Title: How's the Weather?
Post by: The Chronicler on May 01, 2010, 12:30:53 PM
Basically, tell us about the weather at your place at the moment.

The weather here is relatively good at the moment. Despite a few clouds, it's mostly sunny. It's a little warm outside, but at least there's a light breeze.

(Edit: Could an admin please put a question mark at the end of the topic title? I wanted to put one there, but I forgot.)

This pretty much describes it.  It's a life feed.  The time is at the top:

How's the weather? I live in Indiana so it changes often. :lol

Actually it's typical spring weather: Stormy the next 2 or 3 days. Overcast, humid, temperature now hovering in low 70's.

The weather here just made a complete U-turn. It began clouding up this afternoon, and just a few minutes ago, we got a very brief storm, including one loud boom of thunder. Yes, we got just one in the 15 minutes that it rained.

It was so hot yesterday that my room remained very warm all night and I needed a fan blowing in my face so I could get some sleep. I had to open the windows this morning to cool off my room, but despite there being a breeze outside, I'm not sure if that worked.

I knew I remembered there being a topic like this somewhere.

As for the weather where I am, it's constantly been a very heavy thunderstorm for the past three hours. I've heard that there was even a tornado warning in eastern Vermont (which is very strange because you never see tornadoes in this part of the country). Fortunately, I live in the western part of Vermont, so it's just been a severe thunderstorm warning for my area. Good thing I live uphill from the river, because I see massive puddles in the yards of some of my neighbors. Hopefully, the weather will improve by tomorrow.

Speaking of tornadoes, we've had a really active tornado season this year. I've read that 2011 has been one of the worst years for tornadoes in recent memory, despite advances in forecasting technologies and warning systems.
The average amount of tornadoes appearing in certain states is 22 but this year it has been 49.

Tornadoes have hit six Southern states last month but luckily my house is still intact.

Right now, it's a bit windy here. The strange thing is that for the past couple of weeks, every Friday evening, it always seems to be windy wherever I am, or going, since it's the time that I usually go home from college (not this week, though).

We also has a few inches of snow yesterday, but it's been so warm today (and expected to continue to be warm over the weekend) that it's all melting away pretty quickly.

Unseasonably warm today - It's 7 degrees Celsius right now (and is expected to increase overnight), and it should be just above freezing at this time of year. Quite windy, too - Heard a wind warning on the radio for overnight with gusts to 90 km/h.

Got some freezing rain last night that led to an accumulation of ice. The class that I supposed to have yesterday evening was cancelled because of it, and I could easily see why. The paths were so icy and slippery that I had to walk through the snow and mud to the side of them just to get any traction. (I honestly wasn't surprised when I saw people slipping and falling on the icy paths. :lol ) Fortunately, the ice had almost completely melted away before the first class of this morning.

Looks like tomorrow (Sunday) is going to be slightly cooler than it's been for that last few days. The daytime temperature will be just below 80F here in Vermont. Of course, I shouldn't be complaining about the heat, considering how much hotter most of the country has been. From what I've heard, only the northwest and northeast corners of the U.S. (states like Washington and those in New England) haven't been affected by the heat wave.

Last Friday was surprisingly warm, around 75F, compared to around the 40s and lower 50s on most other days this month.

After spending all winter complaining about how cold my room always seemed to get, I suddenly had to deal with my room getting too hot instead, but that only lasted for two days before plunging back to cold on Sunday. :wacko  Sure would be nice to have a little consistency.

Well, we had around 25?C / 72?F today, but meteorologists say that the temperature will fall to 6?C/ 42?F on Saturday   That's strange! But since I have some knowledge about weather and meteorology in general I can see, where they are coming from ;)
That temperature drop will cause some rain, thunderstorms are quite possible.
If anyone here has any questions concerning meteology or the current weather feel free to ask me :=)
Title: How's the Weather?

We had nearly a week of unseasonably cool temperatures for August, with the highs not exceeding 78?F and moderate rainfall every other day.  Unfortunately, this cool spell seems to be coming to an end.  Today the temperature got up to 88 ?F and there are now 90s in the extended forecast.

Oh well, I guess I cannot complain.  At least we no longer have the severe drought and 100+ temperatures that we had this time last year.

Weather seems to have been rather consistent this summer. Temperatures typically in the mid 80s F, some days would reach lower 90s, then after a day or two of thunderstorms would drop to the upper 70s, then a few days later return to the 80s. The air conditioner in my room has been able to keep me comfortable. A rather surprising improvement from last year is that I'm getter far fewer bugs in my room. Must be due to the cardboard scraps I taped up around the air conditioner to cover up any potential gaps.

The weather has finally turned cooler, but unfortunately this is not supposed to last. The temperatures have fallen into the low 80s but should increase into 90s by the weekend.  The extended outlook calls for a hot, dry pattern for the next two weeks, which will not be good for the soybean crop in this area.

We had very severe weather today.  A Tornado Warning was issued for my area and we were subjected to 65 mile per hour wind gusts, torrential rain, and dime-sized hail.  Luckily, however, damage was minimal in my town.  There are reports of catastrophic damage in Brookport, Illinois, with numerous mobile homes overturned and people calling for help under the debris.  So it could have been far, far worse.

It is supposed to be around 75 degrees today, and I'm practically in sweats freezing my tail off :lol.  I used to say anything below 80 degrees gets cool for me, but I've since acclimated to triple digits of over 120 degrees to the point where I've become a sissy to cooler weather :spit.  When I was practicing for my upcoming marathon in the canyon it will be run in, I was around 8,000 feet above sea level, and it was around 50 degrees with what appear to be snow clouds lingering above.  We do get snow in the higher elevations, and I was excited at the thought of running with snowflakes but it never happened :lol.

The winter storm has arrived in force.  As of right now, we have about a 1/4 inch of ice on the ground and much more is on the way.  They are calling for as much as an additional inch of ice and up to 8 inches of snow on top of that.  I arrived at the college this morning just to be informed an hour later that classes were to be cancelled.  <_< In the process of driving back to my apartment (only two miles away, thank goodness) from my unnecessary trip to the college I nearly slid off road twice and I noticed several cars that had slid into the ditch.  It irritates me to no end that the late decision of my employer has endangered the safety of my students and my fellow instructors.   :anger

I'm rather concerned about the weather forecast for tomorrow: freezing rain with an ice accumulation (I forget how much) enough to expect power outages. I've even heard that this may be as bad as the ice storm we had here back in 1998.

This really concerns me because I remember what that was like. Back then, I honestly wasn't that worried; I actually thought seeing everything covered in a thick layer of ice was kinda cool. I actually didn't mind having no power for a few days because, back then, the only electronics I had to entertain me was a few cartoons on TV and only one hour of computer games per day (we had only one computer in the whole house, back then). I remember spending much of that time working on a puzzle, and I had fun, especially considering school was obviously canceled for those days.

Things are a lot different these days. Nearly all of my daily activities are on a computer, many of which require internet. If we do end up losing power here, I fear I'll be left with almost nothing entertaining to do. The good news is that I'm aware of this ahead of time, so I can prepare myself for the possibility (for example, I've decided to do my laundry today instead of tomorrow, as I had originally planned). Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for no power outage at my house, or at least that such an outage will be quickly restored.
Title: How's the Weather?

