You got some nice water to wash down that chicken with.
So what do you think? Yay! Nay! Why the hell did you change it? :p
(board hasn't had a design change in nearly two years)
-
Well-done on the changes Petrie! Glad I could help out with the piccy supply. :D
Generally I love the colour scheme! The only slight problem I'm having is that the light-blue text on the forum pages (not reading posts, as that text is white) is occasionally difficult to see against the light-green/white shades on the ferns on the right-hand side of the background image.
As for what to do about it...I'll plug away at it in Photoshop and see if I can resolve it. Other than that, I'm very impressed! B)
-
GAH! Why fix it if it isn't broke!?!?!?
I don't get it. I know change is good, but why was the scheme changed in the first place? I liked it the way it was.
-
I don't really mind the change.

I don't forsee the board going to hell because five images were changed and the text colors were modified (very slightly). It was time for a breath of fresh air; we've had that design for a very very long time now and I felt it was stale and time for something different.
-
I don't disagree that change is good. In fact, this is probably why I change my desktop picture as often as I do. However, I have noticed a few missing pictures that makes the board seem... incomplete somehow, like some of the borders. Are there any future plans to place them back? Is this what action9000 talking about,
-
The pine holly? Yeah, I accidentally removed it, but that's not what he was talking about. That's the only image that isn't here. All the "add reply" type buttons were replaced and the background, but everything else is as it has been for years. I wasn't going to change everything; many things are still good and fine as they are.
-
Aww... I liked the background picture of Littlefoot gazing out "beyond the mysterious beyond." It fitted the theme somehow....
-
Nice new scheme, Petrie. :D
-
i like it, nicely done Petrie
-
Change is good, and I welcome it. :)
-
Hmm, interesting change, though it will take some getting used to. :^.^:
-
Nice! I like it!
-
I actually like this change...it makes me think of Littlefoot's mother when she spoke to him from....well where ever dinosaurs go when they pass away
-
Well, I hate to say it, but this skin is rather...distracting. Couldn't you give members a choice between skins or perhaps even allow them to add their own? It sorta hurts my eyes. I genuinely like the background pic, but I just don't think it works too well for a background on a message board. <_<

Now there's something I've never seen suggested before.
-
is that sarcasm? XD I've heard that before

You asking me?

It's good. I like it. :)

That would be a cool idea. Hmm...
-
It doesn't matter if I offer choices or not. Everyone is always going to have an opinion on an ideal board design. I'm not going to please everyone in the end because some are bound to say one thing, some are going to say another, so in the end, someone is always going to say its not perfect while others say they like the change.
At the moment, many have stated they support this design, and I was not going to go out and create something which would hamper our ability to continue to read and post messages without being too distracting, hence a dark picture (made darker, the original capture is much brighter). So far it would seem the majority support the change to this, and that's good in my eyes.
:^.^:

Will you at least give us the option of the old or new scheme Petire? Ya don't have to create anything else.
BTW, I got off my crap laptop and viewed this site on my real computer, and I just gotta say, great job Petire! It looked like crap on my laptop though. Probably my 800X600 resolution.
To sum it up, I love it now that I'm off that laptop. I changed my mind! :^.^:
I do however get on my laptop quite often, so I would love to have the option of switching between schemes. Is there any way you could do that Petrie?

No.

I designed it with higher resolution monitors in mind, and the default these days even in libraries is 1024x768. It'll vary with monitors too since some people like theirs brighter than others (I have mine maxed out).

Well...
I'm not quite convinced of the necessity of this step. Personally I think that we fared really well with the previous background image. Even though you definitely made sure to pick an image which wouldn't be a distracting background during the reading of posts I still think it is more so than the previous was.
I see where you are coming from when saying that we had the previous image for a long time I'm not quite sure that really was a reason to take the trouble for a different image which might turn out to be not quite as suitable as the previous one. Perhaps it is the same as with the land before time in general. While some changes are very important to keep the land before time interesting other changes are not really necessary or worse. Anyway.

