Role Play Discussion / Shattered Skies over Toonworld
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:05:51 PM »
This idea festered in my head for a few days, so I decided to lay it down on the table to see if anyone's interested.

It's mostly a pilot-type story line, though you could have non-pilots in the RP.  The setting is 2020 AD, and at this time most fights are between private companies & mercenaries rather than just nations.  Some examples of such groups, that we could use:

Private Military Contractors
LexCorp (Superman)
Xanatos Enterprises (Gargoyles)
Khan Industries (TaleSpin)
Cyberbiotics Corp (Gargoyles)
The Flying Legion (Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow)

Criminal/Terrorist Organizations
Hydra (Captain America)
Cobra (G.I. Joe)
Air Pirates (TaleSpin)
Skull Squadron (Ring Raiders)
Quarrymen (Gargoyles)
Red Claw (Batman)
Kabai Sang Pirates (The Phantom)

Volunteer Defense Groups
S.H.I.E.L.D. (The Avengers)
Ring Raiders (Ring Raiders)
G.I. Joes (G.I. Joe)

ANY planes are allowed:  Active, retired, in development, cancelled, & fictional.
Any characters (FC & OC) are allowed, and you can have as many as you can handle.

Once we get enough RPer's interested, we can make plans as to how and where to start the story...

Intrigued...?

Random Role Play / The Rift
« on: December 23, 2012, 10:52:48 PM »
"The last thing I could remember was when the night sky was lit so brightly by the Aurora Borealis, which was unusual, even in Nome.  There were rumors it was even been seen far south, where it has never gone before.  I was with my family, watching as the unthinkable happened...  The sky itself cracked open like broken glass...  Family...  Jenna...!  JENNA!!"

Balto's eyes popped open and his head was up in a flash, his heart racing.  How long was he out?  He starting looking around to answer the second, more worrying question.  But as he scanned his surroundings, he came to the third question...  "Where am I?"  The snowy mountainous landscape was unfamiliar to him.  Dark and foreboding...

A sudden but light sneeze not far from him attracted his attention to a small mound of snow.  A shivering mound of snow.  Maybe...  Balto had little trouble getting to his feet and walked over, but as he neared the thing, he knew right away it was too small to be Jenna.  But, he might as well check anyway.  He stood next to it and began brushing the snow away from the creature with his paw, and his eyes widened with surprise...

The little creature, curled up tightly to stay warm, was hairless and long-necked, almost like a strange reptile.  He had never seen something like this in his entire life, and was momentarily unsure what to do next.  But a closer look showed the critter is young, like a cub, and is practically immobile & and freezing to death...

Snow began to fall around them, and Balto searched around to see a nearby mountain, with a slab of hard rock sticking out of its base.  The wolf-dog did not hesitate to gently lift the creature onto his back and carried it to the shelter.  Once placed back down out of the snow, it curled up again and shivered, even sniffled.  Balto curled up around him, hopeful to keep it warm as they would have to wait out the snow...

Role Play Discussion / The Rift RP Discussion
« on: October 09, 2012, 03:01:16 AM »
Since we got 4 folks (including myself) for the Rift in the polls, I'm putting up it's own thread here.

As said, the story takes place when the Northern Lights extend across the world at different time eras, then the last thing seen was a glowing deep red crack in the sky.  All characters of the story find themselves across a vast landscape of jagged mountain ranges with valleys full of dense forests.  And in the far horizon, stands the massive red crack in the sky, pulsating with dread.

For characters, you're free to pick any hero and/or villain from movies done by Don Bluth or from Universal Studios.  We can do discussions concerning other movies that Don Bluth may had a hand in (like certain Disney films).  Here's the list (and it can be changed):

The Land Before Time
All Dogs Go to Heaven
Secret of NIMH
Thumbelina
Rock-A-Doodle
An American Tail
We're Back
Ferngully:  The Last Rainforest
Once Upon a Forest
The Pagemaster
Banjo the Woodpile Cat
Balto
A Troll in Central Park
Anastasia
Titan A.E. (limit the space technology)
The Pebble & the Penguin

For the Rift Fey, here are some common rules:

- They can be male or female
- They are all small (same size as Thumbelina)
- They all have 4 dragonfly-like wings
- They are not powerful in magic, and it's normally enchantments (small space around them, small shields over self, invisibility & camouflage, and one other individual).  They cannot use magic to attack others (but they can manipulate small areas to contain them).
- They cannot live long outside "the World Between" (the realm in the Rift), measured no more than a month or so

Other than that, you're free to pick or make your characters!  We have plenty of time before we set a start date.

