General Land Before Time / Re: Most underrated sequels?

Confession time: when I feel down, I like to watch XIII just for a good laugh.  :PLoofah

General Land Before Time / Re: Encanto is the yassification of LBT
« on: February 28, 2022, 12:00:41 PM »
Not a worthy comparison. I have a lot of….opinions about Encanto and the overall state of Disney, but I’ll keep my mouth shut on the matter so I don’t get jumped by Disney fans. Even though LBT has cash grab sequels, at least more thought was put into them and we can (mostly) enjoy them without feeling like going mad. LBT also doesn’t try to be socially or politically correct, and I’m kinda glad they stopped before that crap started trending with animated movies. You’re comparing apples and oranges in this case.

Her commentary grates my ears tbh.  :sducky Yes, the snark is funny and reminds me of CinemaSins, but the tone just feels like nails on a chalkboard for me. I don’t agree with Jenny Nicholson’s ranking of certain sequels, but she did a much better job nitpicking.

Character Showcase / Re: Etta Showcase - February 2022

I won’t lie, Look for the Light is a bop. After XIII failed to deliver in well-balanced and meaningful funny characters, I definitely agree with you that Etta is a fun, silly grandma with a lot of wisdom once you get to know her. So I guess you can say she’s my favorite of the double digit sequels. Even if she’s an obvious Reba plug, Reba clearly had fun with this role.

Huh. Nobody’s said anything, so I guess I’ll chime in.

I think she’s an all right character. Neither my favorite nor disliked, neutral ground really. I think her personality tells me she comes from a quirky family (sister and cousin, anyone?), and she somehow survives on odd advice. But she has a good heart, too, as she wanted to see Littlefoot out of harm’s way, even when she learned that Bron was his father. The quirks make for an adorable character, and Journey of the Brave was at least a nice return to classic LBT form (in my opinion) so no complaints here.

General Land Before Time / Re: LBT YouTube Channel

Since the videos are made for YT Kids, I chalk it up to easy boredom buster for kids wanting something to watch for a few hours (the episodes) and giving them a reason to want to see the full movies after viewing some of the clips. As far as movie clips go, I think they give away a liiiiiittle too much to get kids to want to see them in full. And what will they do when they’re done with the movie clips? They’re on XIII, so probably another month or so left.

General Land Before Time / Re: LBT Best Songs on Spotify

some of the re-arranged and re-sang songs are just kinda weak compared to the film versions
So I was not the only one who noticed it. I didn't like The Legend of the Lone Dinosaur because it is sung in the voice of a 36 year old MILF. It would be better if it was sung in a child's voice.

The downloadable version on the iTunes store is thankfully the correct version from the movie. Not sure why Spotify changed it to some odd cover.

General Land Before Time / Re: Getting to know you - LBT Style

1.)  Most liked Land Before Time character - For the main cast, a tie between Littlefoot and Petrie. For sequel characters, Pterano.

2.)  Least liked Land Before Time character - probably Mr. Threehorn before Tria came along. Sierra is up there, too, even though it was cool to have a villain with intentions OTHER than just wanting a meal for the day.

3.)  Most liked Land Before Time song - For fun/upbeat, Very Important Creature as well as Friends for Dinner. For serious, Always There.

4.)  Least liked Land Before Time song - most of the ones from 11 and 13 (except Yellow Belly Bounce, it’s actually a good mood lifter!). And the TV series songs.

5.)  Most liked Land Before Time film - definitely the original, but in terms of sequels, I’d say 5, 7, and 12.

6.)  Least liked Land Before Time film - 11. Other than introducing Tria, I feel like they pulled the weirdest ideas out there in terms of consistent worldbuilding. And I know I’ll probably get flack for this, but 13 is a mood-lifting guilty pleasure when I need a good laugh. I’ve sat through enough bad kids movies nowadays that 13 isn’t the worst thing in existence.

7.)  Most memorable Land Before Time moment - For the original, the gang reaching the Valley and reuniting with their families. For the sequels, it’s kinda tough to pick ONE because my favorite sequels had a lot of great moments.

This made my day! I especially love hearing Pterano’s leitmotif so clearly now in the seventh movie score. I tried telling others about it, but they didn’t believe me  :lol  But I never thought we’d have clean scores straight from the man himself! I feel like a kid again just listening to these.

My only little gripes are the orchestral version of Always There from the end of 5 appears to be lost to history, and the seventh movie track title “Rocks Fall/Pterano Saves” is slightly misleading, as it’s only the part where Cera saves Petrie from the falling elevator rock they used to get to the top of the mountain. It seems the score that played during the rescue is lost to history. But I’ll take what’s given. People sleep on how good these scores are, especially for sequels.

The Welcome Center / Longtime lurker, now finally a member

Whew! Hello! I’ve a longtime LBT and GangofFive fan for as long as I can remember, but now I think I have the time and energy to engage in this wonderful little community. Very glad to see this fanbase still active despite the last movie being released almost six years ago now, so I’m happy to join the little space LBT fans call home.  :rainbowwave
