Gamers Zone / Danganronpa

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danganronpa_2:_Goodbye_Despair

This is a series I got into the past year, a visual novel franchise based around students at a school named Hope's Peak Academy being trapped in a location (the academy itself in 1, a series of tropical resort islands in 2) and forced by an evil living teddy bear named Monokuma to commit a murder if they want to escape.

However, instead of simply one person simply massacring everyone else, any given culprit can only kill up to two people, and after each death there's an investigation and then a class trial where you have to determine the culprit. There's some elements of Ace Attorney here, but the series does have it's own unique elements.

All in all, this series turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me, filled with challenging mysteries, memorable characters, and big twists (Honestly, knowing which students survive, which die, and which end up being culprits is probably among the smaller spoilers you can give about the plot).

Role Play Discussion / The Biter Islands rp
« on: February 13, 2014, 12:43:30 PM »
Here's the discussion thread for those who want to join.

Also, here's the general plotline GVG and I had thought of, for reference:

Longtail is chased out of the Great Valley after being framed for (or actually being guilty of, your choice lol) killing one of the leafeaters. Out in the Mysterious Beyond, he meets up with Dil's family. There are just some of many sharpteeth headed to the "Biter Islands"

Basically, Chomper's island is one of 5 islands that bigger dinosaurs can walk between because of a shallow reef, and there's plenty of prey on all 5, so certain sharpteeth who are in the know are moving to this carnivore's paradise, Dil, Ichy, Redclaw, Screech, and Thud included.

Deciding to join the belly dragger/sharpbeak family, Longtail must get used to life on the Biter Islands, while trying to find out the identity of the dino who framed him....

Role Play Discussion / a Monstro rp
« on: January 01, 2014, 05:38:22 PM »
Somewhat inspired by the current location in the Toonworld Rp, here's an idea I thought of recently:

A series of unstoppable natural disasters is not too far off from happening. The end of the world is nearing as all the land is about to be washed away. Only one chance remains for life to go on: The great and giant whale Monstro, said to be who knows how many years old.

The giant whale, having swallowed several cruise ships, will allow for several hundreds if not a few thousand people of all species and sizes to live inside it, with some powers it has developed can prevent people from being hurt of digested by the innards.

Once inside Monstro, life goes on, and there will no doubt be people who want to take charge of the new world.

Anyone interested?

You can be your OCs and can control characters from already existing series, and there's no restrictions on species.

Role Play Discussion / Rp idea: Planet of the Tigers
« on: October 20, 2013, 02:55:45 AM »
Inspired by a post someone made in a Shere Khan based caption in the caption section, and the fact that tigers are my favorite animals, I thought of an rp idea that, like IC and Toonworld, can have both canon characters and OCs:

A group of creatures exploring the universe have their journey abruptly cut short when their ship begins to malfunction and they are forced to land on a nearby planet. On this planet, tigers are the dominant species. Prey creatures are around primarily for food, and non-tiger predatory species are lower class citizens but they can work their way up into higher classes.

The tiger planet would be mostly modern in terms of technology, with a bit of sci-fi to fit the space travel concept.

Now, the group must avoid being devoured by the tigers if they are prey creatures, earn their respect, find a way to repair their ship, or if worst comes to worst, find a way to take up home on the tiger planet.

If you have character ideas, feel free to post descriptions here. (And everyone can be one of the crashed group, or one of the tigers or other residents of the planet)

Silver Screen / My top 5 films of the Summer
« on: August 26, 2013, 09:55:24 PM »
Just wanted to do this because this Summer I went to more movies then I did with other Summers:

5. Despicable Me 2:

If you liked the first DM movie back in 2010, you may love this sequel even more. Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig had great chemistry, and the jokes, while they come at a practically non-stop pace, always managed to make me at least crack a smile. My only issue is that they try to make it seem like who the villain is is a mystery, but the answer is immediately obvious.

4. Pacific Rim:

As a person who's not a giant monster movie fan, this movie really impressed me. Del Toro has a great visual style and a clear love of the genre without directly ripping something off. The mood and rules of the world are clearly defined, and the woman who played Mako Mori did a great job. My only major criticism is that the final fight at the titular pacific rim is rather anti-climactic compared to fights that occurred earlier in the movie.

3. The Wolverine:

This one shocked me by how much I ended up liking it. For the first time in the X-Men film franchise, Wolverine really gets a character arc and you can relate to him. Hugh Jackman is a solid leading actor for this, and the Japan setting provided for some good fight scenes. You can see the twist coming if you pay attention to the dialogue, but IMO this was a fine film.

2. The World's End:

If you liked Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, then be sure to see this film. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work great off each other once again, and it was neat to see Pegg being the manchild between the two for once. If you're familiar with SOTD, you will be able to pick up on how everything is foreshadowed, but it's a fun ride through and through. And for a film where this was not the advertised/intended genre, the action scenes are perhaps the best out of any movie I've seen this Summer.

Before I get to my number one favorite film of this Summer, I'll say in advance it was my most anticipated movie of the Summer. Now, when you asked moviegoers earlier what their most anticipated films of the Summer were (regardless of what they ended up thinking of them), the most common answers were probably Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, and Pacific Rim. My fav film of the Summer was one of a genre I'm a fan of, so it may not be what you're expecting.

