Title: Prehistoric Cats
Post by: JBJB1029 on January 19, 2011, 01:48:45 AM
Were there any Prehistoric Cats around during the time of the Dinosaurs, like for example the Saber-toothed cat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber-toothed_cat):

Nope! They appeared millions of years after the dinosaurs, I'm certain.

I'm no where a paleontologist, but to my limited knowledge mammals around the time of the dinosaurs were fairly small, maybe shrew size, similar to Tickles from the 4th movie.  Or whatshisname from the episode Return to Hidden Rock.

This will answer your question. (http://www.google.com/)
Seriously, there is no need to ask these random and pointless questions on this board when a simple internet search will answer them for you.

The only mammals around at the time of the dinosaurs were quite small, all or mostly rodents too I believe. Big cats evolved millions of years after the dinosaurs were wiped out.

No!  As other people have posted out the only mammals that were around during the dinosaur times were small mammals that eventually after the mass extinction that wiped out a large percentage of life on earth (ie:dinosaurs for example), were able to evolve into larger and more powerful animals that we know of today. I suggest that it might be preferable for you to type in google and wikipedia so you get some idea of how the world worked then.  LBT maybe inaccurate (after all it is a cartoon) with various dinosaurs living around at the same time but it's not that inaccurate...

The only mammals that existed were a species of squirrel that looks like Scrat from Ice Age, and some rat-like creatures, and that was about it.

No species of sabre-teeth existed until about 2.5 million BC to 10,000 BC.

EDIT:

Have fun:

Not really. Scrat's species never existed. I had heard (I forget where though) that the directors made up Scrat's species.

Oh nevermind. I misread your post.

^It was a mammal that existed during the createous (according a book I have anyway, it was seen being watched by two t-rex) called Leptictidium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptictidium).

Although it didn't look like this in the book, it looked like a sabre-tooth squirrel. :wacko

Although you are right about sabre-tooth squirrels, the directors just made them up.

A simple no would work. Prehistoric cats were not around in the time of the dinosaurs.
