Title: Tips on drawing Ducky
Post by: caspyartist on May 01, 2021, 06:53:12 PM
so, I'm thinking of drawing some LBT stuff! thinking of starting with Ducky as she's one of my favourites  :duckyhappy but I heard that she's one of the more trickier characters to draw? I can kinda see why. I've tried looking through "Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials", but that looks like to be abandoned...  :petrieLOL

so if anyone that has drawn Ducky or even the rest of the gang, got any tips to share?

PS: I'm not new to drawing btw! been drawing my whole life, but actually getting into drawing (digitally) was in 2017. If you want to see my art, I've post some here (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=17002.0).

Hey, good to see that you're looking to draw some LBT art!  :chompysmile

I've thought about adding to the tips topic for a long time on how I approach drawing the characters but I've been too busy/lazy haha.

I'm away visiting family atm, but maybe when I'm back I can try and give some examples! Have you tried drawing Ducky yet by any chance? I started by directly referencing poses from the movie until I got comfortable drawing her.

Good luck!

that'd be great! thank you. I have tried drawing her a couple of months back, but I was getting nowhere with the drawing haha. I'd show it, but I must've deleted it on my iPad. It was basically her giving Petro a big ol' hug.

Ducky and Cera are in my opinion two of the hardest characters to draw. Their bodies are similar to the rest of the gang, but their faces sport all kinds of intricacies which makes them look odd if they are left out.

For Ducky in particular I'd say her nose might be the biggest obstacle. It's kinda weird and in the way, haha. One thing to note is that it should probably run parallel to her mouth. Furthermore, the lighter color of her belly also goes all the way up to her upper lip, which is a small detail I missed for the longest time.

However, I agree with Flathead that using references from the movies is a great idea. Heck, you can even try tracing her for the first time just to get a feel of things, which might make you notice stuff you wouldn't if you just used it as a reference. If you want more specific tips, feel free to share your attempts with us. It's probably better than my first Ducky drawings ;)

yes, I've heard from a few artists that whenever they draw Ducky, her whole bill is the hardest to get right. As for Cera, her body to me, looks like it'd be the hardest to draw haha.

yeah whenever I do draw a difficult character for the first time, I always trace over a screenshot or two to get the feel, so I'll definitely be doing the same with Ducky or just any of the characters till I get good enough.
