I was wondering if some have various favorite anime and may enjoy talking a bit about their various favorites or just some you've seen. While, hopefully, avoiding wither dubbed or subtitled is better, that many anime fans seem to argue about.
I've seen some various types such as:
Akira,
Casshan the Robot Hunter
Gunsmith Cats
Record or Lodoss War (seen some of both but not all of either)
Rune Soldier
Spirited Away
Starblazers (not seen all of the series yet) + movie version
Vampire Hunter D + Bloodlust
And some others. Didnt' want the list to be to long. May add some later.
-
I guess the list can include tv episodes and movies. I haven't seen much.
- some of Miyazaki's work (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Laputa, Totoro)
- Wolf's Rain (whole thing)
- the early seasons of Pokemon
- some of Cowboy Bebop
That's about it. I won't touch a lot of the fighting ones.
-
There's a ton of anime that I just love.
-Pokemon
-Neon Genesis Evangelion
-Trinity Blood
-Astro Boy
-Shin Chan
-Blood+
-Bleach
-Trigun
-The Animatrix
-Ghost in the Shell
-Full Metal Alchemist
-Ghost in the Shell
-
I don't watch anime as much as I used to, but some anime I liked include:
Pokemon
Digimon
Monster Rancher
Sailor Moon
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbor Totoro
Gundam Wing SD
Tenchi Muyo
Dragon Ball Z
.hack//SIGN
Outlaw Star
Zoids
Detective Conan
Escaflowne
Rozen Maiden
Hamtaro
-
Quite a few actually
-Dragon Ball Z
-Astro Boy
-MegaMan.EXE
-MegaMan Axess
-MegaMan Stream
-MegaMan Beast
-MegaMan Star Force
-Early seasons of Pokemon
-Digimon
-Final Fantasy: Unlimited
-Legend of the Mystical Ninja
-Wolf's Rain
-Yu-Gi-Oh
-Sonic X
-
I forgot about Trigun, I've seen the first 4 or so episodes, seemed a good anime. Need to get back to watching the rest of the series.
-
I haven't seen much of the stuff in my life and I haven't liked it much, but here's what I've seen:
Pokemon
Inuyahsa
Blood +
Full Metal Alchamist(God I can't spell)
Digimon
I'd have to say that inuyasha has to be my favorite and digimon my least favorite. I don't really like any of them too much though. Nothing like LBT in my book :D
-
I've only seen three anime shows: Sailor Moon, the Dragonball trilogy, and Pokemon.
All three are extremely repetitive (but isn't that some sort of cutural norm for the Japanese?), but they all have their interesting characters. I have a tendency to like the antagonists, specifically the first ones that appear on the show. For a while I was re-watching Sailor Moon, both subbed and dubbed, up until Jedite was crystalized...I kind of liked it - I thought Jedite was a neat character. Getting run over by a jet only left him limping.
As for Dragonball, I only (if accidentally) managed to catch any of the episodes having to do with the Red Ribbon Army, whether it be the army itself, Dr. Gero and his androids, or Super 17.
As for Pokemon...well, I'm still watching that - the newest season, Diamond and Pearl, is completely unpredicatable and the writers are practically breaking traditions at nearly every turn! The Characters-of-the-Day and all the Pokemon actually have personalities, plus there are formidable Hunters like J, who turns Pokemon into gold and sells them for profit (she managed to capture Ash's Pikachu, Team Rocket's Meowth, an Absol and a Gardevior in less than 10 minutes), and real jerks like Paul (watch Diamond/Pearl season episode 51: "Chimchar vs. Zangoose! Battle of Fate!" to see how harsh with training he can be).
As for movies, so far I have seen Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Howl's Moving Castle...I might have missed a few, though...
-
My viewing of anime is quite limited to Digimon, PokÈmon, and Sonic X.
-
I just mainly watch Pom Poko. It's a nice anime movie about a group of transforming tunakis (racoons in the dubbed form).
-
Has anyone here seen inuyasha? It's a lot better than I thought it would be. It would have to be my second favorite "animated" show besides LBT, even though it doesn't even come close to it in the race for my favorite show. I downloaded all 167 eps and I'm quite impressed by the animation. Being able to understand the Japanese version helps a lot. It's a lot better than the translated version of it cuz you get a better perception of the characters.

