Title: Just Got Back from Amazing Spider Man
Post by: Cyberlizard on June 30, 2012, 02:59:59 AM
It just came out today in Japan, and I was one of the first to see it since midnight releases apparently don't exist in Kumamoto.   :confused

Either way.  I was pretty optimistic from the start, especially after seeing the first trailer where Spidey was in the back of a car talking smack to a carjacker.

I just got back from seeing it...  Holy crap was that the fastest two hours of my life!  I didn't think the movie was long enough because I was having a blast the whole way through it!  Anybody who said it was too early to reboot spiderman...  :slap

It kicked all three of Raimi's films so hard they should be halfway to Jupiter by now.  I don't even want to remember them anymore.   :p

And I'm not being biased because of the Lizard.  Honestly, Curt Connors is better when he's not a giant green human with a tail. :lol  What really shines here is the new Peter Parker and his relationship with Gwen Stacey.  This movie is packed with so much quick-paced emotional tension that I almost cried during the infamous scene involving a certain burglar.  And in the Raimi film, that part came off as really forced and awkward to me.

Almost everything in the movie is streamlined and cut together perfectly.  In all honesty, I wouldn't put this above the Avengers though.  That will still be the best comic book movie in my opinion for a long, long time.  But the Amazing Spider Man is a brilliant runner up for the summer movie season.

I haven't seen it yet, and I can already tell this'll be my reaction to the flick. Ugh. The soon Raimi's trash heap spidey movies are forgotten and overtaken by this, the better.

I doubt anyone is going to forget about Raimi's Spiderman movies. They weren't that bad really. I saw the first one. The only one that didn't do so well was the third one. First and second were fine.

I'm not sure if I'll see this or not. I'm not big into superhero movies. Only saw the first Raimi Spiderman because I was dragged into it. My sister, who is a big fan of the Raimi Spiderman movie trilogy, is excited for this reboot.

I think they will. The Raimi Spider-Man films are utterly forgettable.

Just watched MovieBob's review. He had a...different reaction to this movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing this on Saturday. I liked the previous three movies, so I'm curious how this reboot will go.

For me it was worth watching.  I'd totally go see it again if I could.  I've heard there's a lot of mixed feelings going around as to how good or bad it is.  Some people really hate it, others like myself really like it.  To each his own I guess.

WHen was the last time MovieBob actually knew what he was talking about?

You do realize that Moviebob is a movie critic right? He has a vast knowledge of history involving TV and movie. He is paid for this job and he's not going to take it lightly. Moviebob does know what he's talking about. It is a matter of opinion, and just because you disagree doesn't make his opinion less valid, and it doesn't mean that he doesn't know much. I've seen the stuff he writes, I've seen the stuff he says about movies, about history of movies, stuff regarding comics, etc, and he is very well knowledgeable in many areas. But just because he knows a lot in this field doesn't mean that he is going to like all the same movies as you. It is a matter of opinion, not fact. He simply has a different taste in movies.

Okay Moviebob posted up a new video and this time he goes into more detail about what he didn't feel worked about the movie. He's notably calmer in this video than in the last video in my opinion.

He does seem like a pretty reasonable person with a lot of knowledge about the subject.

And just because he doesn't like The Amazing Spiderman doesn't mean no one else is allowed to like it. My brother and youngest sister both saw it and thought it was amazing. The reason for posting Moviebob's review was just to add to the topic.

I just found a video about a James Cameron Spiderman that was almost made. I just saw this video about it. It's hilarious. :lol

Probably my favorite flop about this is the whole "Dr. Octo..no Professor Octopus calls himself Spiderman." bit. I'm not surprised the script was that horrible. James Cameron was, if I heard right, forced to write it; I doubt he had any real interest in writing a Spiderman movie.

And what of it? I disagree completely when anyone asserts that he has the slightest clue what he talks about.

This is the same guy who attacked Halo for being "racist". He steadfastly refused to do any real research so everything in that video was outright wrong or misplaced. Bob managed to misintertret one of the textbook examples of Scary Dogmoatic Aliens as "an ethnically diverse and more interesting force work to a common goal" despite one of their primary motications in the game being genecide. And then he compared the series to Nazi Germany without even bothering to read up on the plots of Halo 2 and 3. He calls the supersoldiers "fascists", yet lets the Covenant get a free pass?

Let's not even get started on his "review" of Book of Eli where he asserts that God backing the hero makes him invincible. Said hero dies of mortal wounds at the end, so there goes that claim.

Then let's bring up his "Avatar" "review" where he insulted anyone who brought up even the slightest flaw with the movie (myself, included).

Then there's the fact that he feels he's qualified to talk about the Mass Effect series despite not being interested in them despite having done no research and having no first-hand knowledge about them.

No, Dark, I will not be respecting what he has to say anytime soon.

I loved Amazing Spiderman, but I have to agree that the original three will not be forgotten. In my mind, there is a place for them still. They are more comic book like because of their blend of humor and over-the-top characters and villains. Amazing Spiderman is much more dark and modern and the characters are a little more subtle in execution. Let's not forget that before The Dark Knight came around, Spiderman 2 was considered by many to be the best superhero movie of all time. Even if Spiderman 3 was a disappointment, there are still those that enjoy them.

I never understand why Spider-Man 2 was considered one of the best. I'd rather watch Punaman than see that film again.

I saw it this weekend and loved it. I thought the new Uncle Ben was almost better than the old one. Lizardman was interesting, although I still consider the goblin my favorite villian. I like the originals, but this was by far the most epic. Ca't wait for the 2nd one!
