Silver Screen / Why I like ALL the Star Wars franchise
« on: May 14, 2017, 01:29:24 AM »
Very good point you've made here. I've seen all the Star Wars films too and while I agree that the prequels may not exactly hold up compared to the original trilogy, they still have their merits. I think Revenge of the Sith is the best prequel, as do many others.                                 While I hold the original trilogy in very high regard, I greatly enjoyed The Force Awakens and I believe the sequel trilogy will hold up well to the original trilogy.

And as for anyone trying to spite you for liking all the Star Wars films, don't pay any attention to them. They may be vocal, but they are unwilling to consider how others feel about SW films other than the original trilogy. The prequels may not hold a candle to the originals to them, but that is a matter of taste and judgement. Go on and enjoy what you deem worthy to watch. Judging a work that is not the original to be good is a positive attitude towards entertainment.

Silver Screen / Should the JEDI END?
« on: May 08, 2017, 12:48:26 PM »
Well if anyone thinks Rey learned too fast and became too good, The Last Jedi hopefully will show more of her abilities developing. And we could learn just why Rey seemed so skilled in Episode 7 when Episode 8 is released. She may just learn the Force differently, but won't probably be as powerful as Luke.
See, I believe someone attuned to the Force like Rey, but not quite as powerful as figures like Luke or Darth Vader, can learn quicker and if they are emotionally stable and confident, they can draw the Force better. It is easy to see that Kylo took longer to develop in his Force abilities than Rey because he is emotionally unstable.

Silver Screen / Should the JEDI END?
« on: May 08, 2017, 11:15:01 AM »
Well, Rey may come across as a Mary Sue at times, but we must remember that she didn't display any strong Force-related abilities in the beginning, and she couldn't immediately defend herself against Kylo Ren when he kidnapped her and it took a considerable time for Rey to resist his attempt to get the map to Luke from her mind.

Sure, she is strong with the Force, but she had to learn the basics of it, even for someone as Force-sensitive as her. And the events in the film she experienced led to her Force abilities "awaken" (yes, possible connection to the title) such as the battle scenes and the visions she got when she touched Luke's old lightsaber.
All those events helped her learn at the end to defeat Kylo Ren, though keep in mind that Kylo brought her down at first and Finn had to fight Kylo himself before she recovered enough to fight Kylo.
So in short, if you consider Rey's experiences before her actual Force-ability dispays, she really isn't a Mary Sue, but a decent portrayal of a heroine whose abilities gradually develop over the course of the film, and more so in the next film.

The Written Word / First Poem- Rock of my Eye
« on: May 02, 2017, 11:52:55 AM »
This is a little poem I made which I use rocks as a metaphor for
someone one loves. I am single, but this idea popped in my head and I had to write it.

To my loving and honest girl
Many say about the apple of one’s eye,
Where I say, you are the rock of my eye.
I have long admired the beauty of rocks
But I know you possess a quality,
A quality beyond the value of rocks
You are like the moss,
The moss that gathers on a stone,
A good helper, a true ally,
The one whom I love,
The one whom I share my life with,
And once we enter marriage,
We will be like two melted rocks,
Two rocks that turn into lava,
And join together in love.

General Land Before Time / Why Ali wasn't in LBT 10
« on: May 01, 2017, 01:58:50 AM »
As fans may typically know, especially Ali fans, the much-loved character Ali for some reason did not appear in the 10th LBT, The Great Longneck Migration.                                                 This is quite a disappointment, as Ali should have appeared since the film was about a longneck migration. I have a theory as the reason why she did not appear is probably because the producers may have felt Ali wasn't neccessary for the film, and wanted to focus on the characters of Bron and Shorty instead, perhaps thinking Ali would have gotten in the way. Though it would have been pleasing to the fans if they could just leave out Shorty and have Ali brought in, which would make more sense.

Anyone have their ideas on why Ali didn't appear in LBT 10, canon-wise?

Character Discussion / Ali
« on: May 01, 2017, 01:53:18 AM »
I do see Ali and Littlefoot's relationship as cute, though I am indifferent to the idea of shipping them. It is likely she was meant to be some sort of love interest, given how she's essentially a female version of Littlefoot.
So while I don't ship them, I am open to the possibility that they could become a couple as they grow up, or remain just friends. I'm also open to the idea that they could simply remain single. Also, it was a bummer that Ali did not appear in the 10th film, since the film was about a longneck migration, so it's a wonder as to why she didn't appear.

Well, for the whole soundtrack, it would have to be "Whispering Winds" and "The Great Migration". The soundtrack for the film is just a masterpiece of classic composement and is majestic-sounding.
"The Great Migration" is the perfect introduction to a land in prehistory, and starts off as giving us a sense of wonder, then turns to awe as we hear the incredible score from James Horner.         And "Whispering Winds" has a lovely chorus that gives one feelings of bittersweetness and yet also hope for our protagonists. The use of French horns adds to the majesty of this soundtrack.

