General Land Before Time / Youtuber Reviews all 14 sequels
« on: May 29, 2020, 12:09:57 PM »
I stumbled upon a Youtube video where a youtuber called Jenny Nicholson reviews all 14 TLBT movies. I didn't agree with mostly of what she said (she ranked TLBT IV at number 11 WHAT?!), but overall it's a cool video to watch and it's interesting to see the opinion of someone who didn't grow up with the franchise.

Here's the link for you guys to watch and leave your thoughts. She gives a shout out to this forum several times throughout the video, if you're reading this Jenny welcome to the great valley ;)

According to this article, The Land Before Time is now streaming on Netflix. I don't know if it's only in the UK, I don't have Netflix, so can any of you confirm this?

General Land Before Time / The Land Before Time Toys
« on: April 06, 2020, 11:18:16 AM »
We are all familiar with the Pizza Hut hand puppet collection that was released with the original film.

Burger King also had a six figure line including Chomper inspired by TLBT.

Besides these two are you aware of any other toy lines of our favourite characters?

General Land Before Time / Celebrity Voice Actors
« on: January 25, 2016, 02:03:45 PM »
Throughout the years there have been a few celebrity VAs that portrayed guest characters in some of the sequels, here's a list of the ones I could find:

Nancy Cartwright (Dana, in LBT VI)
Kris Kristofferson (Doc, in LBT VI)
Michael York (Pterano, LBT VII)
Robert Guillaume (Mr. Thicknose, LBT VIII)
Kiefer Sutherland (Bron, LBT X)
James Garner (Pat, LBT X)
Bernadette Peters (Sue, LBT X)
Camryn Manheim (Tria, LBT XI)
Michael Clarke Duncan (Big Daddy, LBT XI)
Sandra Oh (Doofah, LBT XIII)
Cuba Gooding Jr. (Loofah, LBT XIII)
Reba McEntire (Etta, LBT XIV)
Damon Wayans Junior (Wildarms, LBT XIV)

Which one is your favourite? Which ones did I miss?

Thanks to somerandomfangirl for pointing out that Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson) was Dana's VA.

LBT Projects / Journey Through the Mists Songs in Other Languages
« on: January 06, 2016, 01:30:17 PM »
I've recently finished editing out the songs from my digitalized VHS version of Journey Through the Mists. It's in European Portuguese, which is a very rare find since the VHS and DVD versions that were sold were all in Brazilian Portuguese. The European version only aired in Portugal a couple of times back in the 90s.

If you are curious about watching the videos you can do it here:

Grandma's Lullaby
Grandma's Lullaby

Who Needs You?

It Takes All Sorts

I thought we could start a topic for each sequel with our beloved songs in other languages. Feel free to share your own.

The Fridge / DinoData
« on: December 21, 2015, 11:45:12 AM »
For years DinoData was part of my daily morning website check up routine. However, for several months I haven't been able to find it, and the URL of the website is now free for use.

Has the project just died out? Do any of you know what happened to it?

This thread reminds me of that kind of social network, ask.me. I always felt it was a bit weird, but hey, in this forum it seems like a good way for us to get to know eachother better.

So, go ahead and ask me anything, I'm an open book (:

General Land Before Time / What happened after LBT X?
« on: November 23, 2015, 12:41:20 PM »
This might be an unpopular opinion, but after rewatching all the sequels (I'm still going to watch XIII tonight, but we all know what that's like), I came to realize that V through X aren’t actually that bad. VI and VIII are probably the runts of the litter, but all the others are pretty good and even have an escalating rise in quality throughout the years, that’s until we reach XI.

What happened after LBT X that made the overall quality of the sequels drop significantly? LBT XII is probably an exception, but it still has a few flaws, and I’m not seeing it holding up after a considerable amount of time has passed.

Is the production of the TV series to blame for this? Did they just run out of ideas? Was the franchise deliberately cut so they could have a reason to stop making more sequels?

If the answer to the last question is yes, then why are we getting LBT XIV after all these years? Has there been a change in Universal or are they just trying to capitalize on Jurassic World’s success? Is this just so that the rights for the franchise don’t fall out of Universal’s hands?

General Land Before Time / The Mysterious Beyond
« on: November 18, 2015, 11:35:38 AM »
The sequels haven't been coherent about this topic. The plot of the original film talked about a leaf shortage that made the herds leave their homes in search of the Great Valley. Their World was a desolate place, a desert of sorts, with little to no food, and the threat of Sharpteeth always looming around them.

In the sequels 2-5 we see that the mysterious beyond is still a desolate place, roaming with Sharpteeth, with only a few spots of green. Except for the Valley of the Mists, no other place seemed habitable or big enough to hold a herd the size of the population in the Great Valley.

However, from LBT VI, onward, we see that the mysterious beyond has changed. It’s now filled with trees and other leafeaters choose to live there, in spite of the danger from Sharpteeh.

Did the first movie intend for us to think that the dinosaurs were becoming extinct, and that their only salvation was the Great Valley? Or was this a localized event? Why don’t the other herds stay in the Great Valley too, since it’s safer and big enough to hold them? What’s it like in the outside World?

