No I'm not being discriminatory...that's what the test is called. ^^
http://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/yankeetest.html (http://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/yankeetest.html)
And my result: 39% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee. (well gee I hope so, I live in their state! :lol: )
Just some of my responses that certainly were isolated to the Northeast:
How do you pronounce the second syllable in pajamas?
* Rhymes with jam
How do you pronounce "route"?
* Rhymes with root
How do you address a group of people?
* You(se) guys
What's the tiny lobster that crawls around in creek bottoms?
* Crayfish
What do you call gym shoes?
* Sneakers
Where might you get water in a public building?
* Drinking fountain
What is that bubbly carbonated drink called?
* Soda
The rest of my responses were pretty much "common throughout US". The only one where I was labeled dixie was the "cot" "caught" one since I do pronounce those differently. ^^

My result:
30% Dixie. You are a Yankee Doodle Dandy.
:lol:
Not too much of a surprise with my Minnesota exchange and possible influences from British English. In a few cases I had to "guess" what I would call it having never seen anything like what was described in the text. Why would anyone throw toilet paper over a house?
I need to give the url to my American English professor (who is by birth a rebel (born in Virginia and in fact a descendant of R. E. Lee) can talk about every single American accent + British English + almost perfect German).
-
Haha why not? :P:
25% Dixie. You are a Yankee Doodle Dandy.
-
18% Dixie. Wow! You are a Duke of Yankeedom!
Yaaay! :lol: ...oohh wait is that a good thing? :lol Hehe
-
44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
When I first saw this site I thought it was about the New York Yankees the baseball team. I watch too much TV.
-
So did I :lol: hehe
-
38% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
was my score. Hey, I'm a Yankee from Illinois, what could ya'll have ben expectin'. :lol:
-
I got 71% Dixie! :P: Hey, I live in alabama! What do you expect? I think I use good grammar. My spelling just sucks! My mom came from Georgia and my dad from Virginia. I know some people who would have gotten 100% Dixie on the test.
(I went back and got 100% just to see what it said. 100% Dixie! Was General Lee your grndfather? :lol: :lol ) Hey, I ain't no redneck! (says it with a DEEP SOUTH accent.) :lol :lol It told me that my neck was probably slightly pink! :lol
-
I wonder how it is that people here can be more Yankee than me? :lol: :lol: New York is the place for them. :p
-
Speaking of being related to General Lee... *raises hand tentatively* ...I am actually related to him.
-
Are you? How closely are you related to him?
-
45% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
Hmm, interesting result. B)
-
To Malte:Distantly. My Great Mother was the daughter of a cousin (I don't know how far removed) of his.
To pokerplayer: That's still more Yankee than my mother (though a whole less than my father). They're visiting for the week, and on whim I had them take the test. She got a 48%. My dad got a 12%. :lol:
-
I just had to do this. :lol:
"53% Dixie. Barely in Dixie"
-
21% Dixie. You are a dandy Yankee Doodle.
Lawl?
-
50% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
This isn't really that accurate because some responses there was more than one answer I could have given, and at least two I didn't know at all so I had to guess.
-
I got 55% dixie, barely in dixie. I guess partly since I grew up in a large city, even though I've only lived in Texas, that and perhaps since I try to speak correct English.
-
This was my result: 39% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
Funny even though I'm from California I pronouce "aunt" like "want".
-
I believe the proper term would be Union or Confederate :rolleyes:
44% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
I guess Confederate :rolleyes: . But I still have my Union values; no slavery, for example. Of course, there's a lot of them.
-
Speaking of being related to General Lee... *raises hand tentatively* ...I am actually related to him.
My youngest brother would go nuts :lol: ! He's a Civil War buff (wanna know how far? He tried to read the Personal Memories of Ulusses S. Grant :rolleyes: ). But then, I am very distantly related to one of John Adam's siblings :P:
-
Hey Kacie, remember the language test we were looking for (without success) in the web a while ago? This is it.
-
33% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee. :p
-
I'm 49% Dixie-rarely in Yankeedom :p!
-
I'm 39% dixie.
-
43% Dixie.
Doesn't surprise me. After essentially living in VA for like three years, I have an unusual hybrid accent that mixes a Dixie accent with a NJ accent.
-
41% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
Funny, how most of my family come from the northern states (Indiana, Illinois, New York, etc)...
Cool test, still.
-
41% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
-
Well, well, well, without even trying I appear to have the lowest Dixie score of all to this point... though that's not surprising considering where I grew up and how my views have evolved over the years.
14% Dixie. Wow! You are a Duke of Yankeedom!
-
I got 18% Dixie. Not surprising, since as a foreigner I've been exposed only to Standard American English and Standard British English in class and when watching movies.
-
I achieved 12% Dixie.
-
I got 20% dixie, duke of yankeedom. On a side note, I am related to Ethan Allen, from the revolutionary era.
-
^ Really? You are? So is my ex-girlfriend, believe it or not, though that doesn't necessarily mean you two are close relatives to each other. :p
