Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure
Post by: Chikara on September 12, 2007, 11:24:44 AM
Finally got to see more than the last few minutes of this episode.

Littlefoot, Ducky, Petrie and Chomper (followed by Hyp, Nod and Mutt) find a nest of Fastbiter eggs. They decide to carry the eggs away from the valley so the baby sharpteeth can grow up without eating anyone, and set off on a journey into the mysterious beyond. Of course there's also a very angry Fastbiter mother chasing them...

Songs:
- We Must Be Brave (to the tune of I Feel Mad).
- Adventuring (post-adventure version).

Another "movie character" episode.

No Cera, Spike or Ruby in this episode.

If you "can get any channel anywhere in the world", then why don't you just find the UK version of Cartoon Network and see if you can find the LBT episodes?

I got boomerang from the UK, but I have to record it at a minimum of 12megs a minute.  That's gonna be a huge file.  I dunno how good it'll come out when I compress it... Probably not too well. :(

it might be big but you can compress it right? Also be aware there is a hourly differences to where you live. UK time for LBT is 3pm to 4pm daily.

This episode was alright I thought. Hyp kinda looked a bit odd though   He didn't seem to look much like he did in LBT 3... And I don't think the original voice over for Hyp was used either. Nod and Mutt didn't seem to look all that different and Scott Menville even replayed Nod for this episode. Still, doesn't look like Hyp had learned an awful lot despite showing reform at the end of LBT 3 :^.^: Littlefoot actually kinda loses his rag with Hyp on a few occasions but, as per usual, the gang sort out their differences and come through in the end ;)

Alright, class, time to pick up your pencils and erasers. Let's look at what we have so far.

Also, sources, except for Stitch's finding (which neither contained names for episodes or was even ever put into Wikipedia, for that matter), haven't been put into the article. I'm thinking the article is getting mugged. Can someone dig up more reliable sources than Wikipedia?

What were the bullies like compared to the movie?
Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure
Post by: pokeplayer984 on January 15, 2008, 12:02:04 PM
Huh!  I'll tell you first off that Hyp, Nod and Mutt looked somewhat different from when we first saw them in LBT 3, but it's definately them.  Also, if I'm not mistaken, their voices were different.

To think, they didn't include Ruby, Spike and Cera in this one and gave a proper excuse. (The Mud Pools, then again, they did enjoy them.) Cera would've definately thought that this was a crazy idea.  Leading a fast-biter mother away from the valley by taking her eggs?  She'd kill them for that and probably leave their corpse to rot.  I'm not surprised that the mother still wanted to kill them for taking the eggs after everything was said and done.  They were lucky those eggs hatched when they did.

The episode mostly had them getting chased by the fast-biter mother and planning how to keep her from killing them.  So it definately kept you on the edge of your seat, wondering if they would escape.  So it was good in that sense.

As for the songs, let's just say they could've done better.  I'll have them given to Action9000 when I can, but I've got quite a bit of stuff to do this week.  Even my off time schedule is busy.

It's at least decent enough to want to watch again, and that's saying something with the TV eps.

Well, I'll see ya later! :^.^:

Maybe he secretly hopes that will make these sharpteeth friendly instead of mean.  Maybe also if the eggs hatch they'll have sharpteeth in the valley, more then just one, if that is the plot of moving the eggs out.

I think the eggs probably just looked different because they were moved from a cave out into daylight.

The bullies looking different is probably just because the animation style has changed quite a lot since LBT 3 was made.

Hyp did look quite a bit different (and he was a lot smaller) from his self in the 3rd movie, but his attitude was still the same, which I appreciated. Hyp, Mut and Nod are among my favorite sequel characters, and the episode itself was very good. I think the eggs were blue in the beginning because they were in the darkness.
Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure
Post by: landbeforetimelover on January 17, 2008, 10:25:00 PM
I liked this episode a lot as well.  Though, I thought that the bullies would be nicer.  At the end of LBT 3, it seemed that they weren't really bullies anymore and for 9 more sequels they didn't cause any trouble.  If they're really "the greatest trouble-makers in the great valley" as Littlefoot says, I think we would have seen them or at least seen the result of their mischief in later sequels.
Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure

I think Littlefoot was reffering to what took place in LBT 3.
Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure

They did seem a bit nicer then their first appearance.  And as to why they were not around, I guess it's like with the other characters who live in the valley but are not seen.  They usually don't show a character unless they have something to do with the plot of the movie or episode in some way.  It may make less sense, but it likely makes the movie and episode easier to write and animate that way.  Much the same as there are no other kids really except for mainly the gang and a few others, Guido who is seldom seen and some of the gang's siblings, and such.