We are currently experiencing extremely heavy rain.  We have obtained 3 inches thus far, with an additional 1-2 inches being predicted for tomorrow.  Obviously, flash flooding is a major concern.  In fact, I now only have one route that is passable to the nearest town, the other 2 routes leading from my parent's home is covered by overburdened streams.

Thankfully, the rain is supposed to stop by tomorrow night.  We then are forecast to have a cold but dry week.
Title: How's the Weather?
Post by: The Chronicler on December 22, 2013, 09:12:19 PM
Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as I had feared. Power and internet never went out at my house, despite a 1/4 inch accumulation of ice. Apparently, the really bad part of the storm happened north of here, between Burlington and the Canadian border, where power outages were reported. The most we had to worry about was getting all that ice off of the cars parked in the driveway. (My dad decided to scrape it all off after turning on the cars and letting them warm up for a while, but to get inside to turn on the cars, he had to use a rubber mallet to break some of the ice around one of the doors.)

Temperatures are expected to warm up tomorrow, so hopefully this means the worst is already behind us.

We are not under the grips of the "polar vortex" that the meteorologists have been talking about for days.  We have just set a new daily record low temperature at -5 F today and we should challenge that reading tomorrow as well.  With wind chills around -20 the authorities are recommending that everyone stay inside and avoid going out unless you have too.  Sounds like good advice to me.

A part of Croatia, Gorski kotar, was struck by freezing rain, and so much ice has accumulated that pylons and cables are breaking under the weight and 14,000 homes have been cut off from the electric grid. The grid is being re-established there as we speak. Some areas of forest will be damaged as well, as trees crack under the weight of the ice.
Neighbouring Slovenia was hit by the same thing, only there the situation is more severe. 88,000 homes are without electricty, and unlike Croatia, their civil service was overwhelmed by the situation and they had to use the military, and also request aid from other countries. Slovenia forests appear to have sustained much greater damage. In Serbia there was a lot of snowfall, and in places there is so much snow the Serbian military had to use tanks to break through, but otherwise the situation is under control.

It's been an exceptionally cold and rainy May. In neighbouring Serbia and Bosnia there are disastrous floods, some people have drowned, the entire countries are in a state of emergency and have requested aid from abroad. Parts of Croatia could possibly to be flooded too, as the Sava river, being the destination of most Bosnian rivers, is reaching record-breaking volume. Though Croatia has fairly good dikes on its rivers compared to other European countries, the water level is on the way to go beyond anything the designers in the 1960s envisioned.

I've heard about the carastrophy over there :( Even bridges were destroyed (I've seen a very scary video showing how a destroyed bridge floating on the muddy river rammed another bridge... It also took down a really old, big tree as if it was a stick... scary...). Let's all hope the dikes are going to withstand the water masses :goodluck

Over here, the showery weather has turned into a sun-cloud mixture at moderate temperatures... In the middle of the week, temperatures are forecasted to exceed 30?C/86?F at some locations... Also, conditions for severe storms are given later next week.

I hope for the best, jansenov.  Hopefully the well-built dikes will be able to handle the massive amount of water flowing that way.   :yes

Over here the weather has been quite nice.  We have had temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to 60s (?F of course, 60 degrees ?C would not be pleasant  :lol) for highs.  The temperatures should rise into the 70s and 80s by the middle of next week.

The dike breached at one spot in Croatia, but dikes in Serbia and Bosnia, which are of poorer quality, suffered larger breaches and they got most of the flooding. Two villages have been flooded in Croatia, and one city with its surroundings in Bosnia and one city in Serbia too. Here less than a hundred people had to evacuated, in Bosnia over ten thousand had to be evacuated. There are no dead in this most recent flooding.

And in just one month, spring turns to summer. The last few days have been so warm that I decided it was time to put in the air conditioner, even though it's expected to cool off for the next week.

I like being able to have some control over the temperature in my room. I find myself most comfortable between 72 and 75. The last few days, it was 80 to 82 in my room, and opening all the doors and windows did little to cool it down much. I prefer to leave the door to my room closed, so putting in the air conditioner will allow me to return to what I'm comfortable with.

The number of dead is going up: 2 dead in Croatia, over 40 in Bosnia, possibly hundreds in Serbia. Also, in Croatia, the only spot on the dike which didn't hold was the newest spot, built in 2010. An investigation will be opened into this dimishing quality of construction.

It's been rather hot today. I'm not sure how warm it was outside, but my room was over 80F (until I turned on the air conditioner, of course). Then, later this afternoon, storm clouds rolled in and we got about half an hour of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and strong winds. The clouds have since passed and it's still rather warm, but hopefully it should cool off soon. (That's what happens after a thunderstorm passes, right?)

It has been hot and humid all week, with temperatures approaching 90 degrees.  We are projected to possibly have severe weather tomorrow.  With the current humidity and energy in the atmosphere I am sure that storms will pop up quite easily.

^Oh yeah, thunderstorms should cause some cooling off... except of they occur along a warm front... Well, there's certainly a lot going on in the US thunderstorm-wise. I've seen some pictures and videos... Hopefully, nobody gets battered by baseball-sized hail

As for me... last week has been very rainy and even quite chilly. Now we're going to have a "heat wave" at the weekend with temperatures exceeding 90?F for a few days at least.

We have been stuck in a pattern of constant rain for the last week or so.  Nothing too severe has happened in my area, but flooding is becoming a concern in low-lying areas.

Pretty dangerous set-up over here. Thunderstorms can cause real damage these days ... Last evening and night, a system of the size of Ireland caused considerable destruction in some parts of Germany. Luckily, I wasn't close to it (though the ice shield reached me...)
It's been so hot these past few days that several records have been topped temperature-wise. Luckily, the heat is going to leave by tomorrow... I'm sweating here in my room with 85?F :D

Well, the nice weather was too good to last.  We now have a two-day sequence of storms forecast for the area and the NWS has placed the area under a "slight risk" advisory for the next two days.  The main threat should be torrential rain according to their prediction models.

Ehh, we have a pretty interesting set-up for this week. Chilly air from the sea mixing up with hot and humid air from the Mediterran... This is always capable of producing torrential rain and that's exactly what they forecast: Rain, rain, rain... and thunderstorms; at least for tonight. After that it'll be too cold for thunderstorms, temperatures dropping down to 60?F on Wednesday after almost 90?C on Friday. Hope there won't be serious flooding... If there is flooding at a local river, it wouldn't affect me as the water floods only some grassland, usually. However, other regions won't be that lucky in case of a flooding...

July and the first week of August have pretty much dominated by a steadily restoring weather: Warm but not hot, very wet and most of the time it were very local events with quite some flashflooding. We've been spared luckily :p

Now the remnant of ex-hurrican Bertha is forecasted to cause quite some storm (a very rare thing in August over here and possibly severe thunderstorms.

Today started off freezing at -2,then settled to 1 around 8:30. Now at 1pm it's about 15.

Days are ever so slowly getting warmer as we head into Spring, however in Australia. Spring is not all sunshine and rainbows. It means bushfire season begins and lasts until the new year.

Right now it's sunny,we got a breeze and theres a few scattered clouds. Pretty mild day and I like it,not freezing my butt off nor am I feeling like I'm Death Valley.

Bushfire seasons us never welcomed. Last year in my state alone fire did us 94 million dollars in damage, destroyed homes, killed people even burnt down entire towns. I rather not see my state catch on fire, thank you very much. I can tell you this now-having your town surrounded by flames is really scary.

