Post by: Stitch on October 18, 2005, 09:51:41 PM
Here's something new.  Same rules as with the other trivia games.

Here we go:

What show has the distinct title of being the longest running game show of all time?

If you think you know the answer, come on down!

I suppose you mean in consecutive years because "Family Fued" has been on equally as long even though its gone through three hosts (Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, and finally Richard Karn).

Hmmm...would it be the Donald Duck cartoons from the 40s?  Many of them included Chip and Dale, who later got their own shows in the 50s, and Rescue Rangers in the 80s.

yep. Scooby-Doo has produced 11 spin-offs each one with  'Scooby Doo' in the title. The most recent was the recently canceled 'what's New Scooby doo?" whoich was canceled last month. Your turn kenji.

I wasn't aware when you meant "spin off" that it meant it could spin off a show with the same characters and name.  Usually that isn't what a spin off is.

i.e. Laverne and Shirley is a spin off of Happy Days.

Oh well...

Yes!  I got one, but it may be a problem to those not in the U.S.  Here goes:

The making of a second version (same show title, different city setting) of this crime drama caused controversy with the main actor of the first version.

In 2001, this film was released by Disney, but was not one of its own creations.  In its native country it was practically the highest grossing film ever.  While it did not receive a huge US release, in that year it was dubbed one of the most amazing animated films ever created.  Can you figure it out the name of the film and where it was made?

(I heard about this film when it first came out and I was amazed how a film so small could draw so much attention.)

This is easy.

It is Spirited Away, directed by the great Miyazaki.  I believe it was made by Studio Ghibli, based in Japan.

I think we ought to slide out of anime since it might become the RR and Stitch show. :p

There were many "copycats" of this mid-90s craze which involved raising a pet and you could treat it as a pet, only it was not a pet.  Name the company that started the whole thing and at least one copycat that came later.

Yep, its a Tomagotchi and just to save the hassle so we can get a new question out there, a copycat would've been a GigaPet.  Would you believe those things are STILL all the rage in Japan?    Think it has to do with housing situation and not being able to keep real pets...anyway..

This song was made popular in the mid 1990s, and was subject to a lawsuit by Mattel.  A disclaimer was put on the song's album as a result.

Title: Pop Culture Trivia
Post by: action9000 on July 03, 2006, 10:55:14 PM
Correct! :D
For obvious reasons, especially if you read the lyrics (http://www.purelyrics.com/index.php?lyrics=fhjpacrk), Mattel wasn't too happy with their doll being discussed in a commercial song without their permission.

I *think* it's just called "The Legend"
