To play this game, the poster has to think of an animal, vegetable, or mineral. Then, they must tell the players which one of those three it is. The posters then have 20 posts to guess what the item is, by asking questions, and then when they think they have enough information, by asking "is it a_____". Whoever guesses it gets to go. If no one guesses it, the original poster of the question says who goes next.
And the questions have to be in a YES or NO format.
I'll begin.
I'm thinking of a mineral.
-
Is it something you can hold in your hand?
-
Yes. 19 questions left.
-
is it soft?
-
No. 18 questions left.
-
is it valuable?
-
Yes. 17 questions left.
-
is it used in jewelry?
-
Yes. 16 questions left.
-
Is it silver?
-
No. 15 questions left.
-
is it hard?
-
Yes. 14 questions left.
-
Is it something you wear around your finger?
-
Yes. 13 questions left. I hope I'm not making it too easy.
-
Is it a Diamond ring?
-
No. 12 questions left.
-
Is it diamond?
-
Is it a class ring?
-
No to both. 10 question left.
-
(Hey! There are two pages, and ten questions per page! A perfect split!)
Is it a jewel?
-
Yes. Nine questions left. I'm looking for a specific kind of object. "Jewel" is too vague, but is on the right track.
-
Is the type of jewel related to a birthstone?
-
Yes. Nine questions left. I'm looking for a specific kind of object. "Jewel" is too vague, but is on the right track.
I knew, that was desgined as a "narrowing down" question, not a solution.
I'll wait until you answer pokeplayer before trying again.
-
Yes. Eight Questions left. And I was just covering all bases with that explanation.
-
Is the month associated with the birthstone among those from January to July?
-
Yes. Seven questions left.
-
Is the month that's associated with the birthstone start with a J?
-
Yes. You'll almost certainly get this one. I made it too easy, didn't I? Six questions left. I'm only surprised it took more than 10 to get it...
-
This final question will give away the answer. :)
Is the jewel colored red?
-
Yes. Five questions left. You know what it is by now, I'm sure...
-
Does it share it's name with a LBT character?
(c'mon, long as we've got the free questions, might as well use em.)
-
Yes. Four questions left. Just say it already, and it will be your turn. :lol
I should have said something impossible to guess... like Beryllium. :DD
-
I know what it is.
The answer is...
A Ruby. :)
-
Correct. A rather obvious, well-heard of gemstone. My birthstone, no less.
Your turn, pokeplayer.
-
Okay, for this one I'm thinking of an animal.
-
Does it have scales?
-
No!
-
19 questions left. Is it a mammal?
-
No!
-
18 questions left. Does it live in water?
-
Is it a bird?
-
No and No!
-
Does it live underground?
-
Yes, for most of it's life.
-
Yes! We got a "yes" out of ya! ;)
Is it's skin a bit slimy?
-
No!
-
15 questions left. Is it an insect?
-
Yes!
-
14 questions left. Is it a cricket?
-
Nope! Not that insect! :D
-
13 questions left. Does it fly?
-
Yes, but only when it's in it's adult stage.
-
Is it an ant?
-
Nope! Not even close!
-
11 questions left. Is it a grasshopper?
-
Do humans commonly like this creature?
-
Is it a Cicada?
-
We have 9 questions left so far...
-
Okay, let's try to do this in order.
Is it a grasshopper?
No!
Do humans commonly like this creature?
Humans only usually feel bothered by the adult form.
Is it a Cicada?
Nope!
We have 9 questions left so far...
And at this rate, I doubt you'll get it. :)
-
8 questions left. Is it a locust?
-
Nope!
-
Is it a mosquito?!
-
Nope!
-
6 questions left... is it a mantis?
-
No!
-
5 questions left...
-
I want to guess "Is it a Termite?" but I'm not going to because we've wasted almost all our questions on specific bug species. People, when you want to guess a type of bug, instead guess a question that would confirm your guess, and knock out a bunch of others at the same time. Take my actual question, which is:
"Does this species have a queen?"
(This question knocks out termites and bees and a few others, instead of just termites.)
-
No, it does not.
-
4 questions left... is it a dragonfly?
-
No!
I have a feeling I'm going to win! :)
-
3 questions left... to recap:
-It is an insect.
-It flies when it is an adult.
-Can annoy people when it is an adult.
-Not a colonizing insect (not a bee, wasp, hornet, ant, or termite)
-Not a grasshopper, locust, cicada, mantis, cricket, or mosquito either.
-Lives underground for most of its life.
Is it a kind of beetle?
-
Nope!
-
2 questions left. We're probably not going to guess it... insects are a good choice of animal in this game, as there are so many kinds of them...
-
It is a decomposer? Meaning it eats dead things?
-
Nope!
Okay, you guys are down to your last guess. Take all the information you have, and good luck. :)
-
Another breakdown:
-It is an insect.
-It flies when it is an adult.
-Can annoy people when it is an adult.
-Not a colonizing insect (not a bee, wasp, hornet, ant, or termite)
-Not a grasshopper, locust, cicada, mantis, cricket, dragonfly, or mosquito either. (dang, we wasted a lot of votes)
-Not a type of beetle.
-Lives underground for most of its life.
I'm not guessing. I have no clue.
-
Wise decision to back out, LB&T. Anyone else?
-
Last guess... crane fly. It flies as an adult, spends most of its life underground, is not a colonizing insects, is NOT a locust, cricket, grasshopper, dragonfly, beetle, or cicada, and it can certainly annoy people.
Even if it meets the criteria, I could still be wrong if you picked another one that matches what you said. I also thought it could be a kind of moth...
To recap: Crane fly. Final answer.
-
Sorry!
The answer is...
The antlion. :)
