LBT Fanart / All Grown Up?
« on: April 02, 2007, 09:01:28 AM »
Yep, and thanks! :) I adore all forms of animation, and I salute all the amazing artists who's talent still continues to amaze me. Everyone has a certain way of being creative, for example I could never get a grasp on CGI/3d art, but I myself lean more towards traditional and especially enjoy working with characters/expressions. Everyone's an artist in their own way, I think. :^.^:

That sounds like an interesting story idea! I'd sure love to read it, and I really enjoy any reference made to the gang's original journey and to Littlefoot's mother. If you get it done or have anything of it posted yet, I'd love to check it out (I know what you mean there though, I've found myself starting several projects and then just either not having the time or getting too caught up in other things to concentrate on it).

As for probably never getting to see the scenes not included in the original, at least we have fan fiction and fan art...in my personal experiance, sometimes fan stories/roleplays written by people like us are better than the sequels themselves. If one has a good hold and understanding on the story and the characters, imagination can be the best ticket into "seeing" things we may otherwise not get to.

That's really neat too about the scene with Spike, if I have that particular book then I've forgotten that part; I'm pretty sure the only illustrated LBT book I have a copy of for certain is "Friends in Need" (found it at a garage sale years ago, it's so fun (despite the odd looks you might get) to search for treasures from movies like LBT and TLK at thrift shops and yard sales  :lol )

Wow, that looks really great Novaflare!   I could never do a CGI model like that, I'm awful at computer artwork; the most I've done are the occasional mouse drawn pictures in paint (like my icon) or little pixel avatars for a game called Furcadia. The helment turned out amazing, I can't even start to imagine doing the work that went into it...and I think that's half the problem with people and animation anymore, if people only  knew just how much work goes into even the simpliest parts of animation, I think they'd give out a lot more awards to the hard working animators, voice actors, etc. ;)

Thanks Petrie, it's great to be here again, love this place. :)

Thanks everyone! Ah yes, Petrie was the hardest for me oddly enough...add together the two facts that I rarely draw this style and I'm terrible at drawing anything with a beak, and I think that answers why.  :lol  I did use colored pencils on this, yes...crayola actually. ;)

Thank you for the tip, novaflare...I actually did that with my little wolf icon there, which was mouse drawn in MS paint, but the majority of my artwork is hand drawn. I just have more fun using pencils and pens than I do the mouse, plus my hand drawn stuff usually turns out a lot nicer too. I only have MS paint and gimp to work with, and a very sticky mouse...so drawing things with pencils is easier for me too.

And thanks, Highsoar

Right now I'm working at making adult Cera look decent...I'm happy with little Cera though, she's in one of her "sticking nose up, tongue out, storming off" poses"   I'll see if I can't get those three done within the next few days here. ;)

Thank you all again for the comments and suggestions :)

Yeah, I actually like Little Caesars pizza more, Petrie  :lol

I guess there's no chance of these alternitive scenes showing up on a dvd version sometime in the future? I'd worry they couldn't capture the same look and feel of the original, honestly...but it would really be cool to revisit it and get a glimpse of unseen or cut sections of the story. ;)

I'm not sure why, I love the idea of characters revisiting memorable places that they came across in original films...in the case of LBT, I think the tunnel Littlefoot and the others first entered the Great Valley through is one of those places...or how about along one of their trips into the "mysterious beyond" happening across the rock that looks like a long neck, or that place where they found some green leaves...or the pool where they finally won against Sharptooth...I wonder Chomper's reaction to that.

It may be a little strange, but I think that kind of thing is cool. Of course, only people who pay really close attention to the original movie might notice.

On the note of cut scenes, I for one would love to see these "scary Sharptooth" moments that weren't allowed into the movie...but I will admit that Sharptooth scared me a lot as a child though.

I agree with you there too, so many people don't even understand just how much work goes into an animated movie...even a ten minute animated cartoon is a load of work. It takes a combination of art and story to make a really great film. LBT, Balto, TLK...all these movies had those two things going for them: gorgeous animation and wonderful stories, emotion and feeling...a good story makes you feel for the characters, it makes you laugh, cry, etc. All of those movies did that for me.

It seems that now a days it's harder and harder to find a good animated movie with both the art and the story that'll touch people in that way. The majority of animated films coming out recently have all shared something in common: comedy. about animals. CGI. Personally, I like traditional animation much more...there's just something about it that CGI can't get right in my eyes, but I like it too...and it's honestly not the type of animation, but like I said, it takes a good storyline too.

