I think I was too generic with the last idea.  Here's one with more meat...

Earth 2070 AD.  With the growing shortage of ores, many leading nations resorted to solutions of genetic experimentation.  Most of NATO, and later Russia, China, & Japan, came up with one common answer...dragons.  At the same time, astrologers discovered a moon-sized planet on a course to cross Earth's pass, which put the planet on high alert for a potential collision.  But scientists proved against a cataclysmic collision to put the public at ease, unaware of another threat festering just underneath the strange planet's surface.  A threat only the dragons and their riders could challenge...

You can play your characters around the concept of dragon riders, including, of course, dragons (sentient beings that could only speak telepathically to their own riders), riders, caretakers, scientists, etc.  Of the NATO forces, the United Kingdom has the largest number of Dragon Wings, followed by the United States, France, & Norway.  Other NATO and allied countries have numbers too small for their own forces, so they combined to the Pan-Alliance Wing, including riders from Spain, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Israel, and Poland.  Of the non-NATO countries, Russia has the highest number of Wings, followed closely by China, and a Pacific-Alliance Wing with Japan & Australia as the majority pilots, though volunteers from any nationality can serve with these Wings.

Following some of the rules of the Dragonriders of Pern books, dragons can only speak telepathically to their own riders & each other, teleport over limited distances, and withstand limited oxygen at the outreaches of the earth's atmosphere.  UNLIKE the book, they don't have to go through colors & genders (like female gold & green, and male bronze, brown, & blue), and they don't have to depend on a natural substance to develop fire.

If anyone's interested, I'll set up the profile guide.

Sounds like it could be interesting.  I guess the riders for the rp would be from the same country, or are some sort of attachment from another country?

To Kor:  We could also do an annual conference and joint-operation wargames between all countries.  By this time, none of these countries are really adversaries, but perhaps rivals due to typical national pride.

Anyway, here's a profile...

Name:
Species:
Age:  (dragons can live no longer than 60)
Faction:
Occupation:  (dragons have one clear occupation as soon as they are old enough to fly & breathe fire)
Weapons:  (dragons have no other weapons other than their claws, teeth, tail, & fire)
Personality:
Brief Bio:

More Rules:
Dragons at this time can't breed.  New dragons could only be born from test tube "eggs".
Dragons have a spiritual bond with their riders.  If their riders die, then they die, though it doesn't have to be vice versa (this came from the book too).

Name:  Captain Hank Foster
Species:  Human
Age: 30
Faction:  Royal Air Force - Dragon Corps
Occupation: Dragon rider, flight leader
Weapons: Royal Enfield bullpup rifle for caseless ammunition, Glock particle handgun
Personality:  Easy-going, patient, soft-spoken, but changes quickly to stern and no-nonsense while in action.  Strongly loyal to Churchill.

Brief Bio:  Hank was one of the first three classes of dragon riders to the Dragon Corps during its formation, partnering with one of the first batches of dragons.  His leadership led to his command of a flight of four dragons.

Name:  Churchill
Species:  Dragon
Age:  20 (mentality of a 45-year-old)
Faction:  Royal Air Force - Dragon Corps
Occupation:  Combat dragon
Weapons:  Natural weapons, fire breathing
Personality:  Strict in proper procedures and etiquette, and hardly tolerates slacking off of younger dragons and rookie dragon riders, though he needs Hank and the other dragons to help keep the humans in line.  Deeply respects Hank and mentors him in leadership.

Brief Bio:  Churchill is one of the first of England's dragons, many of whom were named by great leaders & heroes.  Though the newer generations of dragons could be ready for combat at only 10, Churchill's group has greater maturity when they were partnered with their human riders, Hank Foster being his own rider.

Name:  Nayana "Cleo" Samiscrae
Species:  Human
Age:  26
Faction:  Royal Azerbaijani Air Force - Pan-Alliance Wing
Occupation:  Dragon rider
Weapons:  Steyr bullpup rifle with caseless ammunition, Glock particle handgun
Personality:  Slightly reserved, would rather spend more time with Noble and her flight mates

Brief Bio:  Nayana, or Cleo as her flight mates call her, is the only representative of Azernaijan, and the only female rider in the Pan-Alliance Wing from an Arab country.

Name:  Noble (Nayana calls him by the same name in Arabic)
Species:  Dragon
Age:  12 (mentality of a 30-year-old)
Faction:  Royal Azerbaijani Air Force - Pan-Alliance Wing
Occupation:  Combat dragon
Weapons:  Natural weapons, fire breathing
Personality:  Proud, honorable, loyal, protective of Nayana

Brief Bio:  Noble is one of the few dragons raised for riders of NATO countries, partnered with the only female from an Arab country in the Pan-Alliance Wing

I'll have a few more later.
