Have you ever wondered if your isp is delivering what they promise to? Take the speedtest challenge! Test your internet speed by going Here:
Click! (http://ww.speedtest.net)
Here's my current speed. My ISP is not delivering when it comes to upload though. <_<
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209292387.png)
I might have made a post like this before, but I couldn't find it. Maybe that was on another forum though. I can't remember. :)

The post you are most likely referring to is the topic here (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=1752&hl=) (yes, I keep track of this stuff, so what? :p ).
-
Well, it wasn't the same post after all! :p God that was a bad time! 2.7mbps. I'm now getting about 26mbps :D Back to normal, obviously.
-
That is faster then my slow dsl, though I expected mine to be slow since its slow dsl.
download: 658
upload: 303
ping: 227ms
distance: ~100 miles
Sorry for the no image, but I can't seem to get images to work.
-
Sadly, in some places faster internet is either super expensive or just not available. I know Action can't get much faster than what he has unless he pays a lot of money. I am fortunate to be able to get my super fast speeds of 26mbps download and 12mbps upload for less than $200, but in some more rural areas, that would cost about a thousand dollars a month if they even had it.
-
I know Action can't get much faster than what he has unless he pays a lot of money.
Yeah, I'm still getting about the same I was before:
Download: 4500 kbps
Upload: 512 kbps.
-
Ya, i remember doing this, and my results are pretty close to my previous test.
For some reason it doesn't let me connect to Calgary anymore, i dunno why, its ~50miles closer then Kelowna.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209476790.png)I seem to fare well with the connection provided by the university.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209521276.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Guess Time Warner sucks in comparison. :p As I said earlier in the other post, not much choice here.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209524927.png)
It varies from 7 MB per second to 9 MB per second.
-
I decided to see what this site would think of my dial-up internet connection.
DOWNLOAD
14 kb/s
UPLOAD
189 kb/s
PING
418 ms
This is crackpot baloney. If I'm doing nothing else, my downloads average 2.7 Kbps, and my uploads are something less. :p
-
OK. Here's mine:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209546790.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Is it bad? What do you think?
-
Okay, here's mine!
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209554459.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Hmm... definately better than my last internet connection. :)
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209558140.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Kansas City which is the closest spot to me on this map
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209558961.png) (http://www.speedtest.net) to Japan
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209559319.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
to Male, which seems to be the farthest place from my hometown on that map
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209559846.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
to Perth (seemed pretty far as well)
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209560183.png) (http://www.speedtest.net) to NYC, because I'm addicted
-
s it bad? What do you think?
Your download isn't too bad, but your upload is terrible! :o 88kps? I'd be on the phone to my ISP that instant! Do another test and if it's lower than 300kps, you need to call your ISP. That's not right...
-
Here's the speed on wireless:
Not surprisingly, it's lower than my wired speed. Wireless is never as fast or reliable as wired. :)
-

Unless it was because it couldn't accurately read my dial-up, this test didn't do mine accurately. Still, that's a pretty large gap between his download and upload speeds. Mabey he should do a test upload of some sort to see what his real speed is.
-
Austin, what if lain has no choice? You can't complain then for whatever you get. I'm sure that's not entirely accurate. (I can tell you Manny's isn't accurate if that's a dial up connection. ;) )
-
Austin, what if lain has no choice? You can't complain then for whatever you get.
I'm just saying that that ratio of upload to download is not normal and should be checked. I'm not trying to bash anyone's internet or ISP.