Wow, big middle-of-the-road answer Malte. :P: The text colors and "add reply" button things were changed as well.
-
It looks nice! I like it! :^.^: :DD
-
I actually like the reply buttons better than the prior ones. Those old ones just looked a little odd the first minute I saw them as a guest. However... I still prefer the older background image over this one. The main thing, though, is that there is a certain empty feeling with some of the areas. This, I suppose, is mainly caused by the absence of the borders.
EDIT: The background image is missing. action9000, did you have anything to do with this?
-
Hi,
I made some changes to the background image. I took a new screenshot (from the DVD instead of an AVI rip). I photoshopped The grassy area on the right-hand side to make it darker and easier to read test through and also balanced the brightness and contrast to create a more subtle background effect.
I'm only on my temporary computer (with...not the best monitor) at the moment so I hope it looks as nice on everyone else's computer as it does on mine.
What do you think of the changes?
-
I WAS RIGHT! The guilty party has came forth! :lol Actually, I do notice a visible improvement over the prior image. I mean, really, an AVI rip!? Now, all I suppose is missing are the borders.
-

Yeah...I broke something for a moment... :lol
Now, all I suppose is missing are the borders.
Oh right, you folks on the newer browsers (IE7) don't see the default borders. I'll get working on that asap. B)
-
One thing I do notice about this background, is it makes me dizzy when I scroll really fast. Must be some sorta effect of the grass or something.
-
I rather like it.
-
Nice modification Tim. :) I wouldn't worry about borders; its fine as it is.
-
Well it's a bit of an improvement, no complains from me so far.
-
While I wasn't here when the back ground changed, I will say, when I first joined here, the color background did depress me a bit. It was such a huge difference between Tropicalia's forum with her bright colored skins and then join here. :P:
Funny, I actually do like dark stuff, but still, that's just how I felt. *shrugs*
-
Speaking of which, it's coming up on a year anniversary of this new background and theme. 3 days until a year has passed. Perhaps it's time to spice stuff up again? We have gotten tons of new members since August of 2007. :yes
-
I've no interest in mucking with board schemes this year. We're probably good for another year with this one. :p
Rat-lady, the GOF won't have a bright scheme. I'm not fond of them, and when you go through and read many messages on a bright board, your eyes will hurt after some time.
-
The current one looks ok. I prefer dark backgrounds myself, likely because my eyes are so light sensitive. I do like the background the few times I've seen it, usually I keep my monitor settings fairly low so the background looks almost black.

That's okay. :)
-
Well, I really do think that the bright green standard username color really clashes with the rest of the theme. The admin one does as well, but not too much. I think you should change the member colors to that dark blue you chose for banned members (except maybe a few shades lighter) and you should make the admin color a little darker red. Have the green for banned members. We hardly ever see banned members so the color of their text doesn't really matter. I'm not saying that our member names should totally blend in with the background, but they are a bit annoying to me anyways because of their bright colors.
-
I'll see what I can do but no guarantees on that one. They need to be readable you know.
-
Well, I'm not talking about anything drastic, but some minor color change would make it better I think.
-
I actually think the green is quite okay. I do understand the red though, it's sometimes hard to read. But I identify members by their avatar anyway :p.
-
But I identify members by their avatar anyway
You must have a heck of a time with me then. I change my avatar a lot more frequently than most here on GOF.
-
More people do, but no not really. When I dont recognise an avatar I just look at the name once and I remember it. It's not that bad.
-
I look for my posts by my signature not by my name.
-

You have an easily identifiable avatar style though. Usually anyway.

Really? In what way?
-
Most of the time it includes Cera or Littlefoot. And you have an invisable background, also in 'your style' :^.^:

I agree. Sometimes you put that Japanese phrase in them.
-
Well hey. I never thought of it like that. I guess I was thinking too hard. I though you meant I went with a certain color scheme or something. :^.^:

Well, I use a different symbol each time but I don't really expect anyone to notice because they're so tiny. I can barely tell the difference between them when they're that small. :p
