I remember when I was young I got really into Stargate Atlantis. I'd watch each episode as it came out, and it was a very arc-heavy show so I desperately wanted to either talk to someone or read more about each episode in my spare time. Problem was, i was new to the internet and the show didn't have much of an online fan base, at least that I was competent enough to find.

I ended up finding a guy on IMDB who'd leave a review for every single episode like clockwork. The problem was, he appeared to hate the show and just ragged on every episode, criticizing the plot, characters, pacing, cinematography and worldbuilding. My young impressionable mind decided this guy had to be right, because he was posting his opinions on the internet which made him an authority. It actually really soured my opinion of the show until I got a bit older and realized I didn't need to agree with or even pay attention to this random yoohoo whining about a show nobody was forcing him to watch, it was just his opinion and a particularly irrelevant one in the grand scheme of things.

I too am a huge Stargate fan and loved Stargate Atlantis. Always hated that they left it open-ended, we should've at least gotten a movie to wrap its storyline. Thankfully I never let the opinions of others influence the way I felt about a show or a movie, otherwise, I probably wouldn't still be a The Land Before Time fan ;)

Land Before Time TV Series (2007) / Re: Series on DVD
« on: August 03, 2022, 07:22:13 AM »
Wow. I had no idea they were finally releasing the full TV series on DVD. Too bad it seems to be restricted to the US. Do you guys know if these DVDs can play on European DVD players?

Also, have any of you guys bought the full 14 film box set? Is it worth it?

Speaking of Littlefoot... It looks like his neck is twisted in a unnatural way...  :rhett_ohsnap

Yeah, not really in love with Littlefoot's design here. There's an older Littlefoot figure with less articulation from Playmates that's more show accurate. It's a bit rare to find so it ends up being quite expensive.

@NewOrder What is that thing with Littlefoot supposed to be?

It's a stick with leaves, he can hold on to it with his mouth. Rather silly actually.

@NewOrder Wow, you actually own all these now? That's so cool! :Mo I have most of these figures, but I unfortunately don't have any of their accessories because I bought mine used (which is why they're sort of scuffed up, too).

I do. Got lucky, set up a few ebay alerts and managed to find them new in box for about $35 each. The most expensive one was Ruby.

Well, that's quite a find. :olittlefoot I always had thought it was really strange that Spike and Petrie were absent from the Playmates Toys lineup, but now it looks like they were meant to eventually be part of it after all. Maybe they were cancelled because the TV show wasn't very popular?

I wish we had some pictures of what the Petrie toys were going to look like, because show-accurate Petrie toys have always been nonexistent and I'm curious as to whether Playmates would've done a better job on him.

I've recently e-mailed them asking if these figures were ever released. Sadly they have yet to respond. It's been over two weeks so it's highly likely they'll never get back to me.

Would've loved to see at least prototype photos of these figures.

I've used Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to search Playmates Toys website around 2007/08 to see if I could find more information about their Land Before Time Line.

Sadly, in 2007 they were still using flash so all information from that year is lost forever. However, in 2008 they started using regular HTML. Here's the information I found about at least three toys that I've never heard about:

Bring home all the fun and laughs with your prehistoric pals from The Land Before Time.

The Land Before Time series introduces the endearing young dinosaurs to a whole new generation.  Set in prehistoric times, the series follows the journeys of Littlefoot and his dinosaur pals who, together, experience wondrous adventures, encounter challenging obstacles, and learn memorable life lessons about trust, friendship, caring and sharing.

This Spring, get ready for more earth-shaking, high-flying adventures with amazing new action figures, bean bag plush characters and more!  Kids can create their own adventures at home with new Spike, Petrie and Chomper action figures:

Tail Thumpin' Spike
A strong, silent dinosaur, Spike has a big heart and is always eager to help his friends.  Push the button on Spike's back to make his tail swing and knock down tree fruit to reveal hidden surprises!

Flappin' Petrie
Fly around the Great Valley with the clumsy and endearing Petrie.
Squeeze Petrie's legs together and his wings will flap up and down while his head
nods in motion too.  Clip him to the tree log accessory and he'll flap while you roll the
log along.

Bug Catchin' Chomper
The sweetest T-Rex around, Chomper proves that a
Sharptooth can be friends with the leaf-eaters'.  Watch him show-off his bug-
catching skills in three simple steps.  Load a bug onto the leaf, squeeze Chomper's
legs together to flip it into the air and watch him open his mouth to catch the bug for
a yummy treat!

