Was released as a public beta two days ago, and some people have tried out this browser.  Its pretty simplistic, and is fast.  Can't stand the bookmarks (couldn't import from html or txt file) and there's some wording in the user agreement which just creepy.

Nice attempt, maybe it'll add some chrome and be a worthy contender then. :p

Apparently google changed the user agreement, so I'm not so concerned as much with it now.

Works fine on these boards.

Google is a worthy contender in today's market. It's stock has had a 20% jump in the past year. Their stock before that jump was around $400-something dollars. It raised their stock value tremendously. I mean, a 20% jump in today's market is amazing, no matter how the stock is.

I think I'll stick with firefox for now, though having another choice of browser isn't bad.  There are bound to be some folks who will prefer it.

Uninstalled this yesterday.  I can't figure out why, but my computer processes are continually running (11% of the cpu when I'm dong nothing with the computer).  Take off google chrome, cpu load goes back to 1% when doing nothing.  I don't know what it installs but it takes over computer resources.  its a beta, so there's probably some bug somewhere.

LBTlover's post from a duplicate topic I've removed:

Has anyone here tried Chrome, google's new web browser? It's still in the beta stage, but I'm impressed with its overall performance and dependability. I haven't had even one browser crash with either windows xp or windows vista. This is very good for a browser that's still in beta stage. I suggest everyone download it. Google is a HUGE organization. This will soon be the worlds best browser. It's almost there now. Instead of explaining everything to you in this thread, why not download it yourself? It's a very small download and takes up less than 10mb of space on your hard drive. There's no reason not to try it. It starts a million times faster than either Firefox, IE, or Opera and is pretty stable. You may download it by clicking the link below:

There is one problem with the software I've noticed. On newer laptops that have the scroll on the mouse pad, it won't scroll up. I'm sure they'll have it fixed in no time though.

EDIT: Oh yeah and I'm typing this in the google chrome browser.

Sounds like they released the beta when they should have worked on getting out all the bugs and finishing it, similar to what Microsoft does and some other companies do also.

Well, I'm testing this out myself and this is outstanding.  Heck, moving my bookmarks from Firefox was a big plus in itself.  I've tested it with all of my favorite sites and it works wonderfully.

I knew Google would make a web browser someday.  Took them long enough though.

And wow, even this message that I'm typing to you all is going out beautifully.  However, I need to keep testing. ;)

EDIT: Oh man, just tested it out at several sites that usually take a while to get into and I can't believe the speed of this thing.  It's almost instant at those places.  How in the world did they do that?

Well, that does it.  It's official.  Google Chrome (Beta) = #1 Web Browser.

No arguing. :D

Google Chrome has difficulty with flash applications at the moment.  Don't try to go to google maps or any place else that has flash (this includes my website).  It only works probably 90% of the time.  When it doesn't, it spikes your CPU to insane levels.  Remember though that this is a BETA people!  It's pretty darned good for a beta program.  Just download it, install it, and agree to let google collect usage reports.  The more people do this, the faster this can become the best browser on the planet.

Uh, noooooo.  Your computer doesn't need to be calling home every ten minutes.  Like I said, they need to fix that darn resource bug before I'll give it another chance, since it kept my fans running at higher speeds all the time.

I will say one thing I did like the most--no electrical interference when playing music.  Things with fancy graphics will cause a lot of problems in Firefox with my audio.  Its hardly there in Opera and I didn't get a single bit of interference with Chrome. :)

I'm not sure if I want to try the Google Chrome browser. I'm content with Opera and Firefox (on my computer).

Google chrome is really awesome.  It still has a lot of bugs, but I'm typing this in it right now.  I'm allowing google to collect research reports because it's in beta and I want to help them get some things fixed.

Petrie, you don't have to let the browser phone home.  It's only if you WANT it to.  In fact, that feature is turned off by default.  I have it enabled to help improve the browser and I think everyone with a decent computer should as well.

I heard about it. But in the news they said one should better wait for the original version of Google Chrome. Because the beta version could have too many mistakes and there would be much space for hackers and viruses. So, I like my firefox and better wait for the original version.

There will never be an original version if people don't install and use the beta. <_< As for hackers, that's just BS.  A new system is more hacker resistant than an old one so it's more secure than any other browsers at the moment.  The only thing it's got now is a few bugs, which are minor inconveniences most of the time and probably won't bother the average computer user most of the time.

I wouldn't use a beta for SSL pages like banks or online shopping.  Places like this, I didn't mind using Chrome to see how it would turn out.  It looked like it does using Opera.

As of now, I use Firefox. I used to use Safari, but something went wrong and it freezes my computer too often. I have yet to see a version of Google Chrome for Mac OS X, but when it does, I'll try it out and see how it is. Although, I have to say this about Google Chrome. It has a cool icon.

That's what I hate about macs.  You can never get the newest and best programs because they're almost always made for the PC first unless it was officially made by the apple company.  I love the mac os, but the machines are waaaaaaaaay too expensive.  Now that PCs and Macs share the same processor type, it's easy to install mac os 10.5 on a PC either through an emulator or a dual boot.  I dual boot mac os 10.5 on my school laptop so I can run the video editing programs that can only be run on a mac (there's only one that won't run on a PC out of all the ones I use in my class).  I just wish mac would release their OS's for PCs as well.  I'm really getting sick of windows and linux just isn't a viable alternative.  I'm NOT paying $2,700 for a mac when I can pay $800 and get a PC with the same specs. -_-

I guess apple thinks they have a good reason to charge so much for their Macs.  I've never understood it myself.

Apple wants everyone to pay $2,700 for a $800 computer.  That's what they want.  They don't make money off the software, they make the money off the computers.  That's why there's no "product activation" s*** with macs.  They honestly don't give a crap if people pirate their OS's.