I don't actually like a lot of anime, at all. I've sampled far more animes than what I listed, but I just listed the ones I liked. Anime is just not my genre.
-
Is it any one thing you dislike, or just anime in general. Everything can't appeal to everyone afterall. I like certain anime, but I have to overlook certain things like the large eyes and a few other things.
-
It's hard for me to pick just a few anime as my favourites, but I supposed I'd go with:
Gankutsuo - The Count of Monte Cristo
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
Fullmetal Alchemist
Nerima Daikon Brothers
Ouran High-School Host Club
Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex
-
Never watched inuyasha. Maybe over Christmas break or something I'll go browse the fansub communities. Not the first time I've been told its not that bad.
-
167 episodes? Sounds like it tells a very long story. I've only heard of 2 others that may be about that long, isn't Ranma 1/2 long, and Gatchaman is 105.
-
I'm quite a fan of the following,
Elfen Lied (gruesome, but beautiful)
Ginga Densetsu Weed
Ginga: Nagareboshi gin
Wolf's Rain
Grave of the Fireflies (WARNING: over-sensitive hearts do NOT watch!)
A lot of Miyazaki films
-
I'm surprised that I forgot to add Sonic X to the list. It is considered anime, isn't it?
-
Why hasn't anyone said Berserk, yet?

I actually agree with this, though it's entirely personal preference. I have seen a few (not by choice :p I have a friend who makes me sit down and watch anime with him fairly often). I can't explain truly why I'm not an anime fan...After all, the stories and characters are generally fantastic; great fight scenes, powerful emotional moments. What's not to like?
I think the powerfully-immersive nature of anime is what I don't like. Anime seems to form a sort of parallel in my mind as the "MMO-RPGs of media", if that makes any sense. Fantastic design concepts, very deep, strong communities, Huge variety...to the point where it seems like almost too much...but I know that isn't the only reason I'm not an anime fan. As for what the full reason is...I suppose I'm just not willing to give anime the dedication it deserves. It's hard to watch most anime casually; It's too good for that. I just don't want to get into anime that much.
-
I may (note "may") be missing out on some animes that I would like, but, again, anime is not my genre. On another note, now that my local FOX affiliate has began airing Sonic X again (I've just now noticed...), I've became a quick fan of that....
-
My list:
1. FullMetal Alchemist
2. Utawaremono
3. Gundam Seed
4. Trigun
5. .hack/SIGN
6. Haibane Remnei
7. Serial Experiment Lain
8. Neon Genesis Evangelion
9. Cowboy Bebop
10. Rurouni Kenshin

I must say landbeforetimelover I find it interesting that you took a particular liking to Inuyasha. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I've seen some episodes and it's a great show, even though I never really got into it. It's just that you never really made any kind of reference to deeply liking any show other than LBT, and I didn't expect it to be that particular anime. :p
And I can't believe I haven't seen anybody write Avatar yet! Well, unless it's not considered to be anime, though I think it is, and you can always tell just by the style of the art.
Anyway that show is amazing and is most likely my absolute favorite show in the world. I have never been so drawn to an animated series before.
-
I kind of doubt that Avatar is considered anime. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's from Japan.
-
Maybe not...I don't know. But either way, it ranks above all other shows I like :p
-
Well, the stlye is close enough to 'real' anime for me to group it with others and rank it as such.
-
I like Pokemon and Dinosaur King.
-
Why hasn't anyone said Berserk, yet?
Because the series isn't that great. The opening episode gives away the end, and the end, itself, renders the rest of the series pointless. While the point they may have been trying to bring home is that you have to follow your own path, it basically ends up "Life sucks, then you get ripped to shreds by demons...or horribly raped".
-
Here's my list of favs:
(In no particular order)
Pokemon
Digimon
Sonic X (Japanese version)
Dragonball Z
Yugioh
Yugioh GX
Spirited Away
Astro Boy (Remade version)
Monster Rancher
Salior Moon
Princess Mononoke
All of the Megaman Animes
Kirby of the Stars
Fruits Basket
Powerpuff Girls Z
Whew! What a list!
If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask. :^.^:
-
I have a general anime question.
Why is it that the names of various characters are changed or not completely translated? PokÈmon comes to mind. The literal English translation is Satoshi or something like that, but they made in Ash in the English series. Wouldn't it be simpler to make the translations more acurate and true?