Role Play Discussion / Fan-Based RP Poll
« on: September 23, 2012, 06:19:37 AM »
This time, I'm looking if anyone's interested in any of these ideas:

Resident Evil:  Atonement = Here, the story focuses on a group of rogue members of Umbrella Corporation setting out to prevent the destruction of humanity and cleanse out the corrupt bureaucrats that are trying to capitalize on the crisis.  We can discuss when and where the setting could take place.

Talespin = General world of Disney's Talespin, FC's & OC's.

The Rift = An adventure story featuring many characters from Don Bluth & Universal Studios films, thrust into a dimensional warp sparked by a "crack" in the sky.  Mostly FC's, but we can make OC's of a species called "Rift Fey" (backstory coming later).

Star Wars:  Fleet Wars = Set during the war between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, BUT, focus will be set on the opposing fleets.  Besides some Force-users, our characters can be starship commanders & crew, and plenty of pilots.  We can decide if we can all choose one side or the other, or both.

G.I.Joe:  Wrath of the Scorpion = Similar style, but some changes.  G.I.Joe itself would be renamed United Nations Special Operations, to allow non-American heroes in the story.  Plus, a third rival faction will rise to destroy Cobra and conquer the world.  We can decide what series we can base it on.

Role Play Discussion / Dragon Riders RP
« on: August 16, 2012, 07:12:57 AM »
I think I was too generic with the last idea.  Here's one with more meat...

Earth 2070 AD.  With the growing shortage of ores, many leading nations resorted to solutions of genetic experimentation.  Most of NATO, and later Russia, China, & Japan, came up with one common answer...dragons.  At the same time, astrologers discovered a moon-sized planet on a course to cross Earth's pass, which put the planet on high alert for a potential collision.  But scientists proved against a cataclysmic collision to put the public at ease, unaware of another threat festering just underneath the strange planet's surface.  A threat only the dragons and their riders could challenge...

You can play your characters around the concept of dragon riders, including, of course, dragons (sentient beings that could only speak telepathically to their own riders), riders, caretakers, scientists, etc.  Of the NATO forces, the United Kingdom has the largest number of Dragon Wings, followed by the United States, France, & Norway.  Other NATO and allied countries have numbers too small for their own forces, so they combined to the Pan-Alliance Wing, including riders from Spain, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Israel, and Poland.  Of the non-NATO countries, Russia has the highest number of Wings, followed closely by China, and a Pacific-Alliance Wing with Japan & Australia as the majority pilots, though volunteers from any nationality can serve with these Wings.

Following some of the rules of the Dragonriders of Pern books, dragons can only speak telepathically to their own riders & each other, teleport over limited distances, and withstand limited oxygen at the outreaches of the earth's atmosphere.  UNLIKE the book, they don't have to go through colors & genders (like female gold & green, and male bronze, brown, & blue), and they don't have to depend on a natural substance to develop fire.

If anyone's interested, I'll set up the profile guide.

Hobbies and Recreation / Paper Soldiers
« on: August 14, 2012, 06:44:04 AM »
I forgot to mention about this new hobby I've been doing for several months now.  I've become part of a group of artists at a site called JuniorGeneral.org, who create printable figures for games or classrooms.  The variety of styles can range from pre-history to modern day, from real to fictional.  I've been a bit slow, but I'm making good practice at it, even taking on a few big projects.  I'm not sure how to post pictures here, so I could only place a directory to my DA page, where I did a few.

The Written Word / Random Writings
« on: August 11, 2012, 08:17:29 AM »
Ever-so-often, I end up trying some free writing of neat ideas in my head that I don't want to forget, though I probably won't be working seriously upon.  So this is where I'll put some of my works and practice my creative writing.  So here we go:

It has been two hundred years since the war between Man and the Animal Nations began.  The purpose behind this war has long been forgotten, but the hatred between the two fronts continues to seethe out of control.  In the past few decades, the war reached a new level with the reintroduction of an ancient power…magic.