I'm going this cool weather, because soon it's going to be boiling hot and the normal is going to be 39 dgrees Celsius or 102 fahrenheit and getting up to 43 degrees (109)..kill me.

When I woke up yesterday morning, this was the reading on the thermometer in my bedroom: 84F and 44% humidity, which is the highest either of those have ever been all summer. :o  Needless to say, the very first thing I did after getting out of bed was to turn on the air conditioner.

Thankfully, this morning was a lot more tolerable: 78.5F and 35% humidity. I typically turn on my AC when it reaches 80F and/or 40%, then turn it off when it comes close to 72F, which typically has humidity of 30% or less. (Keep in mind, this is the indoor temperature of my bedroom. I haven't been paying much attention to the outdoor weather conditions lately.)

Just one week later, and now the overnight temperature in my room has now been going below 75F. I finally got around to actually checking the weather forecast, and it looks like outside temperatures should be in the low 60s and high 50s this week. That's cool enough that I actually haven't even turned on my air conditioner for a while now. Looks like summer will be coming to an end soon, here in Vermont.

My family decided to remove all of the air conditioners in our house this weekend, but today, I'm really regretting having that done for the one in my room. It's been so hot in my room that I've been forced to keep the door and both windows open, which I really don't like doing at all.

I really hope it cools off a lot very soon. I should not have to worry about summer weather in the middle of October! ( <_< Next year, I'm going to keep my air conditioner in until it starts snowing.)

It's the very same pattern currently, that existed for the better part of last winter season. I hope it won't establish again this winter... I'm a winter and snow lover ;)

Quite some varied weather here lately. It was very cold last week (low 30s F), up until about two days ago. Today, it's been rather warm (around 65F), and it's expected to cool back down within two more days. Adding on to that wild temperature swing, it's been quite windy as well. We had a bit of a storm today, it's all being blown over from the Cyclone which hit Queensland last week, a bit of the storm drifted over to New South Wales and is going right through the West side of state, thankfully it wasn't too bad.

And we needed the rain as our dams and lakes were starting to go a bit dry, we got some heavy wind well not super heavy but about 24km/h, a bit of hail and thunder and lightning. Besides a few close strikes nothing bad at all. Expect one of my dogs freaked out and injured himself in the panic.

He will be perfectly fine though.

With only 2 days left of Summer you can start to feel the Autumn breeze coming in,some of the trees are starting to die back, already getting falling leaves, and it's starting to get chilly a night, well chilly for Australia this time of year at about 16?C.

It actually does get freezing in Australia in winter, and it does snow. Though you don't get snow everywhere.

The town I live it gets daily snow in Winter and can drop to about -6?C.

And for Australia, that is stone cold.

So while most of you people here are preparing for all the warmth of Spring and Summer.

I'm preparing for the bitter cold of Autumn and Winter. When it's Summer for you lot, I'll be in Winter. Completely reserved.

Though I know why, still find it really weird.

Even sitting here I'm starting to get a bit chilly

Global warming can only be seen globally. Locally, it might be colder than usual (American winters lately as an example) but many places are reveiving a whole lot more warmth than their fair share is (Germany for example has exceeded an annual average temperature of 10?C/50?F for the first time in 2014 since temperatures were first measured back in 1864 or something like that. That was about 2?C above the average we're getting here... just to show the other side of the coin ;))

Staying nice and warm but a bit of rain coming. As long as isn't another "Flood of 2013" I'm fine with some rain though.  :lol

It's been raining everyday here.  It's not continuous rain either.  It would basically rain at somepoint during the day and then stop for a bit.  It would then start again and stop by evening.  In some cases, it only rains for an hour or so.  This has been happening for the past three weeks.

However, according to the weather forecast, this on and off storm is coming to an end and nothing but sunshine is on the way.  It's seems tomorrow is the last day of this storm. :)

Guys I'm melting :p For a few days now we're having quite an intense heat wave with temperatures around 100 ?F/40?C. And tomorrow looks like Germany is gonna be ripped apart by storms. Some say it'll be like last year when a huge storm destroyed quite a bit of western Germany and killed 4 people. Hope that doesn't happen again and I hope we don't get yet another strong tornado...

Welcome to my world, Germany..hat is pretty much Australian Summer..just without the massive droughts and bushfires. Just stay in the shade, in Australia heatstroke is crazy in Summer and on average 4 people die per year in Australia from intense heat.  And  even more people die because of bushfires.

I didn't even know Germnay got that hot.

But right now, Australia is freezing over. -6?C/21.2?F right now, and for Australia that is freezing cold, we got snow everyday for the past week, there is snow and ice everywhere, July is the coldest month for Australia and it sure is proving that fact right now, my teeth are chattering sitting here.

Dear, Germany.
We want our sun back.

~Signed, Australia.

In all serious now, I'm just trying to stay warm, also there is  a massive Flu outbreak in my area right now...not fun. Hopefully we will all be okay though.

^ that.

The town woke up to a Winter Wonderland, we currently have 4 inches and the stuff is still falling.

This is the coldest Winter in 30 years, we are actually expecting a blizzard in the next few days. And the temperatures are dropping, NSW is freezing over.

We had an awful storm last night, really strong winds. It was confirmed a mini-tornado no one was hurt luckily.  We're expected to have least of snow 3 meters of snow by the end of the week.

I do love what they are calling this though 'The Big Freeze'  it amuses me for some reason...

Crazy stuff happening here man.

We're on serve weather warning across the state. Flash flood, heavy hail, heavy rainfall, heavy winds, thunder, lightning.

It like NSW is having it's own 2012..in 2015. My town really hasn't been hit to hard yet, but a tornado did go through a neighbouring town, luckily do deaths or major injures reported.

Though now everyone is worried about another Tornado since the last one came from nowhere with little to no warning, and Tornadoes  aren't really common this part of Australia.

In another town the dam broke and flooded the whole town, they had to evacuate everyone who lived there.

We just finished recovering everything from April 'mini cyclones' and now there is gonna be more 'cyclonic storms'.

And if you think I'm kidding about the tornado, I am not. http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories...nsw-s-west.html (http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2015/08/25/mini-tornado-sweeps-through-nsw-s-west.html)

Title: How's the Weather?
Post by: The Chronicler on September 08, 2015, 09:15:27 PM
Just like last year, it seems the hottest days of summer are not in July or August, but rather in September. <_<  When I woke up this morning, the temperature in my room was close to 85F, which means it must've been even hotter outside. And just a few hours ago, my laptop suddenly shut off due to overheating (this is why I can't play any videos for more than and hour, but now it seems that not even leaving them paused will prevent this), so I decided to start a habit of literally holding my laptop right in front of the running air conditioner for a minute or two to cool it off.

If this summer goes the same way as last year, then it looks like I'll have to keep my air conditioner in until the end of October. -_-

Had our first freezing temperatures of the season last night, so my dad and I decided to take out all the air conditioners today. The hottest it's expected to get this week will be only 60F on Tuesday, so I figured now was a good time to do so.

I don't exactly remember how warm it was, but last week in particular was unusually warm for early November. We actually had to occasionally open our windows because it got so hot indoors. (At least it didn't get so hot that I would've been tempted to put the air conditioner back in my room.)

This week, it's now cooled off down to around the mid 50s F, so aside from how cold my room always seems to get due to being on the north side of the house where there's no warming sunlight, I really don't have much to complain about.

