Title: Return of the Lone Dinosaur
Post by: Threehorn on May 09, 2007, 07:12:27 PM
I just watched it today and found it quite alright with Doc appearing again and it seem to fit his dislike to sharpteeth when he meets Chomper. Talk about Chomper being very afaird of a longneck such as Doc and it seems that Doc isn't a loner as we all thought he was. He has a lady friend longneck and surprised me to hear and over all with what I saw.

It was great to watch as always and like to see what up next. the two songs on it is Lone Dinosaur Reprise and Feeling Happy Littlefoot Style with a little Doc and the gang singing in it as well.

A wife and a kid? Isn't that sort of strange for someone as old as Doc? I didn't know the episodes were on TV. What channel?

A child?! I think that he's more than just a friend to that lady...

Wait... when you say "a little Doc" you mean a little bit of singing, not a child who looks like him...

On the ending song "I Feel so Happy" Littlefoot sounded almost exactly like Chomper.  I ran a voice comparison test and found that there is an 86% chance that these are the same voices.  Do you believe what Doc said was true when he said "I don't know why you bother being friends with a sharptooth.  You are just going to have to fight him some day"?

do not know but it seems that he said something in the episode about not having a child and wanted to show his lady friend, Littlefoot and his grandparents. As for the singing with CHomper and Littlefoot, I don't think they're the same voice, maybe a little simliar in pitch but not the same person.

Well...it seems like Doc is still the same Doc - no massive character change from before. That's good.

Forgive me if I sound a bit stupid asking this, but is there really a way to do a voice comparison test...besides listening to their voices?

Yes there is.  You shouldn't feel stupid if you don't know this.  There is a very expensive program out there I don't remember the name but I think it is called vomtech synthesizer or something very similat to that.  Anyway, the cheap way to run a voice comparison test is to simply look at the wavelenth and modualtion of the sound wave by disassembling the voice recording program that comes with windows xp (highly illegal!) and joining it together in a singular fasion so it will display things such as the sound wavelenth, frequency and modulation.  I will not disclose how to do this but I can tell you that it is very difficult to do and cannot be transferred to another computer without severe damage to the program.  I don't know why exactly but I assume it's because I cannot zip the program files with any archiving program availabe.  I assume this is because microsoft uses a encoding symbol that is unreadable to programs such as winzip and winrar.  Anyway, the FBI also uses a voice comparison program called Syntech Denotitizer and it is by far the best.  Unfortunately, it is unavialable to the general public.  I might be able to acquire it but it would be highly illegal and it's not worth it.  I guess I will stick to the program I reassembled to make my tests.  I would rather be dead than in jail.

Heheheh, thanks. I thought I was just going to get a response saying, "Of course you listen to their voices, silly." or something. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

They did a whole 180? spin to Doc's personality. The voice and his character have nothing to do with Doc from LBT 6. Also, the story of the lone dinosaur is poorly re-told.

Not so good, in my opinion. They pretty much ruined Doc's character. In LBT6 he told he was already too old to change his way of living, and what do have we here? He suddenly has a love story and wants to start a family. Why such a change of personality? IMHO, all these love stories are really getting annoying. They put them everywhere, in nearly every cartoon or film. Even characters who are old like Doc are not safe from that.

I know.  Can't they make even one show without some sort of love thing?

Ack, that isn't good at all! I haven't seen that episode yet. I might just because Doc's in it, no matter how much they apparently ruined his character. I like the TV series overall - anyway, not every episode can be as great as The Meadow of Jumping Waters.

Doc made a disturbing entrance... :huh: Why they let him fall in love?  That is so not right if he's suppose to be the Lone Dinosaur.

What really gets on my nerves is when Littlefoot tels the story from 6, I really hate the flashback they show. Would it really hurt that much to use footage of the real original thing from 6?  <_<

I think it would hurt, yes. The art style of the sixth movie and that of the television episodes differ greatly in terms of quality. It would be like writing a general story, then suddenly, on page seven, it gets super detailed then goes back to general. If you look at the movie and episodes, you'll see that they wouldn't blend together in a single showing. Also, if viewers saw the better quality of the movies, it could possibly cause a sense of indignation at why the episodes were not done the same way. When they are seperate, it is not so often thought about, but thrust movie and episode together at once, and it would be so obvious that it would make the episode quality really be looked down upon. It would be like putting a three-layer chocolate cake cooked by a famous chef and a little gas station cake on the same table and asking you to look at both. They just wouldn't go together.

OK, but it just felt like they were disregarding footage that already existed, and instead wasting money on new stuff.

Just found out they did a similar thing with the Tarzan tv series...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiL04uZXxWQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiL04uZXxWQ)

A flashback of a scene from the original film starts at about 3:21 but you can clearly tell it's not footage from the actual film...

So I guess they have the excuse here that "it's been done before". Only problem is the sky wasn't blue during the scene...to quote Coldplay, "it was all...yellow"...

But it was blue afterwards  :huh:

Given the difference in animation quality between feature length and series, it would have looked seriously out of place if they suddenly jump cut to a much cleaner and higher quality piece of work. Such as which would undermine and demonstrate a lack of consistency between the two. Feature length animated pieces are always higher quality than their TV series counterparts. Not surprising seeing as the budget to make feature length quality TV series would be very costly and would take a darn sight longer to produce. Considering how long it take an animated movie to be made and release, could you imagine how long it would take to a 15-20+ episode series to be produced? It's nothing new really.