With the magic forces learned from practices by their ancestors, the armies of Man formed the MagiCorps, fighting mages who harnessed the science-induced energies to perform amazing feats in combat.  In its beginning, the MagiCorps were forced into reserves, most ending up being used as bodyguards for the bureaucrats.  But all that changed during what was called the Cataclysm Battle, where the Animal Nations surprised the Armies of Man with their own magic-users, known as the Gaia Guard, in a trap that would kill nearly tens of thousands of human soldiers in a matter of hours.  The uproar from the military commanders and the general public forced the politicians to relent and the MagiCorps moved to the front lines.  The MagiCorps were stationed among the ranks as combat support, with a second role to counter the Gaia Guards’ magic if they were to encounter them.  Now the tide has shifted once again into a deadly stalemate, and only a freak twist of fate could bring the favor of war to one side again…

I am Sergeant Kenshi Xios of Delta Squad, 3rd Company, MagiCorp.  I wasn’t the first in my family to join the war against the Animal Nations, but I was the only Magi, a warrior mage.  I wasn’t at first desiring to fight, but as things went, the Armies of Man needed more soldiers to defend our homelands, and I went to the front after the Cataclysm Battle killed thousands, among them all my brothers.  Despite this, I bear no ill will against the Animal Nations, only against the Gaia Guard as they prove the greatest threat to us all.

My unit, Delta Squad, is currently attached to the 12th Trooper Regiment, to counter the Gaia Guard’s attacks and to support the Regiment.  Our squad leader, known only as Captain Orouk, is a typical sort of commander with national pride and a political ire against the Animal Nations.  However, he’s not the strongest compared to other members.  One of which, is our second-in-command, Lieutenant Linda Ohura, a skilled tactician and morale officer of not only our team, but also the Regiment.  She is the most logical-minded, and probably a perfectionist, and gets annoyed when her plans are not followed to the letter.  Another is Lieutenant John Hisack, perhaps the strongest and fastest fighter of the team, but reserved and alone, and would unexpectedly rush into the thick of the enemy.  His fierce rival is Sergeant Yuon Xi Hon, a brash and unpredictable fighter whose seemingly only goal in his service is to “rack up” the highest number of kills of Gaia Guards, and gets vicious with any other Magi who he suspects is trying to contest his record.  The rest of my teammates are considered the rookies and apprentices, with experience from little to nearly none at all.  Corporal Hans Morgenstein, young and eager to live up to his high expectations as a Magi, Private Nagi Yokumo, seemingly more dependent on technology-based powers rather than her magic training, and Private Johann Prince, a cadet with almost no magic powers whatsoever and strung into the squad by a political bureaucrat of a family member.  I seem to stand in the middle of the group, not yet as powerful as some but enough to have successfully beaten and destroyed a small number of lesser Gaia Guards in battle on my own.

Our Regiment’s current adversaries are the Wolf Tribes of the Animal Nations.  They were not the ones to take part in the Cataclysm Battle, but they still possess powerful Gaia Guard that must be dealt with at any cost.  From our experiences, it is believed that the Wolf Tribes may have been pushed to fight the Armies of Man by the Gaia Guard, and any survivors would attempt to seek asylum, if they could be able to survive the onslaught of the human forces or the wrath of the Gaia Guard.  Among the prisoners were a handful of tribal elders who allowed themselves to be captured so their people could retreat in one of the battles.  Many of the elders where taken to internment camps back in our Homeland, but one, known only as Grey Paw, was placed in custody of our Regiment commander, perhaps to root out more information about the Wolf Tribes and the Animal Nations while he’s still alive.  Some of my fellow Magi believed he was more dangerous than he lets on, especially because of his interests in my squad in particular…

So up until now, we continued our campaign against the Animal Nations, across the desolate landscape ravaged by war, and now forever uninhabitable, and soon into their own homeland, where we are certain they will fight back more viciously and tenaciously, and are bound to face the true might of the Gaia Guard itself.  But as Grey Paw once said to me when I first met him, the war between Man and Animal would soon change tides again…but to another, much darker force.  He also said that the only salvation for us all is an ancient power source, once forged to bring about balance of our world, and that it should bring a peaceful end to this  long and destructive war.  But we will soon discover that we would not be the only ones after this source…

Role Play Discussion / New RP Ideas
« on: March 15, 2012, 03:52:28 AM »
Here are some brief descriptions of these ideas.  More details will come with questions.