According to the site, Lain_EX's internet connection has a download speed twice that of my dial-up, but he has an upload speed that is less than half of my uploads, which are the fastest on dial-up *cough*. Yeah. I might not so quickly count those figures as true, unless, as I stated before, it did my test wrong because I used a different internet connection than it expected.
-
OK. I gave it another test:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209877953.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
My download speed decreased a bit, but my upload speed increased considerably! Is this better now?
-
For some reason it doesn't let me connect to Calgary anymore, i dunno why, its ~50miles closer then Kelowna.
Hmm, where are you, Flathead? Banff? Crowsnest Pass? Canmore? SW Alberta somewhere?
I'm able to connect to the Calgary server very nicely (about 20ms ping).
-
There have been times when my upload and download ratio were way off. The most noticeable time was when I had 29mbps download and 109kbps upload. I was on the phone to my ISP that instant. It turned out that there was something wrong with the wiring in my house. -_-
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/209968460.png) (http://www.speedtest.net) and to LA
-
My ratio is still screwed up. :(
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/210027990.png)
I should have at least 3mbps upload. This is WIRELESS BTW. It still does this on my main computer when I get 28mbps down and 2.5mbps up. I have no idea what's wrong. I'm gonna have to call my ISP. <_<
-
Time to revive an old thread! :D Here's my internet speed using the wireless on my laptop:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/391983214.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I'll post my wired speeds in a little bit.
Okay, here it is. I don't know why it's so slow right now. Maybe there's someone downloading stuff from my server. It should be close to 50mbps...that's what I'm paying for anyways...
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/391992873.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
EDIT: Oh and I did the wired test on my Windows 7 test machine BTW. :D
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/391992873.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
1400 miles? Did you do that on purpose?
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/392016186.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I'll never get a upload speed like that though. We usually have like.. 24 kb/s
-
1400 miles? Did you do that on purpose?
Yeah. Seattle is the closest place that has a good enough server to test my 50mbps connection. :p
-
Well, this isn't technically Speedtest.net, but it is an online internet tester, and here is a comparison between the EDGE network, 3G network, and my Wi-Fi network.
-
Still same as ever here: :p
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/410350154.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Guess I can't complain, mine's pretty reliable. :D
-
Here's mine!
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/410361059.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Hmm... I think it could use some improvement. -_-
-
pretty slow for me (No idea how to post an image)
My download is about 300kb/s and the upload is about the same.
-
PING!
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/410550194.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
This is wired as well.
-
A test by me (Now that I can access the Net from my computer again...):
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/411145582.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
-
My ISP, which was 5mbps download had just upgraded their infrastructure recently and offered a free speed boost to all of their customers of 50%, plus a number of other new free features, including "Powerboost", which basically gives me an extremely high bandwidth for a short period of time (advertised as 5-20 seconds) during downloads, useful for websites and other relatively small files.
The big downside is that my upload speed wasn't upgraded at all. I have pretty quirky-looking results now! :p
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/423140307.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I'm loving the 16+mbps download speed though, I've never seen numbers like this before in my life! :D
-
Hey Action. You and me will be the only one's that can remotely keep up with each other when it comes to transferring files (at least one way that is). :D
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/423192844.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
is that good?
-
Meh....pretty good. You could probably out-play me on WOW because of all the servers and stuff I have going on my connection. :p
EDIT: Here's my speed right now. I'm downloading 68 large torrents (I'm bad...I know), 464 people are connected to my server, and 38 people are downloading files right from my server now. :p
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/423197713.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
-
The only problem with the Powerboost feature:
It's awesome and it's fast but..it's inconsistantly fast. :p
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/423277558.png)
15mbps one time, 24mbps this time; it all depends on local usage, I imagine. Either way, I won't complain at 24 mpbs when I'm paying for a 5mbps connection. ;)
I would kill for a faster upload speed sometimes though.. :p
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/423192844.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
is that good?
I want your connection, raga. :p
-
You guys make me jealous of the Time Warner monopoly they have on this area of NY. You can't get anything else.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/553602766.png)
Huh?! We did nothing and still it's a lot better than the previous one!
What we got until like.. yesterday This is the old result:
I'm happy! :D

(http://www.speedtest.net/result/553662718.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Really seems to depend on the server used and where the file is coming from.
-
Okay, this is just terrible.

For real, I can upload up to 22kbps, and Download up to 180~200 kbps. My connection for downloading and surfing is okay, but the upload speed is horrible! It takes hours just to upload a 100MB-Archive, for example! I hate it because I really would like to upload many many things, but I can't!