First to say the introduction with some grown-ups talking 'bout Doc is really well done. It makes the viewer interested. Spike wins the game like he always does( they made teams though :wow ). Then Cera appears, she's like omg Doc is back :lol
Always pleased to see the Gang playing  game :yes

Well, then they made this flashback... though I agree with TFS I'd rather liked the scenes from LBT 6 than this redo of it...

I really like the fact that Chomper is scared of Doc. Thanks to Cera like always though.
He murmured in his sleep the whole time: "Don't worry it'll be okay..." which shows he's pretty scared, indeed.

Nice sleepstory Chomper has. Doc's red and spiked  :DD. Of course Chomper immediately runs to Ruby... She calmed him down. "Unless you're asleep!" nice quote!

Next morning: Ducky falls on her back while pulling on a leaf, how cute she is... also funny: "He was trying to crush YOU!"
Chomper has to hide, eh? I consider this a funny idea.

Lone Dinosaur Reprise: meh! Don't like it!

Then Littlefoot meets Doc: The convo they have is good. So Doc has a lady-friend? Nice! Littlefoot's objections are very understandible: Doc + lad-friend means he isn't the/a lone dinosaur anymore. So they're in search for Dara or whatever this Longneck is called...

So LF and Doc are heading into Chomper's direction... LF's attempts to lead Doc away from him aren't very good, but at least he tries it. Ruby has a good point btw... Fortunately Cera knows another hide: the place where Toppsy pushed a rock onto the Tinysaurusses' home... since the rocks are still there they hide there but... uh oh...
Ruby causes a rockslide  :smile had to laugh at this point!
At least Littlefoot saves the situation for Chomper!
Next hide: Petrie's home. I wonder how they'd climb up there...
Hehe, Cera's just mentioning Doc'd never find them and then.. SURPRISE!!! Oh, poor poor Chomper... like that scene a lot, Ruby has another nice quote here, too

Some might say Doc's character has changed... but the best prove it hasn't( at least not fully) is that he strongly dislikes that Littlefoot's befriends with Chomper. Nice quotes Doc has there.
The Gang's a bit angry with Littlefoot though...
Glad Littlefoot supports the friendship between Chomper and him. So Chomper learned to speak Flattooth on his own? Interesting! The little Sharptooth even offers his help, but Doc strongly rejected it.
I consider this an interesting fact.
So Littlefoot doesn't want to help his idol anymore? Like that as well!
But hey! Let's help Dara instead of Doc :D Chomper has a great idea there!

Walking through a swamp they finally find Dara stuck in it. I doubted they'd pull her out somehow and I was right! Using that tree wouldn't work I figured.
Anyway Dora reacted the very other way than Doc when she met Chomper.
But tehe the tree breaks and Cera, Ducky, Spike, Ruby and Chomper falls into mud as well..
Luckily Doc appears and pulls everyone out using his tail.
Finally Doc learned a lesson namely that there is one friendly Sharptooth outside there: Chomper!
I really like those scenes as well

Oh, and Doc will show LF some of his tricks? Awesome!  :exactly  They have a nice talk imo.

I feel so happy is... okay... I guess....  Glad we hear Doc singing though it's not his original voiceactor :/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All in all I enjoyed that episode. The animation sure sucks, but the action is quite better than I imagined  :angel
(Is it ok that I brought this back to the first page?)
I watched this for the first time about a week ago, and was pleasantly surprised. :) I thought they did a great job of keeping Doc in-character (that is...aside from the singing at the end, which I honestly can't see the Doc from the 6th movie doing...) And, like everyone else, I was also surprised to learn that Doc's got a girlfriend. I didn't mind it, personally - actually I thought it was a nice touch. ^^ Dara seems good for Doc, haha.
I also love that Chomper is half the focus of the episode. Poor little guy was so afraid of the Lone Dinosaur finding him, and here Littlefoot takes his side over Doc's, who didn't understand the friendship between Chomper and the others.
Doc and Chomper in the same episode! I swear, all we'd need are Pterano, Rinkus, and Sierra and we'd have ourselves some kind of shindig :celebrate
Well I have to say, for being apprehensive about seeing the TV series initially, so far I've been digging it more than I thought I would.
This was another episode title that got me intrigued right off the bat. :yes
Lone Dinosaur Reprise: meh! Don't like it!
I liked it quite a bit. More than I've enjoyed most of the other TV episode songs so far, although I was a fan of the original Lone Dinosaur song as well.
Speaking of good music, I like the western-style score at 8:09 when Doc shows up.
Doc having a "lady friend" seemed a bit strange at first, but I got a kick out of it all the same. It was unexpected for a character like Doc, but that might've been precisely why I enjoyed it.
I laughed when Ruby knocking one tiny pebble down the mountain ended up causing an entire avalanche.
Awesome Littlefoot moment when he stays loyal to Chomper and stands up to Doc, even despite having consistently idolized Doc up to that point.
:)littlefoot
So Littlefoot doesn't want to help his idol anymore? Like that as well!
But hey! Let's help Dara instead of Doc :D Chomper has a great idea there!
Lol, kind of a funny irony there.
Anyway Dora reacted the very other way than Doc when she met Chomper.
Interesting observation. I didn't really think of that before, in how it was the opposite of Doc's reaction.
The only part I didn't like was at the end when we get another lame version of "I Feel So Happy". Bah.
But all in all, this was an enjoyable episode. 6.75/10 7/10
