Hobbies and Recreation / Re-enacting
« on: July 13, 2011, 03:18:00 AM »
For a while now, I've been increasingly interested in joining a war re-enacting or living history group.  But I have a bit of a dilemma.

I would really like to join a WW2 group, but the only such units here in AZ are the 1st SS (which I have no intention of joining for various reasons) and a possible Jewish Brigade Group (which may be on the opposite side of where I live).  So I've decided to create my own group where I live.  I wanted to create a group named from real units that have stationed here in AZ, and I found the only ones:  the 92nd and 93rd Infantry Divisions.

But here's the problem:  Both of these divisions are segregated all-black infantry forces, and I'm Caucasian.  Also, I really don't want to kick out anyone because of race or gender due to authenticity.  So I've come up with an idea to create several fighting unit names, plus medical units like the Army Nurse Corps or the WACs.  So we could take in any volunteers.  The only other "duh" issue is the need for money for authentic clothing & gear.

Anyway, are there anyone here who are familiar with this sort of thing or done it?  I could go with some pointers.

Role Play Discussion / Ninja Dogs RP
« on: June 22, 2011, 03:28:47 AM »
This is an idea I got off from the anime & manga Ginga Narageboshi Gin.  It's still a more original idea.

The setting is feudal Japan, the area is centered around an unexplored and mysterious forest known as the Whispering Woods, at the base of Mount Fuji.  Within these woods live an intelligent race of canines, living as spirits and phantoms to ward off most nosy humans.  While the armies of Man make war with each other, these wild dogs occasionally make their own wars with each other, and with other Clans (explained later).  But one common foe all of their kind are devoted to do battle to the demons of the dog world, the Doku.  But the Doku have yet to resurface since the last Dog Wars, and despite the omens of their possible return, new leaders turn their backs on the prophecy for their own ambitions, possibly endangering the whole of Japan, and perhaps the world...

The Fridge / A new addition to the family
« on: June 06, 2011, 02:59:10 AM »
I knew I always wanted a dog further down the timeline, but in a few weeks, one will be living with my family.

Here's the story:
I have been volunteering at a local animal shelter for about 7 months now, among the first dogs I met was a black chow/lab/spitz mix named Rocky.  I loved all the dogs that have come and gone, but Rocky and I seemed to bond closer than anyone else, but at the time I couldn't adopt him even if I wanted to.  Five months ago, I became the shelter's adoption event coordinator, planning special days to publicize our shelter and adopt out our dogs and cats.  Two months ago, Rocky became my choice to take to one of these special days, and he was adopted out in the first hour.

Just a few days ago, a fellow volunteer, also my second-in-command in the adoption days, discovered Rocky on the side of the road in the middle of the desert.  Her skills in intelligence gathering unearthed what happened.  For reasons that I really don't buy into (saying he freaks out while riding in the car), the adopting family gave Rocky up to a neighbor before they moved to Georgia, and this person, again for suspicious reasons (saying he jumped on her kids), finally made the choice to dump him in the middle of nowhere, to die.  Although after contacting the "adopters", who then said they'll be flying over to pick Rocky up, it was decided they had earlier relinquished responsibility of him and they will never have him back.

The tough part was finding Rocky a home again.  I took advantage of an entire weekend of events we signed up for, and took him to every trip.  But what myself and the other volunteers decided before then, if he didn't get adopted then, since he and I were the closest, then I can take him in.  Sure enough, he's now mine.  My family and I are now preparing our home for him to move in about a week or two.

I find it incredibly hard to see any problems with him.  He's people & pet friendly, tolerates rough-housing by little kids, he's smart and trainable, he comes when he's called by name, and he was no trouble in any car rides.  My spurts of anger at these people are now behind me, and I now look forward to my first dog.

Role Play Discussion / Balto RP

I'm surprised no one else came up with a suggestion for an RPG based off of Balto, with quite a few fans of the movies.  Anyone care to join in?

Role Play Discussion / LBT The Seven Saurians
« on: May 26, 2011, 04:35:03 AM »
OK.  I think I'm done with original ideas for the time being.  Now I have an LBT one.  Picture this:

A new threat has come to the Great Valley in the form of a Sharptooth named Blackeye, whose gang had just whipped Redclaw's and sent his group packing, and now has the Valley itself in its sights.  The Valley's only hope is to find and bring together the Seven Saurians, once a team of heroes from long ago, now separated and disappeared, and the Gang of Seven (meaning Chomper & Ruby too), must find them, even in the Mysterious Beyond where Blackeye roams.

