lol.
-
Have you watched the Three Stooges lately?
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say that you got Howard from someone else who couldn't take care of him? Did he already have a name, and if so, did he have any difficulty adjusting to a new one?
-
He was my sister's bird originally. She's completely opposite of me in that she's very NT and likes to go out with her friends all the time, and she found that she was having a hard time keeping up with his maintenance (she lives on her own), so I took him in. Yes, Howard has been his name since she got him :yes.
-
Oh, I see. :yes (I must've missed that detail; that he belonged to your sister originally.) How old was he when she first got him?
Also, don't forget to answer Rat_lady7's question: ;)
Have you watched the Three Stooges lately?
-
Pangaea: She was seventeen when she got him, and she was nineteen when she got her first place. I helped take care of him until then, so she had no idea how much maintenance a bird can be until she was the only one taking care of him. It's better for Howard, because parrots like himself need a lot of human interaction in order to remain socialized :yes.
Rat_Lady7: No, I have not watched The Three Stooges lately, but I think I will soon :lol. BTW, I'm excited for the The Three Stooges movie :yes!
-
No, I mean, do you know how old HOWARD was when your sister got him? :lol
-
Oh, sorry :oops :bang :p! Howard was almost two years old when she got him.
I think the question has been correctly answered this time :lol.
-
^ Yeah, that did it. :lol It’s understandable; just one letter “s” makes all the difference between the two interpretations of that question.
Did you want me to review your artwork? Or would you rather avoid a potential overdose of nitpicking? :p
-
Go ahead and nitpick it if need be. I know I still have alot of room for improvement :rolleyes. I've focused more on writing than drawing over the past two years at least, so I've gotten a little rusty. I'm open to any constructive criticism but no bashing (you're not a basher, so there's no need to worry here) ;).
-
2 questions: are you still interested in Darwin's Soldiers?
And how do you like the RP?
-
Yes, I'm still interested. Like pretty much everything else, I'm going through something of a writer's block :bang.
As for my thoughts, I find the RP to be fun and interesting, as well as different since I don't normally mess with the science fiction genre.
-
What are your favorite kinds of horror films?
-
I mostly like horror films that involve supernatural/paranormal activity, and I am a fan of the slasher "Saw" series ;).
-
How did you find out about the Three Stooges Movie?
And what are your favorite metal bands besides Disturbed and Godsmack?
-
I first found out about the The Three Stooges movie on Wikipedia, and as with anything else I see on that site (even articles about medical conditions), I look to other sources to verify the information. I was told I can trust Wikipedia for research purposes, but I won't ever trust the site as my only source of info, so I also look elsewhere ;).
As for metal bands, I do like other ones including:
*Metallica
*Kittie
*Rammstein
*Static X
Disturbed remains my favorite by far :yes.
-
Hmm I should check those out, I'm become a bit of a metalhead lately. :3
Have you ever watched Family Guy?
-
I sure have, and it's quite entertaining. I especially find Peter and Stewie to be a riot :lol.
-
I agree. :D
How have you and your room mate been doing?
-
We've been getting along very well :yes. We share the same starday and have similar personalities. She's just more extrovertive :p.
-
What humor DOESN'T amuse you?
-
If I had to pick one, I would have to say parodies. I just don't find 'em to be very funny.
-
What are you going to do for your birthday?
-
My coworkers and I are going out for pizza after we all get off work, and it will a double celebration due to my roommate and I sharing a birthday :yes. I have just received some presents from back home, and my biological family sent a card with all their signatures accompanied by a stuffed animal of a Snowy Owl (my brothers and sisters picked it out). It really is cute, and now I have to think of a name for (I decided its a) him :DD.
-
Besides the recent incident involving the fish hook (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6787&view=findpost&p=9197415), :x any news on how Max has been lately, health-wise? I remember you being concerned about a potential tumor the vet had found on him.
-
Thanks for your concern :). I keep hearing that he's doing fine. Not a thing has changed about him, including his eagerness for walks and, of course, food :p. He even continues to be a "counter surfer", which is a dog that sneaks into the kitchen and swipes bread, cookies, or anything else that has been left on the counter and only leaves the packaging behind. Worse, he's taught Pepper how to be a counter surfer :rolleyes.
-
^ Oh dear. :lol At least he’s doing well.
Will you be posting any more LBT fanart soon? :)
-
I hope to make more soon. I'll try to have more posted later this week :angel.
-
^ Fantastic! :DD
Any luck coming up with a name for that toy snowy owl? :p
-
Actually, I've been so busy I haven't even come up with a name yet :bang.
-
Owls are cool. ^^
When it comes to money, do you usually tend to be a major spender, a saver, or somewhere in between?
-
Most of the time I tend to be a saver. We did not have much income wen I was growing up, so I was taught things like looking for sales, using coupons and even bargaining in some cases (garage sales, for example ;)). Even when I travel, I'm more wise about souvenirs and only pick out meaningful ones, since I'd rather spend money doing adventurous activities or trying out local foods and drinks ;).
I tend to be a bigger spender on Christmas and birthday presents for loved ones. I like giving presents that are meaningful and not just fads :yes.
-
What kinds of wildlife do you most enjoy seeing or watching in Yellowstone?
-
I have no favorites since I like wildlife in general, so it's very hard for me to single out any particular species . I'm still on the search for Gray wolves, though. I've heard them at night but I have yet to see these guys :).
-
This may be a little strange, but I had some questions about the idea you posted in my “Ask Me” thread (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6185&view=findpost&p=9198632) about a thread for the funniest or wittiest things members have said or heard in real life:
First, do you think such a thread would be best placed in the Party Room, the Fridge, or the After Midnight section?
Second, any suggestions or preferences for what it should be called? I was thinking “Real-Life Comedy (The funniest things you've said or heard)” or “The Funniest Things You've Said or Heard (Quips and conversations from real life)”.
Third, do you think such a thread should also invite members to share amusing personal stories, or be specifically limited to quotes?
P.S. Congratulations on finally seeing some wolves (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6787&view=findpost&p=9198724)! :D
-
Okay, I think I finally have an answer :p!
1. I think the Party Room would be okay, provided members keep quotes/stories at an appropriate level and keep the censorship rules in mind :angel.
2. “The Funniest Things You've Said or Heard (Quips and conversations from real life)” sounds like agood title :yes.
3. I think amusing stories should be allowed. It's a funny thread, why not :lol?
-
Been awhile since I asked you a question. :)
So I know you have a sweet tooth, what is your favorite sweet treat? Or do you have more then one favorite?
Also, I overheard the news at yellowstone park. Are you and the other guides there okay?
-
I have a lot of favorite sweet treats, and I'll go with what my tastebuds are craving at the time :lol. My most recent addition to my sweets list is the huckleberry milkshake. I've grown quite fond of huckleberry products this summer :p.
Yup, the others and myself are all okay :yes.
-
Stupid question:
What are your major pet peeves?
-
The only stupid question is the question not asked ;).
As for pet peeves, mine include:
*When folks don't use their common sense.
*Parents who don't discipline their kids and let them be out of control.
*Mean people.
*Mosquitoes :rolleyes.
*Debt.
-

