General Land Before Time / Auctioning off LBT stuff on eBay.
« on: January 13, 2011, 08:28:32 PM »
I have found, in these cash-stricken and tough economic times, that I've had to put up a few things to auction on eBay in order to get some extra money. Some of it's stuff that I never would have used anyway that had no value whatsoever to me, and some of it I kind of wanted to keep, but, whatever.

What I'm posting about here is that, for the aforementioned reason, I'm selling off my The Land Before Time stuff in one lot. In one way, it's kind of an end of an era for me, but this is something that I feel like I have to do at this point, given the circumstances. I hardly use this stuff, anyway, and maybe there's somewhere out there, perhaps even at this message board, that would get better use out of it. I intend to post it on eBay on January 15, but before doing so, I wanted to entertain the notion of possibly working out a deal with someone here on it. Pictures of the stuff are located here. For reference, here's what my eBay description will look like:
Quote
This auction is for a collection of The Land Before Time items. Included in the auction are all things pictured above:

  • The Land Before Time VHS in a sleeve.

  • The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure VHS in a clam shell.

  • The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving VHS in a clam shell.

  • The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists VHS in a clam shell.

  • The Land Before Time Sing Along Songs Burger King Screening Cassette VHS in a clam shell. This is a particularly rare item. The contents of the video are the same as the regular The Land Before Time Sing Along Songs VHS released in 1997, but this is a special version available only through Burger King back in the day. It was, according to information printed on the front and back of the clam shell, a "FULL-LENGTH SCREENING CASSETTE with PROMOTIONAL TRAILER". Instructions on the front say, "Please return to your sales representative after viewing. This does NOT represent final video sleeve art." Information on the back directed at the viewer explain in detail MCA/UNIVERSAL HOME VIDEO's advertising campaign for consumer impressions, including LBT distributions at "over 7,000 Burger KingÆ restaurants nationwide". The promotion lasted May through June 1997, with a statement that, "The Land Before TimeÆ SingïAlongïSongs ARRIVES MAY 13, 1997!" I've watched the video from end to end, and find that the contents are essentially the same as the regular consumer/retail version eventually released, with ten songs from the movies, including a special version of "If We Hold On Together" sung by Cera's and Ducky's voice actors Anndi McAfee and Aria Curzon, respectively, who took their roles after LBT IV. The songs are preceded by informational sections about real dinosaurs.

  • The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration DVD in case. Very good condition, but there is sticker residue at the top of the plastic cover protecting the front artwork. Complete with liner notes. The security sticker is still inside.

  • The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses DVD in case. Very good condition. Complete with liner notes. The security sticker is still inside.

  • The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers DVD in case. Very good condition. Complete with liner notes and the special DVD case sleeve. The liner notes include a now-expired coupon. The security sticker is still inside.

  • The Land Before Time XIII: The Wisdom of Friends DVD in case. Includes the episode "The Hidden Canyon" from the Cartoon Network The Land Before Time television series. Very good condition. Complete with liner notes and the special DVD case sleeve. The bottom section of a page of the liner notes was cut by me because it was a now-expired coupon, and I tired to use it, but the store didn't take it, so I put it back in. The security sticker is still inside.

  • The Land Before Time: Amazing Adventures! DVD in case. Includes the following episodes from the television series: "The Cave of Many Voices", "Canyon of the Shiny Stones", "The Meadow of Jumping Water", and "The Spooky Nighttime Adventure." Complete with liner notes. The bottom section of a page of the liner notes was cut by me because it was a now-expired coupon, and I tired to use it, but the store didn't take it, so I put it back in. The security sticker is still inside.

  • The Songs From The Land Before Time CD. The CD and case are in like new condition. The CD contains the following songs from the movies: 1 You Are One Of Us Now (from LBT II), 2 When You're Big (LBT III), 3 Kids Like Us (LBT III), 4 Peaceful Valley (LBT II), 5 Who Needs You (LBT IV), 6 Standing Tough (LBT III), 7 Grandma's Lullaby (LBT IV), 8 Eggs (LBT II), 9 It Takes All Sorts (LBT IV), and 10 If We Hold On Together, a special version of the Diana Ross song from the original movie that's sung by Aria Curzon and Anndi McAfee. It's very pretty in my opinion. I've listened to the CD just to make sure it doesn't skip, and I can assure you that it doesn't. This is a very rare CD that's extremely hard to find. Even used prices are up the roof on other shopping websites, and I certainly couldn't find one in any given condition on the rest of eBay.

  • Large 14" Littlefoot plushie from KELLYTOY.

  • Large 14" Cera plushie from KELLYTOY.

  • Large 14" Ducky plushie from KELLYTOY.

  • Large 14" Petrie plushie from KELLYTOY.

  • Large 14" Spike plushie from KELLYTOY.

  • Small Cera toy that squirts air out of a small hole in the mouth, typical of small kids' toys of its era.

Each of the aforementioned DVDs and VHS tapes are in very good condition. All have been tested, and there is no fuzz on the VHS tapes or skipping on the CD and DVDs. All are complete, and the CD and DVDs come with the appropriate liner notes. The plushies are in very good condition, with no rips on the fabric. The tags are still attached, though they are slightly bent. More pictures are located here. Feel free to ask for more pictures. I never put reserve prices on my auctions, so bid with confidence. The shipping price includes tracking and insurance.

