^ Why wouldn't they put the aspect ratio as seen in theaters? TVs by and large are widescreen these days, same as it would have appeared in theaters so I actually don't think you will see a 1.33:1 aspect ratio on the blu-ray. While it may not be perfect, it would be ok with me, given that Bluth designed the film to be matted for theaters in a widescreen format so no heads should be chopped off or anything.
Ah yes, I got confused between aspect ratios there. If they do keep the original aspect ratio then I'll imagine it will be 1.78:1 since thats the ratio most animated films of the time were, although judging by previous Uni blu catalogue releases it wouldnt surprise me if it was a straight DVD port in 1.33:1 format. Unlikely though since I imagine there would be fair backlash from people if they released something in that format now.
Was quite wary about the idea of a lego film but the trailer looks really good and so far the reviews are saying it is brilliant, I can see it becoming a pretty big hit on opening weekend.
Saw 12 Years A Slave a few days ago (finally started showing at my local cinema), I normally dont like historical oscar-bait type films but I thought this was phenomenal, some of the best performances I've seen in years.
I would enjoy it if the Blu-Ray had noticably improved picture quality, but it all depends on the print of the film that they use. The only other 2D animation I've seen on Blu-Ray released by Universal was Watership Down and you could tell they didn't do a lot of work on the picture and sound front. I've found Universal's treatment for their back catalogue films pretty terrible for the past few years and I am wary about whether they will change anytime soon, but I will still get it just so I can have a Blu-Ray copy of it.
What would be relly cool is if they did what MGM/United Artists did for the re-release of Nimh and got a commentary track recorded, but I doubt Uni are particularly bothered considering the 'Special Anniversary Edition' of the DVD had nothing on it in the way of bonuses.
(One thing that is likely though is that the original aspect ratio will be retained as with all Blu-Rays, I was quite annoyed that the UK LBT DVD was in a 4:3 ratio when we were one of the only countries where Uni released American Tail in 1.33:1 format)

I am really chuffed with all my presents, way more than I was expecting to get!
I assume most people have seen trailers/adverts for the new Walking With Dinosaurs movie that comes out next week. I was really looking forward to this when I saw the first trailer months back, especially since I adore the incredible BBC TV series it is based on, but I am fairly disappointed to hear that they have, one month before release, decided to hire voice actors to voice the dinosaurs, despite the fact that their mouths don't move.
Whilst originally promoted as a educational visual spectacle, Fox seem to have turned it into a generic kids comedy movie and completely gone against what the original BBC series was about. From the newest trailer, the film looks absolutely gorgeous (using the same live-action/CGI mix technique as Disney's Dinosaur) but it is clear that the voice acting is pretty rushed and sounds terrible.
While I think the film will still be perfectly watchable and decent, and might even be surprisingly good, it is a real shame that studios seem to be scared of releasing a good documentary-style dinosaur film, and have this outdated attitude that only toddlers will want to see a film about dinosaurs (Still, at least we have a fourth Jurassic Park film to look forward to in 2015)
I don't mean to sound entirely negative here, I am still looking forward to seeing it despite being annoyed at it's production, but I would probably recommend watching the BBC documentary series beforehand.
The worst film I've ever seen by far is a British comedy film called 'Love Bite' which I saw in the cinema last year. Meant to be a horror-comedy about werewolves but is actually a combination of the most stupid and immature sex jokes imaginable, like it was written by a 13 year-old, with about 5 minutes of terribly CGI'd werewolves at the end to justify the horror tag. I was literally the only person in the entire cinema watching it and I can understand why.
It actually caused a bit of controversy here in the UK because it was partially funded with government money, and the film was so poor it actually caused political debate about wasting taxpayers' money.
I'm one of the few people who actually didn't find the tinysauruses or yellowbellies annoying - they arent going on my favourite character list anytime soon but i didn't mind their presence in the films.
I can't think of a top 10 but the only character who i can think of who genuinely annoyed me was Rhett in the TV series, but I suppose he is intended to be quite annoying so that makes sense.
Most of the electronics I own are video game consoles (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, ZX Spectrum, Dragon 32, CD-i, Game Gear, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP, DS Lite, 3DS XL, PSP, Neo Geo Pocket Color) I also have a Lenovo brand laptop, Sony Xperia S phone, Philips blu-ray player, Sony VCR and Pioneer laserdisc player.
My main hobby is VHS collecting (been collecting them since 2009), and just this week I purchased my 1100th VHS tape for the collection. My wall of video tapes really is something to behold. You can never say 'there's nothing to watch' when you are in my house!
It's a particularly interesting hobby for a film lover like me because there are all sorts of obscure stuff you will find on VHS that turn out to be great despite no-one knowing about them.
My top sad songs would be the original Kate Bush version of 'This Woman's Work' (Which usually does top the sad songs list from people in the UK, because that song has become well-known here from an advert for a child abuse charity) and 'Hello' by Evanescence, although you could include a lot of their songs.
Special mention also goes to 'Bullet' by Hollywood Undead, which somehow manages to be one of the saddest and one of the happiest songs of all time. You could have a good upbeat dance to it if you weren't paying attention to the lyrics.
I wouldn't say I really dislike any of them, even the 13th which everyone seems to hate I just thought was underwhelming compared to the others. Out of the first 10 though, I think either 6 or 8 would be the one I enjoyed the least, while they were still entertaining I found myself more bored by those ones than the others.
Bambi is by far my favourite, and Lion King would be certain for second place. Also worth noting is that Bambi and Lion King are IMO the only two Disney films with direct-to-video sequels that actually live up to the originals, even if they are noticably lower quality.
This does look good. The scene you linked was pretty interesting, the animation seemed a lot smoother than most animes tend to be. I'm not too disappointed that it won't be in English, I find the voices for most anime dubs tend to grate after a while. The original Japanese usually seems better to me.

