The Fridge / Countdown to 20 Years Online
« on: December 08, 2022, 06:44:04 PM »
It might crawl across the finish line, but it would be a magical moment if the Gang of Five forum can make it online for 20 years.   I started this back when I was 18 and putting websites and stuff online.  Life has changed for me since then and I'm doing other things, but I still remember this place!

Today is December 8, 2022.  The official GOF founding date is October 12, 2003.

308 days to go after today!!  :petrieooohh

I know its been months, not sure if this will ping you or not, but I do recall you from back in the day as Cyberlizard!  Good to have a fellow furry back.  Hit me up to chat sometime (I'm on telegram mostly @twodogsandamarten).

The Fridge / Re: Furry community, fandom
« on: January 16, 2022, 05:57:40 PM »
I have found few topics in the midnight Archive, I am reviving it, but I did not find the right category there, so i am putting it here.

What do you think about Furry Community? Are you a fan, or do you have anything to say about it?

Personally, I always found that interesting, and anthropomorphic characters in general are my most favorite characters, and recently started to look at furaffinity, even though I did not register, but I will probably later do it in near future. I found there many interesting pictures about anthropomorphic characters from movies, games, etc. that I had not found elsewhere much. I have never talked about the fandom personally offline, if I remember.

I am also looking forward to near future, where will be some good VR game with anthropomorphic characters with very advanced possibilities in many things, that are now still too complicated.

Take it from a longtime furry, the fandom certainly has its ups and downs and drama.  Depends on how deep you want to dig into it.  I didn't have any suits/characters for years (wasn't a priority and had other things to pay off).  Now I have 3 (soon to be 4) suits and characters.  It is really fun to get around and make people smile.

Games - I think there's one out there, but I don't recall its name.  A lot of furs are on VRchat.  I go on every now and then.  My username is M.B. Mutt

Also, a lot of furries are on telegram for chatting, that's usually where you'll find me.  I probably won't see replies here for a while, but you can always message me there.

The Fridge / Re: Your Avatar
« on: December 31, 2021, 09:21:25 AM »
Ever since I joined here, my pic has been this same thumbnail from one of my fanart pieces. I keep meaning to change it, but I'm undecided as to what I should change it to. Guess I've gotten too used to looking at it. :p
Be like me and never change it  :bestsharptooth

I've had my avatar for the whole 14 years I've been with the GoF (apart from 1 or 2 April Fools' Days). It honestly was chosen because I was searching for an avatar to use and found this picture to be funny...that's it   :PLoofah

Furry Land Before Time!!  :lol  You've always had the fursuits of Littlefoot and Sera...never changed it.  I'm not even sure you could find that picture anymore.

Mine is Petrie from the last film I think.  I just screenshot it and its been my pic ever since.  I've done others with Petrie in various poses.  I might change it since I retired and I'm no longer the "leader" of the forum.

Wow, thats a great-looking fire and tree Petrie!

Hope everyone's having a Merry Christmas!

That was my parents house.  I don't have enough room in my own house to have a big tree and stuff, and I wanted good Christmas pics with my suits, so I went over there.  My mom took all the pictures.

I’m surprised this thread is still pinned and still getting replies. XP

We’re only two years away from 20 years, so this thread will hit the archives.  I do promise to post for 20 years if it makes it there. I’m not totally gone, just doing other things now.

Did I seriously only discover this video just now? :P
And since the GOF Discord Group Chat (specifically Nick22) provided the idea, I’ll also assume a lot of people saw the vid way back in July.

Eh, I think it’s weird that nobody shared the vid on the forum. Unless I’m wrong and someone could prove otherwise.

I do admit that I was cringing throughout the entire vid, but it’s still very informative and I learned a few things about the site that I haven’t know of before.

But anyways...enjoy! :)

That video is a good simplification of everything that happened up to 2019.  Sorry you found it cringey (must be the fursuit) but I can't please everyone, nor do I try to!

Just reading these all again makes me smile.  :)petrie

We'll get to 20 years--pretty sure of it!  Good people are in place to make certain it happens!  Be sure to invite me to the party!  A couple of us will be closing in on 40 years of life by then!  :wow

My post will be pretty short, but I know my interest in LBT had been waning for a while and it certainly pretty much disappeared save for the amazing qualities of the first film.  So in the 2010s, I can't say LBT had any real impact on me as I was working full time, trying to keep my head in the game, and exploring other things more deeply than I had previously (namely the furry fandom, which I had been quasi in since 2003).  The original LBT will always have a spot in my heart.  :)petrie

That site has roots all the way back to 2004 (because it was mine, and I eventually gave all the stuff, code to Austin).  At least its not stuck in 2004.  :yum

No real thoughts on the subject, no. My interest in and knowledge of music is... limited, so I feel like I wouldn't be the right person to make any comment on that :P

Eh...I don't think I have any knowledge on the intricacies of music, but you can notice things that bother or appeal to you just by listening attentively to the song, multiple times maybe, and compare it to different versions of it to get the gist of it. Many variables can affect your overall experience on what you listen to, such as quality, vocals, instruments, pacing, tone, and whatnot. And depending on how those elements are executed, it could lead to a wonderful, unsatisfactory, or disasterous outcome.

So, when I listened to Tim's composition, it was very underwhelming by itself, and especially when I compare it to the instrumental I've been listening to for awhile. So yeah, I have already expressed the reasons why I felt that way in my initial post, so no need to repeat it here. Once again, I'm no expert on music and everything I've said here is my opinion. This conversation turned out to be longer than I previously thought, hehe. :)

Edit: I did another listen of the song, turns out it's not underwhelming, but a bit of the opposite problem actually. Like I said already with the instruments, too much going on at once. But despite that, I actually really liked it. I now felt the emotion that was seemingly lacking the first time around. Hmm. So yeah, probably because I didn't listen to it at a high enough volume. Now I could hear everything much more clearly. But everything else I said still stands, and it's still not my cup of tea.

And yep, the old adage is true that the more you listen to something, the more you grow to like it.

Can't say I agree, given I had no trouble listening to this, or mixing my own recording of the song.  I think Tim did fine, given he had to do it by ear to get it right.  I get not everyone will agree but its totally usable for what we're doing here as a community.  :yes

I finally got around to start recording...but apparently I have no idea what I'm supposed to be singing at what point - I can't seem to match the lyrics to the instrumental :lol

Because it's all accompaniment I get that it's hard to line up.  My first run was off.  I had to listen to the original song to get an idea for the song again, and I was able to do it the second time.

« on: July 14, 2019, 08:11:46 AM »
The last time someone said something in this thread was 6 years ago!!!  In that time, while we have had ultra 4K monitors come along, many members use their mobile devices and tablets to browse.  A huge signature is still very distracting.  Please keep your signatures small or you will still get emails from admins despite the advance in technology.  :exactly

Just FYI I keep signatures setting to “off” in my profile so I never see them, because I don’t always use a big screen and I don’t want to be scrolling endlessly past signatures on an ipad. ^^