Just had a freak wind storm at my place earlier this afternoon. Some trees branches ended up all over the place, and even some neighbor's inflatable kiddie pool ended up in our yard (which of course we returned after the storm passed). My dad's garden also got damaged when the wooden posts holding up the bean plants broke and toppled over (I was actually watching them right at the moment it happened). And the power briefly flickered out twice (causing me to lose some progress on the game of Civilization V I was playing today).

Not long after the wind finally died down, we got a little bit of rain afterwards, but that doesn't really compare to the crazy winds we had just moments earlier.

The storm has hit the state South Australia and they now have a state wide black out and the storm is heading for my home state, I have a bad feeling about this. The night before yesterday, we got some freezing rain, resulting in a layer of ice over everything outside (my mom couldn't even get her car door open), so a lot of schools and businesses were closed yesterday. Today, we got some warmer weather and even had the sun come out for a few hours. I actually saw the ice was melting so quickly off the tree branches that it was like it was raining.

The strange thing about this winter is that whenever we get snowfall, it doesn't seem to last very long, so for much of this month, there has actually been little to no snow on the ground at all! (quite unusual for Vermont in January)
Title: How's the Weather?

weather are in germany is unusually stable lately. We've had some cold weather and snow early this month and then we just got dry and cold weather, sometimes cloudy and sometimes sunny. Snow is about to melt though as it gets warmer soon but there's not supposed to be much precipation within the next week either.

Oh well, this is better than rain at 50?F which is what we got quite frequently these last 2-3 years in winter over here..

With the rainstorm expected tomorrow and the much warmer temperatures expected next week, looks like winter weather here in Vermont is now over.

It's kinda strange how I'm noticing a peculiar pattern that seems to have been going on for the last few years. No significant snowfall arrives until around Christmas (around a month later than would typically be expected), and some of the biggest snowfall of the year tends to occur in late March and early April (after what's supposed to be the beginning of spring).

Okay, I take that back. I woke up this morning, and looked out the window to see the ground covered in snow. The Weather Channel initially seemed to forecast nothing but cloudy skies without any mention of snow, but I guess Christmas can bring some form of surprises after all.  :smile

On a not so happy note, I woke up this morning and was told of the high chance of hurricane-force winds possibly striking my area on Sunday. Gusts up to 75 MPH have been forecast throughout upstate New York, and my city of Buffalo could face one of its windiest days on record (all-time). :opetrie Unfortunately, this means the probably of power outages lasting for several days, and this may slow down my progress on my February fanfic prompt entry that I've been making steady progress on. Chances are, I probably won't be online for several days after that. :( I'm hoping for the best...

Weather for me has been pretty good now. Finally moved passed the -30C temperatures and into the -10 to -20 range.

I'm now in the final few hours of the aforementioned windstorm that has significantly damaged Western New York. Many trees and lines are down, and around 50,000 customers have lost power, including two bus terminals, leading to school cancellations. Winds constantly gusted over 50 MPH, sometimes even up to 60. Astonishingly, through it all, my power remained intact, although my roof has lost some shingles, many of which landed on the front lawn next door. I'm just grateful that nobody was killed, although two people in Buffalo suffered minor injuries from fallen light posts. Yeesh.

For me, tonight is nice and cool, with the temperature low at 40F (~4.4 Celsius) and Mostly Clear Skies. Good weather, but the rest of the week is either cloudy or rainy though. That's fine by me though, it stays much cooler like that. Speaking of which, my area has only reached at or above 70F one time so far.

Ah yes, snow. On Long Island where I reside, it seemed like in the 2017-2018 winter season, it kept snowing so much every month. December, January (where we had one blizzard), February, March, and even a Winter Weather Advisory on April 2nd with Snow! The 2016-2017 season was much the same, except no April snow and the blizzard occurred in February. But wow! Contrast that to 2018-2019 winter, where we had barely anything at all, but then it suddenly starts snowing in March, I mean uh... what? It wasn't much either anyway, probably like ~6-8 inches for the season.

Temperature today peaked at 69 °F (~20.55 °C) Expected to be 14° cooler tomorrow, but rebounding to about the same temperature the following day.

I do wonder what constitutes hot or cold for you. I can go out without a jacket at 40°F (~4.4°C) and be just fine, albeit with weak or no wind. And in the summer, while it is pretty uncommon for it to go above 90°F (32.2°C), it's always feels MUCH hotter due to the humidity, even though most of the time the temperature ranges from the upper 70s to the lower & mid 80s (25°C - 30°C).

It's also uncommon for the dew point in the summer to be at 55°F (12.8°C) or lower, the level at where people would feel comfortable. I would like a dry heat for once, thank you very much. :(

But then again, being near the coast you should expect conditions like that. :P

For me, 15°C is in the range of being neither cool nor warm, which is often ideal for me. I was wearing a hoodie today when I was out walking, but I think there was a bit of a breeze. Even with no wind, however, I almost certainly would be wearing a jacket if it were 5°C out, but then again I like to wear hoodies a lot in general.

Still waiting for the sunshine to return on Monday for me. I don't mind the clouds though as it feels much cooler with it.
Also, rain for me tonight and tomorrow. It seems like in total we will be getting at least 1.25 inches (3.175 cm) of rain before it subsides.

^Which is funny, because I otherwise don't mind the cold much. I'm more tolerant of it than a lot of people I know. As long as I'm dressed up properly, even on a frosty day, I'm all set.

...which is good for me this weekend because it is cloudy and cold right now, and it's been snowing again, albeit mildly.

You're still getting snow even though daytime temperatures are getting into the 15°C and above range? You're having that snow at night, right? If so, then that's a huge temperature contrast from day to night. On average, when do you stop seeing snow?

That reminds me. One time in February very recently, the temperature in the day peaked at 60°F (~15.5°C), which is abnormally above average. But, a Blizzard Warning was also issued which was going to take effect that night. The temperature dropped to 32°F (0°C) and snow would start falling after midnight. Then the next day was a full blown blizzard with snow accumulating about 8-12 inches (20.32-30.48 cm). The snow ended that evening and the overnight low was forecasted at 16°F (~ -8.8°C).
Title: Re: How's the Weather?

Nah, it hasn't been snowing when it's above 0°C. At least not as far as I've noticed. :olittlefoot

It has been snowing off and on throughout the daytimes this week, but the temperatures have been fluctuating. It was 15°C yesterday and so we didn't get snow that day. Today it was around 5°C and so it didn't snow throughout most of the day. Later in the evening, however, it began to snow, so the temperature must've dropped a little by then.

As for when on average we stop seeing snow, that's a tough question to answer because it can vary a lot. And I often forget exactly what happened in previous years. Regardless, early May is certainly an usual time for us to be seeing snow. But then again it doesn't surprise me as the weather here can be rather random and unpredictable. :P

Believe or not, even bordering the coast where I am we can even have a 40°F (~22.2°C) temperature differential between day and night time, but it's very uncommon and it only happens during spring, autumn, and maybe winter. Also, a cold front would need to be passing through as well.

Monday: Showers - 54°F / 44°F (~12.2°C / ~6.7°C)
Tuesday: Showers - 53°F / 45°F (~11.7°C / ~7.2°C)

I'm certainly feeling the warmer temperatures here. The night time lows throughout the week are expected to be between 12-15°C. So now, it feels more mild than cool at night. It's currently 64°F (~17.8°C) as of the time I'm posting, but it will drop to around 11°C before the sun rises. But still, I'd be going to bed feeling warmer than I'd be comfortable with.

It feels nice to not have to go outside with any jacket what so ever.

I wouldn't want to be in the Southeast of the United States though. Their temperatures are way above average, some even breaking records for the month of May. The dry weather down there also doesn't help them, as it seems like it'll be prolonged. That high pressure dome of heat, though.

Today was warmer than I thought. It reached 74°F (~23.3°C). It was pretty breezy during the entire day so it felt more comfortable. But once it started to get cloudy in the afternoon, I could really feel the difference, it was much cooler. :D
Scattered thunderstorms for tonight, but I usually don't get much from a forecast like this at all. The temperature only drops to 61°F (~16°C), so sleeping might be more uncomfortable than usual. But when summer really takes full effect, those night time temps will be all the norm.

Weather forecast this week is pretty much all over the place. Today and tomorrow will have a chance of thunderstorms with tomorrow getting as high as 80F. Then the day after on Tuesday, it'll clear up and temperature will drop down to less than 60F, and then much of the rest of the week will be up to the low 70s F, with a chance of rain on Saturday.

This past week had be relatively cooler, with temperatures around the low 60s F. With this week's forecast in mind, I decided it was time to put in the air conditioner in my room, and it seems my dad decided to do the same for all the other rooms in the house. Summer weather has now officially arrived.

Warmest day of the week (or month I shall say) for me, with the temperature peaking at around 82°F (~27.8°C). Tonight though is a considerable difference, dropping to around 56°F (~13.3°C). Despite the dew point hovering around 64°F (~17.8°C), today didn't feel that bad too be honest. It was also pretty breezy outside too, so that also contributed to a more comfortable day.

Tomorrow is much cooler with a much lower humidity than today. About 20°C to be precise.

Much different for me here. We're well into May now and we've had a lot of cloudy and cool days. 9°C for me right now. A lot of people I know have complained about how far along spring is and yet it still hasn't been very warm... but I don't mind personally. I agree with you and StardustSoldier. With around 60% humidity, the dew point should be 77°F (25°C) according to the dew point calculators I used online. According to a heat index calculator, it would feel like 107°F (~41.7°C). :wow

"Yikes!" is correct. That's very oppressive humidity if you ask me. My area has never reached that high of a dew point before, I'm pretty sure (maybe actually).  Hopefully a cold front will pass by for you soon!

Alright, now for the weather in my area. Today feels much cooler and comfortable with Sunny Skies. It's perfect weather honestly. Temperature peaked at 71°F (~21.7°C), with a dew point of 34°F (~1°C) and a humidity of 26%.
The winds being around 15-25 mph was also nice. Overall, I love the weather today. :DD

Alright, well maybe you're not used to that type of weather, or perhaps you're exaggerating. Either way, we do all have different preferences for what hot and cold feels like.

Alright, now for today's weather. :D Very similar to yesterday actually. Temperature peaked at 74°F (~23.3°C) with a dew point of 35°F (~1.7°C), which makes the humidity 24%.

I'm not actually complaining. It is just a wonderful experience to have these kind of temperatures right now. Last spring was pretty dull. And it can get very hot indeed if you're working outside about 5-6 hours/day. I actually got a few sunburns few days ago, although that can be blamed on me for not putting any sunscreen on before going out. These temperatures are hot for me in particular. We do not really get 35-40°C in Finland. :)

Sorry about that sarcastic remark, and yeah I do see that it doesn't really get that hot in Finland at all. It seems like you folks there have very harsh winters and very mild summers. It totally makes sense why you would welcome temperatures like these. Everyone does, no matter where you live. I was only reacting to the statement, "Been a really hot past couple of days." I honestly thought you were referring to the actual temperature, not the feeling you get after working outside for so long.

Hehe, I guess you can say that I'm grateful for living near the coastal region, where winters are not as cold as inland, and summers are not as hot as the inland areas. The coldest it has gotten here temperature wise was in February of 1967, when it only got to -14°F (~ -25.6°C). It's rare that my place ever gets into the negatives during the winter. Temps in the single digits and teens are very common however. It can even get into the teens in April. But May is a huge cut off though, only getting as low as the freezing point at most.

Just to specify, I'm referring to Fahrenheit when I'm talking about "single digits and teens" In Celsius that would be pretty warm, relative to winter anyways. :p

Yeah there's always a couple weeks of winter here where it gets down to the -30 to -35oC range, though a good chunk of North America got hit pretty hard this winter. My hometown was as cold as -52oC with windchill at one point. Good thing I wasn't visiting at the time :p

Got a decent amount of rain today which is nice to see. Hopefully it will stretch far enough north to help with the wildfires a bit. Pretty good temperature range as well with around 13oC

Yeah there's always a couple weeks of winter here where it gets down to the -30 to -35oC range, though a good chunk of North America got hit pretty hard this winter. My hometown was as cold as -52oC with windchill at one point. Good thing I wasn't visiting at the time :p

Wildfires in Canada!? There's many active wildfires in Alberta I see. Is it affected by drought just like California was?

And yeah, winter did hit us hard plenty of times. There were weeks where the night time lows were in the single digits for days in a row.

Just a tip to make typing the degree symbol much easier. For °, just press Alt + 0176 on your keyboard. It's actually easy to memorize. :)
Now, you try! °

Yeah they're also caused by dry weather and have picked up a good amount in the last few years. Not as big as the fires in California last summer though.

That's an interesting shortcut, thanks! I'll try to remember it in the future haha. Most of the time I'm usually lazy and drop it all together and just do 30C or whatever.

High temperature only expected to be 80°F (~26.7°C) with a dew point of 51°F (~10.6°C), so the humidity would be at 36%.

Yesterday was a pretty warm 87°F (~30.6°C) with a dew point of 61°F (~16°C) at its lowest, so the humidity was 42%. Could've been more comfortable, but it could've been much worse too. That little bit of rain we had yesterday evening too helped ease the heat a bit. :)

Hot for Alberta, isn't it? My area has only reached 30°C once so far this year despite being way farther down south than you. But then again, being near the coast keeps temperatures much cooler than inland.
Also, yay you remember how to type the degree symbol! °v°

Here, it's currently 66°F (~19°C) with Light rain in the area. Tomorrow will only get to 72°F (~22.2°C) with scattered thunderstorms for the afternoon and evening hours. The following day is basically the same temperature, give or take.

Also, here's a fun fact regarding droughts recently. Did you know that the Southeast region of Alaska recorded its first extreme drought ever since they started recording droughts in 2000? Very weird indeed, considering that it's supposed to be Alaska's wettest region. I thought this would be appropriate to share considering that we have been talking about Alberta wildfires and droughts too.

I did remember haha. Thanks again for the tip!

It's fairly hot for Alberta though it usually gets up into that range at some point during the summer (can get as high as around 35°C from what I recall in previous years, at least where I live).

I did not know about the drought in Alaska so thanks for the info! Though there's been studies done that the arctic is being hit hardest with climate change and is warming up at a faster rate then other parts of the world. Could lead to some bad positive feedback with melting ice reducing Earth's albedo as well was trapped methane being released into the atmosphere.
Title: Re: How's the Weather?
Post by: ImpracticalDino on May 29, 2019, 04:05:40 PM
Yeah, I've heard of those trapped gasses in the ice before. Do you also think that the frequent arctic blast/polar vortex outbreaks in the United States is also related to Climate Change? I've read that it weakens the polar jet stream and allows frigid air to plunge deep southward from its usual area.

