Title: New NIMH film in the works

News is a bit old but I just discovered it on animatednews.com

I think its going to be a tough act to put up, especially if people have seen Don Bluth's version, despite its differences from the novel.  I don't know if this will give us another dark film like Bluth did but I guess it could happen.  NIMH isn't a bubblegum pop, sugary story.

Thoughts?

Well, I'm not really going to make judgements now. When it comes out I'll see it. :) If I don't like I don't like it, if I do, I do.

Personally, I LOVED the original. ^_^ It some mystical elements that really appealed to me.

I wonder if it'll be as good as the first movie, better, or worst.

It's hard for any sequel to be just as good or better than the first.  I still prefer the original over the only other sequel.

This isn't a sequel as far as I can tell...Its a remake of the book Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.  So it'll be kind of like that Charlotte's Web remake...not meant to continue but...update the film I guess.

I wish they wouldn't remake films.  Especially Nimh, I remember the aniamtion and the ''magic'' that Bluth puts into all of his animations.  Nothing really can compare to that.

While that's true, Bluth's magic scenes are not even part of the story.  That's telling me that this adaptation might be more faithful to the story, so the films may not even be alike.

Some may like the new one more then the original film, especially if it is closer to the book.

I hope they follow the book more closer, instead of concentrating of living up to Bluth's vision. His version was good, but not the definitive version of NIMH.

I happen to know how much the book and the movie differ from one another since I read the book and have seen the movie.

I even did a book report on Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of Nimh.  You seriously can't summarize this book without spoiling it.  I ended up doing 3 pages worth for the report, and that was in the traditional 10 size New Romans Text print.

In my opinion, Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of Nimh is a wonderful book, and if ANYONE does a movie of it, they had better get it right.  If the movie doesn't turn out well, I won't be pulling ANY punches on the director.

Or the writer, for that matter. <_<

I'll definitely be one harsh critic on them if they fail at this one.

If they do you could do a review something like the Nostalgia Critic style.

Not really in his style since he knows certain things that I don't. (ie Green Screen) But yeah, I could do a video review of some sort if things don't go well.  Maybe just do like others, showing footage of the movie while speaking, because that's really all I know how to do in that area. :nyah

We'll see, though.

So John, what did you think of Bluth's adaptation?  According to you anyway, he didn't get it right.

Now when did I say that?  I think you misunderstood one of my messages.

Anyways, I feel that the movie Bluth made was quite good.  One of the darkest movies I have seen in the longest time.  I feel that The Secret of Nimh is one of those movies that you can't see as an adaptation of a book, but rather a movie in it's own right.

The Secret of Nimh is VERY underrated because SO many people try to compare it to the book.  It's not like the book, but it's own original movie.  That's where it really shines.

With the first viewing, I was trying to wrap my head around the fact that this was a rated G movie.  I mean, even a kid having a potty mouth would alert quite a few "mothers" out there, and how did they get away with the fight scene?  I mean, seriously, there was blood, and I'm sure that alerted some parents too.  Not to mention it's freaking dark!  And it's still G rated?  A part of me thinks Bluth, (or someone else on his team for that matter) paid those "Movie Raters" under the table to get that rating.

Anyways, despite those little things, it's a great film.  I definitely see it as Don Bluth's best work, period.  I hate to say it around here, but it's better than The Land Before Time.  I would recommend that anyone out there to see the film if they get the chance.

Wait!  You actually do have the chance to see it on the internet these days.  Not just YouTube, but also at Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/the-secret-of-nimh) of all places. (According to sources, the last week of May is when it was put up.) So, go ahead and watch it.  Right now!  Go!  You'll love it, I promise!

Anyone who doesn't like it either likes the book too much, or they just simply don't know squat about classic animation.

At least, that's my opinion on the haters out there.

This sounds interesting, but I don't trust the producer. Anyone who thought Spy Kids was a good idea doesn't seem like the type who should be producing this film to me.

I'm not looking forward to this version at ALL. I saw the first release of the news, and I quickly said "No!"
I gotta say that the DB film is actually better than the book...a lot better. Especially Nicodemus in the movie (that was awesome).

Now that Jedi mentioned it being produced by the Spy Kids producer, my wish to see it has gone down even lower.

Now, I am MUCH more surprised that Watership Down was rated G than NIMH was. Indeed there was quite a bit of blood in NIMH, there was so much more in Watership...not to mention that the dog was tearing those "cute little bunnies" a part, and the rabbits were doing worse to each other (namely Roundwort vs. Bigwig)

I don't think it's possible to be worse than NIMH 2. 'Course I may regret those words upon seeing this new one.

I don't have high expectations, but you never know, they may surprise me.

If it's the person who did that movie it sounds like a bad choice.  I didn't see spy kids but from the trailers I could tell I'd not enjoy it at all.

I guess in the past the movie rating board was looser then they are currently.