Now, some of you are thinking of the one that digs traps in the sand and are saying that I lied. Well, not really. You see, the truth of the matter is that the one form of antlion everyone knows is the larval form of the particular insect. It does indeed spend most of it's life underground. However, when it's time, it forms a cocoon of sand and silk. After only a few weeks, it comes out as an adult, flies off to find a mate, and then after mating, it never eats again.
During the time it searches for a mate, it most likely eats pollen or nectar, but some still prey on the insects they hunted in their larval form. (They actually eat more than ants. Pretty much any insect that is foolish enough to get too close.)
Also, in some cases, if they land on a human, they deliver a small, bothersome bite.
Hehe! Got you guys good, huh? :)
-
Does it annoy humans? That was an important criteria... if it doesn't, that was a flawed set of questions... or, at least that "annoying" part. I chose the crane fly over several others because of that (antlion was not one of them at this point, but aphid was, and I would have added more to the list over time.) <_<
-
Whatever. So does pokeplayer go again, or what?
-
He says who he wants to go next. If he doesn't show up in a day or so, you can go because he and I already went.
And make sure the question and answer criteria match. If you are unsure about a question's answer, you can look it up online. If anything, it is my fault for not mentioning that in the first place. :slap
-
I'll let LB&T go next. :)
-
Well, since we've had an animal and a mineral, I'll do a vegetable.
-
Does it have green parts?
-
Aye. 19 questions to go.
-
Is it larger than a human?
-
This is a hard one to answer. The plant could be, I guess. Eventually.
-
(assume this is a fully grown plant, that answer isn't a "yes" or "no")
-
Shoulda just said no. I'm overthinking this. 18 questions left.
-
Does it have wood on it?
-
Is the first letter to this veggie a "c"?
-
Double no. 16 questions left.
-
Does the plant's name (not the scientific name) begin with a letter after "M"?
-
No. 15 questions left.
-
Is it edible to humans?
-
Ay. 14 questions left.
-
Is it a vegetable that both kids and adults would prefer not eating?
-
No. 13 questions left.
-
Is it something people usually eat without processing it first (like potatoes are processed into french fries, for example?)
-
Yep! ^^ 12 questions left
(I'm taking over for LB&T since he's not going to be at the GOF for awhile, so go ahead and ask your questions)
-
(Did he tell you what it was? Note that this does not count as a question for the game!)
-
(Yeah. :) )
-
Okay: to recap
- It is usually eaten unprocessed.
- It has some green on it
- It IS edible
- It starts with A-M, but NOT the letter C (Not cabbage, not cauliflower, not broccoli, not Brussels sprouts, not carrots, peas, not zucchini, not squash, not pumpkin, not potatoes, not arugula, not tomatoes, not taro, not oranges, not olives, not onions, not radishes, not rutabaga, not wheat, not soy, not sugarcane, not strawberries, not raspberries, not parsley... etc)
- Has no wood on it
- Does not grow to be larger than a human (but might eventually?)
- Not a "vegetable that adults and kids would not prefer eating." This one is a terrible question. Really. It is only based on an opinion, not a fact. The question can be totally different depending on the personal tastes and experiences of the one who asks and the one who answers.
-NOT a root crop.
-
Is it a root crop?
-
Is it maize?
-
Nope to both. 10 questions left.
-
Does it start with a letter before "G"?
-
Nope. 9 questions left. :)
-
is it a common food?
-
Does it start with or before the letter "I"?
-
@Nick: Yes, in certain countries it is.
@Noname: Nope sorry. :p
7 questions left. ;)
-
Don't be sorry, that helped me a LOT!
If it doesn't start with or before "I", and it only goes up to "M", it can only start with , J, K, L, or M"
And since Kale is a root crop, it isn't that!
-
LBT told you that? haha, he lied. :p
It DOES start with a letter before "I". :p
-
Actually, YOU messed it up, Rat Lady.
I asked "Does it start with or before the letter "I"? "
And you answered:
"@Noname: Nope sorry"
So now, it DOES begin with a letter before I. This means it is "A, B, D, E, F, G, or H" (no C)
It still cannot be apples or bananas because those grow on trees, which have wood. It could never be pears, now that I think of it...
-
Okkkkk I misread it then. :p
-
is it a grape? it grows on vines..
-
Nope. 6 questions left.
-
Is it a berry? (not eggplant! Eggplant is a root crop!)
-
Nope, it's not a berry.
I might as well say it...it is eggplant....
I just wasn't reading the eggplant thing carefully and I really don't know too much about it...so....yeah sorry guys...I apologize for my miscommunication. :slap
-
Is it eggplant? If so, I had guessed it, and I make it official now. That was misleading... eggplant IS a root crop!
If you are going to name an item or be the custodian of one, you need to know about what it is. Saying it is not what it is throws the whole game off.
I got it. I'll go now.
-
your turn noname
-
I'm thinking of a mineral.
-
is it soft?
-
No. 19 questions left.
-

Noname...give me a break okay? It was a mistake.
-
It's fine, Rat Lady. This is the third time it has happened in this thread alone (second time for you, Ratty Girl. :DD )
Anyway, as a note to all other players, make sure you get the "yes" or "no" answers correct. Don't say "no" when it really should be answered "yes", and vice versa.
-
is the mineral valuable?
-
Yes. 18 questions left.
-
Nick22 and I ran through many more questions on MSN. I'll leave the last 5 for others to use...

Noman/Aristocles says:

Please don't call me that... :p
Anyway...is this mineral used in medicines?