Yes, since the turn of the 2010s, there has been a lot of great animated films, and Disney has come full circle in another renaissance known as the "Disney Revival".
I do acknowledge that there were great animated films in the early 2000s such as Shrek, Spirited Away, Monsters Inc, and Finding Nemo, and I knew LBT well in that time.

Bonus fact: You once mentioned in an earlier reply that a great deal of CGI-animated films were overly comedic, and there's an explanation for that- one large factor is because of CGI films in the early 2000s such as Shrek relied on pop culture jokes and parental bonus humor, and so was a driving part for this. Shrek was a very influential film when it came out in 2001. But the genre that Shrek and other CGI films used became stale in a few years, and so there's been more traditional and sophisticated films such as Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon, and of course, Frozen.

I have one more question on your ideas about animation:
Which years in the 2000s do you feel was the worst time for animation?

I know that Disney wasn't doing too good for most of the 2000s (with the exception of "Lilo and Stitch" (2002)), but while other studios like DreamWorks and Pixar were thriving, I feel there was a 'dork age' for animation in general from about 2005-2007.
2006 was the worst year for animated films for me. Plus, at that time a lot of terrible animated TV shows were made which I strongly disliked to the core.

Actually since Littlefoot and co. are kids, if there was a remake for the first LBT, they would have to hire child actors to voice them, not adult actors. Plus, I feel there should be voice actors, not celebrities, to voice characters like Sharptooth, since the practice of hiring celebrities to voice animated characters, for me, is getting old.

Silver Screen / The Promise (2017)
« on: April 28, 2017, 01:14:31 AM »
I do not blame the media primarily for this, but I know there is not enough coverage of Christians being killed in Syria and other parts of the Middle East by ISIS and other extremist groups. Sure there are video footage of the extremists holding Christians as prisoners or brutally killing them, circulated around, but there is a great deal of those unaware of how bad the situation is for Christians living in the Middle East. Thankfully, the news of members of ISIS and Boko Haram being arrested in increasing numbers is spelling out hope, and I have faith that the United Nations will be capable of tackling the situation and sort out the outrageous violations of human rights.

I will continue to pray for those persecuted in that part of the world, and pray that the terrorists have a change of heart and stop their brutal and hateful activities.

Well, finally, they are covering a horrific genocide that was against another ethnicity, as well as Christians, after decades of focusing solely on the Holocaust against Jews (not to mention there were numbers of Christians and Catholic priests killed in the Holocaust as well).                     Since I see you're a Christian, well good for you. I am a Christian too, specifically a Roman Catholic. I think I'll check out the film too.

Silver Screen / MLP- a childfree episode?
« on: April 23, 2017, 09:46:15 PM »
I posted this idea on the official MLP: Friendship is Magic thread, but I decided to then start this topic that's been floating in my head for a while.
My idea is that the staff for MLP should make an episode about a recently married stallion and mare who have chosen not to have foals. Someone, most likely Pinkie Pie, would ask them when they will have foals, and they say that they do not want to have foals, and give their reasons why. Pinkie would have trouble understanding why, but learns the episode's lesson that it is perfectly okay to choose not to have your own children (or foals in this case), and that not every couple are meant to be parents. Since the show is known for often deep life lessons, I think it would be a great idea to show viewers the topic of choosing not to procreate.
Anyone else like this idea?

I haven't seen the new Jungle Book but the idea of the upcoming live-action Lion King spooks me. While I think it could go better with dinosaurs than lions, I don't see this overall prospect too exciting.
I absolutely agree with you, Sovereign, the Lion King happens to be my favorite Disney movie, and I wasn't exactly excited about a live-action remake in the works. I mean, there's already a Broadway musical adaptation, so why make a remake?
It's simple why, the pressure to make more money and the fear of failure has been driving Disney to make more live-action remakes (most of which are inferior to the original) of the beloved originals. The Jungle Book remake turned out to be okay, but something as beloved and well-made as the Lion King should never receive a remake.

Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread
« on: April 22, 2017, 09:20:37 AM »
Okay, I'll make this as interesting as I can, as I'd like some responses:
Putting aside the reception to the first episodes for season 7, I feel there should be an episode
centered on one topic: the choice for married couples to not have children, or the case
of MLP, foals. Specifically, the episode could feature a newly-married mare and stallion who have chosen not to have foals, and they give their honest reasons why. My idea is that Pinkie Pie is the one who asks the couple in question when they are going to have foals, and they tell Pinkie that they do not want foals, that they do not desire to be parents. At first, Pinkie has trouble understanding this, but learns that there are good reasons for not having kids as there are for having them.
So, yeah, I feel there should be an episode about the childfree choice.
