LBT Projects / Lies

DarkHououmon, could you perhaps post this video on another video-hosting place? I think that would provide a temporary solution for this predicament.

General Land Before Time / favorite and least favorite lbt character

My favorites would have to be the sharpteeth, specifically the dinosaurian types. Honestly, I don't care too much for the main characters. Does that make me anti-LBT?

I swear, on my machine the video "stops" earlier, asking you if you would like to replay the video or share it with friends earlier. It may simply be my Internet connection acting funny---but this doesn't happen when I watch other videos on YouTube.

General Land Before Time / A rather randomish thing I've noticed

Personally, speaking, I think his teeth look better in the original. I looks like he's worn them down by sequel #11. Perhaps he grinds his teeth in his sleep.
If anything, in the original his teeth look more eroded. His new teeth look clean, straight, and smooth, whereas the old teeth look broken or uneven. Of course, in the jungle, where dentists come in short supply (unless there's some "tooth-cleaning" critter I don't know about), worn and uneven teeth would probably make more sense for a dinosaur chowing down on thick vegetation.

BTW, here's what real Apatosaurus teeth look like---not a lot like those of Littlefoot or anyone in his family. Either Littlefoot and his family aren't really Apatosauruses as traditionally claimed, or the cartoonists really got their teeth wrong.

While I suppose they know how many cold times, times of the changing treestars etc. they have seen I don't think they would even know the numbers to say "I'm 2354 days old".

Do they even have "cold times"? Judging from the vegetation,  the Great Valley looks tropical/subtropical, with a lot of jungle, and while temperature does become more mild during wintertime in the subtropics, it rarely feels "cold" unless one lives close to the ocean (coastal locations can receive plenty of wind).

I've noticed you have another tribute to sharpteeth here. I like it.

Damn shame I don't have any LBT movies to take footage from; I feel like making a music video myself. If I had all the equipment necessary at my disposal, I'd make a video with the Mortal Kombat theme, using some action-packed footage.

And yes, I realize Mortal Kombat has little to do with LBT, but I have a very strange mind.  :lol

Though the violence in some of the fighting sequences in the sharptooth footage, especially the one with the Allosaurus, does stun me considering the nature of the videos.

BTW, is it just me, or does your Lies video stop earlier than it used to. I mean, the first piece of footage (with the sharptooth prowling in the jungle) hasn't ended by the time it stops.

Furthermore, where did Chomper pick up leaf-eater talk, anyway? He was still a newborn in LBT 2, so he couldn't have understood the gang's talking and pick it up.

He most certainly could have picked it up.  There's a reason studies have shown if you're very good and interested in bilingual education, you'll pick up on it (and actually have an easier time with it) if you learn new languages at a young age.  I certainly think Chomper could have picked up on it.
How young, precisely? I doubt newborns like Chomper in LBT 2 could even comprehend any language.

General Land Before Time / Sharptooth language

Throughout the LBT series, sharpteeth do not speak the humanoid language spoken by most of the other dinosaurs; instead, they roar, growl, and snarl just like wild animals. At first, this may look like an indication of low intelligence. However, in LBT 5, they actually provide subtitles for the sharpteeth, suggesting that their roaring represents a sophisticated language in its own right. At least just as curiously, Chomper also demonstrates an ability to talk in leaf-eater/pterosaur language, and fluently too.

Why don't the sharpteeth speak in the same language as the other dinosaurs as often? They obviously have the mental capacity to communicate in such language. Furthermore, where did Chomper pick up leaf-eater talk, anyway? He was still a newborn in LBT 2, so he couldn't have understood the gang's talking and pick it up.

As for "sharptooth warriors", I suppose the dinosaurs would first have to be explained what war is, and I doubt that they would understand that concept.
Well, the dinosaurs in LBT have shown plenty of signs of sentience and organization, so I wouldn't put the concept of organized warfare (or at least skirmishing and raiding) above them.

Actually there is one new piece of information. The character is not going to be called Ovie after all. The new name of Ovie will be "Ruby" which may render all theories of Ovie being and Oviraptor useless. There is no information on the species yet.
I'm thinking a raptor for Ruby; sounds perfect for a villainess trying to annex the Great Valley with sharptooth warriors!

Eh...never mind.

I wonder how "Always There" would sound played in a traditional style, using folk instruments such as pan flutes and native percussion.

I've always thought that the "tribal" style you describe would fit LBT very well. More primal, more prehistoric!

General Land Before Time / a spinosaurus in lbt?
« on: June 21, 2006, 07:27:18 AM »
If any relatively recent movie will affect what species of dinosaurs get into upcoming LBTs, I would wager that it'll be Peter Jackson's King Kong, not the much less recent. Which is not to say that we won't see a Spinosaurus or that we'll see Venatosaurs or V. rexes any time soon.

This is pretty much just slapped together (I made this at 2 in the morning). It's a music video for the sharpteeth since they are my fav creatures in the LBT movies.

The sharpteeth are my favorites too! And Evanescence is my favorite band!

