Ah, grand. In that case, here's that quote from "Catcher in the Rye"

Quote from: Holden Caulfield on
That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "**** you" right under your nose.

I like it because, in a figurative sense, it's very true.

I've always had good luck with Adobe Elements with resizing animated pictures. If you'd like, you can PM (or link) the image to me and I'll resize it for you.

'cause y'all care so much and I have an ego bigger than Mars (well, not reallty, I do like showing off my art, though XD). I figured I'd show you guys some of my work on the off chance you like it or something. Most of these are sketches (many pending lineart) because I've been in a huge art block for months and haven't really finished much art. The last thing I DID finish has blood in it so I won't show you folks XD

My alias comes from this little fellow, my "Mickey Mouse" if you will. I've bounced between calling it a he or a she XD There currently exists 2 versions now, male and female. This is the female one...not that it matters because you can't tell.

An anthropomorphic weasel character of mine as a young adult. He's soon to become a doctor/surgeon and be not terribly unlike Sweeney Todd...

Cartoon vulture character sketches.

Crocodile in a top hat. Mm-yep.

A character in an RPG of mine. He's a raccoon called...Coon (although his name is Iztoz) who commands the greatest army on the fictional planet the story takes place on.

One of my favorite completed artworks, though, is this one:
http://artemispanthar.deviantart.com/art/M...Sonata-36487002

If you liked my art and want to see more (crazies) you can go to my DA page: http://artemispanthar.deviantart.com
OR my livejournal sketch journal (you must have an LJ and friend the account to see art there) at: http://wallscratches.livejournal.com/profile
In either case there ARE mature art on them (mature as in gore, not as in sex) so proceed with caution. DA will block out the mature art if you don't have an account or if you set your account to hide them, however, so no worries there.

Sound Off! / Favorite Artist/Album

I'm more for individual songs than artists/albums. I'm a BIG Morrissey fan, I love Green Day, and The Killers.

My favorite albums are, I guess:
Strangeways, Here I Come by The Smiths and American Idiot by Green Day. Good stuff.

Attic Treasures / GoosebumpS
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:05:35 PM »
I kind of liked them as a kid but I realized pretty quickly that they weren't scary at all XD Although not a book, the TV rival to Goosebumps, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" was much better at providing a scare. The scares in Goosebumps are too cheap for me, I guess XD But then, they are for kids.

Attic Treasures / Genre
« on: January 18, 2008, 07:59:15 PM »
In order: Horror, Sci-Fi, and Mystery. I do like Fantasy, but it's too wide a genre for me to vote for (there's a lot of fantasy I don't care for). I'm more into horror and sci-fi myself, I love spooky things. I love speculative fiction, too, I love how sci-fi speculates on where we'll be going and what the future will be like. I especially love the nature of fear, I love the analyze why something scares us and what it means. That's why I love horror.
Also, there's this whole big theory of thanatos in horror that I won't bore you with but it's a big factor in why I love the genre XD

Stephen King has a nice foreward in one of his short story books that is a good one-sentence go on the subject:
Quote from: Stephen King on
And the great appeal of horror fiction through the ages is that it serves as a rehearsal for our own deaths.

As for mystery, well I picked that because I like True Crime. Granted, that would be non-fiction, but I don't like most non-fiction. Mystery tends to be a bit of both so I let it count for the True Crime genre.

According to Wikipedia, yeah, although I've never really watched Monty Python. Wilde is a very famous writer so I'm not surprised. Although I only really know him because my mother is a big fan. My brother is even named Dorian after "The Picture of Dorian Gray".

Well one of my favorite quotes, from "The Catcher in the Rye", uses a curse word and I'm not sure if I can put it up here XD

I like Hamlet. Not so much the story as a whole (it's good but I'm not much one for Shakespeare). I like it because it has some of the greatest lines I've ever heard (er, read):

Quote from: Hamlet on
There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

Quote from: Hamlet on
I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.

The whole "To Be or Not to Be" speech is awesome, but long XD I'll pick out my favorite part

Quote from: Hamlet on
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; ó
To sleep, perchance to dream: ó ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,

Quote from: Hamlet & Rosencrantz on
Hamlet: Denmark's a prison.
Rosencrantz: Then is the world one.

