(I might be asking a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway)
Is Tippy a Male or Female?

He's a boy. Yeah I know his color seems a little female-ish, but he's really a boy.

At first I though he was female as well, but I clearly remember someone calling him "he" in the TV series.

In fact I think that the movie and the episode disagree on Tippy's gender or perhaps I am mixing up fact and it was the German language edition differing from the English original. In any case I have definitely heard him being referred to as both he or she respectively "er" and "sie". Maybe heshe was not considered important enough to determine that one

The reason is if Tippy's female, then it would be a perfect love relationship between Tippy and Spike.

In the eighth movie, Tippy's Mother says that Tippy is a he.

Now, I have seen this discussion all over YouTube, so I'm not too surprised this question would pop up soon enough on this forum. Now, I can understand the mix up here. This point of the sequels is known for putting certain female traits onto males. (ie color scheme, longer eyelashes, etc.) However, the bottom line is that Tippy's Mother said he's male.

Face it! The biological mother would know.

I've been wondering that for years. I remember when I first saw it I was saying, "Okay, Tippy's a boy, No wait! He's a girl! Oh I don't know!" Correct me if I'm wrong but, I do recall Tippy's mother saying to both Tippy and Spike, "Come on boy's, lets go home." Notice the word BOY in there. So, I've come to the conclusion that Tippy, is in fact, a boy.

I checked out the English and German versions of the episode "Forbidden Friendship". I didn't watch them whole but only checked out a few scenes so I cannot say if there are any discrepancies within either version but indeed what I did hear made her a he in the English and him a she in the German version. Does anyone recall if there was any direct statement about this in LBT 8 and if so what was said there?

In this day and age, opposite genders are hardly needed to qualify a relationship as 'perfect'.

According to Land Before Time Wiki, Tippy was voiced by a guy in the movie and a girl in the TV series, so no help there. I don't recall enough to remember what pronoun a forgettable guest star was referred to with, but I always thought it was a girl.

In the movie, the bits I've seen, Tippy's mother refers to them both as boys, and in the tv episode Littlefoot calls Tippy a he.

As for his being portrayed by a woman voice actor it's not uncommon for a woman to voice cartoon boys as well as girls.

I always knew Tippy was a boy, but in my honest opinion I think Tippy's character will always be better served as a boy rather than a girl. I don't think Spike was really looking for a love interest, but rather another Spiketail to play with. Tippy just happened to be there, so it worked out. Tippy was the brother he never had because let's face it, Ducky wasn't really going to get anywhere in that department.

A thing many forget is how young the gang are supposed to be. They would have no interest in romance for a while. They may well find such an idea icky like most kids, at least when I was a kid, found such things icky, boring, ect.

As people have pointed already Tippy is indeed a male. His mother does say 'come along boys' in the 8th film, if Tippy was a girl, she wouldn't have said that (or I hope not). However why would they have to be paired up anyway? Aside from the possible Littlefoot and Ali scenario which isn't entirely existant, the dinosaurs are young-kids/children whatever you desire to call them. Being friends with the opposite or similar gender doesn't necessarily have to make them be paired up straight away....

Tippy was voiced by Elizabeth Daly in the TV series, who is also the voice of Tommy Pickles from Rugrats

When the character is so badly done that you can't even tell whether it is male or female, you know something is terribly wrong with this picture. I think the character was totally pointless. He/she/it only had a couple minutes of screen time and contributed nothing to the overall story. Tippy was a very forgettable character.

Hate to admit it, but you're right. Tippy's another case of a character having potential, but being refused development or characterisation, like Ali. Honestly, I think the only sequel-exclusive characters that were well fleshed out were Pterano and possibly Guido. All the others seemed a bit rushed.
