Post by: action9000 on June 26, 2019, 09:06:14 PM
[Edit]

Server has been private. Please disregard this thread.

Be advised that in step 4 you can find your .minecraft folder here in Windows:

C:\Users\\[username]\AppData\Roaming\\.minecraft\mods

And that you will need to allow the viewing of hidden files to see the AppData folder.

Aye! Another way to get to roaming appdata without showing hidden folders is by typing %appdata% in explorer :)

My original reason for coming to this thread today was to ask about the progress of things on the server and what other players are doing on it. But apparently, the server has recently been private? If the server was only whitelisted, then my question can still apply. I would probably go to check things myself, but I'm too lazy and I still don't feel like opening up Minecraft after three years. :p

Well the server still exists, at least. I'm not sure if it was actually set to private or not. I can still access it, but I was also one of the original players.

It's because Action9000 left the GoF community, although he still keeps in touch with most of us, and I'm sure he would still welcome new players. I know you said you're not that interested, but if you ever are, just let me know and I can put you in touch with him.

Well...my initial question about the progress within the server hasn't been answered yet, but the answer you gave here satisfied the other half of my questions. :)

Also, just curious. Does having many mods on the server affect your Minecraft performance in any way?

Progress has been coming along nicely. We've built ourselves a lovely town so far:

Do you mean does it affect how well my computer loads the game while I'm playing? Or do you mean my Minecraft play style? In both cases, no, it doesn't have a significant impact.

You know, you almost had me convinced on coming to check out the server. Why? Well, let's just say that the third and fourth screenshots with the named scorpions are...erm, wow. I get the concept and humor, but it just seems so out of place and unexpected, especially in Minecraft. :lol

I notice that you use stone bricks, stone, and cobblestone as preferred building supplies. The same goes for me as well, plus polished andesite, polished diorite, and polished granite. I also use wood planks and even the actual logs sometimes. Lava is something I enjoy using too in my bases, as it serves as both an aesthetic and a light source.

That mineshaft you built is at diamond level, correct?
When I saw the screenshot with the sign that said "Stardust Station 1", it reminds me more of a railroad system rather than an underground base. Ooh, that could be a possible good idea. You can connect places far and wide with that to provide fast transportation for others. :)

My preference of a play style for Minecraft would mainly be vanilla. Some select mods would be nice, but not too many as it would be unnecessary and hinder the performance of the game. But then again, if you're running Minecraft on a 10+ year old computer like I am, then it wouldn't take much for the game to be laggy.

So yeah, I still remember my Minecraft experience despite not playing it for more than 3 years.

Actually, I have been playing the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft as recent as 2019, but I'm not sure how many months ago. If I didn't had my brother to play it with, I probably would've never started it again.

You can thank @DarkHououmon for those.

I haven't used lava much, but wood planks and logs are another material I use a lot. In fact, my storage room is made out of planks/logs. I didn't think to take a screenshot of it before, but I'll try and remember for the next time I go on.

The base/mineshaft entrance isn't at diamond level, but it leads directly to a staircase that goes down until it gets there. Y=11 is my default elevation for my mining tunnels. I don't know about a railroad system specifically, but it is my idea to eventually connect my different Stardust Stations via some sort of underground tunnel network.

Vanilla is what I've played the most as well. It's what I tend to default to, but I have occasionally played with various mods. There's a lot of really cool mods out there. My computer is a lot newer though, so I usually don't have performance issues.

What's Minecraft like on Xbox 360? Is it any better or worse than the PC version, or otherwise significantly different?

Y=12 used to be my default mining level, but later on I also changed it to Y=11.

One of my favorite Minecraft mods include the Local Weather, Storms, & Tornado mod. It was a pity to see it not included in the server’s mod pack, as it could’ve added a lot of fun, chaotic action and put a twist in the overall way you play and strategize in the game. Examples include what type of building materials to use, the safest location to avoid storms, etc. But then again, it would be a bit boring if you did what I suggested in the previous sentence. Destruction can be frustrating, but also fun. :p

Minecraft on the Xbox 360 and other gaming consoles are no longer being updated as we speak, a long time ago actually. Only the PS4 edition is still updated to this day. TU74 for the Xbox 360 edition is the last latest update, and its equivalent to the Aquatic Update on the PC version. Back when the Xbox 360 version was released May 9, 2012, it had the same features and mechanics you would expect in the beta 1.66 version of PC Minecraft. The controls will obviously be different, but overall the feel and gameplay should be the same. It does have a different interface though for things like crafting and there’s no hit cool down. That’s all I can explain without going too deep into it.

