Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 11, 2007, 01:35:47 AM
Just like any other trivia game on this forum but having to do with video game history.    There's just one rule:  ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH CURRENT GAMES IS NOT ALLOWED!  Must be about the history of games up to the year 2001.

Example:  What was the first video game in history and who was its creator?

-The very first video game was a single player version of Tic Tac Toe and was made by Ralph Bear who designed it for research purposes only in the early 1950s.

Now I'll start us off:

What game in the early 1990s was called one of the most controversial games of all time alongside Mortal Kombat?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Lain_EX on January 11, 2007, 08:52:18 PM
Was it... uhhh... Super Mario Bros 3?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 11, 2007, 10:57:49 PM
Wrong.  Guess again.

Hint:  Is also one of the reasons why there are ratings on video games now.

Ohhhh! It was Lethal Enforcers from Konami, wasn't it?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 11, 2007, 11:55:45 PM
Still wrong.   One more hint:  It was released for the Sega CD and was also the first interactive movie.

Night Fright?

Very close.  Night is in the title though.

Night Trap?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 12, 2007, 12:02:20 AM
Dark got it right.  Night Trap was released in 1992 for the Sega CD and was claimed to be one of the most controversial games in history.  It was filed under false claims of containing scandalous sex, gore and violence.  It was re-released in 1994 under the rating M.

No clue that was that game, 'cause I haven't played with the SEGA CD console.

Anyway, who's next?

Dark.  Since she guessed right.

Jurassic Park, released for the Super Nintendo in 1994, was one of the first video games to have what within the gameplay itself?

First Person view?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 12, 2007, 12:19:54 AM
The game was a first person shooter, but was not the first of its kind because of Doom(1993) and Wolfenstein 3D(1992) which came before it.

Okay, here's my question:

What was the last console that Atari made before being kicked out of the hardware business?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Stitch on January 12, 2007, 12:30:12 AM
The Jaguar
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Cyberlizard on January 12, 2007, 12:35:40 AM
Correct.  The Atari Jaguar launched in 1993 and died shortly after the Sega Saturn and the Sony Playstation launched in America in 1995.  Stitch's turn.

Try changing Depression to Valley.

Well, I'm gonna say it's a game called, I think, Return to the Great Valley. I don't remember the exact name, though.

According to Urban Legend, in the 1980s, there was an arcade game released in a single town that gave its players nightmares and insomnia. It was rumored to have been a beta version of a classic game that appeared later. The game later disappeared, and no proof of it being real exists. Many people claim to have a ROM but never back up their claims.

What is the name of this mythical game, what's the name of the company that supposedly made it, and what is the classic game that this mythical game is supposedly a beta for?

Dino Crisis, a Playstation game released in 1999, has been described as being a Survival Horror, just like Resident Evil. But Capcom had promoted it as its own subgenre. What is the name of this subgenre?

I can't figure out the original species, but I'm going to guess that the original name was Miles.

nope ^^; keep trying, further back than that, it comes down to a duel, and I say first, from the eyes of one man, I'm not sure which was TRULY designed first, but there was another name and species being debated

the creator of this other character is now an Insomniac if you need to search creator names :p there's an interview that'll tell you about it
He also created the first HPZ :p

Oh yeah?

Released in 2000, Dino Crisis 2, the sequel to the original Dino Crisis, picks up one year later, and, unlike its predecessor, is more of an action game rather than a horror game. This game, released a year before Jurassic Park 3, shared similarities with the third JP movie.

What were at least 2 of these similarities?

I do have a few ideas, though I never played the game.  Characters being attacked on a boat, scary dinosaur encounter in a lab full of broken incubation tubes, being attacked by flying dinosaurs on a metal bridge in a fog.

That's all I can think of right now.

I'll accept the first one. I hadn't really thought of that before. But you're right. There is a scene where Regina and Dylan are attacked on the boat, like how Grant and the others were attacked on a boat in the movie.

I'm not so sure about the second one. I don't recall there being a scary encounter in a lab full of broken tubes in Dino Crisis 2.

As for the third one, I don't know. There are Pteranodons that attack, but it's not on a bridge, more of a catwalk above water (or does that count as a bridge?) and there's no fog.

Got anymore guesses?

Hmm...  I'm trying to think of all other interesting possibilities besides the ones I mentioned...

1.  Being pursued by a nasty dinosaur alongside a HUGE fence while trying to find a way to the other side of this fence.

2.  Getting lost in a forest and surrounded by raptors. (sounds a little broad)

3.  Hiding in an overturned truck while dinosaurs walk around you.

That's all I can think up right now...

I'll accept that answer.

One major similarity that I hadn't seen anyone guess was the similarity between JP3 Spinosaurus and DC2 Giganotosaurus. Both were inaccurately portrayed (stronger than they should be, Giganotosaurus was bigger than it should have been and more durable than it probably was in real life, and Spinosaurus was portrayed as an unstoppable monster rather than a fish-eater like it probably was in real life), both replaced the T-Rex was "the main bad guy", both easily killed the T-Rex,and both performed feats that should have been impossible (Spinosaurus broke its neck even though it didn't have the neck or jaw power to do that and Giganotosaurus was able to pick up and throw the T-Rex with just its mouth even though T-Rex was an extremely heavy animal and it's unlikely that a Giganotosaurus could actually carry that much weight with their jaws).

Anyway it's your turn, Mirumoto_Kenjiro.

I would say Soul Calibur 2 because Ryu appears in all of the Dead or Alive games so it can't really count as a wierd crossover.

As for the other fighting game, I will have to say Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: Mirumoto_Kenjiro on May 30, 2008, 07:59:36 PM
Soul Calibur 2 is right.  It has Link in GameCube, Heihachi Mishima in PS2, and (have NO idea why) Spawn in the 360.

The second one is not it, especially because it's the first time I've heard about it.

Here's the giveaway:  I gave the hint earlier that it has the same name, but different numbers.
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: LBTFan13 on May 30, 2008, 09:10:53 PM
Soul Calibur IV (4). It has Star Wars characters in it.

Also, Soul Calibur II was released on the Xbox, but not the 360.

Mortal Kombat versus DC is an upcoming fighting game that features Mortal Kombat characters and DC Comic characters like Batman and Superman. The two of them and Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the only four comfirmed characters so far, but it's supposed to be interesting.

Ding, ding!  Soul Calibur 4 is right.  I'll be stunned to see how they can get Yoda and Darth Vader into the story line...

I know Flathead got Soul Calibur 2 first, but LBTFan polished it off.  So please don't kill me if I let LBTFan take the mic...

Video games normally don't include any swearing in dialogue unless they are rated T or above. However, which was the first rated E game to accidentally speak out a curse word, and why was the game not rated T because of it?

Mega Man X?
Title: Video Game Trivia
Post by: LBTFan13 on June 03, 2008, 06:18:58 AM
Sorry, but not the right answer. However, the original SNES version of Mega Man X did not include curse words, but when it was ported over to the Gamecube for Mega Man X Collection it received a T rating because of a couple added curse words.