Thank you very much! :)
What would you say is the scariest wildlife encounter you've ever had?
-
I had this question hanging over my head for awhile, so I wanted to ask now.
Did you move to Wyoming? Or are you just there for the summer?
-
Pangaea:
I'd have to say it happened last year when I was helping lead some kids on a hike in a local state park. I came within inches of stepping on a thirty inch-long redbelly water snake :!. They're not venomous, but they do have nasty bites :x. A couple of years before, in the same park, I came close to stepping on a copperhead but saw it before I could get within striking distance. Copperheads are very venomous .
Another one was this past spring, when I was sorting out some planting pots to put plants in for the summer. Just as I went to grab a pot, a black widow spider crawled out of the pot :o.
There is no wildlife that scare me like the ones I can't see, such as spiders, scorpions, parasites, and venomous snakes. I'd rather put up with bears than spiders :rolleyes.
Rat_lady7:
I'm just out here for the summer ;). In the meantime, I'm trying to find winter seasonal employment in other national parks that are open in the winter :yes.
-
There is no wildlife that scare me like the ones I can't see, such as spiders, scorpions, parasites, and venomous snakes.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. (I don't mind non-lethal spiders, but a black widow? Yikes.)
Do you think you'll be returning to work at Yellowstone in future summers?
-
I hope so. I was told recently that I may have a very good chance at getting next summer if somebody decides to not return for the season :yes.
-
How are you doing? :)
-
Pretty good as usual, and I think I slept better last night so my thought processes are much clearer now :lol.
-
How are you and your room mate getting along?
-
Very well, thanks :yes. We both have random senses of humor, so we get along quite nicely.
She was sad today though, 'cuz her cat had to be put down yesterday :cry. We're not allowed to have pets in the employee housing units, and so our pets have had to stay at home with our families, so she never had a chance to see her kitty before the cat was put down. It was sudden and weird from what I understand. The cat had not been eating for a few days, and then she all of a sudden collapsed and did not bounce back . She was an old cat from what I understand. It's really, really hard to lose pets no matter what their age is :cry.
-
^That's good, it's nice to have a room mate that you can get along with. I can only imagine what it's like for the people that have to be with an annoying and obnoxious room mate, or be with someone they just don't get along with. :x
I'm sorry about that. :( :cry *hugs you and your room mate*
I'm sort of in the same situation if you don't know already. My oldest cat is very thin and he has his good days as well as bad days. He stays with us even though he might not be eating or might be in pain. It's sort of hard to tell with him if he wants to go or not. :p
Anyway, speaking of your pets, how are your animals doing? :)
-
They're doin' good, thanks :smile. I ask everyday how they are, and so far they're happy and healthy, not to mention spoiled as always :lol. I understand Howard has picked up the F-word from TV once again :rolleyes.
-
^Ah gee... :lol :smile
Have you felt any spirits or ghosts where you live now?
-
Hey CT, I -believe- you have said you were a religious person, but I still wanted to ask you like I have asked a few others:
What's your opinion on religion as a whole? Or I guess to explain it a bit more, do you think religion is essential to human beings?
-
To answer your questions:
*I thought I was feelin' a presence some time back. I felt like I was bein' watched when I went to bed, and sometimes I would hear creaking noises even though it was dead silent . Also, the past few weeks, I've noticed my alarm is weird. In the course of two days on average, it will speed to forty minutes ahead on its own. I set it back to the right time, and two or three days later, it's back to bein' forty minutes ahead . Weird :crazy.
*As for religion, I think the reason it was created was for people to live better lives and follow a standard of living that values respect for self and one another. Sadly, however, many feel that they only have to be a Christian or whatever their religion is for only one hour a week and then they can spend the rest of the time condradicting everything their religion stands for. I believe that a person should truly "feel" their religion if they are to be a member of it. They should not just go through the motions and rituals of worship, but should also find meaning in it so they'll be true to what they preach and feel more spiritually wholesome. That's just my opinion, though, and I hope I did not just offend anybody. I hope I was able to answer your questions :).
-
Have you ever thought about starting into paranormal investigating?
-
I know you like horror movies and rock music, so have you ever heard of Repo: The Genetic Opera? (http://www.repo-opera.com/)
-
Mirumoto_Kenjiro: I have thought about it now and then, but investigating paranormal activity as a profession does not seem to entirely appeal to me :confused.
Rat_lady7: I have heard of this film, but I have yet to see it ;).
-
What do you know about black bear attacks in Yellowstone? (How common they are, how many people are injured, the severity of the injuries, etc.) When I visited the American Bear Center in Ely, I learned that black bears often bluff-charge humans in an attempt to intimidate them, but very rarely actually attack them. I didn't know, however, whether any studies of their behavior had been done in Yellowstone, so I'm wondering if the bears there are any more dangerous.
-
From what I understand, Black bears are not anymore dangerous in Yellowstone. Most times, they do in fact bluff charge in attempts to spook or ward off any perceived threats.
Bear attacks on humans are extremely rare occurances, though. For every ONE person attacked by a bear in the U.S. per year, SIXTEEN THOUSAND people are victims of homicide. People are FORTY-SEVEN times more likely to be attacked by a dog than a bear. Human maulings and deaths caused by bears account for barely a fraction of deaths people suffer from bee stings, lightning strikes, dog attacks, homicide, suicide, and car accidents each year.
Unless you've been feeding a Black bear or try to pet a cub (or venture into a huckleberry patch when one is feeding :rolleyes), they tend to have a natural fear of humans. Their natural reaction is to run up a tree if they see humans. It's the Grizzly bear that is naturally fearless of humans :yes. They are the largest predators in North America and they know it. They have that "Large and in charge!" mentality :p.
I have not heard of any Black bear maulings in Yellowstone this year. There have been several folks like myself who have been bluff charged by a Black bear, but so far nobody has been injured by one.
There was one death in Yellowstone this year, and it involved a Grizzly bear being used for research. Apparently the victim had been warned that there was a tranquilized Grizzly in the area, and yet he still ventured in to get up close and personal with the bear. Not only did it cost him his life (bears are VERY PISSED after they have been tranquilized and relocated :bang), but also the life of the bear. Due to the stupidity of this individual, the bear had to be euthanized :cry.
So, if anyone here is interesting in visiting Bear Country, please do respect the bears by not approaching them too closely or feeding them. At least most of our bears have been kept wild with the help of our visitors cooperating with the park on bear safety and regulations :yes.
I hope I was able to answer your question. Please let me know if further answers are needed or helpful ;).