@StardustSoldier: Just curious, is the server still running?

Oh, and here’s a unrevealed fun fact for you. See my most recent post on August 19? Well, I had to rewrite the entire thing because I lost internet connection. Yikes, I’m surprised that I still had most of the original words.

Something similar happened to me not that long ago when I logged into the forum, but only for an hour. I forget which thread exactly, but I was typing up a long post and then I tried to submit it, except my hour had expired during that time and I got an error message. Whoops! Darned data vampires.

Edit: And right after I said that, it happened to me again in my very next post (on the Christmas music thread).
:opetrie
Thankfully, I was able to retrieve my original message by logging back in and then hitting the back button.

Yes, the server is still running. I still play on it about once a week.

I always have to do that because I’m constantly logged out. I don’t understand why I never check the box that says “Stay logged in” when I come on this forum.

@StardustSoldier: Did you have your gaming session with Owls yet? If so, was the prophecy of the dream fulfilled or not? And most importantly, did you have fun? ;)

I honestly still have a tiny urge of joining the Minecraft server, which is only extinguished by the amount of mods I would have to download.

But...don’t count me out completely though. ;)Cera

A creeper blast blew me to the sky and I almost died from fall damage. So his dream probably was a premonition to my session. :PCera

If it's anything, don't worry about the mods. There is a compiled modpack .zip folder so you don't have to physically download all of them. I'd only been playing vanilla for a few weeks before I joined amd I still got acclimatized to it rather handily. :chompysmile

It's still by invite only, so you'll have to ask if you do get around to it. :Mo

Yikes, you must’ve had good armor to survive a direct creeper blast and the fall damage combined. Dreams are sometimes so weird, lol.

Well, it isn’t really only the downloading part of mods, but how my computer would handle all the extra components actually. The frame rate would probably be bad with that many mods, plus it’s kinda bad in the first place. Optifine does help a bit though. :p

Yeah, I’ll let you guys know if I ever decide to hitch in on ya.

And on the topic of creepers, you just reminded me of a pretty old Minecraft music video called “I hate creepers.” I think it’s a good song worth listening to. :p

Nice song. :PCera

I don't care about the framerate with the server because of Taunt's damn chicken army lagging my client. Lags everyone to some extent. :p Not to coerce you in or anything, just saying that I'm used to lag spikes:

Mr. Threehorn and Stern Claw really needs to keep his behavior in check tbh. But anyway...

Um...hehe...oh dang. 68 mods, seriously? With Minecraft averaging at 20-30 FPS for me with low settings (and no optifine), that will most likely just kill my frame rate entirely if I’m gonna be brutally honest. :rolleyes

I honestly wasn’t expecting the amount of mods to be 68. :o

The mods still don't lag me as much as the chickens. :p
Maybe it's just me, but they never lagged me to the effect of having a performance slump even with a lower-end laptop (one of the mods is Optifine, thank goodness). Y'see, vanilla also tanks my computer. I wasn't pleased to learn that MC is one of those games that used single-core performance because my laptop is better in multi-core hyperthreading. There is a way to increase memory allocated to the game, but again, it's all up to you. Just keep it in mind. :p

Hm...that’s actually pretty interesting to know. I knew that adding RAM towards the game would improve its performance, but I also didn’t realize that Minecraft only ran using the power of a single core only. Lol, thanks for the new insight. :p

I’m still disappointed there’s no Local Weather, Storms, & Tornado Mod in the mod pack though! :PCera

Single-threaded, not single-core, after a look-up. Optifine changes that though. :P

The prophecy of the dream was not fulfilled. There were no silly deaths involved. But yes, we did have fun. :yes

As Owls said, not to pressure you. But we would certainly welcome a new player if you ever do get around to it.
