The Fridge / Countdown to 20 Years Online
« on: December 08, 2022, 06:44:04 PM »
It might crawl across the finish line, but it would be a magical moment if the Gang of Five forum can make it online for 20 years.   I started this back when I was 18 and putting websites and stuff online.  Life has changed for me since then and I'm doing other things, but I still remember this place!

Today is December 8, 2022.  The official GOF founding date is October 12, 2003.

308 days to go after today!!  :petrieooohh

The Fridge / Happy 15th Anniversary - GOF Forum!
« on: October 12, 2018, 06:18:32 AM »

15 years.  Wow!  A picture says 1,000 words.  The picture above is truly my own reaction to the reality that the Gang of Five forum has been online for 15 years now.  Granted we’ve had our shares of road hazards, and have had to move the forum on four different hosting platforms (hence why the founding date does not say October 12, 2003), but we’ve come through it all!  At this stage, we are in the most stable situation we possibly could find ourselves in as the GOF pays for its own hosting and domain name, no longer at the whim of any free web host, plus we are ad-free too!

I won’t make a big speech like I did for year 10.  My role is quite different now, consulting for the forum, and basically running the GOF Discord Server.  To keep things about the forum, its memories, its good times, and even its bad times, I would like everyone—no matter how long you’ve been here—15 years or 15 days—to share a memory of this place!

Thank you all! :D :D :D  :cheers

Announcements / Make sure you get your stuff off of the old forum!
« on: July 15, 2018, 09:14:30 AM »
Just an update to all members:

If you haven't done so already, go and grab those PMs, pictures or whatever you wanted to save from the old forum on zetaboards while you still can.  Betas are coming out of the tapatalk forums (Fiver's Honeycomb is already in beta) and if something goes massively wrong with the transfer you may lose important stuff you one day wish you hadn't lost.  I have no idea when the GOF will be transferred except that it will be VERY soon if the emails are any indication.

This is probably your last call as I can't guarantee what will / will not happen once that transfer is made and you can't get to zetaboards anymore.

Don't remember who I was talking to, but I was sharing that I run an official Ranger Rick archive, and this is one of my favorite pictures.  The person said it would be perfect caption fodder, and I agreed.

So here it is:

Announcements / Zetaboards Conversion Complete - and some new things!
« on: November 10, 2017, 03:44:52 PM »
Welcome to the new, improved Gang of Five forum!  :cheers  :cheers  :cheers

 :wow  :wow  :wow

You will find that some things are slightly different with your profiles.  Take a moment to look around and figure out all the features.

Furthermore, to keep the GOF an active, friendly place for LBT fans, we've made some changes at the top, quite literally.

Your current admin staff have red usernames.  They are rhombus, Nick22, and zero-point.  zero-point joins the staff as lead forum designer and manager of code as zetaboards requires a different code set than the older invision power boards.

Inactive administrators still have admin powers, but should not be contacted for immediate issues with the board.  They are part of the Circle of administrators, have a light blue color, and admin badge.  They should continue to be respected as honored leaders of the GOF whenever they come online to post.  These members are Malte279, Littlefoot1616, and Mumbling.

Currently, two moderators are still part of the GOF, and have powers to moderate all sections of the board.  These members are Kor and the Great Valley Guardian.

I remain a consultant to rhombus and Nick as necessary, but am not part of the active administrative team, thus I do not have a red badge.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for forums, everything appears to have transferred smoothly.  Still, some changes have been made.
The Rock Circle has been renamed "Forum Issues" and is now simply a section to discuss current happenings on the board, or to pose a question to the staff about the GOF.  The voting process that used to be part of the Rock Circle section as part of the decision making process has been disbanded permanently.  This will no longer be happening.  Administration will continue to work together to make decisions, but it will be no more complicated than that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I thank you all for your patience and thoughts, as we were given no choice on the matter of upgrading our board system, and chose the option we felt would give us the smoothest transition possible.  In time, I believe you will find that zetaboards will work just as well as our old invision system, and the upgraded changes should keep spambots out.

Be well.  :DD

1988 Theatrical Release / A Blu-ray is likely on its way....
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:02:57 PM »
No, I wish I could say it was official, but its very likely that a blu-ray of LBT will be available before very long.  With An American Tail getting its blu-ray release on March 4, 2014, LBT remains one of the only ones left from Don Bluth not on blu-ray when Don was doing good business.