Poor bear. :( I don't see why it needed to be put down. :bang Do bears that kill or maul people once have a tendency to become repeat offenders?
I hope I was able to answer your question. Please let me know if further answers are needed or helpful ;).
Hmm…Do you know of any black bear attacks from previous years?
-
Not only did it cost him his life (bears are VERY PISSED after they have been tranquilized and relocated :bang), but also the life of the bear. Due to the stupidity of this individual, the bear had to be euthanized :cry.
No idea how someone could be that dumb. I mean, duh!
At the risk of anthropomorphizing, I can see why the bear would be upset. If I passed out in my dorm and William and Mary and I wake up in a dorm at say, Boston University, I would be pissed too.
---------------
Om a side note, are you still following TWV? I am working when I have time on Chapter 36 but my dorm room is not super conducive to story writing.
Also, are you still continuing Darwin's Soldiers? I can give a summary if needed.
-
How are you doing CT? :)
-
Pangaea: Unfortunately for bears, they were blessed with a memory capacity extremely similar to humans. Once they've mauled a human, attempts will be made to relocate the bear, and euthanization is a last resort. Unfortunately, they do become repeat offenders, and those that kill a human will most certainly kill again, so they must be euthanized.
Serris: For a race that claims to be intelligently superior to all other living things, humans often do the stupidest things :rolleyes :bang. As for TWV, I'm still following. I just figured you're too busy revamping previous chapters to work on any new chapters, and I'm glad to hear the story is still in works. I agree about the dorm room settings. There seems to be little to no privacy. I'm sure at W&M there's a few quiet places to take off to and work on TWV :yes. As for Darwin's Soldiers, I'm still following and I seem to have gotten lost with the intense amount of posts others in the RP have made. If I could get a synopsis, that would be much appreciated :yes.
Rat_lady7: I'm good physically, and I was good emotionally until I saw your topic in the AM Section. This kind of news makes me sad, and I already posted my thoughts in your thread :cry.
-
The Far Away Home marathon is getting pretty close, with only two chapters left to go. With the ending so near, what are you hoping to see?
I'm interested to hear what you have to say.
-
So far, I'm really hoping to see Cera's group be reunited with Littlefoot's group. It'll be nice to see the Gang together as one group again :yes. Glide's character is quite intriguing, so I'd like to see him continue to be around in the next couple of chapters.
That's all I can think of for now :idea.
-
Were there any characters in the "In The Land Before Time" RP you would be willing to pick up now that Amy has left? (Namely Mr. Threehorn and Tria.) If you'd rather not play any more characters, that's okay too. :)
-
If I were to pick up any more characters in the RP, I would not be able to keep up, so I think it is best I stick to the characters I play already ;).
-
Do you have any funny quotes, conversations, or anecdotes to share in the “Funniest things you've said or heard (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=8247)” thread you suggested? (I think a lot of us could do with some humor right now. ;))
-
Bumping this thread with another question: What were your pets' reactions when they saw you for the first time in over four months?
-
To answer the first question, I almost added to your thread yesterday, but I'm not so sure the story is appropriate for GOF standards (the things an elderly, hard-of-hearing guy who would like to get lucky can come up with :rolleyes).
As for the second question, they went absolutely nuts when they first saw me :lol. The dogs knocked me down and would not stop giving kisses :lol. Howard danced and whistled, and when I let him perch on my right hand, he would not stop rubbing his head against my left hand for at least ten minutes.
They really did miss me, and as soon as I went to bed, both dogs ran upstairs, jumped on me, and curled up before they feel asleep. I'm the only one in the house that allows the dogs to sleep on my bed, so I think they really missed that :lol.
-
^ Aww, that's so sweet! :DD (For some reason, I think Howard's reaction sounds especially cute. I guess I like it because it shows that mammals aren't the only creatures that can be affectionate.)
I almost added to your thread yesterday, but I'm not so sure the story is appropriate for GOF standards (the things an elderly, hard-of-hearing guy who would like to get lucky can come up with :rolleyes).
Oh well. I’d think that you’d have plenty of other funny stories to tell, though. For example, you could share your “geranium to the cranium” (:lol) story again, since the other place you told it is buried deep in the “Tell us something about yourself” thread.
That brings me to my next question: did you get the “geranium to the cranium” phrase from the second Homeward Bound movie, or did you come up with it yourself?
-
What is your most memorable/favourite moment in Far Away Home so far?
-
Pangaea: Yup, I picked up that line from the second "Homeward Bound" film :p. Since I had actually knocked myself upside the head with a hanging pot of geraniums, I felt the quote was fitting :lol.
Caustizer: For me, the most memorable part in "Far Away Home" so far would have to be the whirlpool scene. I think it was the intensity of the scene that made it memorable to me :yes.
-
Now that you're back home, what are you planning to do, work-wise, until you (hopefully) return to Yellowstone next year?
-
Do you know Anna if you will be at Yellowstone or in Virginia in late July next year? Absolutely nothing concrete on my end but I will in any case try if there is any chance to get a job / internship or (if I can afford it) a mere holiday to the region around Washington at the time hoping to gather some material for a work on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War events which are going to take place there at the time. Like I said there is nothing definite on my end at all, but if I did succeed in crossing the big pond it would of course be awesome to meet you.
-
Pangaea: Well, I continue to apply for jobs in other parks, and I understand it is very difficult to get in for the winter season (takes the average person six years ). I need to build up even more on my retail and inventory skills, so at the same time I've been trying to find employment with local retail companies to get me through the winter, but so far no such luck :bang. Whenever I'm not job searching, I'm usually preoccupying myself with home improvement projects that got placed on the back burner when I left for the summer.
Malte: I have no idea as of now where I will be by July of next year, and I'll post an update when I know for sure. I agree that it would be awesome to meet :).
-
About how many pieces are in your threehorn collection? :smile
-
Currently, there are eighteen threehorns in my collection, many of which are copies of Cera :angel :smile.
-
Another of my silly questions:
Are you an outdoors or indoors person?
-
I'm definitely an outdoors person :smile.
-
Any chance you'll be posting any more LBT fanart any time soon? :angel
-
I hope to put more up soon. I've been terrible about makin' time to draw more fanart :rolleyes.
-
Hey CT, it's been awhile since I talked to ya. :)
If you had over a million dollars, what would you do with it and why?
-
Hey, I was wondering if you are still playing Darwin's Soldiers.
-
has anyone else seen the new Scooby Doo series? i have and think its really cool..
-
Rat_lady7: If I had that kind of money, I would pay off all my family's debt and loans, get a new vehicle (I seriously need one that's reliable!), and save the rest for travel and future plans.
Serris: Yes, I'm still in the game.
Nick22: No, I have not seen the new Scooby Doo series. I hardly watch TV anyway ;).
-
Did anybody try to yank the tail of your black cat costume this Halloween? :P:
-
Just one person this time :lol.
-
I don't believe I ever asked you this question:
What's your LEAST favorite color?
-
My least favorite would have to be pink, espeically hot pink :x.
-
Funny CT because thats my favorite color pink that is..
-
CT:
I seem to recall you having a parrot named Howard, is that right or is it someone else that I've confused them with?
If it is right, then I hope you don't mind me asking you how you got Howard, I've been meaning to ask you?
Thank you.:)
-
Yup, I have a parrot named Howard :smile. He's a Congo African Grey, and he just turned five years old on November 11th (Veterans Day) :DD.
To answer your question, it was originally my sister who got him. She was working at the pet shop he was living in at the time, and the two bonded. After she graduated high school, she moved in with a couple of roommates. She's a party animal and loves to go out a lot and so do her friends, and she just could not find the time to take care of him, so I took him in. African Greys need a lot of socialization and maintenance (cage cleaning, nail filing, etc.) in order to be healthy and happy, and since I'm not much of a party animal, he gets much more attention from me ;). Now that she's had a baby and has had to settle down a bit, I offered for her to take Howard back in if she wants, but now she says she has no room for him and, worse, act like he never meant anything to her. That makes me sad when people treat animals like material goods :cry. Oh well, he's much happier around me, and that's what matters :).
-
What do you find most interesting about your home state of Virginia?
-
Question inspired by this (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=5052&view=findpost&p=9215837) post:
Have you ever gone skydiving?
-
Mirumoto_Kenjiro: One of the most interesting things about Virginia is that there is something different to see or do throughout the state. In my corner of the state is America's largest naval base, Williamsburg, and Jamestown. The capitol, Richmond, has many unique museums, including one of a Faberge egg collection. In most parts of the state you're not too far from Washington D.C. and its many museums and monuments, including the Smithsonian Institute. The western part of the state is more rural and has the feel of an entirely different state, since it is mountainous. For outdoor enthusiasts who are looking for some good hiking or just to see the fall colors, this part of the state is really nice. All in all, there is something for everyone to see :yes.
Pangaea: I have only gone skydiving once. I went around my twenty-first birthday. I had been debating trying it for a couple of years by that point, and then my cousin and her fiance came to visit. She really wanted to go, and her fiance wanted to break his fear of heights for good, so we went. Her fiance has not been afraid of heights ever since :lol. I really want to go again. I like adrenaline rushes, and so far that's the biggest one I've ever had :wow. Bigger than being bluff-charged by a bear :lol.
-
Where in VA are you?
-
My location is listed under my member profile ;). It's roughly an hour south of Williamsburg.
-
Have you ever been snorkeling or scuba diving? (I think you might have mentioned it once, but I can't remember.)
-
I've been snorkeling a couple of times :yes. One of my favorite times was when I graduated high school and we went on a cruise to celebrate. I got to snorkel among stingrays and even pet them :D. They were habituated due to being fed by tourists, so they were quite tame :p. I also got to snorkel through coral reef and hold a sea urchin :DD.
As for scuba diving, I have never gone, mostly due to my fear of deep, dark water. Not only that, but when I was younger I saw too many movies/TV shows in which someone died from a scuba diving freak mishap, and I haven't been able to break my fear of that yet. I would like to, since I've always wanted to visit the Great Barrier Reef :).
-
Hi Anna,
I just read that you too are playing the harmonica (an instrument which I too discovered for myself a few years ago and which I really like among other for it being so handy and easy to carry along wherever you go). What kind of harmonica(s) are you playing? Chromatic, Diatonic, Tremolo, or an entirely different type?
-
The kind of harmonica I play is a diatonic harmonica :yes. The brand is Bluesband Hohner International by Hohner.
-
Same here about everything you said ;)
-
MERRYCHRISTMAS!!!
-
Thanks! Hope yours was merry, too :).
-
Here's a bit of a random one: what kind of cookies did you bake as Christmas gifts (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=7053&view=findpost&p=9218040)? :P:
-
Oatmeal cookies, Russian teacakes, sugar cookies, and chocolate Rice Krispie treats ;).
I use a lot of different ingredients in my oatmeal cookies. I include:
*Oatmeal :p
*Chocolate chips
*White chocolate chips
*Walnuts
*Flax seeds
*Pecans
*Raisins
*Dried cranberries
*Granola
I tend to call 'em "Calorie Busters", even though they contain a lot of healthy ingredients :lol.
-
Wow. :! About how many do you think you made?
-
Probably somewhere between one hundred and one hundred and fifty, just the oatmeal cookies alone :p.
All of the different cookies combined, probably around three hundred.
-
Ho-ly buckets… :wow
Apologies for the continuing cookie questions, but how long did it take to make them all? You didn't do it all in one day, did you?
-
I sure did, and it only took a few hours :smile.
-
:wow Just :wow.
How did you do it? Did you have a lot of ovens (or one really big oven), a lot of cookie trays, a lot of assistants, or some combination of the above? Or are you just really efficient at making cookies?
-
A little bit of most of that list :lol. My oven is somewhat big (it has two racks), I have two cookie sheets, and I'm just really efficient at making cookies :DD.
-
As long as we're on the subject of baking… :p
What are your favorite things to cook? :)
-
Would you rather that the final four chapters of Far Away Home be posted all at once in a 'marathon' format, or that I continue to post them one at a time as I finish them?
-
Pangaea: Too many foods to count :lol. To narrow it down, I like cooking Cajun food, Mexican food, Italian food, anything with seafood, many veggie dishes, and baked sweets of course :DD.
Caustizer: I think it would be easier to keep up with the story as one chapter is posted at a time. I get the feeling cliffhangers make readers come back for more, so spacing the time between the chapters seems better than posting all of them at once :yes.
-