For this, the focus of main characters should be more around the LBT kids, the bad guy, and the Saurians, which could be OC's or FC's, leaf-eaters & sharpteeth. (i.e. Doc AKA The Lone Dinosaur could be one of the Seven Saurians, but doesn't want to talk about it)  All other chars, even OC's, should be part of the supporting cast.

What do you guys think?

Role Play Discussion / A fantasy RP
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:41:05 AM »
I've been working on this for a few months, and I need to see if it would get popular.  I've got pages of rules that I'll have to post later, but here's a summary of what it's about.

The setting is in the 1890's, and besides historical accuracies, it'll also be a fantasy with magic and steam punk-style technology.  You can choose among humans, anthro furries, and non-anthro furries.  There's much more, but I'll have to place it all in my next post.

Role Play Discussion / Mob Land RP
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:00:06 AM »
If I had mentioned that I'd not come up with any new ideas, that went out the window when I got this idea.

I'm thinking of a human/furry RP set in the 20s & 30s, about warring mobsters and lawmen.  And to put a twist, besides OCs, you can use real people in the day, PLUS characters from movies & TV shows set in those times.

The current shows acceptable are:
All Dogs Go To Heaven
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Jim Henson's Dog City
The Untouchables (TV show)
Oliver & Company (I know, but it can be modified for the older era)

The Rules:
The story can be in film noir, and there can be some comedy
You can post like you're narrating from the mind of your character
The rating is PG-13.  Leave out the details of sexuality and nudity, but everything else is fine
If using real people as characters, you can have them as furries and can even tweak the name if you wish (i.e. Al Capone to Owl Capone)

Random Role Play / Scorched Earth
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:14:15 AM »
August, 2030 A.D.

The world, attempting to settle from the chaos of global war and disaster, bears vicious scars to make the land unrecognizable from the time only 10 years back.  Now the survivors must endure and carve out their future in the new world...

(New York/Canada Border)

Heading south from the fallen country of Canada, seven tanks cruised across the landscape.  Their mission was a disaster from the very beginning.  They started out as an armored regiment of Royal Army & Marines, and set out across the sea to assist the United States in their war against Mexico.  But what met them first were hurricane storms that destroyed all but one ship carrying a mere handful of tanks...

When they landed on the shores of Massachusetts, they drove immediately to the territory of Quebec for help.  Instead, they were greeted by hostile separatist warlords, and barely escaped in one piece.  They never faced armor, save for one Leopard 2 tank that they had to combine their shots to destroy.  Otherwise, they attempted to save their 120mm shells and resort to their machine guns to fight off the opposition...

With no help in the war-torn land, the Royal Expeditionary Force retreated back into the United States for their original mission...to find the President in hiding...

----------

(Central New Mexico)

Across the barren flat lands of the desert, a dark blue Pontiac GTO races west.  A few minutes behind it, a dozen vehicles, cars, motorcycles, & sand rails, speed to catch up with the lead car...

Role Play Discussion / Final Idea
« on: January 24, 2011, 03:10:06 AM »
I ended up getting those Bill Engvall weird thoughts, and came up with a general idea, with two settings to go by.

The year is 2030 AD.  The world as we know entered a post-apocalyptic age as some of the greatest powers collapsed, triggering countless civil wars across the globe.  Within this dark age are those that refuse to die out, and fight for survival, power, and destruction...

But which path will be taken?  War on the seas, or on land?

Role Play Discussion / One more RP idea
« on: December 03, 2010, 01:22:05 AM »
I know my ideas aren't getting any bites, and I understand if nobody's been interested or too busy.

Anyway, I got one final idea, but it'll definitely need some imput and ideas from anyone interested.  The big idea revolves around planes and pilots, the timeline either modern day or near future, no limit to number of characters, they can be human/furry, and rated no higher than PG-13.

I don't have a concrete setting or story, so I got a big ear for suggestions.  I'm just leary with plots related to games and movies.  Although I have played some aircraft games, I'm not familiar with stories from every game or show.

