Animator Joe Murray is bringing back "Rocko's Modern Life" for a 1-hour special that's going to be airing some time this year on Nickelodeon!

(For the youngest GOF members who were too young or not born yet when Rocko was on,) Joe Murray is the man who also created "Camp Lazlo" on Cartoon Network that aired from 2005 to 2008.

I'll give this special a chance, guys. Rocko was my **favorite** nickelodeon cartoon as a kid and it still is today!  It was originally on from 1993 to 1996 (when I was between 4 and 7 years old.)

No nickelodeon cartoon tickles my funny bone or cracks me up **harder** than Rocko!  And it helped give me the funny personality that I have today!

Here's what I know about this Rocko special so far. My sources are honest, and only taken from his animation studio's website. (This is *not* taken from Wikipedia, where anyone can write whatever they want to, whether it's true or false.)

Murray **officially** confirmed the special last August. Here's what he said about it on his studio website athttp://joemurraystudio.com/blog/

Everything that i've put in brackets and quotation marks  [""]  is a direct quote from Joe Murray himself that he posted on his studio blog.

["What I can share is that the details are getting closely watched. We are painting the backgrounds traditionally rather than digitally."]

["There is actually pencils and paper getting used (which is a rarity these days). I’m enjoying working for Nickelodeon where I didn’t think I would."]

So, he's staying with the same cool traditional animation style, and not CGI, and i'm glad, too.

["The special is wrapped in secrecy, so I can’t give many details about it online. Only that we have recorded the dialog, and are deep into design, backgrounds and animatic. I’m liking it a lot."]

He also got approval from Nickelodeon executives, and they're not going to "water down" the level of humor. So it should still be *full tilt* funny. :D

["I started laughing about some of the things we could do with the “new” Modern Life, it became more appealing. After a meeting with Nick Execs that they promised not to water it down,( which they have not) I agreed to move forward."]  :) so he's got permission to be *FULL tilt* funny on the jokes!

["Basically, Rocko, Filburt and Heffer have to deal with Modern Life in 2016, 17, 18 and there are lots of twists and turns. I’m very happy with it. We are done with the storyboard ( which was split up with the 4 of us, myself included) and are now moving into production. I will keep this blog posted with developments and interesting quirks from the progression of production."]

So i'll keep checking Joe Murray's studio blog for updates on the new 1-hour Rocko special, guys.

As of January 2017, They've finished the storyboards, and the dialogue recording, and now they're working on the animation.

Murray also said he wants to try some new things with this 1-hour special, and that he didn't want a simple re-hashing of the old show:

["Of course I did have feelings like it could flop. But I told Nickelodeon I definitely did NOT want to do a simple re-hashing of the old show, that this would need to break some new ground, which it does. Even though we have some call backs, it is mostly new material going in some new fresh directions. I hope the fans feel like we did it justice."]

I'll give this special a chance, guys. Rocko was my **favorite** nickelodeon cartoon as a kid. It was on from 1993 to 1996 (when I was 4 to 7 years old.)

Again, don't use wikipedia or any of those "wiki" sites as information sources for this Rocko special, because they are not reliable. Anyone can write anything, true or false on Wikipedia.

My information was taken from Joe Murray's official studio blog. It's official news. It'll be done in traditional animation style, and *none* of the jokes and humor are going to be "watered down". He's gotten permission from the Nickelodeon executives to still be as funny as he wants to be with this.

I'll keep you updated if I hear anything new about the special. I'm *very* excited. :D

He even included a deleted scene from the storyboard that he just posted last month:http://joemurraystudio.com/wp-content/uplo...-thumbnails.gif

Update as of January 2017:

"The production crew are currently deep into design, backgrounds and animatic stages of the film. Joe also mentions that he'll be visiting Korea in January 2017 for the next stages of the movie."

I read that on this blog page:http://nickalive.blogspot.com/2016/12/dial...rn-life-tv.html

We're still months away, but it's going to be worth the wait.

Remember that for the movie, Joe Murray has stayed with the same traditional animation style, with the same hand-painted traditional backgrounds, guys. There are *no* digital backgrounds in the Rocko movie, so keep patient.

Ah good it's nice to see this in 2D animation instead of the CGI animation. And looking forward to seeing it.

ADFan185: I forgot to post this video I found of a Joe Murray radio interview from a few months ago on how the idea of bringing back Rocko's Modern Life all came to be. We should be lucky, because this *almost* didn't happen.

If you go to the 15:00 mark, that's the key part of the video where he talks about what he's working on currently. He was asked:

"What was your initial reaction to Nickelodeon calling you and saying "Hey, do you want to do a TV special/do you want to do some more Rocko?"

And Murray said that he got a phone call from a guy named Chris who asked him "Would you be interested in doing some more Rocko?" And it all started with that phone call.  I liked this interview.

(Well, ADFan185, it looks like only you and I are the only two people who are involved in this thread.)

Here's another Joe Murray interview with someone else. Here, he was able to give out one (safe) tiny, non-spoiler detail. He said that Mr. Bighead will still be working at Conglom-O, and the company's slogan "we own you" is now "we still own you", adjusted for time, of course.

I learned that in this 35 minute long interview video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvXXnSjOASE

Also, I can say that the release for the Rocko's Modern Life special will either be late this year, or early 2018. It's going to be a little bit later than they originally thought. Maybe because production is taking longer. I mean, I understand. They're staying with the same animation method of traditional animation on hand-painted backgrounds after all.

Rocko's voice actor, Carlos Alazraqui recently said that the jokes in the special *will* be more like  the far funnier and "dirtier" seasons 1 and 2 (the episodes that ran from September 1993, up to May 1995) and not the "cleaned up" seasons 3 and 4 (from September 1995 up to November 1996.)

Rocko's voice actor, Carlos Alazraqui posted this picture of himself on the floor next to a Rocko statue, and posted "Something big is coming!"  It's his first *TEASER* post on the special.

At the time of this post, he's had it up for 30 hours so far on his Twitter page , and already, over 700 people have liked it.

Here's a link to his post.  A lot of people replied with *lots* of excitement, too!
https://twitter.com/carlosalazraqui/status/...935671317929985

One person was so happy and excited, they posted: "My inner child and outer child are screaming!"

ADFan185: I read a news article today about it. It will be on in 2018, and it's titled:

"Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling"

*ALL 4* of the regular cast members have returned.

Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny, Charlie Adler, and yes, I can now officially say that Linda Wallem is back voicing Dr. Hutchison.

I can say that all 3 of the Bigheads will be in it. Ed, Bev, *and* Ralph. As well as Ed's boss, Mr. Dupette from Conglom-O.

Other minor characters that will appear (that I know of so far) are Really Really Big Man, Chuck and Leon the chameleon brothers,

and at least 2 1-shot characters from Season 3 will appear too,  Filburt's Aunt Gretchen from the Halloween episode "Sugar Frosted Frights", and Nosey the talk show host from the episode "Speaking Terms"

I just got this news today. What a huge treat it is to have all of the original cast returning for this movie:
http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-new-rockos-mode...-the-1796341642

So, the movie Snik talked about, Arnold's, which is titled "Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie" will be on first, this November 2017. Rocko's movie "Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling" will be on in 2018.

On July 20th, 2017, the first sneak preview of the special was posted on youtube.

It's gotten *great* comments so far, and it *definitely* looks awesome!

Again, the special is titled "Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling"

Actually looks pretty good so far. Animation looks good, the jokes/gags are good so far. The more crude animations, injuries, and stuff were good. Hopefully the whole thing ends up being good.

Looking forward to it, whenever t does come (Haven't really been following it, so don't know if we know when it's coming out yet or not.)

*Update*

Wow!  Merchandise is coming.  There will be Funko "Pop" vinyl figures of Rocko and Heffer coming in November.
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1829/3623...pg?v=1505969364

And *get this* a new comic book series is coming, too!  The first issue is going to be released in December. It looks like the first issue will have 2 different versioned covers, too. And one of them is a front-yard barbecue, with Alicia the mail delivery kangaroo (from the 1996 episode "sealed with a kiss")  standing near Rocko, who's by the grill, with all of the main O-Town characters in his yard.

(and this is the other variant of the cover of the first issue.)http://www.trbimg.com/img-59bbe93d/turbine...bole-snap-image

(this merchandise is being released *before* the special airs, too!)

This is Rocko's first comic book issue since his original comic book series ended with its last issue (issue #7) released in December 1994.

I can't believe this is happening. It's all so exciting. :)  Funko pop vinyl figures and a new comic book series being released, and before the special even airs, too.