Did the little piggy cry "weeweewee" all the way home?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F_G2zp-opg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F_G2zp-opg)
-
Nah, Geico won't cut me enough slack to sign on with them :p.
As for the little piggy going wee wee wee, that was hilarious :lol. I'm glad they changed the commercial though, 'cuz Howard was getting really good (and obnoxious :p) with the "Wee! Wee! Wee!" :spit :spit.
-
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but what is it that you like best overall of the LBT universe? Such as characters, plots, songs etc...
When cooking do you cook by using a recipe book or do you base on memory? Or is it a little of both?
-
I know we haven't spoken for awhile, so I wanted to ask you,
How are you and your pets doing? :)
-
Saft: For the question regarding the LBT universe, I don't think there's any part I like about it more than others. In fact, I'm not sure how I ever got into it. All I know was I had just learned about dinosaurs in the second grade around when LBT II came out and became obsessed (I've loved dinosaurs since :lol), and when I saw LBT II and was introduced to our beloved group of dinosaurs, I was officially won over by the series :DD. I consider bad animation moments and OOC moments to be outside the LBT universe, so put that aside and I have no dislikes about the LBT universe :angel.
As for cooking, I use my memory most of the time and a cook book whenever I'm looking for something different, so a little bit of both is the best answer for me :).
Rat_lady7: We're all doing fine, thanks :yes. The pets continue to be spoiled as always :p.
-
This idea just popped into my head while I was just out shoveling snow. :idea I thought you'd be interested in it: ;)
What do you think Cera's reaction would be if she ate a chili pepper? :lol (Assuming that capsaicin, the compound that makes chilies taste hot, affected dinosaurs in the same way it affects mammals.)
-
Probably the same way I reacted to wasabi sauce
Cera: "Oh, gimme that! You guys are a bunch of sissies! This is a job for a real...ugh...ahhhhh! Too hot! Get me water fast!"
Wasabi sauce is the one spicy item thus far that has me beat. My family members each tried a pea-size amount and flipped out, so I said what I just had Cera say and took a whole tablespoonful of wasabi sauce :crazy. That took a few minutes to recover from :p.

Who are your greatest inspirational idols?
-
Hi, how are things at home and how are your animals?
-
Mirumoto_Kenjiro: I don't have too many famous inspirational idols, but here are the ones I have and the reason(s) why:
*Amy Lee (Evanescence), for her vocal talent along with her songwriting. Her songs remind me of poetry combined from my two favorite poets, listed next. Also, she's a female rock star, and I wish we had more of them around.
*Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe, for their poetry style. Lots of dark themes, which is what I'm into.
*Stephen King, for becoming a true master of horror. I so wish I could write like him.
*Susan B. Anthony, for standing up for womens' rights when no one else would. I am by all means not a feminist, as I believe sexism toward EITHER gender is entirely wrong. However, I do respect her for paving the way so women like myself today have all the freedoms we do have.
The following person is not famous, but has still impacted me on a deep level:
*This patient I once took care of (name will remain undisclosed for confidentiality reasons). He had some slowly progressive form of ALS aka Lou Gehrig's Disease all his life, was blind and deaf, and had severe motor problems. Yet, he earned six degrees, made a career out of fighting life insurance fraud, traveled the world on his own, and lived his life the way a healthy individual would. Being disabled myself, he taught me that I don't have it bad at all, that the only person who can stop me from doing what I want to do in life is myself, and that I can do anything I set my mind to. I took care of him for four years, and he became more like a friend than a patient, and I was there with him when he passed away. He was truly an inspirational individual I was blessed to know.
Other than that, a couple of relatives come to mind. That's about it for now :).
Rat_lady7: My pets are doing good, spoiled as always :lol. Things are mostly okay with me, aside from some drama that a relative has been causing. For some odd reason, they seem to love drama, and it seems like everywhere they go trouble follows :bang. Aside from that, though, everything else is pretty good :).
-
What are Howard's favorite things to imitate? :lol
-
Quite a few things, actually :lol. He likes to imitate the following:
*The front door opening, closing, and locking.
*Telephone
*Cell phone message alert sounds (usually beeps), and cell phone low battery sounds.
*Microwave
*Bodily functions, usually related to gas (not mine, BTW :p). There's one particular relative he likes to imitate these sounds from :lol.
*My dog Maxwell howling. When he gets separation anxiety, he howls.
*The squealing pig on the Geico commercial, though he doesn't do it as much as he used to.
*Curly Howard's "N'yuk 'n'yuk n'yuk" followed by "woo woo woo" :lol. Sometimes I'll say "N'yuk n'yuk n'yuk!" and then he will go "Woo woo woo!".
*Phone conversations
Other things he likes to do:
*Yell at the dogs if they start barking or howling. He usually yells, "Hey, hey, hey! Stop it! Stop it! Maxwell! Pepper! Stop it! Hey, shut up!"
*When I get home from work at night (I usually work nights) around 1 AM, he whistles when I come in the door and then asks me, "Are we ready to go night-night?"
*He also likes to tell me to stop it if I get in a bad mood and start ranting around him, but if I tell him to stop it, he pauses and then says, "Alright."
*Anytime I leave the room, he asks, "Where's Anna?"
*A relative thought it would be funny to teach him the Batman theme, so now he likes to sing, "Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Baaatman! Baaatman! Baaatman!" :lol
*His favorite song so far is the disco song "Get Down Tonight". He skips over the "Make a little love" part, so all he sings is "Do a little daaance! Get dowwwwn! Get dowwwwn!"
That's all I can think of for now. He's an entertaining fethered pal to have around :lol.