Role Play Discussion / Heroes & Villains
« on: November 14, 2010, 02:44:02 AM »
I was actually unsure if everyone were already busy on other threads and elsewhere, so I'm not entirely optimistic of this starting off immediately.  But it's worth a shot.

For a thread of heroes and villains, here is the set-up and rules:

* Each player can create one superhero, and can have sidekicks, or a team of up to five heroes, but NOT a medley of superheroes (Justice League of America is a medley, Road Rovers is a specific team, i.e.)

* Each player can create up to 3 supervillains, each can have sidekicks/lackeys and armies.  Anti-heroes or questionable alliance characters fit here.

* There are no limits to supporting characters and neutral characters.  Supporters include assistants, mechanics, and others not naturally actively fighting alongside the heroes.

* Heroes and villains from comics, tv shows, & cartoons are available and open (unless a character is needed for a specific plot, then it can be reserved for a player)

* The plot and sub-plots don't have to be serious.  Players can be melodramatic as they wish.

* The typical setting for the story is a metropolis city called Sky City, but players are not restricted to Sky City.

* Character profiles are set up as this:

Hero/Villain Name
Real Name
Age
Gender
Species
Occupation
Skills/Powers
Weapons/Equipment
Description
Personality
Brief History

Now let's see if anyone's available and interested.

Random Role Play / Summoners
« on: August 30, 2010, 02:14:35 AM »
Tedisian, an oceanside city built on trade and commerce.  Ruled by a delagation of wealthy aristocrats and their private armies.  It has been two years since the city was under siege by an airborne fleet of pirates, and one aristocrat found it an opportunity to celebrate an 'anniversary' of the town's victory, although the anniversary was techincally another month.  The city has become alive with festivities and increasing trades as the day rolls by...

Although the name Summoner has long become a common name, Summoners remain rare, and practically no such residents in the city.  Views towards them were mixed, from great respect to outright hate.  In this city, the view expressed at best is suspect and curiousity.  For this aristocrat, he trusts none...

At his luxorious home, he displays his wealth to only the rich, famous, and political figures.  None of the common people are permitted.  Amongst his treasures, stood a set of seven strange-looking large gems.  Not as exquisite as the rest of his stash, and perhaps not of monetary worth, but it remains his most guarded valuables.  Its true worth could only be noted by two kinds of people:  Those who wants them for an unknown and dangerous plan, and those who could wield them, perhaps to save the fate of the world...

Role Play Discussion / New RP idea...
« on: August 14, 2010, 03:35:41 AM »
OK, new plan.  I got a very hot idea, and I'm sure everyone has no problem in joining.

Story:  On a small unamed planet, the entire sky rained glowing gems across the lands and seas.  Those who found these gems discovered that each gem contained a soul within, but no one knows where.  In ways unknown to the outside world, a device was developed to bring the souls to life...

One century later, the world has changed much with a new breed of warrior.  Warriors born to bring forth the souls of warriors and companions to survive in the rising chaos of global war.  These are know as the Summoners...

There are 5 races where Summoners can be found...

Terrans:  Same as humans.  Any color and walk of life.

Reapers (Shadowfolk):  Humanoids with coal-black skin, white hair, white eyes and gray blood.  Sensitive to light, but can't be destroyed by it.  Most civilizations are underground.  Abilities to see in the dark except for pitch black.

Goths:  Humanoids with white skin, bright-colored glowing eyes, dark hair, and green blood.  NOT undead, but high pain tolerance.  Tend to dehydrate easily, so they wash themselves often outside of their own civilizations, which are often waterside or in swamps.  Very agile and able swimmers.

Furs:  Evolved humanoid animals.  Mostly bipedal with digigrade legs, but tauric species do exist.  Civilizations are often camouflaged in nature.  Heightened senses and slightly stronger for their size.

Wraiths:  Enemies to other four races.  Vaguely humanoid beings resembling incorporal ghosts, banshees, and Grim Reapers.  Ruled by the Witch Queen and the Warlock Tyrant.  Rulers keep from sight, leaving the war to the 13 Generals, whom are the only ones who can be Summoners.  The Wraiths are on a campaign to gather all the Soul Gems for something to remake the world...

