Oh, man--I thought I already posted here earlier, but I guess I didn't! (Thanks for the ping
@Gentle Sharptooth !)
So yeah, everybody can probably guess my opinion of these characters based on my username and profile pic alone, but here goes!
1. The Rainbow Faces' disappearance into the sky totally wowed me when I was little, especially
because it was so uncharacteristic of the franchise to go as far as saying, "Yeah, they're from outer space!" But they did it anyway, and it put a smile on the face of some little girl who loved the idea of mysterious alien visitors.
(I may have been a slightly weird kid.) Looking back, that tractor beam ending is one of the most memorable scenes I can think of from any cartoon I grew up with.
2. For a long time, I thought of the Rainbow Faces as being alien shapeshifters or possibly disguising themselves with technology. (As a kid, I remember thinking their true forms would probably look kind of like Crystal and Amber from that Scooby-Doo alien movie, haha!) But the funny thing is that after I got older and rediscovered LBT, I ended up changing my headcanon. Like
@Nanotyrannus , I kind of like to think of them as alien dinosaurs. Doesn't make much sense, but I think it would just be more fun if those were their true forms after all, and there was a whole planet of technologically advanced dinosaurs out there in the LBT universe. And as much as I still love the alien twist, I think it would fit with the tone of LBT a lot better if these aliens actually looked like dinosaurs.
Alternatively, maybe the Rainbow Faces could be dinosaurs from an alternate version of Earth in a parallel universe, and they're traveling across dimensions to explore the alternate versions of their world. This actually wouldn't be a bad explanation for the "they really are dinosaurs" headcanon. Admittedly, though, there are a lot of signs pointing to them being from another planet. If they are dimension-hoppers or (as some have suggested) time travelers, it doesn't make much sense that they spend so much time talking about outer space.
Putting questions about the Rainbow Faces' true identities aside, I just love these two as characters. Their personalities are great foils to each other.