I'll need to receive payment before shipping the item. As per eBay's rules, I only accept PayPal. If you're bidding on other items of mine or are considering it, fell free to contact me and ask about combining shipping to receive a discount on the shipping of your purchases from me. I'll accept alternate delivery methods for faster shipping, but you'll get the fastest results if you contact me about this before the auction ends or paying for it. The shipping cost will be updated accordingly. While the item shouldn't take more than 12 days to arrive after being shipped and almost always arrives in less than 7, sometimes the carrier has issues, they get delayed or temporarily misplace the shipment, issues arise at international borders and customs, etc. If them item doesn't arrive within 31 days of shipping, you'll be allowed a refund according to my refund policy. If you find anything in the transaction that would make you rate me anything other than 5 stars in any DSR category (Item as described, Communication, Shipping time, and Shipping and handling charges), please feel free to contact me. Further shipping, return policy, and feedback details are provided in the Shipping and payments tab above.

Now, assuming you're interested, you can send me a personal message or email (or post in this topic if the PM system isn't working), and we'll work out a price of some kind. You can pay me three basic ways. First is the eBay way, PayPal. Pay this way, and I can send the box of stuff instantly. If I get paid for selling on eBay, I get hit with a fee because it was a purchase, but this way, it can be a personal transfer between us, and there are no fees involved. Second is a check through the mail if you have an aversion with PayPal. I can't send the box until the check arrives and has been cashed with the actual money in my hand, verifying that the check's not hot. Plus, you've got to hope the check arrives. I can't do much if the check gets lost in the mail, though. I can't be held liable for that. Third, if you're a real daredevil, you can attempt to send raw cash through the mail. You still have to wait for me to get it, but I can send the box at once at that point. Just remember, though: if the United States Postal Service or whatever carrier you use fumbles the shipment of money, I'm not liable. Do remember one thing, though: There's a lot of stuff here, some of it fairly common commodities, some of it really rare stuff, and plenty of movies, shows, and the sing along thing to go with them, so I'm going to want this to be worth my while. Again, send me a personal message to work out a deal, but keep the combined value of this stuff in mind, since I've already done online research to determine the lowest prices this stuff goes for, and have determined what my eBay starting price will be.

General Discussions is for non-LBT stuff, and this message board is said to be for anything not directly related to the films or show, so this looked to be the best place to post it. If I have done wrong in doing so, feel free to move this topic.

EDIT: I've heard tell that the PM system isn't working, so you can also post here or use the email function that Invision Free has.

Am I the only one that likes these court television shows? Am I the only one that thinks that Jude Judy is the only "good" one? Am I the only one that likes her method of pulling out lies? Am I the only one that likes the oddness therein? Am I the only one that doesn't wish to be in her courtroom? :lol Who else is with me!? :p

The Fridge / When nothing goes right.
« on: November 24, 2007, 10:23:59 AM »
I was wrapping up for the night (it was like 11:30 PM or something), and about to head for bed. I needed to use a video converting program to manufacture a good set of JPG images from a 22-something minute long AVI file that was 270 MB. I just needed a few screenshots, but to do that, I had to convert the entire thing, which is about a 8 or 10 minute process. So, I started the program up and opened the file up in the software. Now, I didn't want my desktop getting bombed (as it has before), so I created a simply named folder on the Desktop and directed the program to convert to that folder. I had it start the converting process, and I went off to brush my teeth. I later came back to find, to my horror, that the program didn't convert to my folder as it was instructed to; it converted straight to my desktop. My desktop got hit with over 40,000 JPG images that were around 10 KB each and totaled 450-something MB. My RAM was starting to get sucked dry.

I had done this before, but it was with a 3 or 5 minute AVI that only produced a few thousand images, not tens-of-thousands.

It was late, and I wanted the mess to end NOW. To clean the mess up as quickly as posssible, I decided to move all of my "important" files to the "C:\" directory and make a new Desktop folder in C:\Documents and Settings\"Manny"\. I renamed "Desktop" to "Desktopj" and quickly created a new folder named "Desktop," This is when things got stupid. It continued to think that Desktopj was the real desktop, but it wouldn't let me delete Desktop because Windows XP also thought that was the real Desktop, so I had two different Desktops. I had to reset the computer (which was a belated process) to delete Desktop and be able to rename Desktopj back to Desktop. When I did, I decided to go with the long task of creating drag windows and deleting the files that way, since I could find a cheap way to dispose of the garbage that didn't involve outright deleting the folder Desktop (I didn't want to find out what would happen if I did). I found that it dragged quicker if I reduced the window height to almost nil and moved the folder windows to the very top of the screen. I would create a drag box as close as I could to the top, then move the mouse all the way down. It was dragging pretty fast, and whenever it got slow, I would just delete what I had dragged (usually around 6000 to 10000 files) up to that point. The more I had gotten rid of, the quicker the computer was and the quicker the folder navigating process was (I liked to monitor how many files it was actually removing since it never told me directly). When I had gotten rid of it, I loaded the program up again and once again set it to convert to my specialized folder, which it actually did this time (it was still a 8-10 minute process converting, though). When it had finished, I seached around in the mass of JPG images, found the 3 images I wanted, and spent around 9 or 10 minutes recycling the rest (you know, it takes much more time to recycle two 250 MB files than it does 40,000 10 KB files). When all was finsihed and the computer was shut down and I got to bed, it had to be at least 1:30 AM here. Ugh.