Rules:  No more than 3 heroes to keep from confusing everyone.  Have a reasonable number of villains.
Summoners can carry no more than 4, but they can own more (kept someplace secure)
Summoners can carry no more than 2 weapons or 2 matching pairs of weapons, or mix-and-match
Soul Gems can be ANYONE from movies, TV, books, & video games, and they don't have to be fighters, like a companion character (BUT only one soul character.  No two Sonic the Hedgehogs for example)
Only 1 Soul Gem character can be summoned at a time, but they can out for any length of time.  You must return a character to the Soul Gem to summon another.
Soul Gem characters return to Soul Gems when they are beaten, but they can be summoned later.  Characters are permanently destroyed only when the Soul Gems are destroyed.
There is only 1 Soul Gem Char per gem.  No duos (unless conjoined)
No character can have their own magic powers, but their Soul Gem partners with powers can share.  Wraiths are the only exception.
Summoners CANNOT steal another Summoner's Soul Gems UNLESS the Soul Gems chooses the new Summoner.  The 13 Generals and the Wraith rulers are the only exceptions.
Some Soul Gem chars start off at the lowest level, but they can get stronger just the same as the movie/TV/etc where they came from.  Digimon and Pokemon, for example.
The 13 Generals are an exemption of most of the Summoner rules, as they can control just about any Soul Gem Char they could get their claws on, and they often use the most powerful ones, even good guys chars.  The Generals are very powerful to command armies of wraiths, and they are masterful fighters when they seldom come face-to-face with enemies.
The rating for the adventure is PG-13.  No sex, nudity, language above this.  The violence could be just a little more, but not seriously graphic.  Furs don't have to wear as much as the other races, as long as they have thick enough fur/feathers/etc to cover anything that must be covered.

Profiles:

Name:  Full Name "Nicknames in parenthesis"
Age:
Race:  If choosing Fur, note species of animal
Gender:
Occupation:  Summoners OR any other occupation
Weapons/Equipment:  Summoners automatically have Summon Bands, a gauntlet with a placement for a Soul Gem
Soul Gem characters:  Your first 3 Soul Gem chars (put what movie/TV/etc each char came from to reduce confusion).  You'll be free to get more in the story
Transport:  Vehicles from movies, TV, video games are permitted.  Only rule is that you can't go to outer space. Describe original ideas and any armament in detail.
Special Features:  Injuries, tattooes, dye-colored hair, etc
Personality:

Anyone interested?

SIDE NOTE:  Every participating RPer is entitled to one of the 13 Generals.  Profiles for them are the same.

Role Play Discussion / New RP Ideas
« on: August 04, 2010, 10:28:29 PM »
After a while of thinking, I've come up with some ideas for a new RP that wouldn't involve crossovers or others designed after movies, TV, games, etc.  These ideas would be historical military based, but not with entirely accurate stories.  Here are my proposals:

#1.  A WW2 furry/human story of a fleet of 5 ships (one has to be an escort aircraft carrier and another has to be a submarine) from a coalition of American, British, Canadian, and Commonwealth forces, all investigating rumors of a Nazi secret base of operations (could be on an uncharted island, a floating base, or an undersea base) in the southern Atlantic Ocean, supposedly guarded by wolfpacks of submarines that have sunk South African and Brazilian ships over a certain time period.

Rules:  Players can play American, British, Commonwealth countries (Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand), Brazilian, & German characters.  There can't be a battleship.  Only a battlecruiser can be the strongest brand of gunships in the fleet.  The only other fleets in the vicinity are transport and merchant fleets from Brazil and Commonwealth countries.

#2.  A WW2 furry/human story of a small group of no more than 10 ex-German and ex-Soviet soldiers who had escaped from the Eastern Front to German-occupied Greece, where they are helping resistance fighters wreak havoc on Nazi forces and investigating into the rumors of a secret laboratory operated by the SS on one of the islands in the Aegean Sea.

Rules:  Players can have Greek, German, Italian, and any of the ten German/Soviet characters.  No Western Allied forces, commandoes or otherwise, and the team cannot make contact with Allied forces UNLESS the Greek resistance fighters are in contact.  There can be an exception of Italian foes besides German enemies.  The only common story between these 10 characters is that the Germans were sent to the Eastern Front because they were against certain policies held by the SS, and the Soviets were conscripts or specialists under suspicion that they were being hunted by the secret police.