Sounds like my connection before it randomly changed :p

My Comcast's been having trouble lately. My current speed:

-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/625745401.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Oh dam! I guess it makes sense for a university to have good numbers but it feels so much slower then this
Edit: I just tried it three more times and its all over the place. I don't remember exact numbers but download was 22 up to 99 then down to 37. Upload stayed around 7 or 8 the whole time though

Gees LF Fan, I'd do..quite a bit for an upload speed like that! :p
-
Whoa! OK...if you guys thought your net connection was bad...wait until you get a load of my results
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/637312578.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
This was taken at a period when it's supposed to be a low traffic flow. And to think that I actually try playing online games on my PS3 with this kinda result! :lol
-
Here's my speed on wireless right now:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/637331946.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I don't know why, but it recommended this server in South Dakota. I guess there isn't one in Minnesota anymore.
-
Well, here's the new one under my little wireless adaptar.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/637378879.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Is it just me or is this slightly worse now? :(
-
Jay that's the first time I've seen an upload speed be quicker than a download speed.
-
My latest one:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/650377903.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
What you need to understand though is I scaled back, not being at my apartment very much to a RoadRunner Lite package. I get this internet and about 15 channels of tv for $42 a month. Its much better than $100 for more when I'm not here to use it often. I'm more than pleased with these results. The speed decrease is noticeable (with video namely) but saving $70 per month makes it that much better. ;) Internet at my workplace is blazing fast...faster than I ever got at home with a wired connection.
-
hi
i tried speed test here
scanmyspeed (http://www.scanmyspeed.com/)
my download speed:1.09kbps
my upload speed:0.87kbps.
-
my download speed:1.09kbps
my upload speed:0.87kbps.

I'm at my Grandparent's house, and here's what they have.

Not that great, if you ask me.

Not great? Are you nuts? That's much better than I have!
-
This is my current wireless speed while downloading about 200gb worth of torrents:
It really hurts my speed when I'm downloading torrents. I've tried a million things to fix the problem, but I don't think it's on my end. Stupid Comcast.
And Petrie I know you posted a long time ago and things might have changed but, Comcast sucks but if you can get it you should. $42/month is a lot to pay for such horrible speeds and only 15 channels. With Comcast you could probably get around 60 channels and 4Mbps for $39.99. Not to mention I'm sure your bandwidth is limited to like 1GB per month or some other ridiculous cap.
And Pokeplayer - your connection isn't that great because of your upload speed. You can tell I have a much better connection type by the fact that my ping is 14ms and my download/upload ratio is much better. That's why my connection scores an A- while your grandparent's is a solid B. Of course, I pay a lot more than your grandparents do so their connection isn't that bad for what they're paying.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1296939520.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Nothing changed since my last test. Did I mention that I hate my connection?
We pay for 2.00 Mb/s, but we only get 1.50 Mb/s.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1296959191.png)
This is my parent's house, and I'm on the wireless connection. I'll do my own apartment later tonight with a wired connection. My parents have the better package than me, so this ought to be faster.
As for Comcast...no go. Time Warner has a monopoly on the area. There is absolutely nothing else available where I live.
-
I've looked at different internet connections a while back and they usually never went above 10 Mb/s. The ones that did, if there were any, were pretty expensive.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1297005729.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
fast enough I guess lol
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1297641037.png)
This is the result at my apartment...I've a wired connection here. I'm more than happy with this for $37 a month.
-
Huh, this is interesting. Here's my result. Not bad.

Wow it is coke.It is my results (http://www.speedtest.net/result/1297860816.png)

-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1299451733.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Ouch. Funny online PS3 games run fine.
-
And now, the hotel me and my parents are staying at.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1300033657.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
-
Most clients at hotels use it for email and contact stuff, not streaming films so I wouldn't expect a hotel to provide a killer connection.
For those who seem to gripe about 5 mbps download speeds and 500kbps upload speeds, realize not everyone lives in an area with more than one provider, if they can even get good service at all.
-
(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd515/Adder2/Photoshop%20edits/untitled.jpg) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Strange, I can download videos, etc. very fast. What's upload? When I upload something to a website? If so, that's very fast too.
What's ping?
It got the city wrong. I don't live in Carmel, Indiana. Must my computer IP, with my old one, it said I lived in Fort Wayne.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1306471872.png)
Not too bad, although it seems a bit slower at times, at least it's better than what I had with AT&T
-
Here's mine:
My internet connection is really unreliable. I can barely play online games now, because I keep on losing connection. My computer is barely a year old.
-
My connection was acting up over the last few days. It finally started working well again, and here are the results.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1326327697.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Still, I expect it to go bad on me again soon. Considering everything at least. -_-
-
Did another test just now.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1337589926.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Slightly better tonight, but I can't say much else. -_-
-
Here's my new one!

