Are different herds run differently?

We have seen that the herds act collectively in the Great Valley, but little is shown about the herds themselves...

We know that at least some of them have individual leaders, possibly the largest and strongest in some cases, or perhaps the oldest in others (ex: Ali's herd.)

I am very certain that different herds are run in different ways. We have seen herds with a single dominant leader (Ali's herd, the spiketails in LBT 8), we know of one herd sort of split up while the leader was wondering of with parts of the herd (Bron's herd), and we have seen herds mixed of different kinds (the farwalkers in LBT 7) where perhaps there is no leader at all but rather a kind of democracy (same as was said about the Great Valley inhabitants journey to the valley in the LBT 7 flashback). Finally there were these yellowbellies of LBT 13. If memory doesn't fail me some special wisdom (or awareness of the whereabouts) was ascribed to one of the yellowbellies, but he did not come across as much of a leader in charge of this rampant group of individuals.

The leader of the Yellowbelly clan is Foobie, and he did not seem like much of a leader.  In fact, he seemed about as absent-minded as the rest of the herd :crazy.  Makes me wonder how the Yellowbelly herd survived .

All the more reason why movie 13 is SO bad... worst one of the series in my estimation...    :(  :crazy

Although the greater point is that the herds are run differently, by each species, and probably by different herds within each species.

Excepting the yellowbellies (and I tend not to take the later sequels as much into account as the original movie and the early sequels) the movies are not explicit on whether or not the species is a decisive factor in determining how a herd is run. Still I assume it to be more likely than not to play a role as we know some species (threehorns most prominently) to show attitudes not likely to be as strong with other species.
