It looks like Jurassic Park fans' wishes for an Operation Genesis game for Jurassic World have been answered! Jurassic World Evolution was announced about a week ago for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Here is the trailer. I am very excited about this game! I can't wait to see how it plays, what features are being put in, and see the graphics. How do you other JP fans feel?
I couldn't find a starday thread for you though you have been here a little over two years. So here it is! Happy birthday! I know it's kind of late, but I do hope today was good. Edit: I just realized I got your username wrong.
Dog Food Advisor Has anybody else heard of this website? They go into great detail about the ingredients in dry, wet, and raw dog foods and rate them on a five star rating system based on the ingredients. They also have a section for food recalls and you can sign up to get recall alerts. It's great, especially if your dog has a food allergy or sensitivity, to know what's in your dog food. It disgusts me to have learned that Del Monte foods (Kibbles N Bits and Meow Mix are well-known pet foods from them) spray their food with animal by-products.
There is a variant of this game around here, the "Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral" variant, but this one encompasses any subject you want. Surely we all know how to play this game. If not, well it's simple. One person, the "answerer" chooses a subject (object) but does not reveal it. The others, "questioners", ask simple "Yes" or "No" questions e.g. "Is it heavier than a book?" If a "questioner" guesses the subject before 20 questions are asked, they are the new "answerer". If 20 questions are asked without a correct guess, the "answerer" goes for another round. Rules: 1. An "answerer" must not lie. 2. "Yes" or "No" questions only. 3. Wait for the "answerer" to answer your question before asking a new one. Edit: 4. If multiple questions have been answered, the answerer must specify which questioner is being answered. Who wants to start?
I can't believe I am just now learning about this. Apparently, the trailer debuted at the VGA 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zZiu1nQR5o There it is. The trailer states that this was captured from a PS3 system (maybe) and it looks really nice. It's basically a post-apocalyptic game with two titular characters, Ellie (14 year old girl) and Joel ("a ruthless survivor"). It is not a zombie game, but a "love story about a father-daughter-like relationship." The "zombie" part of the game are fungus infected humans. I find this a bit more realistic than a virus as there is a fungus that takes over the brain of ants to get the ant at a specific location before killing the ant. The part about the fungus taking over the brain of the ant is the basis for the game. The trailer had me a little on edge when they were in the bathroom, door open, and the fungus zombies were just outside the door. It looks very promising, but, then again, so did a lot of other games. But, then again, Naughty Dog has a very good track record. If the gameplay isn't good, the storyline should be. Naughty Dog definitely knows how to tell a good story in a great way. We'll have to wait and see. Edit: Here is a Wikipedia article on the ant fungus; for those who are interested.
So, in an interview, Jeffrey Katzenberg says that Dreamworks has plans to make 4 more sequels for the Kung Fu Panda franchise. After the second movie, I have to say I'm a little concerned about the plot for further sequels. I have been reading a lot of comments from people saying they want Po to find his parents and honestly I say that is a bad idea. I think they should leave it as it is and continue with a separate storyline. I don't think the ending to KFP2 was open enough to lead to a continuation. When I saw that Po's dad was still alive, the first thought in my head was "I hope the 3rd movie doesn't have Po finding him." I feel that this would invalidate everything he went through in KFP2. To have Po find his father would be a spit in the face to the whole movie. If Dreamworks does decide to go down this road and fulfill the want of their movie's fans, I will not watch the remaining 3 sequels. What do you think about the future of the KFP franchise?
We all have embarrassing blunders. This is just a topic to share said blunders, whether they happened today, yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, etc. I had one today. I put my dog's bowl on the stairs today and forgot it was there. When I stepped out onto the stairs later, I stepped on the bowl and slid down the stairs. No one saw but I still felt embarrassed.
