A hidden treasure in my reckoning is Dynamite Headdy for Megadrive (Genesis). You play a puppet with a launchable head who happened to be the star of a show. A vibrant, colourful platformer that did work really well but sadly fell on deaf ears as the rage of the PS1 and N64 came to light. Some may have heard of it, and it was released on the Wii's Virtual Console a couple of months ago, but only those deeply into the platforming scene really took notice of it. And how irritatingly HARD the later levels got. I loved the way the stage names were all mickey-take of REAL movies. Toyz in the Hood, Terminate Her Too!, Stair Wars... :lol A great piece of gaming history I think was robbed of the limelight it deserved :^.^:
I bought that one too. It's a platforming gem.

Come to think of it, I've loved every Treasure game I've ever played. Dynamite Headdy, Sin + Punishment, Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Mischief Makers. All of them were awesome.

Region 1 - North America

Region 2 - Europe, Japan, Egypt, Arabia, South Africa

Region 3 - South-east Asia

Region 4 - Central + South America, Australia, New Zealand

Region 5 - India, Russia, Africa, former USSR countries

Region 6 - China

Region 7 - unused

Region 8 - Airlines, cruise ships

Region 9 - spare

General Land Before Time / which character weighs more?

It's odd how Littlefoot is supposed to be the biggest, and that Littlefoot was, in fact, born earlier than Spike, but that the general consensus is that Spike weighs more.
Spike eats more, so maybe he grows faster.

I am pretty sure there is no such episode as Return of the Egg Stealers.

I have to say, the design of Galaxy is inspired. The hopping between mini-planets makes this the first truly 3-D platform game.

Having got almost the whole way though Galaxy, I have to say it contains 2 of the greatest moments I've ever seen:

The flying scenes in Melty Molten Galaxy. Flying out of an exploding volcano, and across the lava fields is amazing to watch.

BUT, even better:

Ice Mario wall jumping between two waterfalls.

Oh. My. God.

If that is the monster from the movie, I don't think it's very original. It's very similar to the Sin monster from Final Fantasy X:

Sorry I couldn't find better screenshots for comparison, but I'm sure you understand the difficulties of typing "Sin" into a search engine. :lol
I can't see too much resemblance with those pictures to be honest. But I would not be surprised if, when the official design is revealed, someone is going to say it is not original and start comparing it with another creature.
The thing the pictures don't bring across well is that Sin has 2 different forms. To me, the Cloverfield monster looks like a mix of both.

Although, I do admit that it could just be that any pair of giant whale monsters are going to look similar.

Of course (with Google, anyway), you can sort your rearch results to include only images. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that other search engines have a similar capability.
That's what I did. Even with "Final Fantasy X" added to the keywords, the images are still mostly...the other thing.

Sorry, but "it's a coincidence" doesn't cut it with me. If the rumours about Metroid Dread have been around for 2 years, saying that Retro didn't know and named an unused MP3 element "Project Dread" by sheer chance is too unlikely for me to believe. The "it's nothing to do with us" argument sounds like a standard "we know about it, but we're sworn to secrecy" response. Nintendo are well known for keeping their in-development projects tightly under wraps.

EDIT: Just to clarify, what I mean by "standard response" is that Nintendo have a history of putting references in games and then denying everything in public.

Metroid Dread is a game which has been rumoured to be in production for 2 years, but the rumours have neither been confirmed or disproven. Retro Studios, who make the Prime games, deny having anything to do with it, but in MP3, one of the computer screens on the Pirate Homeworld comes up as "Metroid project Dread approaching completion" if you scan it (it's in the Research Facility area of the Pirate Homeworld, in the room where you let the metroids out, on the upper level by one of the doors).

I thought MP3 was an awesome game. I had very high expectations of it and there was very little that disappointed me. I liked many of the new features, especially the Grapple Lasso, welding torch and the power-up locator. The time limit on the final stage was an interesting touch too.

There were only a few things I didn't like. It was definitely not fair to have the Phaazoids able to shoot through solid objects like walls.

Now that I think about it, the corrupted Aurora Unit boss was probably a homage to Mother Brain.

So, all that's left is to hope Metroid Dread isn't too long until release.

Silver Screen / What are your favorite animes?
« on: October 27, 2007, 03:02:03 AM »
It's hard for me to pick just a few anime as my favourites, but I supposed I'd go with:

Gankutsuo - The Count of Monte Cristo
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
Fullmetal Alchemist
Nerima Daikon Brothers
Ouran High-School Host Club
Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex

Any delay is bad news for me. Given that some of the big Wii games (Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3) aren't reaching this side of the atlantic for literally months after their american releases, Brawl might not be out here until next summer.

Seems pretty unoriginal. Reminds me a lot of Street Sharks.