Don't you just love computer troubles that keep you up late (or early, whatever) in the morning? Have you ever had weird computer troubles like this? (I also recently had an antivirtus program situation that keep me up to am even later 2:30 or 3:00 AM, and got me up at 5:00 when I realized the computer was still on and that I had fallen to sleep admist the process)

The Fridge / Fingerhut.
« on: November 18, 2007, 05:10:24 PM »
We get Fingerhut catalogs all of the time. It just happens. For those who don't know what it is, look here. Anyway, I was looking at a few items and their prices in a catalog, and even I was impressed by how high they were. A PlayStation 2 costs $199.99. Wal-Mart's (and, really, just about anywhere else) price? $129 something. An Nintendo DS Lite goes for $199.99. Wal-Mart's price? Around $130. A Wii at Fingerhut is a staggering $399.99. Wal-Mart's price? $249 something. Wow. Wow.

Does anybody here get Fingerhut catalogs, or know what they are?

The Fridge / Edit box.
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:35:10 PM »
As you may know by now, I've been messing with InvisionFree for awhile now. There should be an option when you edit a post that you can check, whether the 'This post was edited by' thing is present or not in your post after you edit it. However, it is missing for the members. So why am I saying anything? Well, 'other' member groups have that option, at least from what I've seen. There's an option in the InvisionFree to fix this for the individual member groups. What I'm petitioning is that this option be enabled for us 'common members.'

EDIT: Edit.

Computer and Electronics / Added smilies.
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:14:10 PM »
I noticed that three of the added smilies have these white spots and look not as good as the others when placed against a colored background. I did fix them up, but there's a problem.

They may not look animated, but there are definitely multiple pictures packed into those files if downloaded. But, anyway, when I tried to make them transparent and animated at http://www.gifworks.com/, they didn't animate quite the same as the original ones here.
:yes
:bang
:cry2
Can someone here make them transparent and fix them up where they animated at them same speed as the other versions used on this board so that they can make suitable replacements?

General Land Before Time / The Land Before Time Sing Along Songs
« on: October 20, 2007, 07:02:27 PM »
I'm an avid garage/yard sale visitor (I like to go to them). This can have it's benefits. I was doing this, and my mother (who is well aware that I'm an LBT fan) was kind enough to point out an interesting item for me today -- a Sing Along VHS tape. It's like the first one, but it's a little different.

The description on the front says:
Quote
FULL-LENGTH SCREENING CASSETTE

with PROMOTIONAL TRAILER

Please return to your sales representative after viewing.

This does NOT represent final video sleeve art.
Apparently, it was a promotion set up by Burger King (their logo is on the back, as well as mentioned in the video) to give viewers a test to what was to "ARRIVE MAY 13, 1997!". It's a full 30 minutes with all of the songs from the CD that accompanies the VHS tape of the first LBT Sing Along Song tape, including the Anndi McAfee version of "If We Hold On Together" (but I could swear that it's in a lower key or something). Except for a few subtle differences like stuff relating to the promotion of the LBT franchise, a message on the tape itself that says "DEMO TAPE ONLY.", and two text messages that appears, which is "PROPERTY OF UNIVERSAL STUDIOS" (appears twice, once near the end, and once near the beginning) and "If you have rented or purchased this cassette call 1-800-NO COPYS(1-800-662-6797)", it appears to be the full thing.

Apparently, I've got a copy of it that I really shouldn't have got -- back in 1997, anyway.

It's purchases like this that promote my status from "LBT fan" to "LBT collector".

And to think that I only paid $2 for this.

I'm such a cheapskate.

The Fridge / Dihydrogen monoxide.
« on: October 17, 2007, 07:06:07 PM »
Dihydrogen monoxide is a very dangerous substance. Here is a summary of it's killing ability:

"Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death."

But, high ranking people have succeeded in hiding the existence of this dangerous substance from normal people like you and me. I had never even heard of the stuff before today. But don't you be fooled! Visit the Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division website to get the real story. Your life, or the life of someone you care about, may depend on it.

Computer and Electronics / Manny Cav's tech requests.
« on: September 07, 2007, 12:06:44 AM »
I have had an odd ill-ability to stream some music files with Firefox. It forces me to download them when I used to be able to stream them. An example site where this occurs is http://www.vgmusic.com/. None of the MIDIs want to stream for me. Used to, I could use either Windows Media Player or QuickTime, depending on if I had QuickTime installed at the time, but now, I can't stream anything like that. Stuff like YouTube videos still work, but I can't seem to be able to stream any music. I can, however, stream with Internet Explorer. I could swear that Firefox could do it once. Is there a way to fix this? And I'm not taking "use IE, idiot" for an answer.
