(As before, this is a simple game. Just start each post with a letter which continues the alphabetical order)
As dawn rose over the Great Valley, the dinosaurs began to slowly wake up from their much-needed rest. The previous night had been unusually loud, what with all the volcanoes erupting in the nearby mountains. Now, all was quiet.
-
Before any of the Great Valley residents began to awaken, the stars in the sky faded as the Bright Circle rose up over the mountains.
-
Curled up, Littlefoot slowly woke up...
On the other side of the valley, Cera woke up as well, as did her half-sister Tricia.
-
Ducky was the next to arise, and as usual, she had a good amount of difficulty getting Spike to wake up.
-
Even as the sun rose, Petrie was already up... he flew over the threehorns, who were still waking...
-
Far from their friends' nests, Chomper and Ruby woke up when light entered through their cave entrance.
-
Getting up, Ruby took a moment to stretch her legs and feet. For her size and age, they were well-developed limbs... she wasn't called a fast runner for nothing.
-
However, despite her efforts, Ducky was still unable to wake up Spike.
-
In the cave, Chomper got up and walked over to meet Ruby. "Good morning Ruby. Did you sleep well?"
"The loud sounds from the smoking mountains were very noisy... I think they were loud because they were noisy..." Ruby replied in a typical fashion...
Her problems were not as bad as those Tria had... she had needed her rest even more...
-
"Just because I'm little doesn't mean I'm afraid of no noise!" Chomper yelled defiantly.
-
Killing a bug by stepping on it, Chomper angrily stomped on the ground in the cave, but he calmed down in a moment... he was young, but he was still a predator, and already had some of the killer instincts in him...
-
Later, the dinosaurs began to search out food to eat and water to drink, and Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Chomper, and Ruby met in a grassy field.
-
"Morning, guys. Who's up for a game?" greeted Littlefoot.
-
"Not me" Cera said, sounding tired. "The smoking mountains kept me up for much of the night."
-
"Oh, sorry. Anyone else?" asked Littlefoot as he glanced from one sleepy friend to the next.
-
"Perhaps we can ask if any are up for a game, or if we want to rest somewhere and talk, make up stories or look at sky puffies and say what they look like. Those can be fun, they can, they can." Ducky said.
-
"Quite fun indeed" Ruby said, lying down to look at the sky-puffies. The others also lay down to do the same...
-
"Right. I think that sounds fun, too," said Cera as she joined her friends in looking at the sky-puffies.
-
"See that one? It looks like a treestar!" Littlefoot said.
"You say that about every leaf" Cera replied.
-
"There is one that looks like sweet bubbles, it does, it does." Ducky said nodding as she pointed to one of the clouds.
-
"Uhh... that one looks like Mr. Threehorn" Chomper said to the rest of the group.
-
"Very much does look like my father," replied Cera before she glanced at another sky-puffy. "And that one looks like the bunch of us napping together."
-
"Wow, it does, it does." Ducky said nodding as she looked it it.
-
"Xactly" Ruby said. "Speaking of naps, I think we should have one" she said, yawning. "I wouldn't feel tired if I wasn't so sleepy."
-
"You know we could take a nap here, we could we could." Ducky said.
-
"ZZZZZZZZZZZZ" was all that came out of Spike. Unsurprisingly, he was already asleep.
-
After a little while, the dinosaurs began to wake. Littlefoot got up first... he didn't want to wake Ruby because she was tired... a growing girl like her needed her rest...
-
But Spike was still the hardest to wake up, as usual.
-
"Come on Spike... get up" Ducky said. "It is time to go, it is, it is."
-
"Ducky, try holding some food in front of his sniffer," suggested Chomper.
-
Eventually, Ducky did just that, and Spike woke up... then proceeded to eat a whole bush.
-
"Finally, Spike's up. What should we do now, guys?" asked Littlefoot.
-
"Guess what?" Cera said "Tria has invited us to the mud pools again"
A collective groan of disappointment came from the boys, except for Spike, while the girls (and Spike) emitted a collective sigh of longing.
-
"Hey, that is not a bad idea. I am in, yep yep yep," chirped Ducky.
-
"I guess we all should go there with Tria then." Chomper said, "She is nice."
-
"Just so you know, she is nice. It just took me a while to see it," said Cera.
-
"Killing me, my feet are" Ruby said. "It would be nice to relax."
-
"Let's all run over to where she is." Chomper said.
"Petrie rather fly then run." Petrie said.
Spike sighed, remembering how relaxing the mud had been.
"Spike likes the idea, he does, he does." Ducky said to which Spike nodded.
-
"Mud... mud is so boring!" Chomper said. Even at his age, he had all of the energy of a male sharptooth...
-
"No one says you have to come." Cera said to Chomper. "Guess I'd best head over there or Dad'll not let me hear the end of it." Cera said looking up with her eyes.
-
"Old threehorn can't tell me what to do!" Chomper said. "I'm going to look for crawlers to eat."
-
"Perhaps it is best you do that. You'll at least have fun." Cera said before walking off in the direction of where she would meet Tria.
"I want to come too. If Spike likes the mud it must be good, it must it must." Ducky said climbing onto Spike.
-
Questing on, Chomper found some crawlers alright, but then a stomping noise could be heard... Topsy and Tria were headed this way!
-
"Running may not be needed but it soon if we no hurry." Petrie said, though not sure about going anywhere to just sit in some mud.
-
"So? What is the little Sharptooth doing here?" Topsy queried.
"Chomper! So nice to see you!" Tria said. "Were you going to join us at the mud pools?"
-
"There is no reason Chomper can't come with us to the mud pools if he wishes." Tria said to Threehorn. She then turned to Chomper, "Do you want to come. You don't have to if you don't want to." She said to him.
"I'm certainly coming." Cera said.
"I am too, I am, I am." Ducky said with Spike nodding vigorously. He had really enjoyed his last visit to the mud pools.
-
Under these circumstances, Chomper didn't wanted to go, but he also didn't want to disappoint his friends. " I'll go with you" he said.
-
"Understand, none of you have to come if you don't want to." Tria said looking at those present.
-
"Very good" Tria said. "I'm sure we will all enjoy ourselves today..." Chomper went along...
-
"We had best get started heading over there if we want to spend as much time as we can. Is everyone ready?" Tria asked looking around at those present.
-
"Yes! You bet!" Cera said. Her sore muscles craved the relaxation that the mud pools offered her.
-
"Zzzz." Spike said, having dozed off while the others were talking.
-
After waking Spike up, the nine dinosaurs made it to the mud pools...
-
Before the others Cera went towards the mudpools, having been there before. She paused to look at the others, "Who's coming, or are you scared of a little mud?" She asked.
-
Chomper shouted "I'm not scared!" and jumped into the mud to prove Cera wrong...
-
Ducky got off of Spike and ran to jump into the mud also. "I am not scared of mud, no I am not." Ducky said.
-
Eventually, all of them got into the mud... even Mr. Threehorn, who lay down next to his mate.
-
For a while none of them spoke, but relaxed into the warm mud. Petrie and Ducky in the shallower area with Tricia, and the large folks in the deeper areas.
-
Getting up, Tria moved over to a small waterfall in the mud, to go run some water over her back.
-
Having fun Ducky lay in the mud and relaxed more. This was more fun then she thought that it was going to be. The warm mud was so relaxing.
-
In Tria's case, fun wasn't the reason she was there... she needed some relief from her stress... raising a hatchling was not easy work.
-
"Just as I suspected. This feels so good, yep yep yep. I am glad I came," said Ducky as she squished mud between her toes.
-
"Keep doing this and me skin may feel softer." Petrie said.
-
Later on, the dinosaurs left the mud pools to cool off...
-
Mud covering her body Ducky followed the others who had been there before to the area to clean the mud off of her body, running and jumping into the water once she saw it.
-
"Now don't you all feel better?" Tria asked with a sigh.
-
"oh, I do, I do." Ducky said nodding as she floated on the area of water a bit more still and away from where the waterfall fell into the water.
-
"Perhaps we can..." Tria said to her mate. Now that both of them were very relaxed, their minds turned toward matters not meant for the children's ears...
-
"Running and jumping in the mud may be fun." Littlefoot said.
"We can try that next, we can we can." Ducky said.
"I bet I can make a bigger mud splash then both of you combined." Cera said looking at Ducky and Littlefoot.
-
Soon enough, they did just that, and enjoyed splashing around in the mud.
-
Then they started splashing the mud on each other, laughing as they did so.
-
Until, at last, it was time for them to go back to their nests. It was time for dinner...
-
Very quickly Spike, carring Ducky, ran to their parent's nesting area as fast as he could. Petrie flew away and Littlefoot and Cera walked to their folks's nesting area.
-
While this happened, Tria and Topsy moved to the side to talk...
-
Xanthic flower pedals blew in the gentle breeze near Cera's father's nesting area. As she drew close she saw Guido and Tricia sleeping next to each other. He had been watching her that day and each of them had tired the other one out. Cera went close to the 2 that were sleeping and settled down beside them to go to sleep.
-
Yet, even as the children slept, Tria and Topsy were not asleep next to them...
-
Zig-zagging around trees and bushes Spike, still carrying Ducky, quickly ran on till they got the their parents nesting area. Once there they ate an evening meal and went to sleep. Littlefoot & Petrie arrived at home and did the usual before going to sleep.
-
At dawn, all was quiet in the valley. It was a nice change of pace from the previous night...
-
Before anyone awoke in the area Guido quickly and quietly left the area so he'd not be shouted at by Ceras dad, or stomped on. He climbed a tree and flew to Petrie's nest area.
-
"Come on Cera, let's go get some food. You too, Tria" Topsy said.
-
Ducky and some of her siblings awoke before their parents and they went to jump into the water to get a drink then start to play in the water.
-
Eating their food, Spike and Ducky found many treestars.
-
Fortunately Littlefoot awoke about the same time as his grandparents. Together the 3 of them went to the nearby stream to get a drink then they went to eat some treestars and underwater green food.
-
"Goodness, I slept like a rock lastnight. I did not even hear you snoring, nope nope nope," Ducky said to Spike as they ate their breakfast.
-
High into the air flew Petrie, after having eaten a bit, looking for his friends. He flew the usual route looking downward for any sign of his friends. "Me wonder what they up to this morning." He said.
-
Instead of going to the watering hole that morning, Cera and her family went to the river. The grown-ups were going to wash there for some reason...
-
Just then Petrie saw Ducky & Spike with their other siblings so he landed near them. "Me glad to see you 2." He said to Ducky and Petrie.
-
KLAP! KLAP! That was the sound made by the footfalls of dinosaurs walking through the mud as they went through it to go get some fresh water from the river...
-
Littlefoot looked up at his grandparents.
"Since I have finished my breakfast can I go and play with my friends?" Littlefoot asked.
"Sure." Grandpa Longneck said.
"Be safe." Grandma Longneck said.
"I will, and thanks. Littlefoot said, running off to see if he could find any of his friends and see what they were up to. He wondered what sorts of fun they would have today.
-
Many dinosaurs were gathered at the river, but Littlefoot and his gang were not; they had gathered along a grassy field in the center of the valley. They would be rolling seeds down a hill, hoping to knock them into a collection of seeds at the bottom of a hill.
-
Nearby Ducky and Petrie watched while the others took their turn. Some other kids were playing not to far off out of sight of them and some other kids farther away as well.
-
"Ow!" Ruby said as she stubbed her toe on a hard seed when she kicked it. Nevertheless, her kick sent it flying pretty far.
-
Petrie jumped up and down excitedly with Ducky beside him, cheering on the larger folks. "That good." He said.
"It was, it was." Ducky said still jumping up and down in excitement.
-
"Quite good" Ruby said, hopping on one foot. "If only it didn't hurt so much, it would be even better."
-
"Really, guys, we should do something much more exciting than kicking seeds around," sighed Cera as she flopped down to take a break.
-
"So, what do you think we should do?" Littlefoot asked Cera.
-
"Quickly we could run to the mysterious beyond till we find an adventure, we could we could." Ducky said.
"Me thing me rather be bored." Petrie said shivering at the memory of some of the adventures they had had. Though perhaps a coward compared to the others of his friends, he was the bravest of his siblings.
-
(T is after S!)
"The mysterious beyond is dangerous!" Topsy said, suddenly appearing from out of a stade of trees. "Even if you are bored, none of you kids have any business going there."
-
"um, what we do then?" Petrie asked.
-
"Valley activities," replied Topsy.
-
"Wow, you mean like running around, screaming, running from bullies?" Ducky asked.
-
"X-actly," Topsy replied.
-
"You know... we know where to find some bullies" said a voice... it was Hyp! And he had brought Nod and Mutt along with him!
-
"Zounds." Ducky said, having heard one of her aunts say that. "We need to leave here quckly, we do , we do." Ducky said.
-
At that moment, Tria stepped forward. "You bullies! Leave these kids alone!"
-
Bullies weren't too fond of adults. "We should go Hyp," suggested Nod.
-
Cera shouted at the bullies "That's right, run! No one messes with us!"
-
"Do you think I will?" Hyp retorted.
-
Even as Hyp said that, Tria stomped her foot in the dirt, sending Hyp, Nod, and Mutt fleeing.
-
"Flee." Petrie said and started to fly away from the bullies, with Ducky not far behind him.
-
"Grr! I was just about to kick some dino tail, too!" Cera snorted as the bullies took off.
-
"Ha! And don't come back!" Ruby said to the fleeing bullies.
-
"Interrupting and being bullies are what they do best." Littlefoot said.
-
"Just be sure to come to me if the bullies bother you again" Tria said.
-
"Kill em! That's what you oughta do to bullies, Tria. Cera said. "Stomp them into the dirt!"
"Well, maybe I'll just drive them off" Tria said, looking down at her feet "Then again" she said with a mischievous smile "I'm sure I could stomp pretty hard..."
Lucky for the bullies, she wasn't serious.
-
"Maybe we should just stay away?" Mutt said looking at Hyp.
-
"Nah" replied Hyp. "Let's just bother them some other time... when those threehorns aren't looking!"
-
"oooh, gosh, that is a good idea Hyp. We may avoid getting ouchies that way." Mutt said nodding and doing his usual grin.
-
"Perhaps we might..." Hyp said.
Later that day...
The children were off in the sheltering grass...
-
Quietly they were talking, discussing what sort of fun or game they could play next.
-
"RRarrr!" Chomper was "playing" at being a sharptooth...
-
Spike, getting bored, started to sniff at some nearby green food and began eating it, his eyes half open as usual.
-
There was much playing in the mud, later that day. The children reacted to it with varying degrees of enthusiasm, with Petrie liking it the least, Ducky liking it the most...
"Of course you like it" Petrie said to Ducky "You spend much time in muddy water!"
-
Under the mud Ducky put a hand, then looking at Petrie she pulled her hand out." I do like playing in water, I do, I do, but the water I play in most is clean, not muddy, no, no, no. But muddy water can be fun to play in." Ducky said.
"Yea, it sure can. Though that means our folks will make us get clean again. I don't see why, we'll just get dirty again." Littlefoot said.
"More of the grown ups crazy ideas." Cera said with the look on anoyance on her face.
"Let us get back to having fun." Ducky siad.
-
Very dirty is what they were... and, as Cera said, the adults made them wash all that mud off... in clean water.
-
"Why do we have to wash and get clean? I'll just get dirty again." Littlefoot said, having asked the question before from time to time.
Ducky happily jumped into the clean water, playing in that as much as she did cleaning of herself.
-
"Xactly!" Ruby said. "My mommy says that we get clean so that if we get dirty again, we can just be clean again."
-
"Yet we always get dirty the next day." Littlefoot said.
"If not sooner." Petrie said, remembering some of the scary adventures they had at night, that did not keep them clean.
-
"ZZZZZ" said Spike, who had fallen asleep along the side of the water.
-
Above the water Ducky burst, having swam a bit underwater, having fun while getting clean also. "Wheee." She said as she burst above the water.
-
But she ended up splashing Littlefoot... and Cera.
-
Cera shook herself, looking at Ducky. "Hey, watch it." She said with an annoyed voice, though not as much as if she were talking to a stranger since Ducky was a friend of hers.
"Sorry, I did not mean to splash you, no I did not." Ducky said shaking her head.
"It's ok, just be careful next time." Cera said.
-
Ducky got out of the water and went to dry herself off on a rock. She enjoyed sunning herself quite a bit...
-
Every one of the kids decided to also dry out and sun themselves as well, going over to close to where Ducky was.
-
Feeling the sun on her back, Cera stretched out and sighed with relief.
-
Guido launched himself into the air, gliding along in the sky, enjoying the wind and sun, and wondering what his friends were up to at that moment, and looking down to see if he could see them.
-
Having had some time to sun herself, Ducky stretched out and got up. She was hungry, and went to go get some food...
-
Inside the Great Valley there were many sources of different types of green food for plant eaters, including tree sweets. Ducky would not have far likely to find something to eat, depending on what her mood was to eat.
-
Just as Ducky was about to eat a nice, juicy treestar, Spike came forward and ate it in a single bite!
-
Kangaroo like Ducky hopped up. She glared at Spike for a moment angry, then turned her back to him and went to another place where she could get some green food for herself.
-
(Alphabetical order... K is after J, Kor)
"KRAAKK!!"
Suddenly, a tree began to fall over.... falling where the children were!
-
"Look out!" Cera screamed as she scrambled away from where she had been sunbathing.
-
Moving quickly, Littlefoot grabbed Ducky and passed her to Spike, then went to help out Ruby.
-
"Not a good time to be daydreaming, Petrie!" Cera scolded as she rushed over to a dazed Petrie, scooped him up with her nasal horn, and sped out of the tree's path. Petrie had been startled, but then he realized what could have happened to him and sighed in relief. He then hugged Cera's face.
"Thank you, Cera," was all he could say.
"Yeah, yeah! Just don't do that again!" Cera growled, but then she calmed down and could not help but be nice to Petrie.
-
Of course, the whole gang got out safely.
-
Perhaps the cause of the tree's collapse was an earthshake! But no, it wasn't that... it was simply old and rotten...
-
Quickly, the gang gathered, and once they made sure everyone was safe and accounted for, they went on with their day. They weren't about to let a fallen tree get them down!
-
Really, they weren't. Within an hour, they had forgotten all about it.