Ah, what you witness in name changes is the classic result of what happens when subpar dubbing companies like 4Kids gets hold of the rights to dub an anime.
In many results, it is a simple mistranslation because of the accent most Japanese people have. For example, in Japan, Kirby is actually Kabbii, but because of the way it is pronounced, it is VERY easy to mistranslate it. It is the same result of Marik from Yugioh! His real name is Malik, but the accent just makes it sound different.
In the case of Satoshi being Ash Ketchum, the name change was to promote the catchphrase, "Gotta catch 'em all!" that has made Pokemon the world wide phenomion it is today. However, I have NO idea where the "Ash" part came from. THAT is ANYONE's guess. :)
-
Also, the lack of the R sound in the Japanese language accounts for a lot. Like in Inuyahsa, the character Miroku is actually pronounced miloku (mill-low-ku) in Japanese and the character Kilala is actually spelled kirara. L=R and R=L. Just a little thing about the Japanese language.
-
I've wondered sometimes about why certain names are changed to certain other names when brought over to the us.
-
My Faves? Here they are...
FMA
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Cardcaptors (Japanese)
Gundam Wing & G-Gundam
Digimon (I LOVE Gatomon and Renamon)
Kyo Kara Maoh!
Outlaw Star
Ruroni Kenshin
Miyazaki films
Inuyasha
Funny thing is, in the Japanese Cardcaptors, Li swears. A lot. In fact, that's where I learned how to curse in Japanese...
-
A useful skill if you find yourself in Japan. :)
I saw an episode of Outlaw Star. It looked interesting.
-
A useful skill if you find yourself in Japan. :)
More like a curse. Pun intended.
-
You know what to say during traffic in japan to fit right in.
-
I liked Castle In The Sky.
I really only watch Naruto.
-
The newer animes here are heavily censored. Naruto for example, they cut all the blood and "scary" scenes away. Sometimes even weapons. So most scenes doesn't make any sense. Even the words "death" or "kill" in german are replaced with "defeated" or "everlasting sleep". -_-
But the older shows don't. The only show i liked was One Piece. It was censored too, but not like Naruto. <_<
I also liked some "Ghibli" movies. :^.^:
-
i've seen quite a lot of anime in my life
outlaw star
dragon ball
dragon ball Z
dragon ball GT

I kind of doubt that Avatar is considered anime. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's from Japan.
According to the official Avatar website....yes it is considered an anime.
-
Ohhhh....Studio Ghibli....<3 ! I've only seen (in Order) Spirited Away, Nausica, Howl's Moving Castle ("LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO MY HAIR" :lol ), and Totoro (Sorry, Totoro, but you're NOT Mary Poppins :lol ).
Pokemon USED to be good, but now :x ...too much!
Digimon...is weird
And the Dragonball series...you call THAT voice acting?!
-
Just saw Devil May Cry anime... it Rocks!!!
-
Well lets begin the list.
Sailor Moon
Gundam 0083
G Gundam