I wonder why you choose "Lies" for this video. Did you just select it out of liking it, or do the lyrics have a relevant meaning concerning sharpteeth?

I noticed that some people think Littlefoot and his friends arn't verry big. well in truth he and his friends are bigger than you would think. Littlefoot for one would be the size of a adault human. so think about that.
You've provided zilch evidence to back this up.

I wonder, how does Littlefoot compare in size to the tyrannosaurs? I've read that a T. rex's knee was about equal in height from the ground to a standing man's head. There should exist plenty of instances in LBT history where we see Littlefoot stand close to a tyrannosaur. If his head does indeed reach the sharptooth's knee, we probably would have to agree that Littlefoot reaches human height. If he doesn't, we can dismiss that hypothesis (unless one could argue that the LBT universe is a "Skull Island" type of place where dinosaurs grow much bigger than they did in the Terran Mesozoic).

Veto! No non-LBT elements.
How does one define a "non-LBT" element?

I admit no civilizations existed in dinosaur days, but since LBT takes so many liberties with history anyway, I don't see why people or their monuments would look out of place in the LBT fantasy world.

I have returned! I have some ideas on possible enemies and locations for our characters to explore:

Enemies

Velociraptor ("desert clawfoot"): Desert-dwelling social predator

Utahraptor ("jungle clawfoot"): Social predator closely related to Velociraptor, but larger and living in greener environments

Spinosaurus ("swamp snipper"): Large wetland theropod that preys on small creatures

Alligator/crocodile ("crawlbelly/snapper"): Semi-aquatic reptilian predator residing in rivers and wetlands

Shark ("swimming sharptooth/sea monster"): Monstrous fish partial to dinosaurs and other creatures

Anaconda/Python ("strangler"): Large snake that chokes its prey to death with its coils

Dragon ("poison breather"): Cave-dwelling reptile that exhales venomous breath

Giant Spider: Eight-legged arachnid with a venomous bite; dwells in caves and ravines

Allosaurus (plains sharptooth):  Large predator native to savannahs and parklands

Carnotaurus (horned sharptooth): Ferocious-looking predator found in all biomes

Tyrannosaurus rex ("tyrant sharptooth"): Top predator of the LBT ecosystem, feared by all for its strength and ferocious courage; native to woodlands and jungles

Landscapes

Badlands: Scantly vegetated maze of ravines and chasms.
Desert: Barren, desolate landscape with scarce food except by oases patrolled by Velociraptors; sandstorms and dust devils common
Savannah: Grassland with occasional trees and lots of vicious predators, especially allosaurs
Swamp: Lots of water, mist, and monsters
Lagoon: Islands lay dotted around this tropical lagoon, which has a large shark population
Forest: Humid forest with abundant food, but also home to Utahraptors
Caverns: Spiders and dragons infest these lightless, eerie grottos
Jungle: Sultry rainforest, the realm of the ferocious Tyrannosaurus rex
Paradise: Your new home, but besieged by a great volcanic eruption

I think you could have an RPG with each character in the team having a different strength or use. For example, Petrie could scout and reach regions and artifacts the other characters couldn't and Cera could fight the most effectively, (or maybe move the fastest).

As for plot...perhaps the dinosaurs could move out of the Great Valley in search of a new home after eating the Valley's vegetation? Perhaps some disaster such as an earthquake or else could separate Littlefoot et al. for the rest of the herd, and they would have to reach their destination via a completely different, more dangerous route.

I'll come up with more ideas later.

Sharpteeth aren't especially known for their intelligence, nor for their keen awareness of their surroundings.

Actually, sharpteeth are probably smarter than leaf-eaters. Studies have found that theropods have a higher brain-to-body ratio than other dinosaurs, and comparing brain-to-body ratios is considered one way to comparing different animals' intelligences. Also, it appears that, generally, predators have superior intelligence to their prey.

General Land Before Time / Is the Great Valley Doomed?

Hey, wait, if as in LBT 6 there is a "frontier" that connects to the Great Valley and is accessible to the sharpteeth, one would expect at least a small influx of sharpteeth into the Valley via this "frontier". If so, perhaps the Valley is more sustainable and less peaceful than the dialogue in the movies would imply.

General Land Before Time / Is the Great Valley Doomed?
« on: February 12, 2006, 09:10:06 AM »
Presumably, the Great Valley is an Edenic paradise with plenty of vegetation and no carnivores, which is why the herbivores in the LBT franchise have migrated towards it. I don't think the Valley will last, though.

Predators are an essential part of an ecosystem. By killing herbivores for food, they keep herbivore populations in check, so that the plant-eaters don't devour all of the vegetation. Remove the carnivores, and then the vegetarians cleanse their habitat of foliage, and then starvation ensues. Since the Great Valley has no predator population to eat the plant-eating dinosaurs, I think it's reasonable to assume that the Great Valley has a barren, deforested destination not too far in the future.

Actually, this possible scenario would make an interesting LBT sequel. Perhaps the dinosaurs, after eating up everything, will need to migrate out of the Valley and find another place to live, having to brave the dangers of the wilderness along the way. This idea has a lot of potential in my opinion.