Currently, it's 62°F (16.7°C). For tonight's forecast, there's thunderstorms with heavy rain at times with a small chance of severe storms before clearing out at midnight or so. I do see on radar a band of heavy rain and thunderstorms heading east towards us. I hope it weakens or dissipates before hitting us, because it seems like there's already a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings associated with it at the same time. According to the hourly forecast, it's only about 2 hours away. Tomorrow is 68°F (20°C) with afternoon showers. I like this cool weather and I hope it stays that way. :)

I don't know enough to say if it is or not, but yeah the really cold weather happens when the jet stream that separates high and low pressure air is south of you which allows the arctic air to move in. This winter had it drop pretty far down though I really don't know enough about the weather system to say much on the subject haha.

As for weather for me, another 30°C today. Had to work outside for a bit today which wasn't too fun. Really don't miss the days of working out in this heat (and cold in winter) :p

Update on yesterday's weather. Basically the storm wasn't bad at all when it hit us. For the first half there were only a few rumbles of thunder and lightning. For the second half it was just pure rain. Lasted about 30 minutes or so. It was mostly light/moderate rain, with short periods of more heavier rain. But yet only less than 100 miles southwest of us, there are severe thunderstorm warnings associated with the same storm system. Entire states west of us actually had severe thunderstorm watches because of these storms that could potentially be severe.

Currently it's 62°F (~16.7°C). Tonight thunderstorms are forecasted, but no chance of severe. Tomorrow will be warmer with a high of 77°F (25°C), Mostly Sunny Skies, and low humidity. :)

Title: Re: How's the Weather?
Post by: ImpracticalDino on May 31, 2019, 06:29:53 PM
Wow, nice find of that map that shows the extensive spread of the wildfire smoke. You can really see the darker shades being near the site of the burns in Canada, and surprising so much of that smoke has ended up in the United States too. Of course, there are also wildfires in the U.S, but I'm not sure if its as much as Canada has currently.

I hope you stay safe out there, especially from those dangerous fires! :)

It's ironic how a century or so of purposefully trying to fight and eliminate wildfires have actually caused them to overall become worse, as they burn much brighter and hotter than back in the day. The wildfires are actually part of a forest's natural cycle, where it clears out crowded or dead debris and foliage on the ground to allow for new growth to come in. Since we constantly put them out, lots of dry, flammable material is left for fires to use as fuel if one is happened to be sparked. Obviously homes, infrastructures, and whatnot need to be protected, but now we are working so much harder to put out wildfires because of it. Controlled/prescribed burns are great ways to lessen the severity of wildfires and even prevent them by clearing the dense foliage on the ground that was supposed to be done naturally. It also releases nutrients into the soil further helping the aid of growth. Some pinecone trees also need that heat from the fires to open their cones and disperse seeds on the ground. If you're interested about this topic, go search for it on Wikipedia. It's also interesting to know that according to Wikipedia, the indigenous people in North America and Australia have done prescribed burns, so it has been done way before us.

Yeah I didn't know that the fires were that extensive. Thanks for the concern, but I should probably be OK. Mostly just the smoke that I have to deal with so far. Thankfully there's only small towns in the north so it doesn't effect a large number of people, but as of right now about 10,000 people have been evacuated.

As for wildfire severity, it's not that big of a stretch to have global warming as a significant reason for the increase as disasters such as these have been predicated to get worse due to that very fact. Everything you've said makes sense as well for being a cause as well.
Title: Re: How's the Weather?
Post by: StardustSoldier on June 02, 2019, 09:26:43 AM
There haven't been any evacuations near where I live, but we got hit with a pretty strong wave of smoke ourselves. A couple days ago, it was so smoky out that the entire sky was this monotone, grey haze all around. You couldn't even see the sun. Although thankfully it cleared out soon after and it's a much nicer day out today. You can still see a bit of smoke along the horizon, but right now it's not too bad.

A tiny bit warmer today with the temperature peaking at 77°F (25°C). Pretty cool day especially with the windier conditions in the afternoon.

A little warmer than yesterday. 21°C right now but it honestly doesn't feel any different.

Today is windy like yesterday, albeit less intense. The temperature is also around the same as yesterday, ~25°C.  It feels more uncomfortable and sticky today as the humidity and dew points are pretty high. Tonight is scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Today's temperature here in Finland is 16°C. Not that surprising, really. Ah, well, hopefully there will be more warmer times ahead. ;)

Today's temperature only reached a high of 76°F (~24.4°C), but it felt so uncomfortable and hot today. The humidity/dew point is a huge factor in this. With dew points in the 66°F - 68°F (~19°C - 20°C) range, it was sure to feel very sticky. It even felt more comfortable on one 87°F (~30.6°C) day I had earlier in the season, despite the dew point being at 61°F (~16.1°C).

I haven't mentioned this yet, but this entire week for me has pretty unsettled weather because of a stalled out front boundary. Not a lot of rain everyday, usually light or moderate, but it as been cloudy and humid nonetheless. Sunshine will finally return on the weekend this week though.

11:54 am EDT to be exact, according to my astronomy calendar.

Had a brief thunderstorm yesterday, lots of regular rain today, enough so that much of Vermont has gotten flash flood warnings. Good thing my house is uphill from the nearby river. Temperatures are in the low 70s F, but for much of next week it'll be rather consistent at 80F.

Happy Summer Solstice Day, everyone! :Mo

It was raining in the morning, but sunshine has returned finally. Dew point/Humidity levels have already dropped a decent amount. Tomorrow's temperature is expected to be 79°F (~26.1°C) with even lower dew point/humidity. Looks like there's going to be a lot of days in the low 80s or above coming according to the forecast.

Today is much cooler than yesterday temperature wise, with a high of 73°F (~22.8°C). But, the dew point is much higher today, at around 70°F (~21.1°C). While it does feel very sticky today, it's actually slightly more comfortable than yesterday, especially because it was cloudy today.

It's much cooler around here as well. Right now the temperature is 14°C. I have to say that this is way more comfortable to me compared to the previous temperatures. Of course, I like a good sunny weather as much as anyone, but sometimes you just want some change from that heat. It's also looking a bit cloudy here too. Who knows, it might start raining soon.

Today is my second 90°F (~32.2°C) day! :wow

It's much more humid today, with the dew point at 70°F (~21.1°C), give or take.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms expected this late afternoon into evening, chance of rain 50%. Some storms may contain large hail and damaging winds. Hit or miss? Hopefully it'll be a miss for my area. So far today, it has been Partly Cloudy.

Just five miles south of my area a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, which ended at 4:15 PM. Based on the radar, it looked like a tiny supercell with heavy rain.

*UPDATE*
No rain or thunderstorms at all that affected my area today. Some parts of Long Island weren't spared though.
Overall...All Clear! :D

Wow, today was quite the doozy! :lol

Today was forecasted for a 30% chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon.
Well, at 2:45 PM - 3:05 PM, my area was slammed with torrential downfall and tiny hail. I was pretty surprised at that. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued and expected to expire at 3:15 PM. There was a line of strong thunderstorms moving southeast at 35 MPH according to radar it seems. Before the storm, the temperature was 81°F (~27.2°C), but after it subsided, it was 61°F (~16.1°C)! It was only for a little bit before recovering back to the lower 70s. Right now the temperature is 76°F (~24.4°C). But overall, it was much cooler after the event and the skies cleared out completely. :)

I'll post a quick update regarding the weather for my area here. If nobody else will post from hereon out, I'll only do occasional updates.