I sure do, Inuyasha Rocks
-
What I watch has changed greatly. I now have seen all of D.Gray-Man, which rocks, Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, which rock as well.
-
I watched Inuyasha. Full Metal Alchemist, YuGi_oh, Monster Rancher, Digimon, Pokemon.. a little bit of once piece. Death Note..
-
Alright Inuyasha!
I also like Pokemon.
-
See topic title.
I'd have to say my top 5 favorite animes are:
1. Case Closed/Detective Conan (My current all-time fav.)
2. Yu Yu Hakusho
3. Yu-Gi-Oh! (The first series, not GX or 5d, though those 2 are alright IMO.)
4. Bobobo-Bo Bobo (A comedic anime I thought was hilarious.
5. Dragonball Z.
-
1. Pokemon
2. Yugioh(Not the new ones)
3. Case Closed
4. Big O
5. Inyuasha (Hopefully I spelled it right.)
These are what I watch.
-
Just to let you guys know there's already a favorite anime thread currently in page 6 of this category.
And Jasper, only the 'u' and the 'y' are out of place for Inuyasha.
-
Whoops, my mistake.
-
Maybe one of the admin can merge this with that thread. They've done it before and it is possible.
As for my favorite, I've seen quite a few and some I've liked more then others for different reasons.
The 2 vampire D movies, the first one being one of the first anime I saw. Battle of the Planets being the first.
Trigun is good, and funny at least earlier on.
-
Topic merged. :) I forgot about that feature.
-
Well I don't know what my favorite ones are, but I like animes from Hayao Miyazaki, for example:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro
Porco Rosso
Pom Poko
Kiki's Delivery Service
Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away
and so on...
When I was a child, I always watched Dragonball, and sometimes Sailor Moon with my little sister. :lol Now, as I feel myself as a grownup, I'm watching LBT of course. :DD
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a great one too.
-
Well, I'm pretty much off of anime now because I don't really like fillers. Plus, the manga is all I need.
-
Ginga too!
-
Cased Closed and Inuyasha, also FullMetal Alchemist is good. I watch a lot of Adul Swim, so I've caught a lot of anime..
-
I'm looking to expand my anime collection. I've went through and deleted everything I didn't absolutely love and I'm left with only 289gb of movie files. It's not enough to keep me busy. Not in my book anyways. :p
So, any anime in particular you'd recommend? And PLEASE, it has to be complete. I'm not going to download 50gb of a story that's been canceled or isn't finished yet. :bang
-
Once again, I'm back on anime. Current anime watch list:
- Gundam 00
- Gundam X
- Gundam Wing
- Outlaw Star
- Gundam SEED
- Gundam SEED Destiny
Yes. I've gotten hooked onto the Gundam meta-series. And I have to say, of all the series in the Gundam meta-series, Gundam 00 is one of the best.
-
I guess I forgot a list of my own:
Digimon
Wolf's Rain
Princess Mononoke
Beast Knight Gulkeeva
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
Ginga Denetsu Weed
Dogtanian & the 3 Muskehounds

I have seen so many animes that I simply cannot name any favourites anymore at this point. Whatever I name, there will be something else that I feel should be included as well. Anime has too wide a range of genres and styles to judge it from one perspective only. As such, I will simply leave my MAL (https://myanimelist.net/animelist/TheEvilHadrosaur) (My Anime List) Profile here. Those who are curious can check what I've seen and what rating I gave those shows (and if you click on them you can read the synopsis and watch promotional trailers to see if it's your cup of tea :) ).
For anime recommendations just message me, I'm sure I can find something you'll like :)
-
I found an anime, Samurai Warriors, which is based on a video game called “Samurai Warriors” a game by KOEI, the company that makes “Dynasty Warriors.”
-
Pokemon and Kimba The White Lion. Yeah, I'm not really keen to anime at all tbh. :p

Yeah. This video right here is what introduced me to Kimba The White Lion and the actual controversy itself.

Isn’t Kimba what Disney stole the Lion King from?
Allegedly yes, so much that Matthew Broderick thought that he was doing a movie remake of the TV show for like 6 months.
-
To make ammends Disney should pay the creator of Kimba with interest.
-
I can now say I have seen a bit of Beastars which is adult and not worth discussing here but it is available online and is on Netflix.
-
I haven't seen a ton of anime in my life, but I've enjoyed most of what I have seen. Digimon was a definite childhood favourite of mine.
Anyone here seen Fullmetal Alchemist? That might be my favourite anime.
-
The only animes, that I have watched regularly, were Pokemon, and Digimon. I like Digimon more. Mononoke Princess, and Spirited away are two others, which I liked, but I watched them only once, and at school. But because of, that i remembered now, maybe I will watch them again.
-

@Compsognathus: Oh, I remember those movies! I too watched them once, and at school, haha.
-
My favorite anime so far is Pokémon, because that was the first show in which I was introduced to anime. Pretty soon however, I’m gonna record Food Wars! on Toonami since it’s plot looks rather interesting…
Edit: Fixed a typo in the anime title.
-
I’ll add Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Unicorn, and Gundam Seed to my list.
-
Also gonna say Kimba, as well as Blackjack

I use to watch the Pokemon anime when it debuted, back when Pokemon first became a craze.

Those were the days, when there was only 151 Pokemon. :)

Cowboy Bebop got a live adaptation. The anime is also on Netflix, along with most of the Gundams.