I'm loving it! :D
-
I've sen this site on another forum I joined. And nice.
-
This is my current wireless speed while downloading a lot of stuff. There are also currently 39 people connected to my server (NOT the LBT Server, as that's down at the moment.):
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1383056512.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
When I'm on wired and I'm not downloading anything (and less than 10 people are on my server), my speeds are closer to 50Mbps download and 15Mbps upload.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1383078734.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
lol weird, my download speed is 1/3 of what it was 2 months ago according to this website.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1383121707.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Huh, I'm still the same. :p
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1383645475.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I tested my connection, and it doesn't appear to be bad after all. It even says I'm below Croatian average.
-
Not bad for my connection I don't think. I think it's good at least.

-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/1437551382.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)

Maybe I should check out my speed soon.

OK, so this is tonight. We JUST got the house wired, and I have to say, I'm very happy with the results. It was as low as 78% before, and had TERRIBLE lag. But this is... great! :DD

Download is good enough for me, but dang is that upload speed bad. :(
Still, good enough for video, I guess. :)
EDIT: Speed with my VPN on.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2436780731.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Download goes down but my upload goes up? :o
This could be helpful. :)
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2436807979.png)
My current speed. I may eventually upgrade to get 50 mbps download and 6 mbps upload.
-
I'm currently on vacation in Keeniwick, WA at my grandma and grandpa's house.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2639983102.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Somewhat better than the last time I was here. :)
-
This is the speed of the internet in my apartment:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2640319258.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
It's not bad, but the ping can be quite nasty for online games.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2650592941.png)
Don't know why, but our upload speed reduced by more than half
-
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2790200059.png (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2790200059.png)
My download speed is 80.48 while the upload speed is 42.42.
That is an A.
-
Woo hoo! D minus! Alright!
I'm living in a small apartment in San Francisco. The internet is constantly shutting out and I have to leech my neighbor's NETGEAR. Next time I have to do that I'll check his internet.
EDIT: Happened today, and here's the results!
-
Mine still sucks, but it's a half step up from what I used to have.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2805688486.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I don't mind the speed, it's the ping that kills me. So many games I want to go online and play multiplayer but can't.
-
My latest at my new place:

-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2913366794.png)
I switched from a satellite Internet provider to a cable provider. Needless to say, I have seen some significant improvement!
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/3085257957.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3085257957)
Hah! Barbados internet gets a D. :p
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/3088675106.png)
I've changed my level of service with Road Runner and got them to give me the "newbie" price at $42 a month. I bug them every year about their prices.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/3094431382.png)
Nice to see that the interruptions in my service due to upgrades actually had a payoff in the end. The download speed has increased significantly.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/3375759712.png)
I had to switch Internet Service Providers as my previous ISP, Mediacom, decided to massively increase my monthly price. My current service is not as fast, but it is still fast enough to meet all of my needs. Considering that I am paying for 6 mb/s download and 1 mb/s upload, the speeds are as advertised thus far.
-
2 years later, and I'm back to good old Comcast!
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/4308484268.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4308484268)
Love it! :)
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/4309136729.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4309136729)
Wow, didn't expect it to be that good lol :D
-
That's really good, pokeplayer! Geez!
You guys and your nice upload speeds. Why don't they offer that here?? :p
Here's what I'm getting these days:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/4309330788.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4309330788)
I could upgrade that to 50 mbps download / 3.5 mbps upload but I'm too cheap. :p
-
I just moved in to my new place today and this is our Internet connection now!
Muahahahaha!
147 Mbps Download
6 Mbps upload
-
My ISP recently boosted the upload speeds of their plans across the board. Here's what it looks like these days:

At my brother's house. Here's his connection.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/5398727972.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5398727972)
Mine's better, but this is still good enough for online video.
-
Due to a freak windstorm that caused multiple blackouts yesterday, my internet connection at my place is SUPER SLOW! As such, I'm here at my work to get a connection. Tested it for the last half hour and it seems to be a good speed. About to see the results.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/5495967717.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5495967717)
Not bad! Should be good enough for YouTube. However, I find it interesting that both upload and download are so close to one another. So often you find them quite far apart.
Edit: Was back at my place for a bit and it's still bad. Pictures took FOREVER, when videos finally start, I get static with the sound and I could barely load Speedtest. I don't think I need to test it to see how bad it is.
Hopefully things will be better tomorrow! -_-
-
I need to check mine out soon.
-
Internet in the United States absolutely sucks. There's been absolutely NO innovation in the last 10 years. I get worse numbers now than I did 9 years ago in 2007:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/5498781156.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5498781156)
I'm paying $60/month just for internet. I don't have a home phone or cable TV (I have Netflix which I download movies from and I also pirate whatever Netflix doesn't have).
-
For everything I think I'm paying 135 a month and my internet is pretty good.
-
For everything I think I'm paying 135 a month and my internet is pretty good.
However the fact remains that I'm paying MORE for internet than I did 9 years ago, I have the exact same ISP, and my speeds are WORSE. Technology usually increases by around 5x in 10 years, and halves in price. So I should be paying $25/month for 150Mbps speeds. Instead I'm paying $60/month for less than 30Mbps.
The US has the worst internet infrastructure of the entire developed world. Sure we're better than Africa, but that's to be expected. Countries like Switzerland, Ireland, Germany, England, and Iceland are about 10 years ahead of us when it comes to their internet infrastructure.
Thank GOD for Google Fiber. If they can get that across the US quick enough, it will put Comcast and the like out of business. Google Fiber is 1,000Mbps internet for LESS than I'm paying now. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! :smile
-
I'm jealous of your upcoming Google Fiber. :p
My internet is fast but not 1Gbps fast! :o
-
Wow 60.00 Just for the Internet is really high. I also hope someday soon Google Fiber becomes a reality everywhere.
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/5500275686.png)
Heres mine. Not the best but it works for what I'm doing. My internet is included in the rent so thats why its not the best.
-
One interesting experience I had with Comcast back then was how I could call them up and had my friends there give me the latest deals at no extra cost. Nowadays, my friends are gone and I can't get that privilege. Oh well! -_-
Anyways, my internet returned and here's the results.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/5500763341.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5500763341)
I too hope for Google Fiber one day. It looks like it's coming to a nearby area in my home state soon. Might think about moving there in a few years if Google Fiber hasn't hit here yet. Like my apartment and everything, but I hope for an actual house one day.
Anyways, another thing I found out with my work's connection. YouTube won't work. I'm not kidding here. I keep getting an error message for it. On top of that, Google itself refuses to work because it's an open wifi connection.
I can at least be happy that Netflix runs on it. Oh, and so everyone knows, I also have Amazon Instant Video with Prime. It's actually quite good for $99 a year.
-
Not much changed. Still tough to get really fast upload speeds here though.
-
I'm just going to put this here just to show what 1000Mbps looks like on Speedtest.net
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNqGIm8YS1c (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNqGIm8YS1c)
-
As of right now I don't mind Comcast it's doing it's purpose for me.
-
Nice! I guess living just outside of the nation's capital has its perks, maybe?
-
Wowza! :o
That's a wicked upload speed, DW! :)littlefoot
-
Wowza! :o
That's a wicked upload speed, DW! :)littlefoot
I know, right? And to think I've been taking it for granted! I would certainly notice if it dropped, though, because I have to move around some pretty huge files :lol
-
My local ISP is doing a wicked promo on their new high-end internet plan. It's cheaper than my old rate and the speed is nuts!
-
Whoa, that's wicked! :p
-
Wow you have a great internet speed. Must pay quite a bit for it.
-
Wow you have a great internet speed. Must pay quite a bit for it.
Not bad considering how fast it is! $80 per month.
-
Wow very pricy almost double what I pay.
-
It's basically impossible to get internet here at all for $40 / month. :p
The cheapest plan I'm aware of around here is $55 / month. It's 5 Mbps.
I'm only paying $25 more than that for 180 Mbps. I'm okay with that. :D
Yeah it's a really dumb tier system. :p
-
Yeah I know Canada in some parts barely has wifi there. Fifty five isn't to bad I guess but you're not getting the speed you have now. So glad you're okay with paying more.
-
I recently upgraded my speed.
-
That's not a bad speed at all
-
I noted only one curve lit up on the connection while I'm at my parents house and decided to test it.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/6519488126.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6519488126)
Something's wrong! I'm switching to the other one. I'll edit the results.
EDIT: MUCH BETTER! :)
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/6519496202.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6519496202)
My parents have 3 connections. An old one they don't use anymore, a main one and a secondary one. The first is the main one, the second is the secondary one. Looks like I'm using the secondary one today.