Does anyone else think that the mother raptor falling asleep at the end was too much of a save? Yes, I'm sure that she was tired after chasing the main characters and that seeing her newborn hatchlings safe would have relaxed her, but it is odd that she would simply forget about those who had stolen her eggs to begin with...
Title: Discuss: The Great Egg Adventure

It likely was a thing they used to end the episode since they had little time left.  It's been done in fiction often before unfortunately, even LBT has used it before.

I think Mama Fast Biter had the same motives as Chomper's parents: Get the eggs back, harm anyone that is taking them, and maybe go for food around there, but mainly, if you get your kids back, just go and take care of the kids instead and leave the Leaf Eaters alone.

(Who knows, maybe Chomper told her at some point what they were really up to and she decided "Oh well, makes sense.  Just don't try anything funny ever again or else   :anger  :anger  :anger  :anger  :anger  :anger  :anger  ")

It's also possible that, er, the mother already was getting food and hence wasn't hungry.  She may have just wanted to whack them for egg taking but realized that seeing to her hatched children was more important and so let the kids be.

Ah yes, this one. Never saw it all, but it looked quite good from what I saw. It shows LBT doesn't need all it's main characters to make a good story, and brought back some old character from my favorite sequel. All in all, a good season finale (I know it's not the last episode of the season aired, but seeing as it's listed as the last one, I'm just going to call it the last one).

Do you think Hyp wanting to kill the Fast Biter eggs was a bit murderous on his part or do you think that, unlike the Gang of Five, Hyp just never had the joy of having fun with Sharptooth babies?  I mean, once he sees the cute little things, he seems to change his mind on them.

Heck, even Ducky thinks Sharptooth babies are cute in film V: "You have cute babies!  I see they have their grown up teeth!"

I watched this one on YouTube not long ago.
I enjoyed it, and I thought they did a good job of keeping Hyp, Nod, and Mutt in-character. Yeah Hyp looks a little different, but it's still a close resemblance, and even the voice acting was similar to the original character. :)
I guess I'm someone who appreciates keeping characters in-character when they're reintroduced. I've found that it's not that big a deal to some people, but there's nothing I love more than to see old faces resurface and have it be like old times. Which is exactly the impression I got from this episode. :)

Littlefoot: "Wait, Hyp might be onto something."
*Hyp nods triumphantly, then stares in confusion* "I am?"

Another "movie character" episode.
These are among the episodes I've enjoyed the most. I like when they bring back past guest characters. :)

No Cera, Spike or Ruby in this episode.
I noticed that too. Is this the only episode to omit some of the core Gang members?

Littlefoot actually kinda loses his rag with Hyp on a few occasions but, as per usual, the gang sort out their differences and come through in the end ;)
Again, I just love seeing Littlefoot get angry because it rarely happens and I find it refreshing when it does. :P

Note the substitution of "The Return of the Egg Stealers," the episode just recently fabricated put into the LBT TV article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Land_Before_Time_%28TV_series%29) for "The Big Longneck Test."
That sounds like it would feature the return of Ozzy & Strut. I used to be more ambivalent about them. But I gotta admit, they'd fit in great for a "movie character" episode. :yes

I noticed a goof in this episode. The eggs were blue at first, but then they were yellow for the rest of it.
Oh, haha, I didn't realize that when I first watched the episode. :lol Although Chikara and Ratiasu raise a good point in that it might've just been because the eggs were moved out of the cave and into daylight.

Does anyone find it ironic that chomper is taking part in "egg theft" when his egg itself was moved before he hatched?
Heh, I didn't think of that, but that is indeed pretty ironic. :smile :DD

I give this episode a 6.5/10.

And with that, I have now seen all of the films and all of the episodes!!!!
:celebrate :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate

It was a fun journey.
