I recently trying to get myself into drawing. I first started to draw Cera without any reference, and it looked like... a 1 year old child drawing. Then i tryed with reference, but with a pen it's hard to erase the mistakes.

This morning, while searching my webcam, i found an archaic wood pencil in the deep of my desk and i have retry. I still used a screenshot from the 9th movie as a reference, and i worked on it during almost 2 hours.

And i dont know why imageshack set the picture like this when i upload it, because i took the picture in the correct way !

EDIT: ha, got it !

But well, just... turn your head until i find how to fix this :/

When my fingers will do not hurt anymore ( <_< ) i will probably made other drawings, still with references until i learn every body line and proportion perfectly. If someday i can draw Cera without help, i will reach my final objective: draw my fan-character ( he's a Treehorn too, that why i choosed Cera for training).

And if drawing with references do not bother you, i will post them here.

Whoa! That's pretty good! The snout is kind of short, and her left front foot looks a little deformed, but otherwise, it's very accurate!

I'm the same way: I use references to draw, and take AGES to finish the picture.

Any particular reason you shaded her horn, toenails, underside, and other lighter-colored parts?

That's pretty good Vek! Try creating an account on Deviantart and upload it over there :D And hey, even I use references. That's really not an issue :) Tracing is a different story :p

That looks amazing Vek! keep it up, maybe someday Universal will want to hire ya. :p

I agree with the previous posters. The picture is really very well done and I'm looking forward to see more from your hand and pencil :yes
Like Pangea already asked, is there a special reason you shaded mostly the parts of Cera which are usually a bit lighter?

Perhaps hes trying to adapt his work so that when he IS ready to draw his charactor he can incorprate the dark shadded areas to the charactor.
I used to do that alot with my sketchs.

that or he did it for fun. :p

Amazing Vek! Good Job! You should create an account at DeviantArt, tons of people will fave this picture. This is pretty good for a first try at Cera, when I first tried her with a reference, it took me five years to get her right. I wish I still had it, I'd probaly add it on devianart.

Very nice artwork.  I hope you continue to draw and share them here.  Some artists here may give you tips, not being an artist myself I can't, but there are plenty here who are and can.

I did not expect so many and so fast reviews for this  :!  Thank all !

For the shade... I first wanted to set it on all his body except on the tummy, horn, toes and the spot around the eyes for give some "color" to the picture. But i was afraid to do a mistake and be forced to restart all the drawing. So i did the opposite, and it was a mistake too... Next time i'll do like my first idea.

^ It's not that it looks bad; just a little unusual (It reminds me of some of the production drawings for the original LBT). We were just curious why you had decided to shade it that way.

Anyway, we're all eager to see more artwork from you. :)

Yup, i am on my second now, but i only did the head for now. I dont know why, but this one is alot more difficult to do than my first.

I need to re-work on the eyes, the mouth, the nose, the horn... and still the body to do.

EDIT:

Almost done, only need to re-work the back leg and re-re-work the eyes. Oh and now i look at it, the spine too.

Final version:

I did and re-did the eyes billions of times but they just dont want to be well done. I gave up before becoming crazy...

Awesome job on the expression! That sure is a "Cera look" :yes
One point of constructive criticism I have may not really be valid. I think I need to check it out because I believe I have seen different version of it. It being the legs of Cera respectively any of the other quadruped characters. They are usually thin below the knee to become thicker towards the foot. What I am not certain about is whether or not they get a little thinner again right above the foot as is the case in your drawing. Again, I think I may have seen both versions, so this may not really be a valid point of constructive criticism at all.

I think what makes this pic look good is the shading.

Sorry, I had planned to post feedback earlier, but it slipped my mind. :slap

I agree with Malte that the expression on your last Cera pic looks terrific, especially the eyes and eyebrows. There seems to be something a little off about her mouth, however. It’s probably that Cera has a sort of “jagged” mouthline: it slants upwards from the tip of her beak, slants down, and then goes up again. On your picture, her mouthline slants up, and then is relatively horizontal.

Personally, I think your new Cera picture shows improvement in every respect from the first (with the possible exception that she is slightly less detailed in the wrinkles and folds in her skin). One other area that I think you should focus on is the legs and feet. In my opinion, these are often the hardest parts of a dinosaur (LBT or otherwise) to draw well, so no worries if you have a hard time getting them right. Just for a few pointers, the LBT dinosaurs’ feet are rounded, so even if the toes are all the same length, they do not protrude from the front of the foot an equal distance. Think of the foot from underneath as a circle with the toes stuck on one side, each pointing at a slightly different angle. If viewed from more of a side angle, the inner toes would protrude slightly farther forward than the outer toes.

A couple of other things: the front of Cera’s hind leg should probably be overlapping her body from this angle. She’d have to be turned much further to her right (facing the viewer more) for the sides of her body to appear to be in front. And her front left leg (the one furthest to the right), while probably having the best drawn toes, looks considerably larger than any of her other limbs.

On to the Littlefoot picture…

You made that in five minutes? AMAZING. I probably wouldn’t be able to draw the head in five minutes. Seriously, it’s very good. I can’t even find anything significant to critique about it.

:oops I didn't know see that you added more pictures, I really like Cera's expression in the second one, it fits her personality perfectly. The one of Littlefoot is really good to, have you created a DeviantArt account? Land Before Time fans there will eat these up (not litterally). :lol

EDIT: The one of Littlefoot was done in 5 minutes? It took me like five hours to draw that scene once, and it wasn't as good as that one, good job Vek!

It's happened on Battlefield 2 five years ago too, all the name i wanted to take were already took... after some hours, i just typed something like lkdmvcbnkvkmjnuh and its finaly worked, and i played with this weird name for years.

I don't know yet if i will just add number after my name or take completely different name.

I will think about it and inform you guys when it will be created.

You can always try something else for deviantart (I had to do the same)