1. Now You See Me:

The cast to this movie was probably the best cast I've seen this year, with Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson as the standouts. While some were obvious CGI shots, a lot of the magic tricks were clever to watch. The mystery was intriguing to watch and kept me guessing until the end what exactly was going on. And I will agree with the most common criticism: that the twist at the end really asks you to buy a lot, but I feel if you enjoyed the rest of the movie like i did, you'll just roll with the twist. My only issue is that the 4 magicians don't have as big a role as you might assume from the trailers, but that could be rectified in the sequel that is being made. All in all, a really great movie IMO that I recommend checking out on DVD when it comes out on DVD next week if you missed it in theaters.

Honorable mentions: Monster's University, Iron Man 3

The Fridge / Well played, Adult Swim.
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:32:33 PM »
Adult Swim routinely plays April Fool's Day jokes on the viewers, however, what they did last night filled many a child of the 90s with fond memories.

For just one night, they brought back Toonami.

It was great seeing all the old anime back, even for one night (Though I mainly just watched the Dragonball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho showings). And TOM, voiced by Steve Blum again, was back with all new material.

So, well played Adult Swim, well played  :)

Gamers Zone / The Tony Hawk series
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:56:05 PM »
Besides kart racing, the Tony Hawk series was part of my gaming childhood, and I have many fond memories of the series.

My personal fav is Pro Skater 4, which I still consider to be one of the greatest games of all time.

I've never played Proving Ground, and though I also love THUG 2, I'll admit I've yet to play (though I want to) the original Underground.

Even though I don't have a 3DS, this is the first game for that handheld that's really catching my interest, it could potentially be the best MK of the series.

Points of interest for me:

I wonder why now, of all time, they put the sequel's number in the title as opposed to the console name. (Maybe they thought 3DS was too close to DS)

Seems the Wii Sports Resort Island course will be a one-lap only race, maybe it's the longest track in the series? (I have no doubt it'll be in the Special Cup of the game.)

The retro track selections look pretty good so far:

N64: Kalamari Desert
DS: Luigi's Mansion, Waluigi Pinball, DK Pass, Airship Fortress
Wii: Maple Treeway

Silver Screen / Genres and tv/movies.
« on: September 12, 2011, 08:42:41 PM »
Do you think there any genres of work (comedies, horror, action, adventure, drama, etc....) that you feel either work better when they're tv shows or when they're movies?

For me, personally, the genre of mystery works better in tv shows. Maybe call it shallow, but I like the episodic nature of mystery shows and I'd rather have a new whodunnit/howdunnit every week as opposed to just one mystery.

Though, I won't deny that my favorite horror movie series, Scream, is all whodunnits, but they don't really have big deductions, just reveals.

What about you guys?

Role Play Discussion / Toon world spinoff: The Wildcat Cafe
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:26:54 PM »
A brief video of the setting.

In an idea I thought of for a spinoff of nick's toonworld rp,  this would focus on the Wildcat Cafe, a restaurant built in the mountains that has a rather....unusual main ingredient in every dish  :DD

Besides Wildcat himself, chars can in this can be from anything, and they can be either employees, customers, or future dishes.... :lol

For plot lines, we can focus on the employee's various jobs, their friendships, Wildcat's crazy antics, and perhaps dealing with a rival restaurant that wants to bring them out of business.

In other words, the story can go in any direction!

Computer and Electronics / A question about posting links
« on: July 17, 2011, 09:42:18 PM »
One thing I've admittedly have yet to figure out is when one posts a link, for example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EC2tmFVNNE (The trailer for the last HP movie that came out), I could only post the link by copying/pasting from the taskbar.

But I've noticed how one can post a link without posting the specific website address,

for example, I want to know, using the random link I decided on, how could I post the link as, let's say, "Harry Potter trailer" without the http and all that stuff?

Silver Screen / Deathly Hallows Part 2
« on: July 15, 2011, 01:19:33 PM »
Saw the 3d midnight screening last night, and I LOVED it! The film was a very fond farewell to the Harry Potter franchise. The action scenes were very intense, the emotional parts were very well acted, and the occasional moments of humor got laughs out of my crowd.

This was by far the most crowded a theater I ever been in has been, and for good reason. The film was phenomenal, and at the end, we were all applauding.

Role Play Discussion / Madagascar rp?
« on: July 08, 2011, 02:30:04 PM »
I thought of making an rp based off the Madagascar movies, so now I'm seeing if anyone's interested:

Basically, the story would be set after Madagascar 2, with the original group (plus any chars or OCs they met on their journey) trying to make it back to NYC.

Characters:

Alex-
Marty-
Gloria-
Melman-
King Julien-
Maurice-
Mort-
Moto Moto-
Skipper-
Kowalski-
Private-
Rico-

OCs are encouraged, anyone interested?

Having gotten into the PSP recently, I think the Vita looks rather interesting. Based on the page for games announced for the console (and the games after all are what's important), I'm rather looking forward to:

Wipeout 2048, Modnation Racers (If it's an different version than the current PSP one), and the next Ridge Racer.

Anyone else excited?

Silver Screen / El Arca

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlOaKmZV2Ck (A link to the movie on youtube. There's another upload available, but the audio is way off on the other version).

I found this movie a while ago on youtube, and I kinda liked it. It was rather funny, and I liked the animal characters.

Although, I probably should tell you guys that although there's no official rating given the movie is definitely PG-13 in content. (The movie's appeal to the furry fandom should become quickly apparent...)

Also, despite being based on a religious story, the movie definitely doesn't have a religious agenda, if that might've been a potential detraction point.

What do you guys think of it?