#3.  A modern sci-fi furry/human story of a covert coalition tank force fighting the Swords of Bast, an organization that have dominated the northern African region and the Middle East.  They go behind the lines and take out the leader of the Swords, known only as Pharaoh, and uncover what ever secret projects they are working on.

Rules:  Players can be either Coalition or Swords of Bast faction.  Coalition characters can be from any country and drive any modern vehicle.  Swords of Bast characters are mostly of ancient Egyptian descent, but their can be loyalists from any country, and they can use any vehicles and weapons they can get their hands on.  Technology on both sides include electromagnetic weapons, plasma weapons, and cloaking.

Those are my ideas.  Feel free to share and express your own ideas...

Travel / "Adventuring" / My May Adventures
« on: June 08, 2010, 10:59:00 PM »
I didn't mention where I was going before I left for a couple weeks, so I'll share what I did in that time:

We first went to New Jersey because my youngest sister was graduating from college with a BA in Radio, Television, & Theater.  While we were there, we went to Philadelphia and the surrounding area to visit Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, the home of the Philosophical Society, which was recently exhibiting the works of Charles Darwin, a museum of nautical history, the battleship USS New Jersey, the cruiser USS Olympia, and the submarine USS Beculio.  I also managed to try the REAL Philly Cheese Steak, Philly Pretzel, & Philly Water Ice.

On our way to Cleveland because another sister was graduating from a different school, we stopped off in Chicago and had the true Chicago hot dog before we made it to Cleveland.  And there, we saw the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Auto-Aviation Museum, the freighter SS William J Mathers, and the submarine USS Cod.

My sister in New Jersey stayed after the graduation to get a Masters degree, but my other sister had to move out, and I had to one of the truck drivers from Ohio back home, which took less than a week because we never stopped at any attractions along the way. <_<

The trip was fun in general, and there are a lot of places we missed I would love to visit someday.

Silver Screen / Deadliest Warrior
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:24:05 PM »
On Spike TV (if any of you have this channel), they're already into the second season of Deadliest Warrior.  If you haven't seen this, it's simply putting the best warriors in history against each other, comparing an even number of weapons each warrior uses, their tactics, and their common mindset, and then set up a fight simulation a thousand times to determine which side wins more.  It's somewhat interesting in information, but much of it is simply more graphic in gore, which is probably why this show will never be on History or Military Channel.

The first season had:

Samurai vs Viking = Samurai won
Ninja vs Spartan = Spartan won
Mafia vs Yakuza = Mafia won
Apache vs Roman Gladiator = Apache won
Shaolin Monk vs Maori = Shaolin Monk won
Spetsnaz vs Green Beret = Spetsnaz won
Taliban vs Irish Republican Army = IRA won
William Wallace vs Shaka Zulu = William Wallace won
Pirate vs Knight = Pirate won

Then a brief revisit of first season warriors:

Samurai vs Spartan = Spartan won
IRA vs Spetsnaz = Spetsnaz won

Now, in the second season, we've got:

SWAT vs GSG-9 = SWAT won
Alexander the Great vs Attila the Hun = Attila won
Jesse James gang vs Al Capone gang = Jesse James won
Aztec Jaguar vs Zande Warrior = Zande Warrior wins
German SS vs Viet Cong = Waffen SS won
Roman Centurion vs Rajput = Rajput won
Medillan Cartel vs Somali Pirates = Somali Pirates won
Persian Immortal vs Celt = Immortal wins
CIA vs KGB = CIA won
Vlad the Impaler vs Sun Tzu = Vlad wins
Ming Warrior vs Musketeer = Musketeer wins
Comanche vs Mongol = Comanche wins
Navy SEALs vs Israeli Commandos = SEALs win (closest match ever!)

And others I can't remember...

Hobbies and Recreation / Gardening

For the past while, I've been blabbing about my gardens that I've been working on for the past year, so I thought a separate thread on gardening might do, at least for my ramblings.  But everyone else is welcome to share stories on fruits, vegetables, flowers, and similar stuff.

Anyway, recently I have just harvested some of my kohlrabi (which never looked like any of the pictures before they bloomed flowers) to make dinner.  I used both bulbs and the leaves to make a dish like spinach on top of pasta.  Overall, there were a few minor adjustments to be made for next time, but it was very good nonetheless.