Given what I've seen with NIMH, it probably will not be sparkling clear and crisp as if the film was made yesterday, but that's ok.  Its a dark film anyway, so it shouldn't be all bright and cheery like Disney has done to its older stuff.  Probably will be widescreen as well.  I know the OAR is 1:33 but widescreen would be how it appeared in a theater, so picture loss shouldn't be a major issue.  I wouldn't hold out hope for a commentary; Bluth (as I put in the sticky topic in this section) was not very happy with the production of this film, so I can't see him wanting to revisit it.

I hope for a decent release, given that the previous DVD releases have been.....  :slap  :exactly

What do you all think?

The Fridge / Good morning Gang.
« on: April 29, 2013, 06:55:02 AM »
No this is no belated April Fools Joke, yes you do see the account name correctly. :p  Yes, I did poke my nose back in here to just check things out again. :)  Just a reminder, should the board keep going until October 12, 2013 it will have been online for 10 years!  That would be cool if it makes it.

Anyway, I see there are changes and it seems to be working just fine for you guys.  I think I saw a thread that asked where I went.  I'm still around, I just don't post on forums like I used to.  Cutting back and just doing other things is what I needed to do with my life.  I wouldn't worry too much, you're in good hands here.  :exactly

Ciao!

The Fridge / Happy (Belated) Birthday GOF
« on: October 20, 2012, 07:08:39 AM »
It would probably get missed in the birthday section, so I felt like posting this out here.  I almost jumped the gun during the summer thinking the GOF had actually been around for 10 years, but then checked the math again and realized it hadn't been.  :lol:

On October 12, 2012, the GOF forum turned 9 years old, having been officially created in 2003 with a far different purpose in mind.  Its been at this location on invisonfree since 2004.

 :birthday  :birthday  :birthday  :birthday

If it can manage one more year, that would be awesome.  :wow

Share a favorite GOF memory as we look back on 9 years.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd like to remember the original team that decided to jump ship with me from ezboard to invisionfree in 2004 when we decided to go all out and create a better Land Before Time forum for fans.  Those that came with me--Malte, Nick and Jason (Littlefoot1616).  It may have seemed crazy at the time, because we basically went and started from scratch all over again, but that hacker at ezboard put an end to my willingness to stay there.  Hard to believe we're all still around in some way after nine years.  :DD
Members,
Please bear with me as I work on switching major images on the GOF to a new photobucket account.  Some things may disappear momentarily while I work things out.  Thanks for understanding.  I will let you know when I am done.
The Fridge / There went a page out of our history here
« on: June 01, 2005, 08:56:41 PM »
Not many of you will likely know this save Malte and Littlefoot1616 since we were in this together, but we weren't always here.  The Gang of Five was originally at http://p072.ezboard.com/bgangoffive and their whole network of boards was attacked (that's what they said) recently.
Our entire archive (I guess you can say history) outside of this board has been wiped out.  :cry2  I don't think anyone here ever visited it to see the old topics (I did try to bring some over to spark new interest) but it's another LBT board that has truly bit the dust now.
Silver Screen / Are you toony?
« on: May 19, 2005, 05:22:27 PM »
Most of you probably have seen my MSN name that says "Arvens is toony" and probably wondering what the hell I mean. :P:  Simply put it, I'm sure we've all grown up with cartoon characters and have favorites.  List 'em.
In no particular order, I watched all of these shows in the late 80s/early 90s.  I'd say by 7th grade I didn't watch them as much (1997 onward) and have recently turned back to them and found out just how much I enjoy them. :)
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Darkwing Duck
Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies
Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
Tiny Toon Adventures
Care Bears
Inspector Gadget
Captain Planet
Smurfs
Scooby Doo, Where Are You
Jabberjaw
Doug
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Banana Splits Show
Flinstones
The Jetsons
I'm sure I'm missing some I've overlooked off the top of my head.
Silver Screen / Best song to come out of an animated film
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:29:41 PM »
Some of the best songs I've heard in a long time have come from animated films that I've either rediscovered, watched again, or saw for the first time.  Name one that really impressed you.
The one I have in mind does not come from Disney.  It does not come from Bluth.  It does not come from the Speilberg/Katzenberg stable either.  The one I have in mind came from a tiny independent, long out of business: FAI Films.  They only made one animated film way back in 1992 and that was called Ferngully.  To my knowledge, this didn't get a big release at all, and it's known to those who know it exists.  This included Robin Williams before he became known as Aladdin's genie but that's another story....
The song is "A Dream Worth Keeping" performed by Sheena Easton and I'm sure if you guys heard this song, you'd agree it is one of the most sentimental, touching, and true songs to have ever been made for an animated film.
Even though the winds of change may come sweeping,
It's still a dream worth keeping,
Don't let it fade away....
Children are more likely at risk if they've been arrested for an illegal activity.
I wonder if you can be arrested for a legal activity as well.  :lol:
