Title: Dinosaur Revolution
Post by: The Chronicler on September 05, 2011, 08:00:13 PM
I really wish I had known about this sooner so I tell you all about it. Last night, I watched a new show on the Discovery Channel called "Dinosaur Revolution", which basically talks about dinosaurs in ways that we have only in recent years found out about. All the recent evidence shows that dinosaurs were much more successful than we once thought.

I really like the stories portrayed in the episodes of this show. There was even some humor in these stories, which I found pleasantly surprising. :lol  I'll be honest, I think these stories could even be a good inspiration for some LBT fanfics.

Anyway, did anyone happen to see this? If not, there will be another two episodes on next Sunday at 9 and 10 p.m., so you still have a chance to see this, even though it won't be the first two episodes.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch it. I don't get the TV to myself much anymore. And nobody else here is interested in dinosaur programs, so I doubt I can convince anyone to let me watch it. So I'm better off either waiting for the eps to appear online, or just buying the DVD set.

Lucky for me I can watch it tonight. And looking forward to it.

I'll check it out. Sounds kind of like the show 'Walking with Dinosaurs' that was on a few years back.

I managed to watch the first episode, passed out before the 2nd on showed. That fight between the mother Mosasaur and the sharks was brutal. She didn't give them a chance. I thought it was funny when the mosquitos were attacking the male Cryolophosaurus and he ran into the family of Glacialisaurus and scared the one male.
Title: Dinosaur Revolution
Post by: DarkHououmon on September 07, 2011, 01:18:48 PM
I did see a scene of cryolophosaurus. It was a fight between a relatively small blue male and a larger red male. I was surprised that the larger male ripped off the crest of the weaker male. I had expected him to kill the smaller guy.

Post by: Justin1993 on September 07, 2011, 01:29:14 PM
Well, the crest was for display to get a mate. Taking away his crest was a worse fate than death. After that, he would have little to no chance of ever getting a mate. Alone until death.

Well that's nature for you. It can be downright brutal.

That should deliver a pretty clear message to any creature nearby. Nobody messes with a mother mosasaur and her babies.

It's also on the Discovery Channel. I did a little bit searching around and it looks like there will only be 4 episodes. Also, I found the main site for this show on discovery.com, where you can watch video clips of the two episodes that have already aired.

http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/dinosaur-revolution/ (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/dinosaur-revolution/)

I haven't seen any of the videos yet, but I figure I don't need to since I've already the show on TV.

It reminds me of the Jurassic Fight Club episode where a male Majungasaurus wanted to mate with a female but she wouldn't because she already had an infant. So he killed it, thinking he would get to mate. He ended up with a broken neck and, to add insult to injury, she ate him. While he was still alive.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the other two episodes of this show. They're supposed to be on tomorrow, but I just checked the TV schedule on discovery.com, and it seems they're planning to instead show some reruns of something different. <_<  I really hope they go back to the original schedule because I don't get the science channel. My only other option would be to by the DVD on discovery.com, which doesn't ship until November. (though it would be a nice birthday gift for me)

I said the last two episodes. They're airing on the Science channel before Discovery. I don't know why.
Edit: They have no plans to air the last two episodes on Discovery. They didn't show them Sunday due to the date, September 11th.

Yeah, it sucks that those two episodes won't be shown on Discovery, especially because I don't get the Science Channel. <_<

Anyway, thanks for those links, DarkHououmon. That finally gives me hope that I'll be able to watch those two episodes at least somewhere online. :yes

I liked the last two episodes. Especially End Game. The fight between the pair of T-rex and the lone T-rex was executed well. A not so happy ending for the loner though.

I also loved the last two episodes of the show. They where really well made. I liked the fight parts a lot.

I've been checking DH's link every day this week to see if the last two episodes would ever be available online. Today is the first time I saw links to watch the fourth episode. There are currently none for the third episode, but I hope that will change by Saturday, when I will finally have a chance to actually watch these videos.

I'm looking forward to the episode's if they make any.

Post by: The Chronicler on September 17, 2011, 10:10:12 PM
Okay, now this really sucks! :anger  I've tried both available video sites to watch episode 4 from DH's link, but both of them won't play because I've "already spent all 72 free minutes", and to try again, I'll need to subscribe (with pay). <_<  I think I'd prefer to wait until these episodes are uploaded on YouTube.

Speaking of YouTube, I've found that the first two episodes were uploaded by multiple people earlier this week. That gives me hope that the other two will be uploaded by at least one person within a week. I just can't believe I'm going through all this trouble just to watch something I could have seen if not for 9/11. -_-

I think I'll try to calm myself down by watching the episodes that are already on YouTube:

Episode 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUl-nFK-x4w&feature=related)
Episode 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFWC8Xk8GkQ&feature=related)

Have you yet to watch it? Well, if you haven't, it's your lucky day! I just watched the episode here (http://eztvstream.com/dinosaur-revolution/dinosaur-revolution-season-1-episode-4-end-game). I've been searching all week and finally found one Enjoy  :D

Thank you very much! :D  Finally, I was able to watch the entire video without any problems (except having to pause frequently to let the video buffer, but I was okay with that). I really liked this episode, especially the part at the end about "the last dinosaur".

Now all that's left is to wait until someone uploads the third episode on YouTube or somewhere else. I'll honestly be surprised if I don't see it within a week.

Are they making any brand new episodes Justin?

No, Petrie85, this show will have just those four episodes.

I recently searched on YouTube and I still can't find a video of episode 3 (or episode 4). There's always buying the DVD, but I'll save that as a last resort.

It's crazy. The episode is no where to be found, except for on TV.
It's not on YouTube or any other video sites and no one has it for download. I've been searching but to no avail :(
I found one file, but it was removed  :(
I may try and catch another airing and record it for you. If it ever shows again.

In my opinion, the story with the old Protoceratops is the only good one. The others contain too much bloody slapstick.

There is another show called Planet Dinosaur on BBC, which is more scientific.

There were originally going to be 37 episodes! Unfortunately, they didn't get enough of it finished in time so they only came up with 6 episodes. The last two episodes are not being shown for unknown reasons.

The version we got on TV is the butchered version. The original had no narration, no random talking bits, or anything like that. It was supposed to be a immersive experience where you would feel for the characters, that was the goal. They didn't want the dinosaurs to be portrayed as emotionless monsters instead as animals that have feelings. Scenes had to be cut in order to put the talking people in, and I heard those scenes were going to be great so that also butchers the story. Discovery really killed this show, it's so sad.

Darn you Discovery Channel for destroying a very good show. And I hear you they shouldn't have tampered with the show. They should have kept it the way it was so everyone could enjoy it. But I'm sure they butchered it because younger people watched it and they didn't want to make it to graphic violent for the younger people watching the show. Yeah so they made it a sorta of a kind a kid friendly version of the show in a way. I'm sure the real version was gonna have a lot more blood and so on. And show us how ruthless they really where. Kinda witch they didn't. But hopefully maybe one day it will be back on. But doubt it.

Episode 3 (http://www.tv-links.eu/tv-shows/Dinosaur-Revolution_27088/season_1/episode_3/)
Those two links are for the video sites I had problems with earlier. ("You have used up your 72 free minutes, please subscribe with pay to watch more") However, today I've been able to take advantage of the fact that, despite the fact that I'm using the same laptop, I'm at a different location (my college dorm room). This time, I was not going to let this opportunity get away from me. Due to my concerns about having a slightly slower connection, I decided to wait until the entire video had buffered, which took about 15-20 minutes. The video itself is 42 and a half minutes, so as long as I didn't pause the video, I would have enough time to watch the whole thing. Now, all I can say is, "Yes! Finally!" The only downside is that I'll never be able to watch it again (unless someone puts it on YouTube). For this reason, I'm still going to buy the DVD when it starts shipping next month. Okay, now that I've got all of that techno mumbo-jumbo out of the way, I can finally comment on this episode.

Okay, let's see if I can remember all of the segments of this episode: First was Utah-raptors chasing a herd of Sauropods, then a bird-like raptor that escapes two baby Mahjungasauruses who get eaten by giant frogs, then we see some of the mammals that were around at this time including something like a flying squirrel, then a Sauropod eats some bad mushrooms that basically make him feel drunk while he is attacked by two predators, then an orphaned Protoceratops follows an old male to find a new herd, and finally a young Pterosaur learns how to fly. Sorry if I sound like I'm giving away the whole thing, but like I said, I don't think I'll be seeing it again for a while, so I need to find some way to remind myself about what I saw. -_-

I really liked this series, and I'm very glad that I've now been able to watch all four episodes. :)

Looking back, I think I might have obsessed over this show a little too much. :oops  I've reconsidered buying the DVD. The important thing is that I've seen each episode at least once, and that's enough for me. Besides, I just searched on YouTube and it looks like a lot of the videos I saw a few weeks ago (including the ones I had linked to in this topic) seem to have been removed. Oh well.

It's a shame they destroyed this show. It was a great show that they really butchered badly. The episode's I did like where very good and had good information about the dinosaur class and personality. It was made very well I liked how it had some humor in it. And some dinosaur's where  really stupid and clumsy. I hoped that they would have made more episodes than six

Maybe you should read a few articles before you go and bad mouth the producers. It was only going to be 6 hours, which would have meant two additional episodes and it was going to be named Reign of the Dinosaurs.
"Each episode was to be followed by one of a companion series, called Science of: Reign of the Dinosaurs, which would feature scientists explaining the basis for the preceding story, and pointing out which parts were speculative or imaginary."
Due to budget cuts, they could only finish 4 episodes. And the network changed their marketing strategy, causing several other changes including the addition of talking heads. There were never going to be more than 6 episodes. And several scenarios were swapped out in favor of another.
They didn't "butcher" it intentionally, as you are making it sound. They did not "buthcer" it for a younger target audience. And it was not meant to be a gore fest. It was simply meant to change our views of dinosaurs as lumbering animals to animals with personalities.

Anyways, I already preordered the DVD.

I knew I remembered making a topic about this miniseries back in the day.

Just over a week ago, the Science Channel (which unlike back when I made this topic, I now have full access to) did a rerun of all four episodes in one afternoon. Unfortunately, I had other things to do that day, but I was able to record them, and it was only today that I finally got a chance to watch them. Even after all this time, I still very much loved watching this miniseries again (and in hindsight, I really wish that I had bought that DVD set (no idea if it's even still available)).

Anyway, seeing how the fanfiction section on this site has been quite active in recent years, I would actually highly recommend that any fellow members who have not yet seen this miniseries should consider watching it (though I'm honestly not sure if any of those four episodes are even available to watch anywhere online, because like I said, I only watched a TV recording from last week (though a quick search I just did on YouTube does look a little promising, but I don't have time right now to be sure)). Personally, I'd like to see someone try to write an LBT fanfic inspired by the events portrayed in episode 2 "The Watering Hole".