Can you name all of the shows you watched as a little child?
-
I hope this doesn't sound like I'm putting you on the spot or anything, because I'm honestly very curious about your thoughts regarding this comment:
*Susan B. Anthony, for standing up for womens' rights when no one else would. I am by all means not a feminist, as I believe sexism toward EITHER gender is entirely wrong. However, I do respect her for paving the way so women like myself today have all the freedoms we do have.
What in your mind do you believe being a feminist entails? Or rather what do you believe it means to be a feminist?
-
Did my last question make you uncomfortable? I ask because you haven't responded to this thread for a bit.
-
Pokeplayer: Here they are: Spongebob Squarepants, Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold!, Angry Beavers, Batman Beyond, Goof Troop, Doug, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, Daria, CatDog, Wienerville, Sonic the Hedgehog, original TMNT, Tinytoon Adventures, Garfield, Garfield and Friends, The Simpsons, Captain Planet, Ahhh! Real Monsters!, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and Ren and Stimpy.
Rat_lady7:
No, not at all! I've been busy (and dealing with some family drama :rolleyes), and consequently I don't feel I've been keeping up with posting as much as I'd like to :bang. To answer your question, I hear a lot about feminists discriminating males and supporting abortion, neither of which I believe in. I don't think sexism against either gender is ever right or fair. I've had someone refer to me as a feminist before, and upon researching what it means to be a feminist, I quickly shot their suspicion down. I do support women's rights (boy would I be a major hypocrite if I didn't :rolleyes), and I also support unborn children's rights and believe there should be zero sexism practced against either gender. I'm not sure if this made sense. There probably are different types of feminists out there, but I really hate being stereotyped for anything :confused.
-
^ I think that one can and must differenciate between feminism as in demanding equal rights, equal opportunity, equal pay, and equal treatment for women and a kind of hatred about males. As for the first definition I would describe myself as a feminist as well and even though many of the things that ought to be self-evident (e.g. right to vote) have by now been achieved in most countries of the western world (though in parts of Switzerland this is less than 20 years ago!) unequality in pay and opportunity (you will find very, very few women in leading positions in economy for example) persist and there is nothing irrational about working to change this but it should be more of a matter of course. I stand for this in spite of the fact that it is currently lessening my own employment chances because (due to the underrepresentation of women in teaching positions at German universities) most universities here officially declare that they will decide in favor of female applicants in case of two candidates of equal qualification.
However there is of course also the brand of feminism which is not primarily about equal rights for women but more about hatred against males ending up with situations where males would always be wrong (e.g. if the male holds open the door for a woman as an act of politeness he will be labeled as "old fashioned" and "dominant" while if the man then doesn't hold the door open he'll be labeled "disregardful" and "egocentric"). Some of the hatred also comes from the (true) observation that males have been responsible for most of histories bloodshed which is then projected on all males.
In Germany there is a famous feminist, Alice Schwartzer whose earlier works I highly respect. Due to her initiative the German language comes now with seperate words for females working as engineers, managers, directors etc. who had so far been described by the maskulin word for it. I know this may be difficult to understand seeing that the English language knows few such differentiations of gender, but I think in German it was quite a sensible step. However Alice Schwartzer has by now turned really to an extreme that I can only despise. When a mentally disturbed woman in the US castrated her husband she praised this as an act of liberation and the like.
It is important to differentiate between feminism (which I would call the adequate kind described above) and radical feminism (the extremist kind). There are few ideas and ideals that cannot be corrupted by being radicalised.

Sort of a random question: :P: as I recall, you’ve referred to yourself in the past as a “screwball”. How would you define a “screwball”, and what would you consider to be the diffferenceóif anyóbetween a “screwball” and a “spazz”? :p
-
To me, a "screwball" comes with a random and goofy sense of humor, and a "spazz" is a really hyper version of a screwball. Kinda like a screwball that drank a whole six-pack of Red Bull :p. I don't get hyper very often, so I feel I classify as more of a screwball than a spazz :lol. Whether or not my post made any sense, I have no idea :lol.
-
Made perfect sense to me. :p
How are your pets doing? :)
-
They're all doing good, thanks :smile. Howard continues to believe he's the funniest thing around :lol.
-
How are you doing?
I just hope that I have not lost your interest in TWV? Despite the fact that my next chapter is ~50% finished.
-
I'm very well, thanks :). I'm still very interested in seeing what happens next in TWV :yes.
-
Did anyone play any April Fool's pranks on you this year? And did you pull any April Fool's pranks on anyone? :p
-
Only one :p. My supervisor made up a bogus assignment sheet for the employees, and my task for eight hours was to stay in the walk-in freezer. I twisted the joke by pretending to take it seriously. Whenever someone in charge would ask me for a favor, I would say "Sorry, I've gotta go back to the freezer." in such a serious manner that they thought I had taken the prank seriously :lol. So, I guess that counts as an April Fools' prank I pulled :angel.
-
Can you name any particularly crazy and/or hilarious experiences you've had involving your pets? :p
-
I have so many pet stories that I'd probably take all night describing each one :lol. Everything from stealing apple pies and countertop surfing to overdoses of catnip to random bird talk and even reactions to fireworks :lol.
-
Aw, please, can't you just tell a couple of them? :smile The apple pie and catnip ones sound interesting to me. :lol
-
Oh, alright :p.
The apple pie one happened when my older dog Max was still a puppy. Well, two years old, but still a pup :smile. We were camping, and my mother decided to make an apple pie to bring with us. We had a pop-up camper at the time (I've always preferred tent-camping personally ;)), and so we left our two dogs (we had an older Cocker at the time) in the camper while we went down to the lake. When we got back, Max had apple pie allover his face and in the hair of his floppy ears while pretending he had done nothing wrong. The other dog, meanwhile, was hiding in one of the beds out of fear of being blamed for what Max did :lol. Neeless to say, he had devoured the entire apple pie in the course of ten minutes :wow.
As for the catnip story, we used to have two cats before they ran away on us :cry. One of them did not like catnip , but the other one went nuts whenever he got catnip. One evening, my sister and I gave him twice the amount of catnip we normally gave him (I don't remember why we did that :rolleyes). Anyhoo, not long afterwards, he went ballistic :lol! He kept dashing through the house. He stopped at random times to sit down and lick himself before he would suddenly look around in a psychotic fashion and then take off again :spit. This behavior of his probably lasted at least two hours nonstop :p.

Huh. Sounds a lot like what our cat, Sasquatch, does sometimes. Except he acts like that without exposure to catnip! :lol
Do you have a good story or two involving Howard? :)
-
He's still the same ol' silly bird he usually is :lol. Lately he's been saying "Hey! What's goin' on?" :p.
Here's a funny one: Last week, I was making some breakfast for myself when my mother came in. I had my back turned for just a few moments, and before I knew it, she had put REAL butter on my food :slap. I ended up reminding her again about why I can't have dairy products and that I'm not a baby, and as soon as I went quiet, Howard yelled, "BUTTTTTERRRR!" :lol. He hasn't said it since though.
Another thing he does make chicken sounds. This started a few years ago, when my sister called out a relative as being a chicken. She was standing next to Howard when she said, "Baaaaawk! Bawk! Bawk! Bawk! Baaaaawk!" She only said it once, but he's been doing it ever since :lol.
He also has a bell in his cage he rings when he's hungry :p.
-
Oh, wow, the chicken story is hilarious! :lol
Has Howard ever bitten you?
-
Indeed he has :p. He used to bite me whenever I tried to hold him when he belonged to my sister, and on a couple of occasions even broke my skin. He rarely bites me now, and when he does it's caused by him getting spooked while I'm holding him :p.

