While I'm very sad that LBT had to end (actually, that should be past tense, as it was long ago that I read the announcement that convinced me it was officially over), and I can't say I'm at all happy with the way they closed it, I'm personally glad they didn't do so by showing the gang as adults or adolescents. At least fanfiction writers have a lot of freedom to create new LBT stories, allowing the gang to continue having adventures and interacting with other characters (both canon and fan-created), and able to portray them growing up and having families of their own as they choose. (For instance, they have no restrictions on the names, gender, appearance, speech habits, or number of the gang's children; what the gang look like as adults; whether their personalities have changed any; who their mates are; whether Petrie, Ducky, and Spike speak any differently as adults; which other characters, particularly the gang's parents and other elders, are still alive, etc.) This allows for more numerous and more diverse fanfictions, which in turn contribute more to keeping LBT's legacy alive.