1.  Kaiju RP.  An RP based around giant monsters like in most of the Japanese monster movies.  And each player can create their own giant monster!

2.  The Ten Tigers.  A martial arts fantasy set around a magical wall, two worlds separated by it, and a legendary team of kung fu felines bound to protect the balance of power.

3.  Summoners 2.0.  A remake of my Summoners story, set in the modern world.

4.  The Rift.  A crossover of all of Don Bluth's films.

5.  Heroes Forever.  An RP where you can play as characters from any American Power Rangers or Japanese Super Sentai series, and you can even create a few of your own!

Silver Screen / Military Channel
« on: March 15, 2012, 03:22:52 AM »
Is there anyone besides myself who watches the Military Channel (if you have the channel where you live)?  If so, do you find it informative?  Entertaining (if it's the right word)?  A waste of time?  Or blasphemy to everything you ever believed in?

For myself, I watch a good portion of the Military Channel, next to Discovery Channel, History Channel, MeTV, Animal Planet, & Boomerang.  Among my favorite programs include Battleplan, Greatest Tank Battles, Secret War, Top Tens, Futureweapons, Tank Overhaul, & Officer and a Movie (which plays feature films).  I seem to learn a lot history from some of these shows.

Gamers Zone / Would you ever believe...
« on: February 07, 2012, 03:09:13 AM »
This has just happened today, and I'm still in shock right now.

For a long time, my family and I have been normal possessors of Sony Playstation and Nintendo handheld systems.  We have PS original and 2, and some of us also possess GameBoy Color, Advance, & DS.  About a while ago, my brother and I are currently saving up for a PS3, but that will take a while.

Anyway, here's the kicker...  Just recently, an old friend of the family has sent a package of gifts.  Among them...a limited edition Gears of War 3 XBox360 game console!!!  NOW...I've got to seek out some new games for this console too!

So, my brother will try to get Transformers games, and I know the 1st games on my list will be Soul Calibur V & Ace Combat:  Assault Horizon.  Other games I like are fighting, racing, RT-strategies, and flight sims.

Are there any personal recommendations for good games?

Visual Art / Yay! I'm finally doing some art!
« on: January 19, 2012, 02:01:32 AM »
I've been deep into this web site called Junior General.org, which is a place for people to create, print, and make paper figures of military stuff ranging from prehistory, to modern era, to even a little sci-fi.  With them, you can set up your own games, or use them for school or other hobbies.

Anyway, I finally decided to work on a few custom soldiers for my fictional nation that I've been babbling about in Hobbies.  I didn't actually make my first drafts from scratch, but used a couple of designs from other artists, the "Masters", and created a few infantry of different styles and colors.  In time, I'll make more infantry with custom weapons of my own ideas, and ONE DAY, I'll get to the bigger stuff.  You know, tanks, planes, ships, etc.

Hobbies and Recreation / Odd Hobbies
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:38:41 AM »
Skimming through art sites and some forums, I discovered some individuals that have done alternate history and totally made-up worlds and nations nearly from scratch.  Although they put more emphasis on an almost made-from-scratch military, they also put a huge amount of details into government structure, economy, culture, technology, geography, politics, history, and conflicts.

All of a sudden, now I'm outlining my own original nation, with focuses on modern and 1940's eras.  I've created my country's monarchy and government, my armed forces, my currency and economy, and I'm working on map, geography, architecture, and technology.  As for languages, I'm using French as an equivalent.

Anyone else into strange hobbies like this?

Role Play Discussion / Gundam 1942
« on: September 23, 2011, 05:06:22 AM »
Here's another hot and weird idea I came up with:

Setting:  Europe to North Africa, March 1942.  The war started in 1937, with a civil war between the fascist Nazi Party and the Republic of a New Germany, until 1939, when the Republic was beaten across the Belgium/German border, and Nazi Germany invaded Poland, igniting the global war.  By 1940, many other European nations fell and escaped across the channel to England.  When the USA entered the war in 1941, American troops and resources empowered the Allied forces to do battle with Nazi Germany and its allies across Europe and North Africa.