My family and I plan to go camping at the Grand Canyon this July. I know that you've been there before and are a very experienced camper; do you have any advice (esp. on safety precautions) or other information that you think would be useful for us to know?
-
There are quite a few safety precautions to list. The Grand Canyon has its dangers and can be treacherous to explore, but at the same time it is so fascinating and breathtaking. I know you'll have a good time out there :yes. That said, here's what I have to say about safety precautions:
*Always remain at least 300 feet or greater away from wildlife if possible. Not only is it a national park law, but it is also for the safety of the animals and the visitors. You'll be amazed at how many visitors literally walk right up to the wildlife and stand less thn five feet away :slap! Even some with professional photography cameras :rolleyes. It is true that sometimes wildlife show up out of nowhere and you're definitely less than 300 feet away from them, such as while coming around a blind curve on a trail. To try to prevent this, be sure to make a reasonable amount of noise. Since you'll be with your family, simply conversing while hiking should do it.
*July is very hot in the Grand Canyon. If y'all plan on hiking down into the canyon, temperatures can reach or even exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit, while up on the rim can reach the 90s at least. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are the top killers of Grand Canyon visitors, so be sure to have plenty of fluids. Not only water, but also fluids with electrolytes like Gatorade or Smartwater. I also like mixing Simply Limeade with salt (an at-home Gatorade recipe I learned about while in the Yellowstone area ;)). Salty snacks and foods high in potassium like bananas are good food sources of electrolytes. Also be sure to bring correct footwear for hiking, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This is a desert climate, after all :yes.
*Speaking of deserts, no desert climate can be complete without a couple of venomous critters. Campers in particular at the Grand Canyon tend to frequently encounter rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. These guys become even more active at night. Since scorpions and tarantulas can crawl up vertical surfaces, a good idea would be to bring a blacklight. If you're tent camping, it's a good idea to use the blacklight to check for scorpions and tarantulas that could be on the outside of the tent before entering and exiting, and to also check your sleeping bags before crawling in them. Also, never leave the door to your tent or RV open unattended, always check your shoes before putting them on, and should you ever have to set your bag down to take a break while hiking, be sure to check it before putting it back on. If it was opened while on the ground, be sure to check the inside too. Those venomous critters I've mentioned can be pretty sneaky :p.
*Always read and follow any signs that can be found at trailheads and along trails. As with any national park, upon arrival, you'll receive a park newsletter. Be sure to read this information. It not only lists safety precautions and regulations, but also park updates, ideas for activities, ranger-led programs, trail closures or openings, and information on park amenities and service locations (visitor centers, medical clinic, food service, etc.)
*If any of y'all are acrophobic or get dizzy spells from heights, then it is best to not stand on or sit on a cliff edge. If this is not the case, always pay attention to where you step. A fall into the Grand Canyon sounds like a really painful way to go for us, but more like a dinner bell for the California Condors :x. In other words, use your common sense at all times ;).
*For additional information, be sure to check out www.nps.gov. Click on the state of Arizona, and then click on Grand Canyon National park.
*If Sasquatch is coming, I'm sorry to say he can't come on any park trails. Not only is it for the health and safety of pets and humans, but also wildlife, which can easily pick up pet ailments such as the parvovirus. Besies, he would probably be disappointed to know the Grand Canyon has cats way bigger and more ferocious than him (Mountain lions) :lol.
*Lastly, as scary as it may sound, do not let all I've mentioned scare you or family members out of having a good time. As long as everyone is well-informed and uses common sense (i.e. no Three Stooges reenactments along the cliff edges :lol), it should be very fun and memorable for everyone.
I hope this helps. If I can provide any additional information or further elaborate on anything mentioned here, don't hesitate to ask ;).
-
Thank you very much, Anna. All that information is extremely helpful. :yes

I'm starting to think that maybe we should stay on the rim. Thanks for the warnings.

That's very good to know. I wonder if I should bring a ziplock bag or something to put my shoes in when I take them off; with my absentmindedness, I'm not sure I trust myself to remember to check every time. <_<

I'm sure we'll be leaving Sasquatch at home (maybe in the kennel again), so that won't be a problem.

It helps very much. :) Can I trouble you to tell me about your own experiences visiting the Grand Canyon and what it was like?
-
It was March when I was there, and the weather remained in the upper fifties all week. While I love tent camping, my mother will not do that for an entire week :p, so we stayed in one of the lodges instead. Much of our time out there was spent hiking along the rim trails. I did hike down into the Grand Canyon via the Bright Angel trail, which is 6.2 miles one way, by myself. My mother is severely acrophobic, and the trail is only probably three feet wide and is carved into the cliffside for most of the way down. It took me about six hours to hike down and back up, and this includes stopping for about an hour at the bottom an stopping many times in between to rest and/or take pictures. Since I have a tendency to make sure others who are with me also have a good time, I did things my mother could also safely do, such as horseback riding and taking a bus tour of the rim. There were also numerous ranger-led programs we attended, including a moonlight hike along part of the rim. There was a ranger talk on safety I would recommend attending, if it is still held there. That's how I learned a few things I mentioned in my previous post :yes. We also took a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. My mother didn't realize it would freak her out :rolleyes, but due to balancing the weight out (there were three other passengers), I got to sit up front with the pilot and take lots of pictures, so things evened out ;). I'm glad one of us isn't acrophobic. Otherwise, so many memories wouldn't have been caught on camera :).
All in all, I had a really good time out there. If and when I ever end up back out there (or even have a job there :DD), I definitely plan on hiking even more into the canyon :yes.
-
Wow.
What kinds of wildlife did you get to see at the canyon? :)
-
Let's see, I saw the following:
*Elk
*Ravens
*California Condors
*A mountain sheep (in the distance while taking pictures of the canyon)
*Mule deer
*Squirrels
-
Which was the most interesting to you?
-
I'd have to say the California condor, as I had never heard of them before going out there :).
-
How are things going with you and your pup(s)?
-
Really good so far :yes. We adopted a rescue just over two weeks ago. She's also a Cocker and is the same age as my other other surviving pup, and she spent all her life in a cage on a puppy mill being used to make babies :cry. She's still very timid, but she's getting used to her new environment :). My other pup has been protective of her since we brought her home, and he lets her follow him around. Howard is doing good too, and continues to be a brat :lol.
-
Aw. ^^ That's nice of your other pup to be so nice to her. And I'm glad Howard's doing good.
Have you named her yet and what color is she? :D
-
She is buff with some lighter blonde on top of her head, and her name is Daisy :smile. I'll have to post pictures on here when I get them. I've been meaning to take pictures of both pups but I've been really busy as usual :rolleyes.
-
What's your favorite era of horror films?
-
Definitely the late 80's through the early 2000s. Very few decent horror films have been released since besides the "Saw" and "Final Destination" series. I also like Hitchcock's material :yes.
-
For me, it's the black-&-white horror films, and the few in color include Hitchcock. The stuff today seems more with excessive gore rather than a good story, and then there's all the sequels...
-
Hey! Have you heard about the new Three Stooges movie? If so, do you think you are going to see it?
-
Yeah, someone told me in class today, and I think I heard about it before that. But I was never a fan of the show, so I'm not gonna see it.
-
Yeah I've heard about it, but I'm on the fence about the film. The original Three Stooges are classic and untouchable in my opinion, and when I heard they casted Snooki in the film, that ruined it for me :rolleyes. So, to answer your question, I'm not sure if I'll see it yet :p.
-
To anyone who replies first, what do you think was the worst injury any of our main cast has suffered in the LBT films? (I also have a poll on this)
-

