Title: I have a new website
Post by: F-14 Ace on May 01, 2006, 11:37:38 PM
I don't know if I should e advertising like this or not.  Moderators, please don't get angry at me.  Anyway,   I made a Yahoo! group based on my animal rpg. I am looking for new members so if anyone wants to join, just check out the link below. Note: if you want to join, it requires a Yahoo! ID so in order to join, you have to get one if you don't have one already. They're free. Also, you have to say that you are over 18 to join.   I know some of us are usy and have other boards to post on so I don't expect those people to join.  If they did, I'd be greatful but it would be too much for the to keep track of ayway.  I am just looking for members because now, I have none.

Nope not mad.  Just don't repeatedly post this all over the board.  Once is enough.  :)

If you want to get creative, put it in your signature.  ;)

I'm glad you like it.  I really need someone to join though.  I put a lot of work into it to just have it sit there and nobody join.  I don't exactly know how to advertise about it but I really hope someone joins soon.

Well, I had a Star Wars site too.  I deleted it last week because I made it before Christmas and it never got any members.  I don't want the same to happen to this site.  Especially since I put some work into it.

I need to know how to attract members.  I have no idea how to do that.  How do I advertise?

Did you set it so that you can respond/send PM's for the specific member group?

That's the sure fire path to failure.  You can't just wait and hope people join.  Give them a reason to join...start topics, make it like the place is alive and bustling, and your chances for success are that much better rather than waiting for someone to come along and do that for you.  They probably won't.

Extreme patience.  You have no idea how long it took for the GOF to finally go anywhere....maybe Malte can help me out here....I think it was months before any real activity started happening.  The biggest problem was that people had no idea the place existed for the longest time.  I started putting the link in my siggy at the N54 forum, and that's basically what got me the break.  Next, search engines are your friend.  Submit your site to them so they index it.  https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=s...om/free/request (https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=srch&.done=http%3A//submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request)

Those two things is basically what helped get the GOF where it is just because people knew it existed and checked it out.

If it was *just* a Star Wars site, you pretty much were pitting yourself against much more established communities offering the same thing.  You need to find a niche in cyberspace.  A general-all around board usually will not survive because it is too broad.  The exception to the rule is when there are no boards about the topic in the first place and you're the only one; don't put much faith in that if its based on Star Wars...that is one popular franchise, and I can guarantee just about every avenue has been covered with that series time and time again.

Read what I said above.  Make sure its unique in some way for one thing, then submit to search engines, and find other places with members who might show interest in the topic and spread the word.  No guarantees.  Even established places can fall apart really fast.  Malte probably will remember one of the first boards I ran....Dinosaur Dominion on cheezyboard....two years, everything looked fine, and it crashed.  :cry2  Warring members made certain of that.

I have a rule against that on THOTA its to make sure it doesnt happen to often. (too often resaults in temporary ban. if still exsistant perminant ban)

oh I got some topics up now but theres still three areas that dont have topics yet but dont worry I'll get thoughs up soon too. ;)

thanks again roger

I asked a my first member to be a mod but he turned the offer down said he didnt have enough time on the computer for such a task. so I asked my friend tankbuster88 on the phone if wanted the job he turned the offer down aswell.

I already know that you must trust a member before giving them such a honor and thats what Im doing so dont worry I'll get a mod some time or another.

There is a Fox MacCoy here as well, and he hasn't really said anything the past few months, so I'm not surprised he turned it down.  Probably just a busy kid.

Huh, how does he fit into the context of this thread Roger? Fox is one of the very, very few representatives of the kind "LBT fan from Germany". I regret he has fallen silent months ago, just like all the other land before time fans from over here I ever got to know.

^ You might want to change some colors, away from the default white if you know how to do that.  ;)

F-14, I'm aware of that, but one sentence replies don't leave me much to work with.....

Titanosaur, because I'm such a nice person I went and registered a Yahoo account so I can chat with you in real time.  Its a complicated process to change board settings.

I have made a better version of my website on Proboards.  It is still being worked on but it is better organized than the other one on Yahoo.  Eventually, I will delet the one on Yahoo since I have a better one.  I just need to finish transfering the files and information.  The new one still has the same name as the one I started on here.

Kind of out of place don't you think, for a wildlife board.

Submit your board to search engines and advertisements will help.  :yes

Well, it is because I made a place for rps other than animals on there.  Kinda like the randon rps we have on this site.  My site isn't a yahoo site anymore.  It is on a proboards forum now.

Oh no, I knew you had moved to proboards so you didn't have to stick with one topic.  Just seemed sort of odd.  Instead of having separate sections for Big Cats, Dinosaurs, etc. just make one Misc section...splitting things up like this actually hurts you (makes the board look more empty if replies don't occur in some sections).

It'd be pretty disorganized if I split all the misc rp's here into separate sections.  ;)

thats why I had to delete all thoughs forums that Godzilla13 made it was getting outa hand. I fixed it of cource I'm not mad at him though. he just got a little outa hand.

I just had to get him to realise its an Alien site no more no less. (I have sections for off topic stuff like that)

BTW F-14 is the site address for your site the same on your Sig???

Also, it might help to realize it took more than a year for the GOF to get anywhere.  You'll need a ton of patience with a start up board.  Make sure you use that Yahoo link I gave you...you need those search engines to find your board.

another reason I put the site address in my signature when I join a forum. (no I'm not joining every forum I find. I don't have the intention nor the time for such horse play) perticuly AvP Forums. (seeing is how its a Alien forum)

I now have an even newer website.  This one is about fighter pilots.  I think some people will find this one more appealing than the other one.  I already have 4 members.  Just that someone got confused and thought it was about WWII.  It is about modern day pilots. Also, there are no skins because I am still working on the site.

I have turned Fighter Squadrons into an Ace Combat rpg site.  It is now called Ace Combat: Realm of Aces.  I think it is hard to have a fighter pilot rpg in a real world setting because the planes carry such a small number of ammo and because in real life, you can's fly airplanes like the Mig-29 or Ef-2000 if you are an American pilot but in Ace Combat, most countries use all those cool planes.  Plus in Ace Combat, you can do outrageous things like singlehandedly take out a superweapon or shoot down a whole squadron of enemy aces.

Your members must go on vacation often if they are not replying to any of your threads.  That's a shame.  I wonder if they're just not that interested in the game or just are not big message board users.  It's almost like most of the members came for five posts and left....hmm...is this a really popular game or is it a niche game that only so many people will enjoy?