Yeah, I mentioned the English dub that got cancelled, which I was originally disappointed about, but the brief clip that did get released featured some of the most atrocious voice acting I'd ever heard. It was literally like they had randomly picked people up off the street and told them to speak in the same manner they would to a 6 month-old baby, when the film itself is aimed more at a family audience of 6-7 and up. I hope a company like Funimation or Viz Media pick it up in the future. (Particularly with the Pixar dinosaur film next year, would be a good opportunity for a cash-in release.)
The original Japanese version contains a lot of famous anime VAs, the main T-Rex (Heart) is voiced by the man who also voiced L from Death Note and Usopp from One Piece.
Considering it’s both animation-related and dinosaur-related, I’m surprised there isn’t a topic here already about one of my favourite films of all time. If you want to use the original title, its “Omae Umasou da na!”, which translates to ëYou Are Delicious!’ although most people refer to it as You Are Umasou.
If you haven’t heard of it, which you probably haven’t, it is an anime film about a Tyrannosaurus Rex who is raised by a Maiasaura. Angry about how he was born into a herbivore family, he runs away and grows up by himself as a meat-eater, where he finds an egg which hatches into a baby Ankylosaurus, who believes that the T-Rex is his father. Taking the name Umasou (delicious), due to a misunderstanding when the T-Rex says how good he will taste, the T-Rex reluctantly adopts him and ends up forming a strong parental bond.
Although the storyline is quite strange (and will have palaeontologists shouting in anger) the actual film is beautiful, with a very simplistic cartoon style which makes every single character, even the more murderous T-Rex villains, insanely cute. As well as being a heartwarming story about family, there is a lot of action, including a brilliant scene in which the main T-Rex beats up several other dinosaurs using martial arts set to a Japanese nursery rhyme:
Although it looks like a silly little cartoon, it is really well written, well paced (although the intro is a little rushed) and all the characters are lovable from the minute they appear on screen.
Unfortunately, the English dub of the film was cancelled pretty early on, despite the fact they even released a trailer for it. Shame as the film is perfect for all ages and since there are so many cheap direct-to-DVD family films being released now, it must be profitable for a dubbing company to pick it up elsewhere, especially with the fact it is anime attracting the whole anime fanbase as well as the colourful kids appeal. The only version available is the Japanese version with subtitles, but I would really strongly recommend this film to anyone.
I assume that no-one has, but is there anybody out there other than me that has seen this?

Bambi seems to be one of the more obscure Disney films in terms of fanbase, most people generally prefer the 90s Disney films but the original 5 from the 30s and 40s are the best for me. Also, I have to say that your avatar is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen.
I haven’t seen the 10th, 11th or the 13th films yet so this might change once I’ve seen them:
1) Most liked Land Before Time character – Tie between Petrie and Ducky, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Petrie, because he is the funniest by far. Even his poor speech skills are highly amusing and normally characters who talk like that tend to annoy me.
2) Least liked Land Before Time character – Erm, not really sure, I wouldn’t say I disliked any of them. I’m tempted to say the Sharptooth since he is the villain but you aren’t really meant to like him so that goes without saying.
3) Most liked Land Before Time song – I’ll be unpopular and say Flip, Flap and Fly from Great Day of the Flyers, really great and fun song and is the only LBT song I have on my phone.
4) Least liked Land Before Time song – Too many to list, the music really isn’t one of the positive points for the franchise as a whole for me. Basically any song other than Flip Flap and Fly, If We Hold On Together and possibly Peaceful Valley, is a song that I don’t really like.
5) Most liked Land Before Time film – The original, definitely. I love the sequels and the series but the original 1988 is miles beyond any of them in terms of animation, story, score and everything.
6) Least liked Land Before Time film – Don’t really dislike any of them but the 8th is probably the one I’ve been the most bored by.
7) Most memorable LBT moment – Probably the birth of Littlefoot from the original, one of the most adorable and heartwarming things ever animated. I would honestly watch a full 90-minute film of just the dinosaurs as babies frolicking about.
I only ever have dreams maybe once every 3 or 4 months or so, and all of mine are ridiculously mundane and boring. I have had a few LBT-related reams but they have all just involved me wandering around the great valley or something, I've never been able to actually communicate with any of the characters.
I'd love to try and lucid dream into an LBT dream so I have full control of what happens, but it's an incredibly hard thing to do even with practice.
