Land Before Time RPG / Sleep and Remember

"Look up at the sky. It's still blue, isn't it? The sun is still shining. There are still trees and rocks and other creatures. They haven't changed, have they?
"Bad times pass, like cloudy days. They seem like they'll never end, but they do. All it takes is a little patience and some hope."
He looked back at the young Iguanodon.
"I know how horrible losing your family can be, but they're never truly gone. Their spirits stay with us regardless of where we go and what we do, and we can always turn to them for help or comfort.
"And as for the Great Valley, if you like, I can lead you there myself."

The Sinensis sighed, and looked back at Reesk.
"I trust you can handle yourself while I'm gone, eh?"

As Strafe sat crying, a clawed hand held out a leaf to her.
"It's a good leaf," Sy said. "You wouldn't want it to go to waste."
When she refused, he shoved it in his mouth and swallowed it, before sitting next to her.
"I understand how you must feel. I lost my parents when I was very small, and not long after that by brother. It took a lot to keep me going, and I almost didn't make it. But you can't let it slow you down if you want to live a good life. Savvy?"

"Now, now, kind sir, no need to get testy," the Sinensis grumbled.
At that moment, a roar reached his ears. It was a roar he had heard many times before and every time it had filled him with dread.
"If you don't mind, sir," he said, grabbing the Raptor by the arm and pulling him, "I'd suggest we get to higher ground."
No sooner had he said that when the ground began to shake. He groaned.
"Why do they always happen at the same time?!"
A large chunk of the canyon wall fell next to them, creating a small shelter pointed away from the flood. Sy dragged Reesk into it.
"Bless Pellucidar for the Rainbowfaces. Their teachings help out a lot in tight spots."
At that moment the water rushed past, a small amount managing to spill in to their shelter. But within a few minutes, the earthquake had ended, and the last of the flood waters receded.