I'm not sure about the nationality being a distinctive mark if it comes to the quality of anybodies writings.
It's not, really, it's just a mark of style. Depending on one's upbringing, culture, and environment their writing is usually styled in a different way. Additionally, they tend to write about different ideals - there are much more American books about westward expansion and the wild frontier than British books, for example.

Aaaanyway, I'm part British =D I know a lot of Americans are, I mean my grandmother is actually from London. That doesn't mean anything, but it's true. I know quite a bit of British authors. I'll exclude the others mentioned, though:

There's, of course, Brian Jacques (the Redwall series), Mary Shelley, Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde, A. A. Milne, Phillip Pullman, Bram Stoker, Lewis Carroll, Runyard Kipling, R. L. Stevenson, and on and on. It's hard trying to remember them off the top of my head and reeeeeally hard not to cheat and look since I'm wikipedia-ing them to double check and make sure they're british.

On a semi-related note, T.S. Eliot is technically an American author but, like you, wanted to be British and became a citizen over there.

Silver Screen / The Lion King and Kimba
« on: January 18, 2008, 06:16:24 PM »
Unless Kimba, the White Lion is also based on "Hamlet" then no, The Lion King is not a rip-off. In anycase, lions have always been seen as kings (King of the Jungle) so if Kimba is also seen as a prince/king (I don't recall if he was) that doesn't mean the Lion King was ripping it off. The name is pretty pointless to debate, as Simba means lion in Swahili. It's not just Kimba with an S.

I'll admit that maybe there's inspiration there, but rip-off? No.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Future Speculation

No, but it would increase the likelihood of it.  After all, they would be focusing all their energy, time, and money into a sequel as opposed to both a sequel and a bunch of little mini movies.
Not really. See, even though they're made by the same company, they're very likely worked on by seperate groups. Just because they have both a series and a sequel has no bearing on the quality of either, since each group focuses on one project. And just because the TV series dies, doesn't mean the people working on it will then work on the sequels. It's more likely that they'll go on to work on other TV shows for the same company.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / The FIRST episode you saw
« on: January 18, 2008, 05:25:44 PM »
I believe it was "Canyon of the Shiny Stones" or something like it. I was kind of put-off by the random CG they used, as it was gaudy. However, over the next few episodes they seemed to catch on that it didn't look good and now use it less (at least for the characters) so I'm happy XD I just thought it was cute and have been watching ever since.

1988 Theatrical Release / You will never believe this.

But seriously, who brings religion into a children's movie?

Erm, Don Bluth. "All Dogs Go to Heaven" (one of my all time favorites) has death, heaven, AND hell in it =D There you go.
Also, I guess "Prince of Egypt" was a childrens movie...

In anycase, I'm not against people have opinions and I know a lot of people dislike these kinds of movies. What bothers me, though, is that the reviews are too angry to be considered serious reviews, and too short to provide any real comedy. I've read a lot of mocking reviews of movies/TV (on i-mockery.com and televisionwithoutpity.com), where even if I love the show/movie the reviews are too hilarious to take any offense too. These reviews are just too lacking to provide amusement =\ they're lazy, in my opinion. Oh well...

1988 Theatrical Release / Tell Your Story About LBT
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:14:16 PM »
Well, I was born in '88 so obviously I didn't see it then XD I don't exactly recall WHEN I saw the first movie, but I definitely saw it before the sequels. I had the VHS and I remember always liking it. Like many of you, I was big into dinosaurs when I was little (loved Jurassic Park and We're Back: A Dinosaur Story) so that was a major factor in my enjoyment. The death of Littlefoot's mother always made me cry. Nowadays, though, I usually only cry at the part where he thinks his shadow is his mom =( I can't stand people in mourning/denial. It breaks my heart.
I believe I only kept renting/buying the sequels up until 4. The only VHS I still own is tLBT III. I don't think we ever owned II, which is odd because I always adored Chomper.