General Land Before Time / Actual Dinosaur Names in the franchise
« on: November 11, 2015, 10:44:56 AM »
I've been rewatching the sequels, this time in English. Two days ago I watched The Land Before II, and I've noticed that during the song "Eggs", Ozzy says "this Struthiomimus".

It was the first time I ever noticed this, which also explains why Strut has its name. How many other Dinosaurs have been called by their real scientific name in the franchise?

Out of the top of my head, I can only think of Doc (the lone Dinosaur, not Emmett Brown :p ), since he's a Diplodocus.

13
Most of us have probably thought about this issue one time or another.

How much time do you think has passed between the first movie and XIII or XIV?

I'm not talking about production years, but about the real time in the Land Before Time Universe. Most sequels timelines are spread out over a few days, but others, like III or V clearly show the Great Valley regrow its plants over at least a few months.

We can't be trully scientific about this, since, if years have trully passed most of the gang would already be grown up or at least a teenager. So how much time, counting all the movies, has it passed since they first arrived in the Great Valley?

1988 Theatrical Release / TLBT Pizza Hut Toys
« on: September 09, 2015, 12:36:21 PM »
Hi guys,

I know I've been away for so long most of you probably don't remember me.

Anyway, I've recently learned that there was a line of The Land Before Time Pizza Hut toys back when the movie was released. I don't think they were ever sold in Portugal, though.

I've decided to start collecting them in the near future, if you have any for sale please message me. If you have the collection feel free to use this thread to post photos of it and tell us how much fun you've had playing with them.

(:

1988 Theatrical Release / Petrie's Birth
« on: September 19, 2010, 06:52:32 AM »
I've thought about this before, but it came to me just now. I realised that during the original Land Before Time we witness the birth of 4 of the main characters. Ducky, Cera, Littlefoot, and Spike latter on in the film. Why is Petrie the only character of the gang of five that just shows up?

We know nothing about his parents or his siblings until the very end of the story. Why wasn't this character presented in the same way as the others?

This also brings up the issue of Petrie's age. Could it be that he's much older than the others, or maybe just a hatchling like Spike?

The Fridge / Can't remember the name of a cartoon
« on: July 02, 2010, 12:55:52 PM »
When I was a kid I used to watch this cartoon about a school where this old student lived in the bassement and transformed the school into all sorts of worlds depending on the days subject and then the kids had to find a way to save the school before he took over.

The only line from the show that I remember is when they where electing the class president and one of the characters had the slogan: "Don't be a fool, vote for O'Toole". The main character was a boy named something O'Toole.

Do any of you know this cartoon, can you tell me the name of the series? I've googled everything I could think of but just can't find it \:

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Complete Series DVD Pack
« on: August 06, 2009, 05:06:53 PM »
I was at MediaMarkt today and I saw a DVD box with the complete Land Before Times TV Series Season 1. I was curious so I took a closer look and found out that it only had the first 4 DVDs. Still it was sold for about Ä 25, what I think is a bargain. I've searched in Fnac's website and they're selling it too, so it's not  some special MediaMarkt promotion.

Here's the link:

Complete TV Series

I don't know if in any of your countries they're doing the same thing, or if there's any official DVD Box planned for release. I'd find it a great deal since two episodes have yet to be edited, although one is a special feature in one of the LBT DVDs, that's only a US promo.

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Series on DVD
« on: April 10, 2009, 05:47:36 PM »
So far there have been released 6 DVD's, each one with 4 episodes from the TV Series. In the US LBT XIII had one episode as a bonus, and there's another episode left out of the DVD release.

Does anyone have any news about a release of a DVD Box Set with the entire series? It would be a lot cheaper and more organized, than this way.

General Land Before Time / LBT IV plot rip off of Dink TLD episode
« on: February 27, 2009, 05:30:29 PM »
I was just watching Dink, The Little Dinosaur, episode entitled "Surprise!" and I couldn't help but notice that some of the scenes were strangely familiar.
Here are the similarities between this episode and LBT IV:

1) Dink wonders alone into the outskirts of the valley (like Littlefoot with Ali)
2) Dink does so to go to the Waterfall Valley (like Valley of the mists)
3) Looking for a special stone as a gift to Amber (it's her birthday)
4) She's mad at Dink because she thinks he forgot (like Cera is mad at Littlefoot because he hangs out with Ali)
5) Dink is helped and helps out a small mouse (like Tickles)
6) Dink is chased down a river by a crocodile (pretty much like what happened with Cera)
7) Dink enters a cave where he finds the stone, the cave is behind a waterfall
8) There's always an old turtle, he's part of the cast, but he's the one that shows Dink the way (pretty much like Archie in LBT IV)

Granted no one's sick, and although there's a sticky flower in the episode, it does not resemble the night flowers, and there's no Ali, and the crocodile is only on screen for about 10 seconds, however, you got be suspicous about the originality of the sequel...