Sy peeked out. Everything seemed okay.
"All right, Mr. Reesk, you can come out."
He started up the canyon.
"Let's look for dead. And maybe some survivors."

~~~
They came upon the remains of Strafe's herd fairly quickly. The bodies exposed were scalded by steam, and vapor still rose from around them.
"Dig through the scree a bit(loose rock), Reesk. There should be something edible there."
It was then that the Sinensis came upon Strafe. Kneeling down beside her, he gave her a comforting smile.
"There, there, little one. What's wrong. What can old Eyesaur do to help?"
A large shape slid down a slope on the canyon in front of Reesk. Sy straightened, looking at the raptor with interest. There were several tooth marks on his side from the confrontation with the predator earlier, but otherwise he appeared in good health. He took a step toward Reesk.
"Hello. What might your name be?"
A large shape leaped in front of the charging sharptooth. It hissed and extended its frill. Lifting is head to the sky, the creature let out a terrifying scream.
Sy charged at the sharptooth, venom drooling from his mouth.
He spat at a rock nearby. It began dissolving when the venom made contact. Soon it was no more than a glob of sizzling liquid.
"I don't think sharpteeth will be a problem," Sy said, grinning, his own teeth glinting in the dying rays of the sun.
He quickly got up and left.
"Thanks, mate."
He glanced over at Snork's father.
"I've heard of him. Doesn't like other types of Dinosaurs, right? He should meet some Rainbowfaces, that'd teach him a thing or two. Or maybe I should introduce myself?"
Sy finally gave up, running disgustedly back in the direction he had come. He passed a Pachy on his way, and called to him.
"You'll find safety where you're going, friend. None of this horrid plain."
He ran on.
As Snork sat on the ground, there was a chuckle behind him.
"Heh, suddenly my life doesn't seem so bad."
Sy was lying on his stomach, chin resting on his forearms. A small rise with some bushes on it concealed him from the herd's view.
"You didn't happen to leave a couple of your dead at some point back there, did you? I could use something to eat."
A loud roar echoed down a valley not far away. It was accompanied by yelling and shouting.
"BACK! BACK, FOUL CREATURE!"
The yelling belonged to a barricade of Threehorns and Ankylosaurs. Their words were directed towards the creature that was trying to pass their barricade.
He was tall, a good ten feet. His scaly skin was a lush green color with alarming red spots going down his back. His skin was faded, however, by the dust that had collected on him while crossing the plain. His normally thin body looked even more emaciated due to the fact that he had not eaten anything in eight days. But perhaps his most noticeable feature was his right eye, or rather, the scarred, empty socket that used to be his right eye. His other dramatic feature was the large, tattered frill which he now used in an attempt to get past the barricade.
"I mean you no harm, friends!" he bellowed, trying to be heard over their yelling. "I simply wish to pass through!
"And maybe eat a few of your dead, as well," he muttered to himself.
Role Play Discussion / A few ideas
(Heh, both Grievouses are replying. Funny)
I think the first idea sounds quite good, but I would be open to all of these ideas.
I loved the "My dad looks like Tom Selleck" part, particularly since Tom Selleck did indeed provide the voice for the character mentioned.
Overall, I thought it was very good, and I may see it again.
It's one of the plots around here that I actually find promising. I think it would be a great RP, and perfect to use Sy in.
Ultrasauros? I never heard a dinosaur with "sauros" at the end of its name instead of "saurus".
Actually, there's another. "Saura." It's the female version of the word. There are only two dinosaurs with that name, Maiasaura and Liellenasaura. In theory, I would be able to name a theropod dinosaur "Tyrannosaura Rex," the Tyrant Lizard Queen.
"You're in the Great Valley, love."
The gravelly voice came from a dinosaur standing near her. Two crests jutted up from the top of his skull, and a frill draped neatly around his neck. He took a step toward her.
"What's your name, eh?"
(OOC: This is Sy I'm using.)
A voice crackled over a commlink.
"Lieutenant--CHHH--Squadron 4 has sustained severe casualities. We're--CHHH-- to check it out."
"Proceed, Green Leader," said a voice laced with a harsh accent. Its owner stared out of the eyeholes in his war mask.
Lieutenant Krakor stood at the bridge of one of the Republic Starships, surveying the battle occuring before him. He turned on the commlink again.
"Commander Rassen, do you read me, over?"
~~~

Name: Lieutenant Krakor

Age: 50

Species: Kaleesh (General Grievous' species)

Krakor was part of the Rebel Alliance before the fall of the Empire, and is now an officer in the New Republic. He is skilled at flying, and specializes in a special form of Kaleesh ground combat. His preferred weapon of choice: a Kaleesh scimitar that has a barbed hook at the end, that can be used to yank an opponent's weapon out of their hands, and it has many other uses. It is made from lightsaber resistant metal.
Though the Kaleesh are now almost extinct, Krakor still practices his species' customs, and he wears a Mumuu skull death mask everywhere he goes.
(General Grievous' face was a Mumuu skull war mask. Traditional war masks are painted with Karabbac blood.)
Here's an image of a traditional Kaleesh warlord.

Weapons:
Two hooked scimitars
pistol
5 sharp-edged boomerangs
1 throwing axe
blaster rifle(rarely used)
plasma detonator built into the hilt of both of his scimitars
communicator

Silver Screen / Eragon
« on: December 30, 2006, 12:43:17 AM »
Well, who here has seen the new movie Eragon? I just finished reading the second book roughly a week before I saw the movie, and I must say, I disliked it a great deal. It was far too different from the novel, and it really emphasized how derivative the story was. With the book you could acknowledge that and still greatly enjoy it, but the movie just made messed it up.
I was wondering how this happened, until I read this on Wikipedia:
Quote
The screenwriter is Peter Buchman, who is best known for his script for Jurassic Park III.
Now I get it!

Anyway, I'd like to hear your opinions about it. Any of you chaps seen it?