Pull Back Leaf Racer
Littlefoot will love racing through the Great Valley on a specially made Leaf Racer!
Place Littlefoot on the leaf, pull the vehicle back and watch him go!  Created for children
three and up, the Leaf Racer comes with a Littlefoot figure, works with all other basic
figures.

Bean Bag Plush
Playmates Toys completes their assortment of bean bag plush core characters with the
addition of Spike and Petrie.  Created for tiny tikes 18 months and over, each
squeezable 6-7" plush.

Large Plush
Brand new for Spring, Playmates Toys will also be offering a 12" Ducky plush.  Soft and
huggable, Ducky is a perfect pal for children 18 months and over.

Now, I know that Pull Back Leaf Racer Littlefoot existed, but where is Petrie and Spike? Were they canceled and never released or are they just hard to find?

You can check out the website for yourselves here

The positive is this video is actually how I found this forum! I didn't quite agree with most of the takes though. I think some of the films deserve a little more credit where due but good points were made too. It feels more 'personal opinion and tastes' than proper review. And nostalgia might just be getting to me. (Still, seven so low? I cry). I've always wanted to do movie reviews and a series of Land Before Time sequels would be on the list should I ever get to it. Maybe when I move.

Welcome to the forum sordessie ;)

If anything it's a good thing that this video helped people find our community.

Yeah, some of Jenny's takes are pretty poor in my own opinion. I don't know what on Earth she is talking about with LBT 1 having no themes or lessons, or about the dinosaurs being "ugly" because they have detailed wrinkles and muted colors. Also, VII below XI? Engage me in fisticuffs, Jenny Nicholson.

Also, every time Jenny says "Brontosaurus", I just think of this.

You could make the case for Littlefoot and his species being brontos, as that taxa is now coming back into use among the apatosaurus name, but Doc? Doc is a diplodocus, as his name suggests.

She also called Mo a swimming dinosaur and Petrie a flying dinosaur. I'm not gonna judge her on this, since paleontology is probably not one of her areas of interest. I did cringe every time she said something like this, but hey, the video was about the quality of the movies plot and character wise, not about the species of each character.

If you're reading this Jenny, Ducky is a Saurolophus, not a Parasaurolophus, Mo is an Ichtyosaur, a swimming reptile that looks like a dolphin (not related to dinosaurs at all), and Petrie is a Pterosaur, a flying reptile that is also not related to dinosaurs. There were many species of longnecked dinosaurs, they're called sauropods. Littlefoot's design is a mesh between an Apatosaurus and a Camarasaurus. But sure, Brontosaurus was very closely related to Apatosaurus, so the confusion here is acceptable. As for Doc, he's a Diplodocus.

“Go Jenny! Go! Go! “

It is ambitious to review all 14 Films. Good for her.

True. I've been thinking about doing it in my blog for years but never managed to get around to do it. I thought about doing it during lockdown but eventhough I've rewatched all 14 movies and TV series in March and April I feel to close to the franchise to be objective.

I stumbled upon a Youtube video where a youtuber called Jenny Nicholson reviews all 14 TLBT movies. I didn't agree with mostly of what she said (she ranked TLBT IV at number 11 WHAT?!), but overall it's a cool video to watch and it's interesting to see the opinion of someone who didn't grow up with the franchise.

Here's the link for you guys to watch and leave your thoughts. She gives a shout out to this forum several times throughout the video, if you're reading this Jenny welcome to the great valley ;)

One of my hobbies is toy collecting and after this thread, I've decided to collect the Playmates 2007 TLBT action figure line. I've managed to track down Ducky, Cera and Ruby's set on eBay, but I'm having a hard time finding Littlefoot and Chomper.

Do any of you know where I could buy them? There are a couple on eBay but they're incomplete.

eBay is the only source I know of for these toys at this point. I never was able to get a complete set of figures, either (fellow toy collector here), so I had to settle on buying a pre-owned set that left out Cera and didn't include any of the accessories. (Too bad, I sure wish I had that Earthshake Mountain!)
Sorry, I wish these were easier to find, too. :lfsadface

Spike and Petrie seem to get the shaft! And Petrie is one of my favorite characters.  :opetrie
Same here! Petrie is such a fun character, how could they just leave him out? :(petrie I've paired the Wendy's Petrie figure that flaps his wings with my Playmates figures, because a Petrie-less Gang is not acceptable!

The Earthshake Mountain set is in stock at an italian store on eBay. It's a bit expensive but they have two and they're new. They're selling Cera as well.

I had an offer to purchase Littlefoot MIB on facebook, but they were asking €80 and the user was a bit shady.

If any of you guys are thinking about selling Chomper or Littlefoot let me know!