Question for Mr. "Expert" Landbeforetimelover, is it bad for me to have zero in ping?
(http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7111342606.png) (http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7111342606)
Might explain the problems I'm having with playback today.

I know this was for Landbeforetimelover, but I can give an answer.
Essentially, what ping is, is the reaction time of your connection. The lower the ping, the better. It means your connection is very responsive.
-
Today, I have the rare privilege of being connected to my parents internet via ethernet cable. As such...
(http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116145640.png) (http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116145640)
Yeah, quite the difference.

Here's how my college Internet fares.
(http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116929458.png) (http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116929458)
It's even quicker when I connect to heaven!
(http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116932907.png) (http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7116932907)
Not so fast when I try and connect to my hometown.

I just did this with my Internet at home. Here's how the best service we can get at our house fares:

Muwahahahahaha!!! They finally got the improved cable service installed in the area.
-
I'm pretty happy with what I can get in the new apartment. Higher speeds than I had previously and I pay less, win win! :D
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/7498069810.png)
-
Rhombus, you put us all to shame. Not that I'm jealous or anything. :P
Besides, for now I'm content with what I have.

Tell me about it... barely 8 Mbps where I live...
-
For a fairly rural area, not bad!
-
I literally went to check my speed just for laughs and got this.
After I laughed at that stupidity, I refreshed the site and actually got my speeds.
...surprisingly decent uplink I gotta say.
-
Zero-point, do you know how many rural areas here in the US would kill for that kind of speed? Most rural areas are stuck with either dial-up or worse, HughesNet. *shudders*
-
(http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7549381267.png) (http://ww.speedtest.net/result/7549381267)
Videos keep buffering but they usually don't; I'll have to retest when they don't buffer every 30 seconds. :sducky
-

^ I can attest. When I’m not at college, I’m in a semi-rural area outside one of the main cities in my state, and the best Internet service we can get isn’t even as good as what zero-point has (albeit WAY better than dial-up or HughesNet, which are indeed the only options in many parts of my state) :sducky

As promised, new results:

For a hotel, I'm impressed. I wasn't expecting something this good.

Not as good as I would like, but not actually bad.

I'm testing a new modem. I'll talk about it in another thread when I'm done testing. Here's the test speed.
That Ping definitely could use some improvement. :rhett_ohsnap
Edit: Back to my current modem.

Hmm... The two are an interesting comparison.
-
Hello, everyone! I'm messaging from a certain location I'll talk about in another topic.
For now, here's the test speed of our internet connection here.
(https://www.speedtest.net/result/12183510146.png) (https://www.speedtest.net/result/12183510146)
This is incredibly good. Especially for what we plan to do with the place in question.

New modem means new connection test!
First test, via Ethernet Cable!

Pretty good, if I do say so myself!
Edit: Looks like it's the same without the Ethernet Cable.

Never had it so good. :cerasmug

I'm living in a small apartment in San Francisco. The internet is constantly shutting out and I have to leech my neighbor's NETGEAR.
I'm glad I once posted in this thread so I can now compare it to my modern setup. Eight years later I've moved across four different states, two different countries and around 9 different cities, and have finally settled down as an archivist/video editor who uploads hundreds of GB of files daily, so I needed kickass internet. 2013 me would be so jealous!

My new fiber-optic connection is a huge improvement from my old cable connection. One of the many advantages from my move.
-
I got a free upgrade! Time for a test!
Speedtest is down at the moment, but I tried the main site for my IP and got this after a reset.