So a lot of the days has been in the upper 80s °F and decently humid. But today has been oppressive. With a dew point of 75°F (~23.9°C) all day and a temperature of 88°F (~31.1°C), the heat index reached 98°F (~36.7°C). Despite the risk of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon to early evening hours, nothing really happened. Today was Partly Cloudy.

Talk about a Florida-like climate, eh? ;)
At least a cold front will pass through soon, dropping the temperatures to a still warm but cooler 81°F (~27.2°C) tomorrow.

Wow, Alaska is much hotter than usual with a dome of High Pressure dominant over the region. Anchorage reached 90°F (~32.2°C) for the first time ever on July 4, 2019. Right now, it's 87°F (~30.6°C). Most of the week will be in the upper 80s, with some days in the mid 80s. I really wish that the night time temperatures provided some better relief, but so far it has been upper 60s to lower 70s. :(

For most of the week, there will be sunshine. I would actually appreciate rain in this time of year, since it does cool temperatures down significantly...at the price of humidity levels being a bit high though. Temperatures do tend to rebound after a rain event, so it's only temporary. But, it's better than nothing at least. :)
Title: Re: How's the Weather?

There's gonna be a heat wave that will affect the Midwest, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast in the United States in the next couple of days. Record highs in the daytime have the potential to be broken, with temperatures ranging in the low 90s to the low 100s. Nighttime record highs are also expected with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, providing basically no relief at all to the sweltering heat in the day. Also, expect very humid conditions as well with dew points in the low to mid 70s, making heat indexes easily soar above the century mark.

Currently for me, it's 91°F (~32.8°C), feels like temp of 103°F (~39.4°C), and a dew point of 75°F (~23.9°C). A heat advisory is in effect because of these conditions.

Even before this, temps in my area have been in the upper 80s for weeks already, making it an above average summer so far in terms of temperature.

The past two nights have been miserable...temperature wise, my AC is really a life saver. :DD

Even at 1:30 AM after Midnight, the outside temperature is literally still 80°F (~26.7°C) with oppressive humidity as well. Yesterday was 96°F (~35.6°C) and today it reached up to 98°F (~36.7°C). A heat index here was up to 111°F (~44°C) at one point as well. As such, an Excessive Heat Warning and Air Quality Alert are issued for these two days. But relief will come though as a cold front will pass through, and tomorrow there will be scattered thunderstorms with a 50% chance of rain, some of them may be severe. I can't wait for Tuesday, as the daytime high is only expected to be around 74°F (~23.3°C) or so. :)

There's an AC unit in my bedroom. There's also an AC unit in the dining room where the computer is. :)

What I'm more worried about is the recent European heat waves. Many of them don't have AC to cool down, and nighttime temperatures won't be much relief for them. This has been the second one so far this summer. Remember the one a few weeks ago? It broke some records, and this time around more high temperature records are being broken.

As we approach fall, the temperatures have been considerably cooler, and the dew points are lower on average too. Temps in the day are mostly in the 70s now, nighttime temps are in the mid 50s by next week.

Anyone heard of Hurricane Dorian? Maximum sustained winds of 185 mph were reported, a nasty major Category 5 hurricane that went directly over parts of the Bahamas. It's expected to make a turn northward then northeast before hitting Florida, but the impacts are still expected to be horrible for them. Yep, a very quiet start to the Hurricane Season in the Atlantic does not mean that the entire season will be quiet or insignificant.

Tonight’s low will be the coolest for the entire month of September for me, it seems. 47°F (~8.3°C) is the low for tonight, and I’m very happy about that, as it leaves for a very comfortable sleep without any fans running. Nighttime temperatures will quickly rebound however, going back to the low to mid 60’s °F in 2-3 days.

At one point pretty recently, there were six named tropical storms/hurricanes at once, with one of them now at Tropical Depression status as it drenches the Texas coastline with heavy rain and flooding.

Nice, StardustSoldier! Here on Long Island, it's still not even close to the temperature required for snow, let alone any winter precipitation. On Wednesday, it will heat up to 86°F (30°C) before cooling down to 64°F (~17.8°C) the following day. After that, it will be a pretty long stretch of temperatures that are 20°C or lower for the daytime. :D

It may or may not be the first snowflakes of the season for me as well, depending on how the precipitation and the temperatures align with each other. The rain may end before seeing that transition to snow, but who knows. I’ll update on that tomorrow.

Lol, so ~8.6°F is pleasant weather for you? Yep, that’s Canada for you. :p

We did get that transition to snow by the way! It happened right around 1:30 PM today, and it stopped right about now at 3:30 PM. No snow accumulation, but then again the ground must’ve been pretty warm since the temperature all day yesterday and this morning has been in the 50s °F. That, and the snowfall was relatively light.

I meant 'pleasant' in that the walk itself was enjoyable. Even though the temperature was rather low, the bright sun and clear sky made it feel warmer. That, and I hadn't done a major walk in over a month (and normally I'm an avid walker), so the chance for some exercise was refreshing.

I do notice I said "only" -13°C, which granted is already pretty cold. But compared to, say, -25 or so, -13 is relatively mild.

The only question I have for you at this point though was why you couldn’t perform a major walk for the past month or so. Surely the warmer temperatures would be enticing, right? Or were there other things that you had to focus your attention to?

And yeah, I agree. The sun warms you up pretty nicely no matter the temperature, and it feels very comfortable on your skin as well. :)

It wasn't that I was unable to go out for a walk, necessarily. But for a few different reasons, I just didn't get around to it. The weather was already starting to get colder, for one thing. Winter typically doesn't bother me much, and I still like to do occasional winter walks. All the same, the cooling weather did make it harder to find the motivation. I also had this massive novella project for a client that I was working on constantly for nearly two whole months. I spent many restless nights at my computer with a large mug of coffee trying to get it all done. :p And lastly, my grandmother passed away very suddenly late in October, and so my brother and I then flew out to a different province to attend the funeral and spend time with our extended family.

So in answer to your question, yeah, my lack of walking was basically just because I had other things occupying my attention.

That must be stressful, hehe. I’ve drank so much soda over the years that the caffeine doesn’t seem to have an effect on me anymore. In fact, I think it actually makes me more tired at this point. It’s probably because I need much more caffeine than I used to need to acquire the same alertness effect. And since I’m drinking less of it now, that’s probably the reason why.

If I continue to procrastinate too much, I fear that I won’t get anything done ever, or I would just stay up all night all the time to get things done. :p

I’m sorry to hear about another passing of a loved one. Hopefully it felt easier to cope with considering that you have experienced death like this before.

You can definitely get acclimatized to caffeine until it retards the effects without needing a larger dose. You'd probably need to switch to a different stimulant (like water) just to get that same effect.

4 days ago, my area had the first “real” snowfall event, since snow actually accumulated on the ground. About 2 to 4 inches in total, and a Winter Weather Advisory to go with it. Took about 2 days for all the snow to completely dissipate on the ground. Temperatures were above freezing for the entire time it snowed too. The precipitation began as rain before transitioning to snow.