Gundam Setup:  Humanoid robotic suits of heavy steel, experimental fusion power core, jet technology for flight propulsion, melee weapons & firearms resembling period weapons (i.e. super-sized SMLE bolt-action rifle or Thompson sub-machine gun firing artillery shell-like bullets, no lasers), closed-circuit TV optics, radar

Rules:  PG-13

OC characters only.  RL historical characters only mentioned.

Standard forces (infantry, tanks, aircraft, i.e.) still numerous and very important.

This is alternate history.  Events could change.

Gundams are operated by officers only.

If furries are allowed, Hitler's ideal SS furries have silver, white, or blonde fur.

Gundam Groups:  Panzermanngruppe (Armored Man Group) - Units controlled by Nazi Germany, mainly SS.  Few created by the Republic, now called the Free German Confederacy, commanded by Erwin Rommel.

Royal Iron Man Corps - United Kingdom units.  Polish, Czechoslovakian, Dutch, & Commonwealth forces found here.  Most common Gundams in this time of the war.

US Army Mobile Suit Command - American units.  Mainly for skirmishing at this time of the war, but numbers are steadily growing.

Fusiliers de Mobile Armure (Mobile Suit Infantry) - Units of both Free French and Vichy French armies.

Regio Ferro Esercito (Royal Iron Army) - Italian Gundam units.  More often found in North Africa and Mediterranean.

Guards Mobile Suits - Soviet Gundam units.  Not very numerous at this time of the war, but numbers will grow.

Role Play Discussion / New RPG
« on: September 03, 2011, 03:40:49 AM »
OK, here's another idea...

Type:  Furry/Human Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi

Setting:  Houston, Texas.  2050 A.D.  A mysterious biological epidemic targets the human population, killing billions in a matter of months, and driving the survivors underground.  This placed the other races in control of most of the world.  New vicious conflicts emerged concerning the fate of the rest of humanity.  Some try to keep their resident populations alive, but seal them in domed cities, leaving poverty and crime to reign.  Other make more active attempts to find cures and vaccines.  And yet others believe that mankind must be ultimately destroyed.

Even the humans were forced to take sides.  Some also try to find a cure and safe haven for the survivors, especially those running from the furs wanting to destroy them.  Other blame the furs for the plague, and create factions for revenge.  Somehow, a handful of humans have immunities to the biological contagion, and would either be sought for cures or extinction.

Rules:  PG-13 only.  Nothing terribly graphic.

The Plague is a permanent airborne bacterium of a complicated structure, and very hard to cure.  There will be no cure until MUCH later.

Humans can no longer be in open air without special respirators or vehicles shielding them from the Plague.  Exceptions include the Immune.

The Immune are humans that cannot be affected by the plague.  There are no other powers.

Technology is limited to today's modern standards.  The epidemic has caused new developments to be set decades back if not failed outright.  Only new technologies are for defenses against the Plague.

No mythical creatures.  Only existing creatures and real creatures now extinct.

Factions:  The United States of Gaia - Formerly the United States of America before the Plague, and retains all borders and original laws, except ruled by a Roman-style Senate and a Prophet.  Fully funding to save humans in their nation, they constructed special domed cities bordering existing cities, and organized the Bureau of Genetic Research and Development for the Survival of Humanity, or the "Bureau".  The Bureau was created from elements of NASA, FBI, United Nations, and various military science companies devoted to combating the Plague.

Red Claw Faction - An anti-human political power, lead by its own Prophet, trying to gain global power to annihilate humanity.  This created many bloody coups and conflicts with other nations.  Unable to defeat more powerful countries, and dubbed as a terrorist organization, the Red Claw resorts to guerrilla and terrorist cells to cause trouble in the United States of Gaia.

Gun Hawks - A human guerrilla fighter team of former soldiers, based in Texas.  Although no longer a force of law, they actively attempt to keep humanity alive, even by illegal means.  This means finding the Immune for assistance, safely transporting people of interest, and facing any threats to mankind.  They are often referred as "Gaia's Lost Knights" by the USG Prophet, and "Unit 5, American Division" by the USG armed forces and United Nations.

United Animal Kingdom - Formerly the coalition of England, Wales, & Scotland now under control of a new Prophet after the original royal family were killed by the Plague.  Many of its scientists venture to the USG to assist the Bureau in their research, as well as some protection from various threats.

Geneti-Tech Medical Corporation - A human-run science organization that has also devoted time, though little compared to the Bureau, to the cure.
