Since animals typically mature at a faster rate than humans, I would think the baby dinosaurs were only a few months old when separated from their parents. As for Spike, he's a late hatcher. Ducky did say, "You are late" when she saw him still in his egg.

General Land Before Time / Land Before Time Canon and Sequel Haters
« on: May 13, 2015, 10:11:00 PM »
I'm not a huge fan of the sequels and definitely don't see them as canon. A friendly, talking sharptooth? Please! They're bloodthirsty killers and that's how they should stay. Also, the first movie explicitly said that the only remaining members of Littlefoot's herd were his mother and grandparents. The sequels retcon a father into the story. If Littlefoot had had a living father, I'm sure the original movie would have mentioned that. It was meant to convey that all the other members of his herd had died.

The other thing I dislike is how the dinosaurs in the sequels no longer act like dinosaurs, but instead like humans in dinosaur bodies.

In the first movie, the dinosaurs were just that: dinosaurs. They were wild animals trying their best to survive in an unforgiving world. In the sequels, it's as though now that they're in the Great Valley, they've formed some kind of saurian utopia and become civilized. Mates are referred to as "husband" and "wife" and the young dinosaurs as "children." What's going to be next, Littlefoot and the gang attending school under "Mister Clubtail?" Are mating dinosaurs going to have weddings? Will there be funerals for the dead?

How about doing a story with the original gang as adults dealing with their own babies?

1988 Theatrical Release / Cera's "Sisters"

I don't count the sequels, so I can't say about them. I'm certain I remember seeing Cera's mom in the Valley. The other baby topses,  no, but the mom, yes.

1988 Theatrical Release / Most heart-wrenching moment?

The death of Little Foot's mom and his subsequent time of mourning for her. The scene where he was crying in her footprint and the scene where he thought his shadow on the cliff face was she. Very moving.

Cera's mom was in the Valley at the end of the movie. I think she was standing near Cera's father when they were nuzzling. As for the siblings, I'm certain they were there.

1988 Theatrical Release / DVD Release

I'm definitely buying that! I loved LBT and American Tail as a kid and was stunned by the first Balto movie.

I really hope the movies are in 16:9 aspect and 5.1 sound. I hate DVDs that are basically just VHS put on DVD.

I remember screaming when I saw the preview for this movie because I was such a dinosaur freak at age 11. LBT did not disappoint me. This is one of the coolest dinosaur films I've ever seen. It was very dark and gripping (the earthquake, Sharp Tooth, the death of Little Foot's mom) and also very funny (his arguments Cera, Petrie's inability to fly). My favorite part of it though, was the music. To use orchestral and choir music in a kids' movie is a rare thing indeed.

I was rather disappointed with the DVD release though, as there are no extras, it's in 4:3 and 2.0 sound format. Why not set it to 16:9 and 5.1?
