Embarrassing

For me, it's never been a matter of embarassment. More than anything, it concerns my little brother.

My Dad might crack a couple of jokes. My Mom probably wouldn't care, but either way, she'd forget about it as soon as she starts to fix dinner. My older brother would go "Are you serious?", shake his head, then shut himself in his room.

But my little brother? Oh, man. Guarranteed, he'd spend every moment he could for at least two weeks hassling me about it. I'd walk out of the bathroom, he'd be waiting just beyond the door to tell me "Not even just the first one, but all the direct-to-video sequels and the ****ty show too?! Come on, grow some balls!" He'd make sure to deny me as many quiet moments as possible.

He'd never truly stop, either. After the first couple of weeks, he'd just annoy at random, but especially at the dinner table. Always likes him an audience, that one.

And the sad part is, judging by the fact that he still hasn't let go of the time he 'caught' me watching The Lion King even though he respects Jeremy Irons, I might actually be underestimating the effort he'd put in.

So really, it's not what anyone thinks, it's what my little brother does about it that's got me worried.

He shouldn't be allowed to do that. You should talk to your parents about this directly. There's nothing wrong with liking a kids show. I never get any problems with my family about it. In fact, my mother says they're "cute movies." Again, just talk it over with your parents.

I'd be really upset if someone in my family treated my that way because of one of the things I liked.  That kinda treatment is what I'd expect out of my worst enemy, not my little brother.

Just ignore him. Sounds like he's just doing that to make you angry.  If you don't show any sort of reaction to anything he says, he'll probably lose interest and stop.

And how can he go on about you watching Lion King? That movie is considered "suitable for grownups" by most people. An Oscar winning movie after all with music that was high up in the charts, a great story, great animation. I suppose many of those who would raise an eyebrow at LBT would not do so about the Lion King. With the rest of your family apparently thinking along the same lines it looks like your brother would be rather isolated with his pesty behaviour.

A little off topic, but I never really liked the lion king.  It was an odd show to say the least.

OT: anyways, yeah just ignore him and he should leave ya alone.  When my cousin won't leave me alone, I threaten to beat him up.  I never do it, but it sure makes him behave.  Works every time. :D

Hmm. I never considered TLK as "odd". Have you even seen it?

Of course I've seen the lion king.  I just thought that the characters were a bit odd and I never really thought that a lion could be made into a decent cartoon but it was and I just found that a little creepy.

To be honest, I prefer The Lion King over the LBT sequels (not sure if I prefer it over the original), no offense to anyone here.

Anyway, back on the subject. I never really told my family directly I liked LBT, but I think they know I still have some interest in it, since they saw me rent LBT10 and LBT12 when they came out in the video stores. They've never really said anything to me about it though.

The only time ever I remember being "mocked" for liking LBT was when I had a quarrel with my sister over some totally different cause (I don't even remember what it was about). I was watching LBT and my sister entered the room while the scene was on in which Littlefoot's mum described the Great Valley. My sister mocked a line of Littlefoot's mother. It did not upset me too much, but later on she explicitly apologized for that one, so it really wasn't too bad.

Oh, I've tried the simple ignore method. Doesn't work, he uses the silence to his advantage.

And the Lion King situation may have sounded a little worse than I intended. He doesn't actually annoy me about it any more(it only lasted a day). What he will do is tell friends and family randomly that I watched it, like it's something bad. And, like, once every three months. That's what I meant by "still hasn't let go". Minor annoyance, really.

In fact, none of his stuff is really that bad, it's just that he's never had ammo quite as big as the LBT series. The first movie alone might be just barely worse than TLK. The rest of the series would probably set off the cannon.

Even then, I don't really fear it. I'm not exactly doing my best to hide my fandom, he just doesn't poke around in my business. Like, at all. He'd have a pretty good chance of finding me out by just walking into my room when I'm eating lunch or something and turning on the monitor.

Anyway, just to clear it up, that last post was about what I think he'd do, not how I'd react to it. Realistically, he'd walk up to my door and pound on it, then I'd put on my headphones and crank up the tunes. I'm tellin' ya, that musical addition is what makes the ignore method work. Oh, and a lock on your door. Gotta have that :D

Sorry if I got you guys all worried or something :P

Well, than it¥s okey, I mean, if you have a problem how we thought it, I would say him, what¥s on. Cause everybody have his boundarys, and if anybody goes over this boundarys, that¥s not right.

Now that I think about it, in my family, the only one who would have a problem with this is my older brother, aside from the fact that he considers it a kids show, he thinks it's childish for someone of my age to be watching this.

And he always seems to catch me wacthing them only when I absolutly feel I want to :slap ...and of course he still to this day will rant and rav about it for maybe five minutes at most...then he'll walk away and shut up and eventually forget about it....but the look on his face when he found out about the TV seires was priceless. I'm sure I wolud've chocked myself on my breakfast ceral from laughing too hard   :D , it honestly looked like he had just seen something totally bizarre...

so as long as I don't metion LBT around him, I can safly indulge in my fandom...

(And a locked door with a VCR and DVD palyer doesn't hurt either... ;) )

Hearing some of these stories makes me feel blessed that I have a family that understands. This is probably what makes teenage LBT fans lurk behind the shadows to avoid being seen. A sad situation, indeed.

Well, it kind of is, and kind of isn't. I remember when I was 12 or so that I partially admitted to liking LBT, and boy was I in for torment. All kinds of cold, callous girls calling me a "Land Before Time lover" in a derogative and degrading term. I was nearly crying from all the names, and some people at school still think that anyone who likes LBT is a "retard", of course, this is coming from people who think any bloody, sex-filled movie is a masterpiece.  To this day, I have no clue as of why I was born in a state filled with such idiocy and ignorance. I watch them any chance I get at home, but I try my best not to mention it anywhere outside of it.

I think Malte or someone else said that you shouldn't flaunt it, but let the people that need/want to know know.

Yeah it was Malte who said that.  It's good advice for us all.  You don't wanna go showing it to everybody by blasting LBT music out of your speakers while walking down the hall or something. Telling people in a more suble matter is more advisable.

I'm glad I didn't do that, or I wouldn't be here typing this right now.

Actually in the get-to-know-each-other portion of class today (first week back) I stated that was the movie I'd watched the most (LBT, first one)
