OK then.

Anyway, we can get back to the Ebony Squadron's structure.  I ended up changing the number of leaders to five, one for all fighter pilots, one for attack, one for support (helicopters and transports), a base commander, and a carrier's captain.  I have the attack plane commander, so the others are up for grabs.  All small aircraft from any era are accepted, even civilian planes, and usually are already modified at least for carriers.

The profiles for characters will go like this:

Brief History:  Adrian is a former JSDF pilot, dishonorably discharged for, allegedly, destroying a civilian fishing ship.  In truth, it was a combination of questions about his sexuality, as well as the work of the elite paramilitary group Area 88.  Immediately, he was recruited into the organization, earning the title of ace in a record 2 skirmishes.  
Notes:  Adrian is assigned to Ebony Squadron as a support pilot
   All Adrian's planes are painted deep red
   Piloting Style is aggressive and acrobatic, favoring use of his guns to down his foes.

Of course.
Area 88 is an elite paramilitary/antiterrorist group, made up mostly of mercenaries or former soldiers.  An extremely secretive organization, most countries are unaware of their existance, and the few that do can't actively contact them until they send a representative to the leader with an offer of assistance.  In reality, the entire unit is housed on a fleet of advanced aircraft carriers, which are refuled and resupplied in an undisclosed location.
All pilots are allowed to fly and own as many planes as they can maintain, and all pilots are given a salary based on numbers of downed enemies during each mission.  Perhaps atypical of many paramilitary units, pilots are also allowed to use the money they earn to buy their way out of the service.  
Ranking system is based on the number of enemies shot down by a pilot over their service.
Rookie: 0 down
Cadet: 1-5 down
Elite: 5-10 down
Ace: 10-15 down
Ace of Aces: 15+ down

Back to the plot, and I'm thinking it out as I'm going along:

A government from a country calls Ebony Squadron, concerning the kidnapping of their president and his family by militants/terrorists, and taken to a tyrant country that refuses to release them, and is secretly bargaining with another enemy nation that wants the president executed publicly.  So Ebony Squadron takes the job, but the government places some political officers to oversee the rescue and "take charge" if they wish to.  Then, the Squadron gets word that some freedom fighters in the tyrant country wants them to help overthrow the tyrant himself, but the political officers will have none of it and accuse the freedom fighters as terrorists.  The Ebony Squadron will most surely face the militants/terrorists, two enemy nations, and maybe a mercenary faction paid by the tyrant to protect his regime...