So, I was running my DVD of The Land Before Time and my HD to compare and I noticed a difference in both versions. Below are 2 screenshots of the place where I noticed this. DVD:
(resized)HD:
I think it's pretty obvious what I saw. As you can see, the DVD version has the sides of the shot reduced, while the top and bottom are increased. The HD version is the exact opposite. There's more on the sides and less on the top and bottom. After noticing this, I went and watched the VHS I recently bought (1994 copy) and found that version is missing more on the sides than the DVD. I don't have my camera to take a screenshot because my sister took it, but the part on the sides where you can see sharptooth's crazy look in both the DVD and HD versions can't be seen in my VHS copy.
So I was messing around with VLC media player and while watching "The Land Before Time", I changed the aspect ratio to 2.39:1 and I was surprised at how much I liked the change. Here are a few screenshots with their 4:3 counterparts. The quality here isn't as good as what I was seeing when I was watching it scaled and in fullscreen. Also note that I reduced the image size of the widescreen shots because for some reason they were larger in comparison to the fullscreen shots.
Oh the terrible quality of this shot. But I like the effect of it being widescreen, which I will explain after a few more shots.
So after playing this game all day yesterday, I wrote a fine review over on Amazon and will post it here.
[Review start](in purple, for Spyro ) When I first saw a screenshot of this game, I absolutely despised it due to our beloved Spyro getting a major change in character design that looks like a mix between some sort of insect and a dragon, and due to the fact that Spyro is not the main character anymore. Being a true Spyro fan, however, I took the risk and bought the starter pack. After playing for an hour, my view of the game changed (almost) completely. I still find Spyro's character design to be horrendous, but I found the gameplay was not bad and the storyline good. One thing I found annoying is the absence of a jump. I don't get why they don't have a jump button for the PC/console versions. Besides the missing jump button, I was okay with the controls. Gameplay wise, you have two basic attacks: primary and secondary. As you play throughout the game, you can upgrade these attacks. Also, you eat to recover your health. Interesting. The graphics are good, childish in nature, but this game was made for children. Going through the first level, defeating bad guys was fun. And I like Spyro's charge in this game. And there is co-op. Just put another character on the portal and tada! The second character just pops up in the game! All without interrupting it! You can play co-op or head to head where you fight each other. I like the idea that these little action figures can store data that is amassed in the game. You can hook it up to another PC/console and the data is still there, saved in the little Spyro. Not only that, but you can take your action figure and place it on another Portal of Power that is hooked up to a different console and still play it there! And if you switch characters, it doesn't interrupt the game either. You just switch characters in-game! This idea was incredibly ingenious. I was thinking about just passing up on this game, and I'm glad I didn't. After so many games that could only be described as boring (in my OPINION), this is a fun game. The musical score sort of reminds me of the original Spyro trilogy soundtracks. Although, one thing I must state: certain places can not be accessed without a certain Skylander. This means you will need to buy at least 5 other characters, 1 for each elemental class you don't have. I would say buy the 3 Character Pack 3, Stealth Elf, and Sonic Boom. That will give you all 8 elements. That comes to about an extra $39.97. It's a lot to pay for a game, I know. If you're going to buy this game for Christmas, make sure you save enough to buy these extras, or if you don't feel like wasting your money, just go buy a different game. I had money saved, so I was fortunate enough. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are too closed minded to try something new or people who are low on funds, but for those with the extra money and the open mind to try something new, I highly recommend. [Review end] I was really shocked with this game. Even though the developers screwed with the series, they did it in a fun way. I realize that there is nothing about the plot up there. Well, basically you are saving the Skylands from Kaos. You are the Portal Master and must, using the Skylanders, defeat Kaos.
As my last post of the day, I am posting here. Mainly due the inactivity here in the Land Before Time sections of the forum and partly because I am in a Land Before Time mood. I am going to go through the sequels and find ALL of the musical scores from The Land Before Time Original Movie Soundtrack in the sequels. I have been wanting to do this since I first joined and since I got all the movies (except the 13th). This is just a starter post. I will post my 2nd movie findings tomorrow or the next day. I'll be doing more than one viewing to be certain I get every last piece down. But for now, I have to sign off.