Anyway, I kind of lost interest after that. Not in animation, but in the sequels. Although I went through a phase where I hated kid's movies, then a phase where I hated movies where they sing. Now...I love both of them XD I also like a lot of musicals so there you go. I wish more animated films would have character songs, I'm tired of the pop music injected into movies these days =\
In anycase, I thought it was ridiculous that there was so many sequels but..now I'm not so sure XD I think the first four are cute, but I've yet to really see any ones after that (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm working on it XD). I love getting obsessed with things, though, so I plan to start collecting the DVDs when I get some money.

I got back into the series through the TV show. I like to keep tabs on animation things so when I heard they were making the series I was a little outraged XD I decided to check it out though and it really quelled my fears. It's so cute and harmless, I just can't help but watch it! XD I assume I'll like it better than the sequels, because the short time frame really works for it. It'd be nice if all the songs didn't use the same tune, but I understand why they do that. I rather like the "I Feel So Happy" song, it's really cute =D Sometimes I sing the songs I can remember to my baby sister.

Incidentally, I think it's really sad that some of you are made to feel you're odd, childish, or "too old" to watch this series. I've always felt one of the problems with this world is that everyone is too afraid to 'play' anymore =\ Sure, not everyone likes the series, or other cartoon shows, but I think a lot of people would watch and enjoy them if they weren't so afraid of being seen as immature. It doesn't make you immature to watch cartoons. What DOES make you immature is thinking less of someone simply because they like cartoons! It's not a barometer of intelligence or maturity, it's just something you enjoy. I thank my lucky stars my mother never made me feel immature for liking kid's movies and I'm sorry you folks don't have the same freedom =\

The Welcome Center / Hello Hello
« on: January 18, 2008, 12:57:21 PM »
Hey people! Thanks for the warm welcome!

Malte - Art majors don't have it so nice here, either XD but it's been my dream to animate ever since I was 4 years old, so I'm willing the brave the rough waters :3

I found GoF through another tLBT website linked through tv.com. I went to the forums there and everyone said that they came from a forum called "Gang of Five". I'll bet it was probably linked on that site but I found it via googling "Gang of Five" + "the land before time". I hope I can help making this place more well-known, so little lost tLBT fans know a place like this is out there XD

Sky - Hey =D I saw you on DeviantART!

The Welcome Center / Hello Hello
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:33:48 AM »
'ello mates! I've been scoring the 'net for DAYS looking for a good "The Land Before Time" group/forum and had all but given up when I stumbled upon this place. What luck! =D

I'm known as Artemis Panthar, but you can call me Artie, Arte, AP, or whatever you wish really (Although I'm not partial to 'Art'). I'm a 19-year old animation student (on hiatus) from sunny ol' Southern California. I graduated early from high school (at age 15), and bounced around a bit before going to college. I've been on the internet for ages and have been known by my alias for a long time so if you see another ArtemisPanthar out there, it's probably me!

I'm big into cartoons and grew up watching "The Land Before Time" series. Part way into it I kind of lost interest in the sequels but I really love the new TV series. Good stuff. My other favorite cartoons include: Rocko's Modern Life, Loonatics: Unleashed, Peep and the Big Wide World (it's just too cute XD), Tiny Toon Adventures, and on and on and on.
To note, I don't particularly care for anime as a whole. I don't dislike it, I'm just hard to please with that particular animation style.

Aside from animation, I'm a huge horror fan of all mediums. I'm OBSESSED with the Silent Hill series! I love horror movies, but I view them with a discerning eye: I hate the lackluster ones made just to make a buck because it perpetuates the idea that the horror genre is remedial and it really isn't. But I shall not rant about these things to you =D

My favorite movies are: Stay (you MUST see this movie), Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Se7en, 12 Monkeys, Brazil (and a lot of others...)
My favorite musicians are: Morrissey/The Smiths, Green Day, Colin Hay, and a whole bunch of songs by individual artists.
My favorite video games are: All the Silent Hills (although 2 is my favorite), Psychonauts, Skullmonkeys, the Sly Cooper series, the Ratchet and Clank series, and on...
My favorite book is: The Wainscott Weasel by Tor Seidler. A rare find but an absolutely fantastic book that deserves much more attention than it's gotten. I also like the Redwall Series and various horror books. Oh, also, Haruko Murakami.

This is really running long (although quite short for me XD), so I should wind down now. I do hope I didn't leave out anything but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I look forward to talking to ya'll in the forums!