Uh, maybe I should explain how things work here in the "Ask Me" section. You see, this subforum is where you can ask questions to a particular member to learn more about them. This topic in particular was created by Cancerian Tiger, therefore, all questions you ask in this specific topic are meant for only her to answer and no one else. If you want to ask a question to someone else, you'll need to say it in that person's "Ask Me" topic. (but please try to refrain for posting in everyone's "Ask Me" topic in one day, because that's just annoying. <_< ) You could also create your own "Ask Me" topic if you want people to ask you questions about yourself.
By the way, CT, based on one of the trailers I saw for that Three Stooges movie, it seems to me that what concerns you will be little more than a cameo appearance. Do you want me to give you a link to that trailer?
-
Sure :).
And Bruton, what Chronicler said is correct. Besides, I think I've been "vocal" enough in the LBT injuries topic you created.
-
Here's where I saw the trailers for the Three Stooges movie (two of them in a playlist):
http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/the-three-st...r-28683603.html (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/the-three-stooges-2012/trailers/the-three-stooges-online-trailer-28683603.html)
What do you think?
-
After seeing these trailers, it looks like it may be worth watching after all :yes. Still, nothing can beat the original Three Stooges ;).
-
I'm too lazy to read through 20 pages of Q&A's to see if this question has been asked before, so I apologize if this is a repeat question from someone else:
What kind of drawing do you like to do?
-
What kinds of wildlife did you see in all the national parks you visited this summer? :)
-
Not as much wildlife as I would've liked to have seen, but there were sightings nonetheless :). The following are what I saw:
Isle Royale National Park: A red fox, snowshoe hare, and lots of loons :lol.
Glacier National Park: A few mountain goats (I could not catch them with my camera), and I narrowly missed seeing a grizzly bear.
Crater Lake National Park: There was a red-tailed hawk circling over the lake.
Yosemite National Park: A few mule deer, ground squirrels, a red-tailed hawk, and Stellar blue jays. I could hear an American bald eagle calling, but I could not locate it. I did not see one black bear during my stay, but I was careful about putting everything scented in my campite's bearbox. Yosemite is notorious for black bears destroying people's vehicles to get to food :rolleyes. Greater efforts have been made in recent years to reduce this behavior, and so far it seems to be working :yes.
I've seen a lot of wildlife since moving out to Death Valley National Park. I've seen coyotes, sun spiders aka camel spiders, tarantulas, geckos, horned lizards, a couple different species of hawks, a turkey vulture, swifts (larger versions of swallows), kangaroo rats, skinks, stinkbugs, roadrunners and their cuckoo bird cousins, a Giant Hairy Desert scorpion, and desert snails (they live in hot springs). I had a Great Horned Owl nearly land on me one night before it recognized me as human and took off :lol. The other night, while I was watching the rare blue moon, I believe three groups of bats all flew at once right over me :wow. They were small and black.
Outside of the national parks, I saw an American bald eagle while driving through northern Michigan/Minnesota, and I saw a mountain lion walking in a ditch in Montana at night. It was walking toward my headlights as I was driving, and it looked like it was stalking prey. That's the first time I ever saw a mountain lion :wow. Also, in Montana, I saw thunderbirds at times.
-
^ Whoa! :wow I would have loved to have seen a lot of those things, especially in Death Valley.
Thunderbirds? You don't mean the giant, storm-causing birds of Native American legend?
-
The real thunderbirds are quite small and similar in appearance to magpies, but their coloration is different. They only have white on their wings, and the white looks like a lightning bolt from first glance.
I can now add to my previous post that I've seen a herd of wild horses, a great blue heron (yes, in the desert and nowhere near water), and a goldish-colored garter snake. Then, tonight, I watched a couple of bats flying right over me and catching insects. The bats even tried to land on me a couple of times. It was really cool, seeing them so close.

Oh. :oops Do you know what their common or alternative name is? I've never heard the name "thunderbird" used for any scientifically recognized living bird species, so I'm guessing it's a nickname or a regionally used name. (In the field of cryptozoology, giant unidentified birds that people allegedly sight on occasion are commonly referred to as "thunderbirds", but if those were the kinds of birds you saw, I wouldn't expect you to mention them so casually. :p)

-
Bump. :p Sorry for the double question.
Knowing that you camp out a lot, have you ever tried a recipe called the "hobo dinner"?
-
As we are both Cera fans.. Do you like my human version of her?
-
If you would have to choose one place for vacations... would you go to the desert or would you like to try some snowy place?
-
Pangaea- By a strange surprise, I have not tried the hobo dinner yet. I have most certainly heard of it, though :lol.
Dalekdino- Yes, I really like your human version of Cera. She's really cute in a human kid-like way :DD.
Midnight-I have lived in the desert for sometime now, but I always enjoy vacationing in other desert locations. I'm not a fan of extremely cold weather, but I have family in the north and therefore sometimes only get to visit there when it's snowy :lol. I guess you can say I am not too particular of where I vacation. I love to travel and see new things :yes.
-
Dalekdino- Yes, I really like your human version of Cera. She's really cute in a human kid-like way :DD.
Oh good to know. Yes or a cute tomboy way as I like to say.
Do you like any of my other humanized character designs?
-
What do you are think of my OC Bambo as he's a close friend of Cera if you have seen that topic that is...
-
I thought I had commented on your fanart, but I guess I thought wrong .
I'm not used to seeing the human Gang drawn in anime style, but I really like the way you captured them. And Bambo is really cute, too :DD. I like how he's been friends with Cera since her hatching :).
-

I don't remember any comments from you.... Well anime is the only style I can draw humans in. Glad to know you like Bambo too, I have plenty more stuff with him in the pipeline.
-
Which of my Cera and Bambo drawings do you like most?
-
