Title: Tickles!

Who all besides me loves Tickles, the mouse from the 4th movie with "tickley fuzzies"?  :)   :smile

Yo welcome to GOF dude!  Why not make a topic introducing yourself in the welcome section?

Anyways, about Tickles.  He's a cute little mouse thing.  It's odd that such a small creature has awareness like Littlefoot and co.  Then again, there was a talking crab in the TV series.

I would love to have a cute mouse like that.  I used to, but I don't think I'll ever own a hamster again since they only live a few years.  BTW if the gang ever meets Tickles again that would be a good indication of how much time is passing between the sequels.  If they meet him in LBT 14 and he isn't dead yet, it's only been a few years since LBT 4. :p

I love Tickles.  He's a cute lil' dude, and quickly becomes devoted to his non-mammal friends :yes.

I found tickles adorable.

Tickles is indeed a fun (not to mention cute) guest character. I really liked the idea of the gang making friends with a mammal. (It's a nice change from the usual role of Mesozoic mammals as either egg thieves or theropod fodder.) I thought the filmmakers could have done a lot more with Tickles, though; apart from helping the gang find Cera, and later saving Petrie from Ichy and Dil, he seemed to have a rather negligible role in the movie. :( (That was the impression I got, anyway.)
Another thing I wanted to mention about Tickles; has anyone else noticed that, for his size, he appears to possess the relative physical strength of the original Sharptooth? He is seen to be capable of lifting and dragging the tail of a Deinosuchus with little apparent effort, despite being light enough to be lifted into the air by a butterfly. Why isn't this little guy ever cited as having supernatural abilities? :p

Whilst Tickles is an adorable secondary character, to be honest he didn't really make a deep impression on me compared to the other secondary characters of the movies series (for example Chomper or Ali).  Yet, Tickles did help find Cera and play other roles in thwarting Ichy and Dil, yet he was just there as a character fill in and because of that is why there isn't a lasting impression.

Perhaps he's one of the mice who had steroids experimented on 'em in "The Secret of NIMH" :p.  How else can it be explained?

Maybe he came from the same planet or place as certain large sharpteeth as the one in the first movie.

Actually, tiny animals having this amount of strength and lightness was a normal cliche for cartoons up until the start of the 21st century.  Fine examples of others that did this are Tom & Jerry cartoons, Looney Tunes, MGM Cartoons, and Tiny Toons were the last ones to keep it alive up until the 21st century hit.

After that, it just died.  No explanation whatsoever.  Where'd it go?

So considering LBT 4 came out in 1995, it was one of the last to do this sort of thing while it was still alive.

So it was a normal cliche for cartoons and as kids, we weren't surprised at the time.

Now, for a rather short review, I'll just say that Tickles might end up stealing the #10 slot on my favorite LBT Characters list. (Sorry, Petrie, but that grammar problem is killing you.)

He has done everyone a favor in the movie my respect goes to him for that.  If it wasn't for him to show the way around it could have be worse.

I never liked Tickles much, still don't too much, but hell, I'd take him any day over Dinah and Dana (vomit)

I immediately took a liking towards Tickles in his first appearance of LBT 4. It was sad seeing him so scared of the Gang of Five initially, and I wanted to reach out and tell him that everything is okay (Impossible to do obviously :P). Ducky did the deed for me luckily, and what ensued was one of the most adorable scenes I've seen in LBT. So yeah, the gang has made their first mammalian friend, and he's quite intelligent and brave from what I've seen. Like others have said already, he helped find Cera and also save Petrie from Ichy by literally moving Dil's tail towards Ichy's mouth. You can imagine that I was pretty disappointed to see Tickles leave so soon, but then again I knew it was inevitable. He was only meant as a Secondary Character after all. I can only hope he makes another appearance in a future movie, even if it's just a cameo. I just want to know if our little furry friend is alright, that's all. :)

I find your lack of love for Dinah and Dana disturbing. JK :D

I frankly do not recollect Tickles save for one scene. My focus is always on Ali and the Gang. I will have to rewatch LBT IV to give a opinion on Tickles.

Tickles is one of those characters that failed to make any impact whatsoever on me when I watched LBT as a kid. I think it basically boiled down to "he's not a dinosaur, so therefore I don't care." Harsh, but true! :p Nowadays, though, I'd say he's cute, though I still tend to forget about him when I'm thinking about LBT's one-off characters.

That was my mentality as well. The series was basically all about dinosaurs, so if something wasn't a dinosaur, why bother paying attention? From the start, Tickles to me didn't make a very good first impression. I don't know whether I would pay more attention to his character if I happened to rewatch the film or would my opinion stay the same. Guess there's only one way to find out and that is to actually watch the darn movie in the near future. :lol

Phew, it's not just me. :SmugSpike In fact, I think LBT IV overall never thrilled me much because it had so many of those non-dinosaurs in it--Ichy, Dil, Tickles. I couldn't stand those small mammals from the TV series, either--I got into LBT for the dinosaurs, not some random mammals!! :rolleyes

Yeah, that trio of mammals was not my cup of tea either. They had a whole variety of dinosaurs to choose from, yet they pull a stunt like that? Come on. :rolleyes

I know...why not some small dinosaurs or something, instead? :rolleyes And the crabs, while maybe not as annoying to me as the mammals, were similar offenders as far as I'm concerned.

Interestingly, the crabs were more into my liking because it felt like they served a real purpose, whereas the mammals were used poorly. But I still would take any dinosaur over the two any day. :lol

I am not alone then. I can barely remember him except for a scene when I think Spike licks him. I too was preoccupied with the dinosaurs. :)

Is it wrong for me to be okay with the non-dinosaur characters of TLBT? I liked Tickles despite him being there just to be cute. XD Will say why I think the Ichy and Dile duo are interesting... I don't see them as much as a threat as a Sharptooth. If Ichy was working with Sharpteeth, it be pretty horrifying as hiding would be much more difficult. Also my favorite mammals of the franchise? The ones that thought Spike is some kind of deity in the TV show. XD

@Anagnos Good point. At least the crabs contributed to a story, and considering that the story revolved around them basically being vermin, it would've been impossible to tell that particular story with any type of dinosaurs in their place.

@Gentle Sharptooth Heh, I don't even remember when Spike licks him. :p I just remember then scene when Ducky names him Tickles, plus another scene where he makes Ichy bite Dil's tail.

Worry not, there is no rule that says you aren't allowed to like non-dinosaurs. :OhYou I'm not even saying I ever disliked Tickles, I just barely took note of him... :lol Anyway, I think I recall him being in there for more than just being cute. Didn't he help the Gang find their way through the Land of Mists? (Correct me if I'm wrong, that particular LBT movie isn't one of the ones I've watched more recently.)

I will admit that the three underground mammals are among my very least favorite characters in LBT. The stupid thing, though, is that I don't even have a real reason why. :p I just never cared for them or the episode in general. (Actually...heh, I did have one reason, now that I mention it, it was just quite a silly reason. But I'll get into that when @Gentle Sharptooth and I start reviewing the TV series.)