Been a while since I've posted here. Today was a fun day at work with having to work outside in -22°C weather. At least there was a decent amount of forklift driving and they have heat. Also didn't get it stuck in the snow as well so that's a plus :p

Yeah it wasn't the greatest, though starting tomorrow I'm gonna get hit with some cold weather for the next week, ranging from -32°C to -42°C with the windchill according to the forecast.

My weather is a huge contrast to yours Flathead770. Starting tonight and into tomorrow morning, there will be rain with very windy conditions. Tomorrow's temperature is expected to be in the low 60s°F. That is pretty close to the record high, I'd say. It will cool down after that, but it's still quite surprising to see how warm it can get in January.

Title: Re: How's the Weather?

Coldest temperature recorded in my area so far was only 18°F (~-7.8°C) this season. Outlook of snow this week and next week is basically none. Temperatures ranging between 5°C - 10°C in the day time, or 40s°F, and nighttime temperatures ranging between below freezing, at freezing, or above freezing depending on the day. Expecting a lot of rain from a storm system on Saturday.

February and maybe March are the two months left where I can still get significant snowfall until Spring officially kicks into gear and it gets too warm for it.

Was decently warm for awhile but I've had a few -10°C days still. Even got a little nit of snow the past couple days. Nothing big though, probably around 1 -2 cm at most. Still got a decent amount of snow kicking around as it hasn't gotten warm enough yet to melt. Currently feels like -9°C but it's nice and sunny out.

I'm not the biggest fan of warm weather either. Once it starts getting above 25°C (77°F) then it starts getting a little too uncomfortable for me.

I agree. One huge factor that also contributes to how uncomfortable I feel once it reaches 25°C and above is the dew point, or humidity. Generally speaking, 80°F and a dew point of 55°F or lower is ideal. At that level, the humidity is 43%. I remember when I was over reliant on looking at the percentage of humidity to determine how moist the air is. But in reality, dew point is the better indicator. Because 43% humidity at 80°F is drastically different than 43% humidity at 100°F. At that point, the latter’s dew point is much higher than 55°F, therefore much more muggy and unbearable.

Below 25°C however, humidity doesn’t really matter too much in how you feel.

Haha, yeah, where I live it can start snowing as early as September. :p A lot of folks here aren't happy about the colder weather right now, but I really don't mind. There is indeed a part of me that enjoys winter. :)

I've talked to other GoF members who have more consistent temperatures year round, but where I live it tends to fluctuate a lot more. Our hottest days tend to reach 35°C and our coldest tend to reach -25°C.

Right now it's -6°C outside.

The temperatures in your country can be truly extreme. -6°C! I hope you are in a warm place! Unfortunately you have to keep in many public buildings the windows open, because Corona, so it is really uncomfortable there now. At least the face mask keeps you warm. :DD
Everything has also his good sites!
Have a great winter!!!

Well, we got a bit of a cold front for the last few days, and today, snow hit!  It's not much, but it seems winter hit early here!  Time for a cozy seat, bundled up in front of the fire place with some hot cocoa. A few weeks ago, a cold front hit the area and it's been cold since.  I'm talking in the twenties.  On top of that, not one snowflake in sight, but I do expect some soon.  So yeah, just freezing around here.  Even the heater is struggling sometimes.

We'll see how things change overtime.

Just got our first snow accumulation here in Vermont today. In addition, looks like the forecast for the entire week is going to be for cloudy skies, which is really unfortunate, because I've heard about a rare event in the night sky occurring this month where the planets Jupiter and Saturn will appear closer together than the width of a full moon on the 21st, the closest they've been in nearly 800 years. It would be a real shame if I missed seeing this due to endless cloudy skies.

Update!

So, snow came through during the last week.  Not much, but it's been snowing on and off for a few days now.  There's definitely a nice layer of white outside at this moment.

I'm expecting more before Christmas hits.

Tomorrow's high temperature is expected to reach 70F for the first time this spring, and with today being clear and sunny with a modest breeze, I figured today would be an excellent time to put in the air conditioner in my room. We are in a drought over here.  We have reached over 100F, which we don't usually get until later in the year. (At least Early July.)

Water has started to have restrictions put on to it. (With steep fines if you go over said restrictions.) As a result, people have hoarded water.  You can guess what's happening at my workplace.  Oh, and yellow grass is becoming the norm.

Yeah, not a good time here.

It seems my expectation of spring weather was premature. We got an accumulation of heavy wet snow last night, and since a lot of plants were just beginning to sprout leaves in anticipation of spring, that inevitably resulted in some branches breaking off from some trees. While I'm fortunate to have not faced a power failure like some other places apparently have, one of the two trees in my front yard actually broke in such a way that it split right down the middle of the trunk all the way to the ground, all because of some heavy wet snowfall. There's no way to save that tree, so my dad will have to cut down the remainder of it and clear it away, once the weather improves. In hindsight, I'm glad I cleared away that huge bush in front of my window last autumn, because I don't want to imagine the damage it might've done as a result of last night's late winter storm.

I can now definitively say that there is one particular weather condition that I despise most of all, and it's a hot and humid night, like what we had last night. The issue I have is that during the summer months when I have the air conditioner in my window, a lot of bugs tend to somehow get into the house, and with how late I typically stay up, that means my room is often the only one with any significant light. There were so many of those pesky bugs flying around last that that swinging a fly swatter around just wasn't enough, so I resorted to using a handheld vacuum cleaner to clear away as many as I could find.

And this is in Vermont. I don't even want to imagine how much worse it could be in one of the southern states.

We had strong hail today.

Summer is pretty ok so far, no torturing heat or rains.

Fourth day of 30+ heat without rains here. :O It's torture.

Looks like today will be the last day with temperatures over 70F, falling to the 50s F for much of next week with a few rainy days over 60F. Not yet cold enough to remove the air conditioner, but no longer hot enough that I would need to use it every day.

Lots of rain this weekend, followed by consistently cold temperatures for all of next week (40s F during the day and below freezing at night). When I saw this on the weather forecast, I decided yesterday was a good time to remove the air conditioner from my room, so I got that taken care of.

Recently there was a snowstorm.
But generally, it's nice beginning of the winter here. with constant freezy temperature, snow, and almost without ice where you can fall.

Freezing cold. Sometimes I wish that I had feathers.

Definitely got cold and windy the last few days, but at least things should start to improve soon. While I was fortunate to have never lost the power at my house during that winter storm, several over homes in the area did lose power for some time, including my grandmother who had considered staying over with me and my parents until power was restored at her home after just over a day. Also, while on the road to visit the new home my brother and his wife recently moved into, my family and I had noticed quite a few trees had toppled over from the storm, one of which even landed on someone's house (no idea who lived there or how they're doing now, but the roof was definitely damaged).

From last Thursday to yesterday, it was very warm for this time of year in Vermont, up to 80F (hot enough that I decided to put in the air conditioner in my room the day before that hot weather began). Today, it's raining and temperatures later this week are expected to drop back to a more seasonably average.

Still too warm, although we finally broke our dry spell yesterday. Tiny bit of rain after 4 weeks without.

It has now been almost a week since the last time temperatures exceeded 80F, and next week's highest temperatures are expected to barely reach 70F. After how hot this summer has been, I'm looking forward to cooler weather over the next few months.