Is it just me or are a lot of the animated movies today lacking the emotion of those I grew up with? It's been a long time since a movie gave me the same chills and emotions as the classics I saw as a kid. It's certainly not because I'm an adult, since I still get the same feelings from those classics, and the occasional gem that finds it's way into the theatres. I thought Brother bear was pretty good. ;) I would LOVE to see more trandtional animated movies with the same charm and emotion as our classics return to the movie theatres.  :)

Heh that's a cool desktop! You're right, the expressions are pretty similar! :lol From the little I've seen of the tv series, I remember an ep (where Ali returns to the great valley), and they sing a new version of "friends for dinner" (pretend)...well, I'm not certain, but I think one of them sings the "liver of duck" line and Chomper goes "I wonder if that tastes good," followed with a 'YUCK!" from everyone else...maybe that's what he's thinking there. Poor Ducky...hrm...naaaw, just joking, I don't think he'd do that.  :p

That is an interesting thought...no idea why they changed it either, although what Malte279 said makes the most sense to me. I have "Friends in Need" myself...somewhere in my room. (it's hard to find anything in there  )

Hey, my copy is the exact same way! That pizza hut commercial...we're gonna party, party right now. Hah! Childhood memories from that, I'll always keep my original vhs. :lol

I'm also not sure how many other versions they came out with, though.

The majority of my friends are also huge fans of animation, thankfully...however, most of them generally like anime over such classices as LBT, Balto, TLK, etc (all movies I adore. TLK = The Lion King, for those who might not know ;)). I think I'm sometimes thought of as weird for enjoying cartoon animal movies more than drooling over "cute anime guys" (never saw the huge thing with that.)

For the most part, my friends respect me for what I enjoy, although I can't really chatter to them about some of my obsessions. Another note is that most of my friends are online, and the one who's close enough to me in person just really isn't interested in the same kind of animation (again, anime fan), although she too respects my interests...it's just that we usually wind up talking about her obsessions a lot more than mine.  <_<

Sometimes that's all you can really get...although I have felt the odd person out a few times when everyone chatters about anime guys and no one has enough liking for the american animation or animal movies to talk about those. as strange as it is, I think a good majority of people view japanese animation as more mature than american animation. I like anime too, don't get me wrong...but there's not too many animes that center around the types of characters I like the most: animals. (and another note, I disagree with that 'american animation is for kids only' viewpoint. :mad )

Not sure what else to say here, but it's lovely to have a place like this to talk, eh?

Hey guys! Some of you may remember me, others may not...I used to come here a couple years ago, but things got pretty crazy and I've had a really hard time keeping up with too many of my online communities for the past year or so. My dog/best friend that I've had since I was five and one of our cats came to rainbow bridge in october, both of them almost 17 years of age, and generally I've just had a rough time.  Strange as it might sound, it was a quote from LBT that gave me a little comfort, and I actually used it in a drawing of my dog and cat: Some things you see with your eyes...others, you see with your heart.  :^.^:

Anyways, I won't go on about depressing things, the reason I'm here is to re-introduce myself (I've loved LBT since I was a toddler, quite literally. It was the second movie I ever saw, and the first I saw with my mother. Mother present...very important!  :lol ) I'm not so much a fan of the sequels and the tv series as I am the original classic, however I do adore Chomper.

Hah, where are my manners?  -_- My name is Autumn, better known as Akiko or Eggy to my friends. I'm a 22 year old tomboy animation and animal lover.  :wow

Recently I found myself watching the tv series, and despite the songs (no offense, I can just never get used to the songs/characters breaking into songs like that...although I'll admit some of them are cute, although clearly pointed towards younger children.  :)) I've found myself returning to my obsession again. My obsessions come and go so much, always spinning in circles...nonetheless, there are certain movies that I always love...sometimes I just get more obsessive than others.

So, I've started a little fan art project...I've seen a few people draw some of the characters as adults, but have yet to find a picture that includes all of them. I have three fully colored and completed so far: Ducky, Petrie and Chomper. Littlefoot, Cera and Spike are already half inked, and depending on how much drawing time I get within the next week, I should have them completed soon too. Having trouble fitting all of adult Littlefoot on the page though!

Here's the first part:

http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs15/f/2007/089...akikoookami.jpg

Chomper's expression was fun...almost makes me ponder if they're all still possible friends at this point in their lives. "I'm nice, really..." sorta' thing. I am not used to drawing dinosaurs, let alone in this style...I mostly draw canines and felines, so dinosaurs certainly was a something different, and quite a nice little challenge for me. I like little Petrie more, adult Petrie turned out a little weird.   As for Ducky, I attempted to keep her looking like Ducky while having the more adult frame like her mother.

Ah, one more thing...I know Chomper's suppose to be a purple or blue type color, but I actually mixed three colors to get him how he looks now: purple, blue and grey...I like a more realistic coloring, especially as they grow...and Chomper looks neat in a sort've indigo grey, ya think?  :lol Anyways, I apologize for the novel...I'll have Littlefoot, Cera and Spike up soon. It's great to be here again, I had a lot of fun here before...love to say hello again and meet new faces.
